Bad links to songs on Itunes

When I got my new computer, I accidently imported my songs more than once.  I ended up with two, three, or once even nine copies of certain songs.  As I have been deleting them from my folder, the songs keep appearing on I-Tunes, but come up as bad links when I click on them.  Is there a way to make I-Tunes automatically delete the bad links that are created?

Welcome to AD!
Have you set up WIndows so it will always use the same drive letter for that exHD? Plugging in cameras, etc to different USBs can make windows reassign things on you.

Do you know what drive letter it should be, like E: or F:? Is it still that same letter?

  • Best way to reconnect link from songs in iTunes to music library?

Recently my hard drive crashed and I lost my iTunes Music Library. In order to restore it, I purchased a new external hard drive and used the PodUtil software to copy all of my songs from my iPod to my new hard drive. This worked great but I am now seeing the dreaded exclamation point next to all of my songs. I did change the location of the library pointer in my preferences to my new iTunes folder and I thought that would solve the problem but it didn't. When I tried playing some of the songs, the links were restored and the exclamation points disappeared. However, I have noticed that many of them still have a broken link and I determined that it's due to the fact that the PodUtil program re-catalogued some of the songs with different folder and file names and iTunes is not recognizing them because the original file path is different. Does anyone know the best way to proceed with restoring these songs without losing the library data for the songs (play count, rating, last played, etc.)? Do I have to relocate each song one by one?

So when I realized that iTunes wasn't recognizing the songs because the path/filename was modified, I tried to change the folders/filenames to what they were before they were modified. (I do a periodic export from iTunes and used my most recent export to determine the previous path.) When I corrected the folders/filenames to what iTunes recognized, the songs could be played and the exclamation points disappeared. Going forward, should I do this re-cataloging (restoring the folder/filename) for each unrecognized song, or should I re-locate the song through iTunes? The latter sounds like the easier method although when I tried doing it for one of the songs it appear to create a duplicate of the song. Anyone know why?

  • Linking two songs

I searched and couldn't find anything on this. What I'd like to do is "link" two songs so that when I play songs from my library in shuffle mode, if the first song comes up, it is automatically followed by the second. For example, Queen's "We will rock you" followed by "We are the Champions" just seems right.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Are these MP3 files? If so, try a program called MP3 Splitter/Joiner. It would nice to logically link the songs in iTunes but I don't know if that can be done. Physically joining the files may be the only option.
There are two tracks that I'd lke to link as well. It is the diva singing in "The Fith Element" tracks: "Lucia Di Lammermoor" and "The Diva Dance".

  • Bad link in iTunes Collections

When I click on iTunes Collections/The 60's year by year/ and pull down the year 1969, iTunes shows me songs from the year 1996 instead. I've written to them twice, but they don't seem to understand that I'm trying to tell them that THEY have a problem with their link...not me! Anybody else see this?? Thanks.

I buy CD's so I've never ventured into the Apple Store. But I had to check this out. By going to 1969 I find Los Del Rio, 2pac, Alanis Morissette, No Doubt, Jewel, etc. Yes, indeed, clicking on 1969 gets me 1996 songs. Yuck.
With iTunes open, click on iTunes/Provide iTunes Feedback. Describe in detail the steps and links to get to that page. I got the same bad link you did.

You'll need to copy the content on your iPod back to your iTunes library first.  Once you have successfully done that you can safely erase and sync your iPod.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Is it possible to link songs in itunes?

I'd like to be able to link certain songs together, as often heard on the radio for tunes like Train, Train, by Blackfoot; or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are the Champions.

Perhaps creating a static playlist would take care of that.

  • TS1424 faulty song from iTunes

    Hi everyone,
just wondering if someone could help me.
I bought a song from iTunes a couple of weeks ago and it was fine..... however 2 weeks ago I noticed that it stops halfway through and goes to the next song. This has never happened me before so I don't think it could be my iTunes inself.
Has anyone come across this before??
    thanks

You should try this suggestion given to me by b noir as follows:
"I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entries, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items."
I did the same for two "bad/corrupt" songs (would not play to the end) I purchased/downloaded from the iTunes Store...Customer Support emailed me in less then 24 hours, and posted "fresh copies" of the songs to my account for "re-downloading"...happy to report the songs playback fine now.

  • HT201272 I purchased songs from iTunes Radio on my iPhone, but now the only place they will show up is in the iTunes Store app on my phone, even after syncing to my computer a million times, the songs do not show up in my library or anywhere else.

I purchased songs from iTunes Radio on my iPhone, but now the only place they will show up is in the iTunes Store app on my phone, even after syncing to my computer a million times, the songs do not show up in my library or anywhere else. My phone is not syncing properly, I wanted to add another playlist to it that I created on my Mac. I pluged in my phone and made sure the playlist I wanted to add was checked to be on my phone when I synced.
The playlist I wanted to add was "Country." It is clearly checked. I also wanted to add the "Recently Added" playlist, which I also checked before sycing. Currently, my phone only has the "Purchased" playlist and my "All Songs" playlist on it. When I hit sync, iTunes added another playlist automatically added another playlist to the list above and checked it. It was titled "ALL SONGS 1" and had ten fewer songs in it than the playlist I had created, "ALL SONGS" had. This playlist, however does not show up on my phone after syncing, nor does "Country" or "Recently Added." (Every time I sync, another playlist is created as "ALL SONGS 2, 3, 4, etc.") One of the songs (I have not, yet checked the other songs) that I purchased from within iTunes Radio shows up in the "ALL SONGS 1" on this screen:
But does not show up anywhere else. This playlist does not show up anywhere but the two screens above. The ALL SONGS 1 or 2 playlists do not show up here:
When I search for those song in my library, it shows that I do not have them:
But if I go to the iTunes store, I get the play button and not the price of the song:
This is what things look like from my phone's side of things:
"Summertime Sadness," one of the songs I bought from iTunes Radio, does not show up in the iTunes store under purchased "All" or "Not on This iPhone"
But, it does show up under "Recent Purchases"
Also, this is what playlists are on my phone after syncing a million times:
Only what was on there before I started any of this. "Summertime Sadness" and the other songs I bought from inside iTunes Radio, do not show up in either of these playlists. Please, help me.

