Bad iPod Video..

Well first sorry for my english but I'm from Mexico.
OK I used to own a 30GB iPod Photo.. It was almost perfect except for the non video support. Ok so I decided to buy a 60Gb black iPod with Video. First of all it has a lot of very very small dead pixels on screen... I own a griffin earthumps that sound grate with iPod photo but for my surprise the iPod with Video sound incredibly bad vs the iPod Photo.. I think that the last firmware fix this or maybe I'm just crazy...
Ok so tell me where the **** I can see my videos that I had under TV Programs on iTunes on the iPod... In the Videos Menu on the iPod I see only Videoclips, and Movies... Nothing about TV.. The only I can do to see them is to open the Recently Added playlist or check them as Movies under iTunes...
And what about that nice bar with movement like the iPod Photo or Nano.. Like in Mac OSX.. The iPod with Video just shows a blue static bar.. No backgraund color in movement like other iPods...
And finally why the **** when I turn off the iPod if I touch the click wheel it sound like the iPod is still on..
Oh and I forgot why do Apple didn't put an option like the other iPods to enable or disable that click noise from earphones.. I like that the iPod sound with the clicks but not on the earphones!!!
And well I think now really finally.. The crashes... My iPod Photo never crashed... New one sometimes only freeze.. others crashed... I think that with the newest firmwares it crashes less but freezes and lags as always...
I'm too disappointed with my ultimate generation iPod...
It's just mine or all other iPod with Video suffer the same???
If not, can I send it to Apple to get a fixed one???
The problem is that I buyed the iPod on USA in Miami, but now I'm on Mexico..
Pleaseee answer me someone!!!

Wow, it really sounds like you need to send it back to Apple for a replacement! I don't experience ANY of the problems you have!
If it's still under warranty, I would definately get it replaced, just for the dead pixels (and if Apple won't ship to mexico, buddy up with a friend in the US. Have apple ship it to them, and have that person ship it to you - A trick I learned because many companies don't like to ship to Alaska).
As to not seeing your TV programs, make sure your settings are right in iTunes - Videos has its own tab in preferences.
I'm not sure what's up with the pod acting like it's still on when it's off.... again, I'd get it replaced.
My bar movement is just the same on my video as on my nano and my photo.
I DO have the option to change the click sound, again, just like on my Nano and my Photo.... in the settings.
I've NEVER had my Video freeze up on me (knock on wood), and I HAVE had my Nano freeze up on me...
Don't lose faith - get it replaced.

  • Dead Ipod Video- Bad battery?

Hi - helping a friend with his 30Gb Ipod Video (5g).
It doesn't do ANYTHING. No power, doesn't respond when I hook it up to my mac, and the mac won't mount it. No noises, no lights, no HD activity. Tried resetting it, opened it up and made sure all the connections are good, looks fine. Tried two different cables on 2 different Macs.
IF this thing has a completely dead/malfunctioning battery, would it behave this way? Wouldn't it run on power from the USB? I don't want to have him order a battery if thats not the issue.
    Thanks for any opinions.

You may STILL need to reset it.
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.
See this thread as an example of what I mean by needing to try it many times...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5065208
Also try it while plugged into a USB port so there is power for the iPod, preferably after it has been plugged in for a good 15 minutes or so in case the battery was so low that it needs to trickle charge first before it can start.

  • IPod Video to TV not working

I can't seem to get my video to display on TV...
-(I'm using apples cable, and have TV video set to Out, iPod video 60g)
Nothing appears on screen, and audio is just static
I've tried on 3 seperate TVs - all via composite inputs.
The video in question was an iTunes Comedy Central show (Lewis Black)
Are we unable to view d'loaded vid's on TV? Or is there something I'm missing.
    Thanks,xandra

