Bad levels in video! She's going toward the light!
Hi all,
In a tape of my mom from an earlier family visit, she's sitting in front of a window. I was just learning to use my camera and the settings were off, washing out the window into just light, changing at various times with the sun.
Now she's getting up there in years, no doubt, but she's not ready to go into the light yet. =) She looks like she's being abducted by aliens.
Can this be fixed at all? Or am I screwed? She's not washed out, in fact she looks good - she's properly lit, just the window behind her is bad.
BTW to all who responded to my post re: the black slug awhile back, I just got back in and marked your posts for points - have not had a chance to get back here as I've been off the board but I didn't forget you! Thanks very much! =)
hi everyone,
thanks for your responses. I was able to correct it just a bit with the 3way color corrector. Not perfect, but better. Acceptable--? Not really but better than nothing. I bumped the highlights down and brought the midranges up just a tiny bit.
I tried to minimize her face time by editing in a lot of photographs over her narration. There were clips where the levels were good so I mostly used those.
Dave, thanks for offering to look at a clip. I meant to get that out to you.
Hate to have this happen on my mom's video biography, but it's probably better to make the mistake there than to make it on a client's project.
Thanks again y'all =)
edit -- why won't this thing let you mark 'solved' on more than one post, if they both mention the solution? That's annoying. Well sorry guys :-/
Now it won't let me mark the rest of the posts as helpful -
Oh well

My mac book keep on beeping and make the beep sound 3 time (same goes to the light) and it won't start up. What should i do?
If you recently installed new ram, make sure it is seated properly.
If that doesn't work try removing one stick at a time to see if one is dead or put original ram back in. -

Itunes symbol and usb cord with an arrow showing the usb going up towards the symbol
I don't know what happened. When we moved I lost my Ipod cord so I bought a holder that would play and charge my ipod. Now it is showing an itunes symbol the cd with the blue music note in front of it iTunes written underneath it and a picture of a usb cable with an arrow going towards the iTunes symbol. Does anyone know why this is doing this and how do I fix it. I bought a new usb cord for my Ipod touch and plugged it in to my computer and nothing happend. I have a password on my ipod and I can't get that screen image to show up all that I see is what I explained above. Can anyone help me?
Try placing the iPod into Recovery Mode and restoring it via iTunes. See this article for instructions on getting your iPod into Recovery Mode.

When viewing flash video, CPU Usage goes to 100%
When I try to watch a streaming video that uses Flash Player (say nbc.com),
my CPU Usage goes to 100%. It causes the audio to crackle, video to freeze,
and ultimately locks up my whole computer. When I check Task Manager,
the Flash Player usage is through the roof. If I can manage to pause the video,
the Flash Player usage drops down to 5%, and similarly overall CPU usage down to only around
5%, but as soon as I press play . . . It very rapidly within 20 seconds sends CPU usage
to 100%. This happens in either Firefox or IE. This is assuming that I can pause the
video quick enough. If I don't, the whole CPU crashes with usage locked at 100%, and
only a hard reboot (power button) will work.
I am running the most recent versions of Flash Player and Firefox on Windows 7.
More specifically:
Flash Player version: 11.5 r502
Firefox version: 18.0.1
I am running Windows 7 Home-Premium 32-bit.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.10 GHz 2.10GHz
Memory: 4GHz installed (2.87 GHz usable)
I have already followed the steps in the "Windows 7 Flash Player Problems" list.
I.E. deleting Flash Player cache, and disabling Hardware Acceleration
But this has not solved the problem.
Please help!!
Thanks!Hi Chris,
I've recorded the complete DXDIAG report at the bottom.
I tried the HTML5 video, and it plays smoothly with no problems,
total CPU usage always stayed below 10%, and Flash was always at 0%.
I tried the non-HMTL5 video, and it did play fine all the way through,
Flash Player usage seemed to fluctuate between 10-20%, with memory
usage slowly creeping up to 93,000K. Typically on the videos on NBC.com
say, the flash player usage would rapidly go to 150,000K and simultaneously
the flash player CPU usage would skyrocket: 20%, 40%, 70%, . . . taking
the CPU usage to 100% and causing the problems I mentioned. In
fact, YouTube is probably one of the few video sites where I typically
don't have problems. Once the Flash Player would get out of hand, typically
the video would start skipping and the audio crackling, then audiodg.exe
would start using 10% resources which would aggravate the problem.
Hopefully you will notice something from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
In the meantime, I will try the Flash 11.6 Beta.
Here is the complete record from DXDIAG:

Trying to play Music Videos and screen goes grey
My music videos worked yesterday and this morning I go and hit play and there is no sound and the screen goes grey.
The DW site should have instructions to create a bootable partition with DW. It sounds like your CD might be bad and if that's the case you won't be able to create a recovery drive.
I suggest you use the Recovery Drive that is installed by Lion. Hold down Command R when restarting your computer. This will boot you into the recovery drive.
Use OS X Recovery Disk Assistant to reset Your files and folder permissions

How can I transfer video taken with my iPhone to my iPad WITHOUT using a computer or iTunes? I'm going to Europe for a month and want to use my iPhone to take pics and video, then come back to the hotel room and use my iPad to edit/store each evening. I don't want to use my iPad to take the video...too large/bulky. And I WON'T have a computer with me...I purchased the iPad to take with me so I could use the RDC to my home computer and avoid taking my computer at all. Is this possible?
here is a cheaper solution than camera kit and a lot easier if you have WIFI available.
I use the PhotoSync APP (I think its a $1.99) will transfer videos and photos over WIFI to any other IOS device or even PC/MAC. Great app since I like doing video and photos on my IPHONE and transfer to IPAD2 without synching through computer or doing cloud based storage.
You can even send photos/videos from your MAC/PC to your IOS devices that way too. Makes it so much easier.

