Martin, listen to CC, the main problem really is overlapping objects (text and digital displays)! The LabVIEW application without overlapping object is 500x faster than yours (See attached, LabVIEW 7.1). I get loop times of below 1ms (>1KHz!) versus your original version with 400-500ms, so LabVIEW can beat your C application by 10x IF you avoid overlapping objects.
(I am using an ancient 1GHz PIII laptop, so the loop times on a modern computer will be much faster)
I agree with Aaron that your property nodes contribute to the problem. After deleting all unecessary property node terminals (they never change!), the only bad one is the constantly variable color scale of the oil pressure. Is this even meaningful to the user? This property write alone costs a few tens of ms(!) so it might be reasonale to either get rid of it completely or update it at a lower rate (In the attached example it happens every 100 iterations, modify as needed (LAbVIEW 7.1)).
If you go back to 200ms loop times, my version will only use a few % of cpu.
Note also that you can do your entire color ramp with 4 elements, six is overkill and just complicates things. I would also get rid of the blinking, it's just too ugly. Use a Red LED to indicate the special condition.
Yes, the performance hit with overlapping objects is surprising, but I am sure there is a good reason and we win elsewhere. It has been my experience that most aspects of LabVIEW are highly optimized under typical conditions (IF properly used!).Message Edited by altenbach on 05-09-2005 01:53 AM

  • Laser Jet P1008 - Very Bad Performance

I have been using HP LaserJet P1008 since 06th june 2008. It worked very nicely during the 2 months only. after that it started to show some problems. we changed its Toner atleast 3 times due to poor quality print outs. Now a days, apart from poor quality print outs, the printer is not respnding on time to the print request. To get a single page print out we need to wait for long time.I tried many times to rectify the problem by calling a technincian, but the thing is still not working properly. What should I do to fix this problem? Is there any option to exchange this printer with a better one by giving additional amount? Thanks

1GHz AMD Dual-Core E1-2100 APU processor is a big let down, whichever brand laptop it is.
Actually, 1GHz is the minimum requirement for Windows 8/8.1 Operating system.
It is the bottlenecking factor for the bad performance you're getting. And the processor is not replaceable also unless you're going for the whole board replacement -

  • HP 15 g010nd bad performance

I was very happy with my old HP laptop but since I bought this one I've got problems with performance with browsing the internet. I was aware that this wasn't a quick machine but the benchmarks for internet use says its ok and performs well.
It's a shame that HP sell such machines and consumers remain with the problems. (also after consulting the support because the problem is known and there is no solution)

  • I'am possibly having bad performance issues

I resently purchased an Hp dv6-3025dx. I didnt purchase this computer for gaming by no means but, kept the option in mind. Since the purchase i've put 2 games on it. one being neverwinter night 2 and team fortress 2 both of which are somewhat old games. I have noticed that i have to put both games on the lowest settings to play them without chopiness. I was wondering if this was an unusual thing. I dont really want to deal with hp's technical support if there isn't a problem as i know its just going to be a pain in the azz. Here are some specs.

  • Bad Performance with NI-VISA and NI-488.2 under Win XP

I have an application (originally developed under LW/CVI 5.5.1), that use VISA for both, GPIB and serial communication. The application runs fine under NT 4.0 but under XP there are delays in conjunction with serial communication, which slow down the whole application. I already compiled the application with LW/CVI 6.0, installed NI-VISA V. 2.6.0 and NI-488.2 V. 2.0 but this didn't change anything. Do you have any ideas?

    Hello Michael,
We have noticed the reduction in system performance in Windows XP when multiple ports are installed, and large packets are being read/written at high baud rates (460.8k). Performance is acceptable when using smaller packet sizes or slower baud rates (115.2k for example). It appeared to be a bug in XP, because the problem was fixed when a prerelease version of XP service pack 1 was installed.