Have you tried to play a different video?
    No, don't have
How about playing a song to see if the audio works?
no; just static with these cables
Might simply be a bad cable.
    I think you're right, Chris.
At this point, I'm pretty sure it's a bum cable.
    Tried the following:
connected using dock with S-video + audio cabling (this worked fine)
connected using my older ipod - to composite audio - Also fine, but naturally no video
Only drag is that I bought the cable as part of the Apple Connection Kit. So exchanging just the cable may be an issue (Circuit City)
    Thanks, xandra

  • Switched iPod Video format from PC to Mac - "Restore" fried my iPod

I bought an iPod Video 30gb in Dec. 05. I originally formatted it to work with my Dell PC Inspiron laptop. Everthing worked great and I didn't have any problems. About two months ago I bought a Macbook and transferred all of my files, including my music, from the former to the latter. I authorized my iPod on my Macbook and registered my Macbook to read all of the music I purchased on iTunes. So, I made the switch from PC to Mac without any problems and my iPod Video worked just fine without any issues. It synched my songs, etc.
Then, about 2 weeks ago I noticed that iTunes would not allow me to update the iPod software because the "Settings" screen that appears when I plugged my iPod into my Macbook said that it cannot update iPods that use the PC format. So, I read the instructions for switching the format of my iPod from PC to Mac and apparently all I had to do was select the "Restore" function in the Settings screen. I did so and it appeared that everything was OK. It erased my iPod, reformatted the software, and then downloaded all of my music.
The next day though the problems started. My iPod started to freeze up; none of the buttons worked and I had to reboot it to shut off the screen. Strangely though, it wouldn't rebott all the way because it didn't boot back up. I waited a few hours and pressed the middle and menu button to try to reboot it again and it worked, but the battery was completely drawn down. I recharged the battery, but the same thing happened again after listening to music for 10 minutes. The iPod froze up, wouldn't respond, wouldn't reboot, rebooted later with an almost dead battery, recharged it and started all over. I thought that perhaps doing the "Restore" function again would fix the problem. So, I "Restored" my iPod two more separate times. But, nothing has worked.
I took my iPod to the SoHo, NYC Apple store this morning and they had no idea what to do. To my extreme frustration, they kept on trying to tell me that there was something wrong with my battery. But, I repeatedly told them that everything was fine until I did the "Restore" function to change the format from PC to Mac. Has anyone heard of this problem? Is there anything that I can do?
    Thank you for your help.

    see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
seems it could be some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, if the above does not solve, then do a Restore with a PC, and see what happen

  • TV picture very unclear when I play ipod videos

Recently I have had a problem playing ipod videos on my tv. It used to work great, but now it only shows a picture with a bad horizontial hold. It constantly scrolls down and movies/vidoes can't be watched. Does it need to be reset?

You should check is the video output is PAL or NTFS. Try both to see which one works best for your TV. Also ... if it`s a big TV, unclear pictures are common, the iPod not having such a high resolution.
    Hope this helped,
    Darie.

  • Borrowing a Friend's iPod video???

    Hi
I don't know whether to post this in the iTunes or iPod forums... So I'll post both. My friend is letting me borrow his iPod video (30 GB) and it has a whole bunch of rap songs on it that I don't really want to listen to. And I have about 200 songs in my iTunes library that I want to put on it. I asked another friend what would happen if I connected my ipod to my computer... and she said that it would wipe all of his songs and videos and replace them with my library. I have a feeling that he wouldnt think very highly of this... So is there a way I can add my library of music... On top of his? And then remove my music when I'm done, and still have his songs on it?
    Thanks so Much!
    Brandon

Why is borrowing a bad idea? And this "turning an active ipod into a harddrive" ... Will that effect something on the iPod. I don't want to return it to him, and 3 days later it crashed. Is there an easier way maybe to clear all of MY songs off of my itunes library and put it on a data disc, or somewhere else in my computer... then connect his ipod to my computer which should automatically upload or show all of his songs on my library right? So If I saved everything on there of his. And kept it on a disc or on my computer... would it be safe to put my files back on my iTunes... and onto the ipod? Did that make sense? Or can I just somehow add my files on top of his files on the iPod. 30 gb holds way more then 300 songs, so I think I'll be okay with the memory.. I just have no idea how to. I'm borrowing it because I got a T-Mobile Sidekick 3 that has a music player and holds as much as a nano. So I sold my iPod nano...Because i figured I can just switch out the songs. But I'm going on a road trip which will require a lot more music. lol..

