Bad ithmb files preventing PhotoLibrary backup

I am having problems backing up my iPhoto Library.
I have tried various methods, to two different destinations, and get a message about a bad ithmb file which aborts the copy. When I tried to discard that ithmb file, I get the same message for another ithmb file.
I have one back up of my Library. It seems to have the same problem. When I try to copy it from the external drive it is on, to another drive I get the same error message.

Okay. That fixed my iPhoto problem.
Now I can't sync my photos with iTunes though. After dumping the cache. iTunes optimized the photos. I assume that rebuilt the cache? It took a long time. When I came back to check on it, there was an error message that said something to the effect of 'file not available to read or write'
I WAS able to copy the photo library to my iPod using it as an external drive. I did this because I had to delete my previous Photo Library back up from my external backup drive to make enough room for the new auto back-up software to write to that disk.
I left the backup running when I left for work. Hopefully it will run successfully.

How do I restore files from TM backups with broken links?

I have Time Machine backups with broken links all over the more recent backups.
I get the message "The alias “xxx” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found." whenever I click on one of the links.
I have made the backups on my external usb backup drive before before upgrading my internal disk to a larger one.
Two questions: 1) How can I recover the files? 2) What happened, how can I repair the backup if possible?
The sequence of events was: Made the latest backup. Apple ran extended diagnostics overnight at the store and did a reinstall of the OS (10.8.2). I passed on restoring the backup and went to an authorized service center and had them put in a new tera-byte drive. I deleted (in the star-wars display) the oldest two and a middle backup leaving the Aug, Oct, and latest Nov. backups.
Now I see 100's 1000's of bad links. If I look at the backup (just look) with finder I can see directories for July and Sept in addition to the ones I didn't delete.
It appears that the files are probably all there and I could recover them a few at a time if I poke around.
I am tempted to do this before trying to repair the disk. Yes, it will take me ages; but I would rather take the time than a chance at doing -Anything- that could even possibly make things worst. I can see 3 senarios and wonder if anyone can say what would be best. And by best I mean **Safest**.
1) Go in TM to the Aug backup that seems to have no (or maybe only a few) broken links and restore that; then move in TM to newer backups and restore one folder or file at a time on top of it.
2) Do the same thing with a restore of Aug but then use the finder to copy newer files from the backup disk to the new disk.
3) Do essentially the same thing; but do it all in finder.
Of course that still begs the question of what happened and if the backup can be repaired; but to me, that is secondary to getting the data back.
fyi- I have looked at the TM hints and debug-repair file. I realize I can try a repair disk but I am tempted to try to get the data 1st unless someone is Sure a repair won't mung the data more.

I continually see the error message "The backup was not performed because an error occured while copying files to the backup disk" when my time capsule attempts to backup. I have been receiving this message since 14/08/13. I have attempted to locate the file which is preventing the back up and I have not been able to locate it. Any help will be appreciated

Unfortunately... Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...

If you were using Time Machine your backups are deleted at regular intervals to make room for the next backup.
Solution: don't use Time Machine.

This means you are probably not running snow leopard as your profile shows.
What OS are you running?? Mavericks.. is the most likely as it has the most network bugs.

C3 .. but the error might have nothing to do with the real problem.. ie bad networking.
If your MBP has ethernet have you tried turning off wireless and attempting the backup by ethernet??

Corrupt audio file prevents me from opening Logic project file

Hello,
I've been running Logic 8 for a couple years off my MacBook and have never encountered any significant problems of file corruption until recently.
The issue I encountered is this:
I've been producing a lengthy track in an on-going Logic project file for some time and after completing a recording session I saved and started deleting excess track copies to clean up my arrange window. Upon doing so Logic unexpectedly crashed.
After attempting to reopen the project file, it started its normal process of loading its respective audio files, but now it hangs on one particular audio file indefinitely (I'll refer to it as 'audio file x' for ease of reference), freezing and crashing Logic as a result. All of this project file's auto backup files are also incapable of being opened without giving me the same result and crashing Logic.
I have no way of opening this project file and getting at my most recent saved sequence!
I've tried removing this corrupt 'audio file x' from the project's audio folder and dragging it to the desktop, but this had no effect and I still can't open any recent version of the project file.
Older saved copies of the current project file do still open though (most likely because they were saved prior to the corruption caused by this suspect 'audio file x.') When opening an earlier iteration of the project, I get a message '1 invalid audio region found' (I assume referring to the corrupt suspect 'audio file x' that I removed to the desktop) but the project file is still able to open.
I realize I could import the audio files from the most recent version of the crashed file to an older project version and reconstruct things back to the way they were, but it would take me a lot of time and I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the un-openable project file by getting it to stop looking for this corrupted 'audio file x' on startup.
When I click 'show package contents' of the Logic Project file, I notice two items labeled 'displayState' and 'documentData.' From my troubleshooting I've come to the basic understanding that the 'documentData' file contains all the sequence data and settings for its respective Logic Project file.
I think the 'document data' of the unopenable project file in question may be corrupt because whenever I replace it with the 'document data' from an earlier Project file version, the file is able to open. This doesn't do me much good though, because it's document data from an earlier iteration of the project and I need to be able to get at the current sequence I had right before my file crashed.
Is there anyway to open a project file without letting it load its audio files? Or is there anyway I could get inside the 'document data' file to delete the reference/pathway in its audio bin to the corrupt 'audio file x' its hanging on?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping there's some way I won't have to repeat a couple days worth of work. Thanks for your help!

Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
Try this.
Reboot the Mac.
Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.

Bad allocation file- any hope?

Hi there- having problems with a 15" Powerbook G4 running OSX.4.9 (possibly .10). Friday the computer was unbootable with the system disk- would automatically start up from my TechTools eDrive. Volume or directory problems on the start-up drive, so I couldn't do volume tests (or they failed), with "Bad header" error, and couldn't test disk permissions using Disk Utility. Took to Apple store- where the genius at the bar tried to recover the directory structure but said he couldn't do it.
Skip to this morning- I was about to reinstall OSX but the start-up disk worked! After an immediate home-folder backup, I'm trying TechTools again, and now show the error BAD ALLOCATION FILE. Is there any way to fix this? Would a bad allocation file affect my back-up (ie. should I use a slightly older back-up before these problems started?) Any advice here- I'd really like to avoid having to reinstall the OS and all my apps if possible.

Just a final update here- I ended up wiping the HD and reinstalling. So far the reinstall is going smoothly, although I'll need to figure out who controls the site licenses for some of my apps at my new university...
I had a strange contradiction between Disk Utility and TechTools- techtools showed an allocation overlap error but disk utility showed no problem. I ended up trying the repair in tech tools- the repair process worked, although it damaged some OS files (airport disabled, basically everything with the network preferences was not working). Hence the reinstall.
From the techtools moderator:
"Given the diagnosis and the symptoms, it is likely that there was an allocation overlap that damaged a file important to the operating system. The most it is possible to do is to identify the files. An overwritten sector of a file cannot be repaired."
The one other thing I learned was that Techtools pro is now up to v. 4.5.3- I was using 4.1.1. Apparently the older versions may not work quite as well with Tiger. The upgrade is not downloadable and requires a DVD...

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

I'm surprised that I couldn't find a prior post about this. I bought the adapter that let's you upload photos directly to iPad (which I like a lot - can view/thin/email pics from the road). But when you sync to a PC laptop, it uploads them into my docs as iThmb files. Anyone know if there is either a settings solution to change import type...or software app that will convert a selection of ithmb files jpeg? I don't care about opening them in ithmb and don't want to convert file at a time. someone hipper than me must know how to do this

An .ithmb file is the format used to store pictures on an iPod. There are several applications that can open .ithmb files such as File Juicer and Keith's iPod Photo Reader

under shared it lists my time capsule and my husband's iMac - both use the time machine but we have switched his off temporarily. Clicking on my Time capsule I get "Connected" and "Sharepoint" - I didn't have to enter connect or password
I don't understand stage 5: how and where do I select the disk or volume that contains Time Machine backups ? How do I know which it is? My disk utility lists 160.04 TOSHIBA MK... with sub-heading Macintosh HD. It also lists (with a "CD" icon) HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS22N
Under stage 6, how and where do I Locate your backup ? I try dragging my Time capsule from Finder to the Disk Utility side panel but it won't go. What is my computer's name?

Check Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Sync = "All events" on your iPhone.

How do I find a corrupted file in a backup folder on my computer?

I have recently had to replace the battery in my iphone, but before doing so, I had backed up the phone about 3 times, all saying they were successful. And then I had erased the phone(before I realised the battery was the problem). However when I went back to restore from the backup, it says that it cannot be restored because the backup is corrupt. I read on one site that sometimes if a phone turns off or disconnects while backing, it might cause a corrupt file, and I think that's exactly what my phone did due to the battery issues. The big question is, is it only specific files inside the backup folder that are corrupt? And how do I find out which files they are? Please help.

This can be an issue on other end ( server end ) as export to HTML works fine so Muse is exporting the files correctly but while exporting to external server if it stuck then we should check on server side if there is any problem related to specific file upload.
As a workaround, you can use any FTP client and then upload the exported html files to root location.

How to restore files from a backup in windows 8.1

I did a Factory Image reset recently on my Windows 8.1 PC. I did a backup to an external drive of all my personal files before I did the Factory Image reset.
This backup is listed on the external hard drive as: "Backup files 2014-07-06"
THe properties of this is 322 GB -   765 files   - 17 folders.
THis cannot be all my files UNLESS they were compressed.
The reason i say this is that also on my extrenal hard drive is "Filehistory"
THe properties on FileHistory are: 1.45 TB   - 59,580 files - 765 folders.
I need to restore these files back to my C: drive
I am not confident that the Filehistory has all my files, BUT, since the Backup files 2014-07-06 is so much smaller
than my Filehistory , I do not know what to think.
I have attempted to restore the files from the Backup files 2014-07-06 but get errors that I do not have security clearance. I am the only user on this PC.
I am not very confident that everything is contained on the "FileHistroy" , but I don't really know.
Does anyone have experience with "Backup files' and "Filehistory" that can help me?

The backup file must have become inaccessible. I am not sure about the error message but it can because of virus infection in your PC that your files must have got damaged. If you are not able to restore backup file from File History, tehn you may try backup recvery software to recover data from it. Try this Windows backup recovery sofwtare - http://goo.gl/kYPP6J
