Bad overall macbook pro build?

Hi, I had my macbook pro for about six months now, and most of the time it's been giving me problems to the point where its becoming a hassle. In the upcoming week, the visit to the genius bar for technical support will probably be my 5th time. So far, I had problems with the following: extremely hot macbook temperatures, installation becoming corrupted suddenly, extremely slow boot up time (apple logo + desktop), hard drive clicks ( clicks about 5 times in a row, the last one seems like the harddrive just stops), whenever i use apps such as safari, the whole desktop just freezes sometimes for 5 mins and goes back to normal. I am very careful with my macbook pro, making sure it is on a clean area, good ventilation etc. I was wondering if it's possible to completely just replaced my macbook pro for another one. I probably had to reformat my macbook pro at least once per 2 months. Recently, my macbook isn't going to sleep, I can't set it to sleep even using commands, the whole macbook heats up, not only the speaker areas, but as well as the areas next to the trackpad. The area where the RAM slots are located tend to get hotter than usual. I have istat pro installed, and temperature have risen 20-30 F higher than usual. My battery never really heated up until a couple days ago, and it begins to drain pretty quickly now. Instead of having to deal with this problem and keep making constant trips, is there a chance that I can just receive a new one or a replacement? Thanks for the help in advance!
Rodrigo Kim

When you say extremely hot, just how hot exactly? As you may have read, the MBPs tend to get quite hot. For example, I have Pages, iTunes, M-audio FW soundcard plugged in, Safari and Mail running and my temperature is 65C. The little strip at the back of keyboard is pretty hot! I've also had my machine get to 96C when importing a CD in iTunes (although I admit even this is a little too hot)! If I'm running an intensive Logic project I'd expect my machine to hit high 70s. Photoshop usually brings things to 85C. Anyway, these machines can withstand high temps so I imagine it isn't as much of a problem as you think.
As for the clicking, long bootup and corrupted installation, these problems may all be fixed with a simple harddrive replacement. From recent experience, Apple Support has been good. My GFX card fried the other week and they replaced the Logic board (and also the battery because I complained about it). So yeh, give it a go. They might not replace the machine, but they will certainly replace broken parts. However, just lay it on a bit thick and see what happens!

What's the year and model number? If you go under Apple menu->About This Mac->More Info->System Report, you can find the model number - something like "MacBookPro8,3".

  • Flickering Screen on my Macbook Pro Build June 2012

    Hi.
i have a macbook pro build june 2012, not a retina display.
i have also changed the Opitical Drive for another SSD so i have two SSD's in the macbook pro.
i have a video of the problem of which i can show if need be.
the problem is the bottom half of the screen flickers, it does not do it all the time but when it does it does it is for a long time! which is most annoying!
any solutions to fix this problem?
is it a loose connection? is it a graphics card issue? is it a motherboard issue?
anyone had any experience of this and what you did to fix it? and how much it cost?
    thanks.

Your best option is a genius bar appointment.  Have the video for the technician to view if the MBP is behaving normally for him.
This sounds like a hardware issue without a software solution.
    Ciao.

  • VERY BAD SOUND: MacBook Pro (unibody) with external JBL Creature speakers

Recently I've bought myself a brand new Mac Book Pro. I'm very happy with my new laptop, but I can't say that about the audio-output quality my new MacBook Pro delivers in combination with my existing external JBL Creature speaker set. In the recent past this speaker set was attached to my old iMac 17" flat, which delivered supreme music quality, but now in combination with my by far more superiour new MacBook Pro, the music sounds very disturbed with a background noise and it seems that the speakers do get to much power/signal - but still the music sounds very far away and the more I pump the volume the worse gets the music output (i.e. more noise is coming out of the speaker) and the right channel seems to have less power (or output). Now I've disconnected my JBL Creature speakers set as from time to time also static ticks are loudly to be heard when just connected whilst I don't do anything with my MacBook Pro.
Can anyone tell me whether this is a problem of the audio-design of the new MacBook Pro (aluminium unibody) and if so is there a solution for to by-pass or overcome this very annoying problem.
Many thanks in advance for your support!

It is true that the audio quality is a total crap, the audio card seems to be "Realtek" and yes it is ****, I am really ****** cause it is not a cheap computer and I have always used mac too and I am really disapointed. I just can't believe that Apple has passed by the audio quality that is so carefully observed in the ipod products. I have been blessed (no, it is really a curse) with a very sensitive unhuman high frequency hearing and my ears really hurt when I use the earphones with the Macbook notPro and I use it at low volume. You can even hear when the sound system goes off when no sound is played for a little while and the when a sound is played goes on and the noise begins. Also you can hear strange whistles and sissings wich are not continuous but the main amp noise is there. This kind of noise is produced by bad quality, low eficiency amplifiers or other factors I do not know. But I have tested several realtek integrated cards and the all are pure crap or less than crap.
    Ok bye, bye.

  • Print Quality Bad from MacBook Pro

From my G4, OS 9.1, printing to my Brother 2070N has always been terrific. Now, from MacBook Pro, 10.5.6 the text looks bad, like a coarse screen has been applied. I see nowhere in the Page Set-up to check that the correct resolution has been selected. No longer is there a choice of 300 or 600 dpi.
Is this a driver issue and how to rectify. Thanks.
    Al B

Yes. The correct printer driver is selected but there are no options to change resolution. In 9.1 there are radio buttons to select 300, 600 and 1200 DPI. Nothing in Page Set-up in OS 10.5.6 unless I'm just missing something. It's as if its defaulted to a lower resolution. Will installing the complete set-up from Brother change this or am I forced to use the CUPS version?
    Thanks,
    A

  • Current MacBook Pro Build

Hello: Apple recently released a new MacBook Pro. What is the Build # of this current MacBook Pro ? I'm going to an Apple Store an I want to make sure I have the newest MacBook Pro (17") version. Thank-you, MLR

If it has a Thunderbolt port (with a lightning-bolt icon beside it) on its side, it's the latest.