  • Ipod Video and USB 2.0 with not enough power

    Hi all,
Ok, post number 2 for me. I have noticed another thing in the Ipod Video 30 gig that really has me wondering what is going on. I tested this out in various systems, being the analytical sort, and it seems to be that case. As long as there is enough power in the USB port to accomodate the Ipod, things are fine. Life is good.
But if there is not, even if you are compatible, in Windows, then things will be bad. First of all, your Ipod will freeze. That is bad. The second thing is that your Ipod will not come up as an Ipod in Windows, but will be a generic USD device drive. pretty awful.
So you have to reset the Ipod, and make sure that your USB port has enough power dedicated to it for the Ipod to be plugged into it. How much power is this baby sucking up anyways? On my machine at work, if I plug it in, and it only has a keyboard and mouse on it, it will not work. What is that?
    Any help is much appreciated:>
    Thanks
    Grubster

You may have noticed that as a Windows user you get little to no response in this forum to questions. Wrong side of the tracks you know.
Anyway, I have found the same issues. I surmise that the real issue is that IPods are designed to be used with a MAC. There are of course literally tens of millions of Windows users out there so Apple was obliged for business reasons to accomodate them. The power issue is just one of the many problems Windows users have. Most non-hub and non-keyboard USBs will have enough power. Not all but most.
Keep in mind that I think MACs ROCK!! I would have had one if they were compatable with the machines already in my office. The IPod it great. The issues can be worked around.

  • Will ipod video cases work with ipod classic?

I'm hesitant to buy one since the classic is a bit thinner.. I don't want it to have a bad fit. Anyone tried one out?

The skin I bought for my iPod video fits on my dad's 80GB iPod classic, but there's really teensy weensy gap between the base rubber and the iPod's metal backing.

  • 5th Generation iPod video locking up getting hot not respond

I have the 5thGen iPod...connected to 1.8 Dual G5 Power Mac w/ current OS X Tiger/iTunes current version/. The First couple of days it worked fine video(Handbrake converted DVD's),songs all worked great.
The last time I charged the iPod it was stuck in (do not disconnect mode) and very very hot! I reset it and it came back up... Later some of the video files would play then all the sudden I would get thrown out to the Menu list... Now I removed all the fles from the ipod and tried to reload them (video and audio files) itunes/ computer locks up while updating
Has anyone had these problems? did I get a bad iPod?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 30GB iPod Video battery Issue?

I have noticed a problem with my 30GB iPod Video recently. I've had it for about 1 and a half years now with no problems until now.
I think the battery may be on its last legs as it seems to discharge a lot sooner than it used to (i.e. fully charged Monday, by Wednesday its displaying "very low bat warning" upon sync - and that's with hardly any use!). Even on the Apple Support site (here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60970) there's a page stating that it should take up to 2 weeks to discharge! This has happened the last 3 times i've synced and charged it!
Is this a sign that the battery is on its way to battery heaven (or ****)?

The symptoms do match a bad battery. Also, from what I've seen on the forum, a year-and-a-half is about normal (obviously depending on usage).