My phone started acting up and I noticed my text messages were not being sent. So I turned my iphone off. My iphone 4s turned off properly but when I went to put it back the apple icon came on and then an image I have never seen before of a UBS pointiing towards the word itunes in a circle. And the phone no longer goes beyond this message. I try to turn it off and on again and same message over and over. If I hit the any button on the phone nothing happens. Does anyone know what this means or seen this itunes messaging ? meltdown? Please help.
Hello Raja,
Thank you so much for your response. I had these photos backed up on iCloud but, had I not, its good to have an alternate solution as the one you suggested. Actually, I went to the Apple store today and yes, you are absolutely correct Restoring in iTunes will result in permanent loss of photos unless backed up somewhere such as iCloud or other solution. Well, what they did was restore the phone in itunes ( I did not have iTunes downloaded to my computer which is why it did not work when I went to do it myself, I needed to go to the iTunes site and go to the download iTunes button because my windows based HP laptop does not come with itunes already downloaded). This retoration process took a while and I was forced to upgrade to the latest 7.1 iOS software which I was not too happy about -sometimes you like the way things work now :-) Anyhow, they said this restoration request happens as a result of a software update (which I was NOT in progress of an update or doing an update) or sometimes when you remove the power cable too quickly from the iphone (which I do not recall doing this either but...). Since I had backed up on iCloud all of the photos were downloaded back on my iphone 4s. Best of all was that my phone was back up and runnning and there was NO CHARGE at the apple store for this service of restoring my phone. Well, I just wanted to share the results and I appreciate all the responses and support I received. Thank you kindly. -
Photo in video cut when going from "Quick" to "Expert"
I created a video using Premiere Elements 11. I used a video I took on a Canon T3I and pics saved on the computer and edited using Photoshop Elements 11. I created the video with the Premiere Elements 11 set to "Quick." With the video created this way it worked fine and it up;loaded to you tube and worked perfectly on there. I then opened the completed video file and saved a copy. I then opened the copy and clicked the "Expert" button. After the screen had changed to go from "quick" to "expert" I noticed that one of the pics in the video was cut and replaced with a red and black screen that says "media off-line" in several languages. The caption from the original pic is still there but when I play the video on Premiere Elements 11 the picture is not there and when the video plays it shows the red and black media offline screen. The pic that was eliminated is a .tiff file. what happened to that pic and how can I fix it? Thanks.
Henry XYZ
I suspect that somewhere along the line you moved the source media that went into the project.prel after the project prel (project file) was saved closed. Let us see.
But, I need to go through your details to see where that might have happened. I want to make sure we are distinguishing between import source media, source media on the Quick view Filmstrip, source media on Expert view Timeline, and the export of the source media to a file.
1. You set up a project with video and photo content in the Quick view. And, uploaded that to YouTube. Am I correct that the uploaded to YouTube was from Quick view Filmstrip via Publish+Share/Online/YouTube?
2. What did you save when you wrote
I then opened the completed video file and saved a copy.
Was that a copy of the project.prel (project file) that you saved via File Menu/Save A Copy or something else?
3. Then you wrote
I then opened the copy and clicked the "Expert" button. After the screen had changed to go from "quick" to "expert" I noticed that one of the pics in the video was cut and replaced with a red and black screen that says "media off-line" in several languages.
Assuming that is the copy of the project.prel file and given that you switched to the Quick To Expert view and noticed a missing photo (.tif) when viewing in Expert view, what next?
a. When you first opened the project.prel copy, apparently it opened in Quick. Did you see the photo at this point?
b. When you went to Expert view and found the photo missing, did you go back to Quick? If so, was the photo still there?
4. Do you have any drive letter changes going on in all this? Where is the source media for this project saved?
Please review. Your reply will help us to help you resolve this matter.
It is not uncommon for the Quick view not to offer features or present as does the Expert view. But I have rarely if ever run into instances of the reverse.
So, please check the save location of the "missing" photo in Expert as to what is going on there. Premiere Elements project has only copies of the source media and these copies link back to the originals at their hard drive save location.
Thanks.

When I download a movie I bought on my iPad onto my iPhone it downloads completely but doesn't show up in my videos, what is going wrong?
Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

Hope this helps!
Cheers,

Video intermittently not going to Firewire DV output -- crashes too!
I have 2 very annoying issues with video in Logic. Video goes through firewire to a Canopus ADVP 300.
There's a 50/50 chance that on opening a session that the video will not show up on the screen but rather in the little video preview window on the upper left of the Arrange window. It requires double-clicking on the picture to send it out to the firewire. The video is saved and screenset-locked with the video going out the firewire. It's annoying!! Does anyone know what's going on??
Also, there are occasional crashes which seem to be due to video, judging by this:

Any ideas about that? You're not losing firewire control when you switch over, you are losing the video playback. Even if you were viewing your canvas on your desktop you would still go back to a ragular screen when you switch apps. You would probably have to monkey with your external monitor to adjust how it responds to a lack of signal.

Videos are not going on to my ipod!
every time i put a video that i bought off of the new itunes model on my ipod, after a little time something pops up saying "attemptine to copy to the disk "ipod" failed the disk could not be read from or written to.", but when i put on a video that i bought from the old itunes model, before i upgraded, the video goes on! why won't my new videos go on and my old ones will? and how can i fix this problem so my new videos go on my ipod?
See if this troubleshooting article helps.

My daughters itouch was stolen today...is there any actions i can or should be taking so that all the pictures and videos she has taken can be deleted?
Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. This requires action before the device is lost/stolen. If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.