  • Bad Quality Macbook Pro and Deficient Apple Technical Support in Argentina!!!

I have a Mac Book Pro that I bought a year ago and the last couple of months have been working really bad!
I sent it to the technical support and they told me they have to change several parts of it. After 2 months I'm still waiting for a response using a terrible slow machine that works like crap.
This was my first Macbook Pro and I was happy that I wouldn't have so many problems as in my previous Ubuntu PC but now I realized how silly I was, components from this Macbook Pro seems to be really bad and getting it fixed in countries like Argentina is almost impossible.
I'm a computer engineer and I've been really unpdroductive during the last months, so this make me consider the idea of going back to Linux or even a Windows Machine, since having a Macbook Pro proved to be a terrible experience for someone who really needs to trust in their computer.
I'm travelling to San Diego next week, does anybody know how can I fix this problem there or something?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry eww about that, I'm not sure what parts need to be replaced apart from the logic board (it seems that is the motherboard + microprocessor).
I'm not sure mac users can do something to help me, but I was expecting that after my experience other people willing to have mac support in Argentina realizes that it's really bad!
    Thanks again for your interest!

  • Performance terribly bad in macbook pro

    Hi,
In less than a month ago, I bought a macbook pro. It was my first mac! ohhh what a pretty machine. Nice hardware, good looking interfaces...
but now, I don't know why, I feel that everything takes a lot of tame to execute. The most notable is safari browser itself. When a webpage contains "autocomplete" controls, it can take up to 15 seconds to show something (those websites are facebook, or live mail, and both work well in my windows partition).
As I said, I have a windows partition in the same computer, created with boot camp, and everything seems to go better ther. So I don't know if the problem comes from the operative system, or from the safari itself...
    thanks

  • TS5296 Battery life is really bad on MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15'' late 2013.

Using only Safari, iTunes and a couple of other apps - Dont worry, i'm not using Chrome, as it's a serious battery killer! - on 50% brightness and im getting around 3-4 hours of battery life which is very disappointing.
Any of you with the same Mac model having this issue ?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for your reply.
It is always there since it first appeared few a weeks ago.
But it becomes much more obvious when the fan gets speeding up or gets slowing down.
So I would say it is only gets worse when a CPU intensive application is running.
It is getting hotter. But it is resonable.
But the high pitch sound is really annoying.

  • Are there widespread issues with macbook pro lcds having to be replaced on computers less than a year and a half old

are there any know issues with respect to lcd displays going bad on macbook pros. my computer which sits on a desk and has never traveled outside the home needs a whole new lcd replacement. Its a year and three months old.Pretty bad for an expensive laptop

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Some MacBooks Pro with Retina display have got problems with the display, related to a display manufacturer. However, in this case, it's a common issue and Apple is replacing or repairing all of these computers for free.
In your case, probably it was bad luck. Computers fail, and maybe you have bad luck and your computer has got a defective part that has to be replaced. Fortunately, this rarely happens, and most of the users are happy with their MacBooks Pro

  • Macbook pro Retina 16GB Ram, Install Windows 8 Problem

I cant install windows 8 in 32 or 64 bit on my macbook pro retina with 16 GB of RAM
The instalation progran wont let me install windows on the bootcam partition it appears to be a problem with the MBR Partition Table  on EFI System and windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

    Hey,
if you use windows 8 also for gaming on windows, i would wait until bootcamp is been suitable for windows 8 because for gaming it is much better to do it with bootcamp because Parallels, Fusion etc. are making a detour to use windows ( definately not good for games that score high on graphics).
If you use windows only for utility programs, it is definitely easier to use Parallels 8 etc.
I hope I could help you!
    sorry for eventually bad english

  • Is it bad for the MacBook Pro to play World of Warcraft?

Is it bad for the MacBook Pro to play World of Warcraft?

There will just be a little more wear and tear than "normal" use, because the heat goes way up and the fans max out while playing, as with most gaming. I guess that affects the overall lifespan of the laptop.
I played all the time on my MBP early 2008, and still play on my 2011 MBP. The '08's fans had to be replaced but still works fine.

  • How do I build a family tree on macbook pro

Any suggestions/recommendations on how to build a family tree on my MacBook Pro? Should I use Numbers or Pages? I am used to using Window based programs. Not interested in paying $100 for a template.
I am starting with my grandparents, then their 8 children (my aunts and uncles), then my generation (cousins), then our children, and 1 more generation. Would like to add birth/death/married dates, and possiblly geographical info.
I appreciate your help and time - thank you.

Best of all would be an application designed for the purpose, such as (for example) MacFamilyTree, but you can make a mock family tree using cells in Excel or Numbers.

Yes. Just make sure to deactivate the license on both systems using Apple menu --> Deactivate while one of the suite programs is running.

  • HT3053 Can I run my MacBook Pro Late 2008 without battery forever? Is it bad in long term or anything? Does it make the system less stable?

Can I run my MacBook Pro Late 2008 without battery forever? Is it bad in long term or anything? Does it make the system less stable?
My battery got swollen (and I unfortunately noticed it very late and might have be running with it for months, which potentially explains all the crashes everyday and the trackpad not working anymore, the Apple test also says I have a bar of ram broken...) and I had to remove it because the back pannel did not close anymore... Can I still use my MBP normally forever that way? I was planning on buying a new mac anyway but maybe waiting for the next iMac upgrade in the year... Should I wait?

Other than the system shutting down instantly if you have a power outage, whcih could corrupt the OS. Nothing else bad will happen.