  • Yahoo messenger 3.0 beta crash

Yahoo Messenger 3.0 beta is generally a great improvement, but I have had a couple of bad crashes when using webcam. Viewing webcam is fine (which has not been the case for some time--it has been dysfunctional for quite a while, and it seems that this problem has been quite widespread for Apple users), and when I start my own webcam there seems to be no problem at first, but problems occur after that--I have had one total system freeze (something that hasn't happend since OS 9) and one kernel panic (message telling me to restart the computer).
The freeze (and several less serious application crashes) happened with OS 10.4.6, the kernel panic with 10.4.7, so the problem is definitely with the Yahoo software, not an upgrade issue.
    Any similar experiences or solutions?

    Hi, Larry.
All I can suggest is that you report the problem to Yahoo. Beta code means that the developers know they've not worked out all the bugs and hope users will play "Test Pilot."
    Good luck!

  • Compaq F764CA & Windows 7 Upgrade = bad battery performance

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem.  I upgraded my wife's laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate and while there were some drivers from Vista required to work things out, I have noticed that her laptop battery performance has gone from an average of 2hours with Vista to only 20 minutes under Win7.  There is even a little red cross on her battery system tray icon and hovering over it brings a message that I should install a new battery.  This system is only 1.5 years old so I find the battery issue odd.
Suffice it to say, she is not too impressed so far.  The official word from HP is that her laptop will not be supported for Windows 7 which means no official updated drivers.  I don't understand how HP can say this for a 2 year old computer.
So any suggestions as to what I can do to help make the battery last longer than 20 minutes when it's not plugged in?  If there are no Vista equivalent drivers then I might be stuck and will have to downgrade back to Vista.
Thanks for any tips or advice.
    LoboTiger

Well, you will not like my next comment.  I think the next step is to expect a motherboard problem.  Since this problem has been known about for so long, I was hoping the manufacturers had solved this BUT you system is rather old.  Google "bad caps" for symptoms it you are really interested but that would be my next avenue to explore.  Strange things happen when those "caps" at first deteriorated to the point of failure.  Once they get more age, stranger things will happen or it will just finely fail.  Changing the OS will not solve the problem.
You said in your first post "This machine had Windows XP installed but since the End of Support i have been having problems".  I think your problems were not linked to the EOL of WinXP, unfortunately.

  • Webcam, really bad quality.

I bought a brand new Qosmio x305 a few months ago from Fry's. It is awesome for gaming and all. But, when I went to go to use the webcam recently to talk to a friend the quality is really horrible. It is all fuzzy, gray and keeps blacking out. =/.

the webcam ... quality is really horrible.
Some folks don't know about the protective film covering it. That needs to be removed.
Webcam image is dark, blurred, or out-of-focus
You can also tune things up.

  • Bad webcam frame rate

I had this problem with my PC and hoped it would go away with the Mac, but it hasn't so any suggestions would be welcome. If I use MSN/Yahoo/Whatever to do a video chat with my mates, I receive their webcam pictures nice and smooth, but outgoing I seem to be sending about 1 frame per second. I'm on 1 meg broadband, and things like uploading emails seem to be plenty fast enough, so I'm a little confused. I'm using a wireless connection to a Netgear DG834 router if it makes any difference.
    Matt.

One thing that always helps with wireless connections is:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Network
    2. Choose "Network Port Configurations" from "Show" pull-down menu
    3. Drag AirPort to the top of the list (make sure it stays checked)
    4. Click "Apply Now"
After doing this, try quitting & relaunching iChat (or whatever application you're using). If that doesn't help you could just test with a wired connection and see if it's any better. Chances are if you had the issue with your PC and you had the same internet connection, that's probably the cause.
    good luck

  • Bad webcam on Pavilion 14-v062us

My webcam lasts about 5-10 minutes online before the person on the other end hears nothing but static - the audio goes out and comes back in intermittantly, but it's so distracting I have to end the call with my long-distance family and friends. Anyone have a solution for webcam static interruptions? My sound is otherwise fine on normal video playback and stuff like that.

    Hi @sandra_g ,
    Thank you for your query.
I grasp that on your video call after 5 -10 minutes the audio disappears or becomes unacceptable.
Here is a link to HP Webcam User’s Guide
Here is a link to Automatically diagnose and fix Skype audio and webcam issues from support.microsoft that should help to resolve this issue.
Here is a YouTube Video which may also help. How-to fix a "no sound" problem on my HP Webcam