  • Why is it that whenever I download a song from Itunes that a small grey round button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress button), but when I press on it to resume, the song disappears. This wasn't happening before.

Why is it that whenever I download a song from itunes that a small grey button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress) but whenever I hit it to resume, the song disappears. I am getting annoyed with having to copy the songs manually onto my phone. Thanks for anyones help. Cheers

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • How can I play the songs in iTunes on my Android phone?

I am a new comer to iTunes.  I just purchased a couple of songs from iTunes and it plays correctly on my iMac and iPad.  I have following questions and seeking the answers.
    1.  Are the songs sited on iTunes server and streaming when I play the song?  It requires internet connection to play the songs.  Can I download the songs onto my device to avoid internet connection.
    2.  Can I play the songs on my Android phone?
    3.  I have some songs on my iMac and appears in the iTunes.  How can I sync with my iPad (currently not appear in the iTunes of my iPad)?
    Thanks!

i guess the existance of an app means that itunes for the iphone cannot alphabatize itself.  that seems a little odd, given the new updates.  do you use this app?  i've gotten used to the functionality of the standard music app, and am curious how this one compares in terms of usage.
thank you for the link wjosten.

  • I purchased an ablum thru itunes on my phone and it says i purchased the songs on itunes but when i go on my music it says i have to repurchase all the songs how can i get the songs with out havin to pay again

I purchased an ablum thru itunes on my phone and it says i purchased the songs on itunes but when i go on my music it says i have to repurchase all the songs how can i get the songs with out havin to pay again

Whether you can redownload music depends upon what country that you in. If you are using your computer's iTunes then does music show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (on your phone you might be able to redownload media via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app) ? If music shows there, but not that album, then check to see if it's hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If you aren't in a country when you can redownload music and it's still on your phone then you should be able to copy it over from the phone via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.

  • Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.

Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.  This onloy seems to happen when I double-click on the song to play it in itunes.  If I just hit play, this doesnt happen.  As a result, I have several albums now in which the songs are in the wrong order.  Its very frustrating, as this error then transfers over to my ipod every time I sync it.  When I choose the info. for the songs, it has them correctly listed (i.e., it lists the songs as being #1 of 19 on the CD, for example).  But then the song will have placed by Itunes as #5 of 19 for whatever reason.  Itunes does not do this every time, but does it with enough frequency to be maddening.  Any thoughts?

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks

  • IPod Classic not syncing all my songs from iTunes

Background: I've had my 160GB iPod classic for 5+ years and been using iTunes for close to ten years. I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and up until recently I've been updating both iTunes and iPod whenever updates are available. After the horrible experience of upgrading to iTunes 11 and trying for over a month to get used to working with all the annoying bugs and compromises in functionality that Apple stupidly introduced into what was once a really good piece of software, I decided a week ago to downgrade to version 10.7. I went thru all the necessary steps to make this downgrade work, eliminating the various error messages, etc, and it appears now that my earlier version of iTunes is fully functional.
But when I connected my iPod to sync new songs, I kept getting a message to scan and fix the disc on my iPod. I wasn't sure if I should do that so I ignored the prompt a few times. Then last night I decided to restore my iPod and start from scratch. The disc error message has gone away, but now it is not syncing all the songs it is supposed to.
Af far as I know there are no broken links and all the songs in my music library are located within iTunes, so that is not the issue. There may be some songs with the same title and artist but that appear on different albums, so those should not cause a problem. At this point I have too many songs to fit on my iPod so I have selected to sync only checked songs, and I have unchecked over 1000 songs in iTunes, so that when I connect the iPod, it doesn't tell me that there is not enough free space to sync the iPod, it just syncs the checked songs.
Before restoring my iPod, I had 14161 songs in iTunes, with 1105 of those songs unchecked so as not to sync them in the iPod. I did the math and that left 13056 songs that are checked, and that was how many songs showed up in the iPod after syncing it, with about 1GB of free space left on the iPod.
Now, after restoring my iPod, I get only 13009 songs showing up in the iPod, meaning 47 songs are missing (with exactly 1.4GB free space).
How can I troubleshoot this to find out what songs are missing and why, and then fix it? Is there an easy way to approach this daunting task? I am really fussy about my music library and am not the kind of casual user who just loads a bunch of stuff on my iPod and doesn't care if there are duplicates, broken links, missing songs. I manage my own library very assiduously each time I import new music and make sure it is tagged and filed correctly according to my own system. I want to fix this issue.
Could it be a problem with me using a newer version of the iPod updates with an older version of iTunes? And is there a way I can correct that, possibly downgrade the iPod software version I have now? Would it be worth the trouble to try restoring the iPod again, and if so, what precautions do I take to prevent the same thing happening again, where not all my songs get synced to the iPod.
Thanks to anyone who can offer some helpful advice...