  • Reactions I get when showing off my iPod Video

So far, everyone I have shown my new iPod to has been wowed. It seems even a lot of non Apple types act like they have heard of the new video iPod even before I show it to them. They all are anxious to see the picture and screen quality. Everyone I have shown if to thinks the screen image quality is incredible, which I agree it is.
The very next thing they ask is "Where is the sound?"
Although I know my iPod is mostly for my personal use, there needs to be some type of non obtrusive speaker that we can attach or keep attached to at least get some basic sound through w/o having to pull out the ear buds.
I'd like to see a super thin yet full size speaker unit that sits flush against the back of the iPod, yet that has a small base that the iPod connector locks into. With the thinness of the 30GB iPod, and even a similar thickness speaker, the whole assembly wouldn't be much thicker than my old iPod Photo.
The other thing across the board that is interesting is people's reaction to the $299 price point. Everyone seems to think that is a good price, and are frankly surprised it doesn't cost more!
Finally, they are amazed by it's capacity. My iPod Video right now has close to 1900 songs, 1800 photos, and 34 videos, 2 of which are full length films. Out of the 27.8GB total capacity, I am only using about 10GB, so I can more than double my current content, which at the level of stuff I have on it now, amazes people!
    But.........
Yesterday I couldn't resist and took off the plastic film that was over the face of theiPod when I opened it. I quickly, in the same day, decided I didn't want to risk the screen getting badly scratched, so I put it in it's iPod sock, and took it to Staples, and got some PDA screen protectors and covered it right there in the store. Even with it being uncovered only for a couple hours, and barely touched, I ended up getting small scratches on the screen. My iPod Photo that I still need to sell after long usage still doesn't have a scratch on it. This new plastic scratches ridiculously easy!
But here's what kills me: these thin sheets of plastic film can take me using my fingernail to get the air bubbles out from underneath and still not scratch, but the surface of my iPod can't?? And what happened to this supeer strong polycarbonate that was developed for the iBook? Wouldn't that be tougher than this? Go even further back and try to remember the frosted clear plastic of the toilet seat iBook. That stuff never scratched.
I love my new iPod, but it is wrapped in screen protectors till I can get a case and a hard plastic screen protector for it.

I just bought my first video, U2's "City of Blinding Lights", from the iTunes store, & I can't believe how clear it really looks on the screen & of course it sounds great. I haven't showed it yet to anyone but my husband & he says it looks good.
I haven't taken the covering off of the front of my iPod since everyone says that it scratches so bad. I don't have anything on the back of it, so I'm trying to be careful not to get scratches on it. I haven't find a good case that fits it yet, but I've been looking.
I would like to put my concert clips from my computer on my iPod, but I really don't want to shell out $30 for Quicktime Pro. Anything else out there that's maybe free or at least cheaper?

  • IPod Video movie importing problems

I'm having issues importing h.264 mp4's into my new iPod Video. I get a message that says it can't be copied because it can't be played on this iPod. I originally imported all my Seinfeld that I own into my computer using Handbrake. I chose h.264/mp4 settings and it has been fine all along until now. I've had success using VisualHub to convert them into iPod ready format, but when I look at the video settings, nothing looks different as far as format.

Try converting with Instant Handbrake, that always works for me.
    http://mirrors.m0k.org/handbrake/testing/Instant-HandBrake-20060421.dmg
Too bad none of my videos are visible anymore. I had all of Season 4 of Seinfeld. Now I get to bring up the hidden files to back it up and restore. That's gonna suck.

  • IPod video 80gb help??

I just got a new iPod video 80gb for Christmas.
But when i plug it into my PC, it won't start syncing.
All i get i message from iTunes saying something like: The software required for communication with the iPod-unit is not properly installed. Install iTunes again to install the iPod-software. (Bad translation from norwegiean to english, but it's something like that).
And well, i have installed iTunes again (two times) but the same error just keeps showing up.
I've tried to use a different cable, different USB port, and so on, but nothing works.
I do got a iPod mini 4gb that was syncing just great with iTunes, but when i got my new one, after installing iTunes again, even my iPod mini won't sync.
So do anyone know what i should do? That message is all i get, and I've heard with other that it is supposed to come up some questions and stuff the first time you plug the iPod in, but I haven't even seen that.
So if anyone got some suggestions for what to do. I will be grateful.
    Sorry my bad english btw:p
