Bad playback on Apple TV

I'm having horrible, stuttering, non-responsive playback with movies that are NOT streaming to my apple tv, they are stored on it. WHY?

Playback of Apple Intermediate Codec has no video

Hi there,
My producer is having an issue opening some dailies that were sent to him. When he attempts to open the video clips the video is black but has audio. I have tried playing back the clips successfully on my work station and saw that they were utilizing the Apple Intermediate Codec for playback. I provided him with the Intermediate Codec but he is still unable to see any video. All the workstations available to him are running 10.4, could this be the issue? Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

You need something like Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express to playback using Apple Intermediate Codec. Just having the codec won't work. Convert the video to something he can use, like h.264.

Static lines problem and bad response from Apple employee

I first saw the static lines in my iphone5's keyboard and then again while opening a folder. It was only after 3 days from my purchase. The very next day I went to the Apple store of Shibuya (JAPAN) with my Japanese friend and talked the problem with Apple's employee but the response was really cold(rude, not like that of Apple store employee) Without listening to the whole thing he asked us to consult with Apple's technician in 2nd floor if we have any hardware issues and then leaved us without a single more word. It felt like an insult and then we returned back home with some bad images of Apple's employee in our mind. That was not our first visit there but definitely was first to get such a rude response.
Today once again I saw the same problem in my iPhone5. I am not sure if they will take my problem seriously or not if I visit there again. There in Silicon valley, Tim cook talks about the best customer experience in Apple store, but here in Japan we had a worst customer experience.

ok... just an FYI, this is a user to user forum... therefore no one from Apple will ever see your complaint. You can file your complaint at www.apple.com/feedback. In the situation with your phone, you can also contact your carrier and see if they will swap the device for you. In the USA I have Sprint, and had a similar issue when the 4S was released. Apple claimed they had no fix for it. Then I went to Sprint, and they swapped the phone for me and the issue was resolved. I haven't read anything about this issue with the 5 though.

Bad Playback in HD. I need help PLEASE

Ok here is the situation,
I have been looking all over this site and getting more and more confused.
I have an Panasonic HMC150. Just got it today. I shot some footage in 720x30p. When I watch it played back on my computer monitor I get a great image.
BUT when I try to watch it on an NTSC monitor it looks like Poo. Its shimmering, and has combteeth in it.
What the heck am I doing wrong....I use log and transfer for my files. I have the capture preset set to HDV-Pro-Res422. I have the sequence preset set to Apple ProRes422(LT) 1280x720 30P 48kHz.
I have an AJA IO as video playback. When I try to convert the video to DVD I get the same bad image.....I have no idea please help.

first, The hmc150 is avchd, not hdv. Not sure if this would make any difference.
Now you're downrezzing to playback on an ntsc monitor. Could be an AJA setting problem. but try doing a short test. Export a short clip with current settings. Bring this into compressor and downconvert to ntsc with the appropriate preset customized so that resizing is set to best in the frame controls panel. How does this look on your ntsc monitor.
FWIW, I've working with material shot on this camera right now (but 1080 24p) and it looks beautiful on my ntsc monitor thru a blackmagic intensity pro card from within fcp.

Volume control for video playback through Apple TV2

I am trying to configure the volume settings used on airplay through apple TV2 and a macbook pro and Iphone4 all with most recent updates.
I am using the apple remote app on my iphone to control the apple tv.
Whats working:
Using the pandora app on my iphone through aiplay to the apple tv, I can control the volume using the plus and minus buttons on the side of the iphone for volume control. Very cool and easy.
Using the apple remote app on my iphone I can control the itunes volume of different speakers by clicking on the airplay icon and using a slider. Not as cool as using the hard +/- buttons but still works.
Whats not working:
Controling volume on appleTV2 through the iphone remote app for video playbacks like netflix, and youtube.
Why I want this: RIght now I can control most of the multimedia right from my iphone including cranking the music up:) But when I switch over to video(Netlfix, Youtube) I have to get out another remote (stereo reciever) to control the volume. It seems we are so close to being able to control everything off the iphone, the only thing missing is volume control for video playback.
Is there a setting that can be changed or a solution I havent found?

Same problem with TV3. HDMI volume output is not adjustable, neither with the original Apple remote nor with any universal. Why ? Every simple settop-box is able to be volume adjusted. And a Mac Mini too ?!!!
I use a flatscreen TV. it has 3 HDMI inputs and one optical out for the audio going to an amp standing behind it. The sound of the TV is switched to go to the optical out.
HDMI 1 is connected to the satellite settop box with its own remote control ( channel +/-, volume +/- etc. ) it work s fine.
HDMI 2 is connected to the MacMini HDMI out with its own remote control ( channel/music +/-, volume +/- ) it works fine too.
HDMI 3 was connected to Apple TV3 with its own remote control ( channel/music +/- but no volume ). I sent the TV3 back to Apple.
What's going wrong in the mind of Apple ? Why is the HDMI volume output of the MacMini adjustable with the Apple remote, and the TV3 not ?
I want not to discuss, wether a 4th remote control is useful or not. I don't want it. I want to adjust the volume with the originl remote control of the specific unit I use, because I need it anyway. It worked since years, but not with Apple TV3.
How can we help Apple to open the volume +/- function on their own remote control ?

IPod Nano 4G Skips During Playback with Apple Lossless Songs

My iPod Nano 4th Generation has been consistently skipping a brief portion of music about every 5th Apple Lossless song during playback. I've been working unsuccessfully to resolve this issue with tech support and fixed the problem when I disabled the energy level setting in the playback menu. While this is a hit to battery life, the skipping no longer occurs. Hoping that this issue is permanently resolved in an upcoming software update.

I brought my ipod yesterday and had the exact same issue. it would skip certain songs frequently and was extremely frustrating. Im not sure if this is the case for all ipods (i have an ipod nano 16Gb 4th gen, with firmware 1.0.4), but i fixed my issue in a series of steps. Im not sure which exact part of my method did the job, but here it is:
1. plugged it into iTunes and clicked "restore" under the tab "summary". WARNING: This will delete everything, and restore factory settings. im not sure if this is necessary, but youll need to delete the songs which skip anyway.
2. pressed the eject button IN ITUNES (under "devices", and next to your ipod icon), ejecting the ipod. wait for the ipod to specify when it is ready for it to be unplugged. proceed to unplug said ipod.
3. Choose the language of your ipod, and go into playback settings and (settings/playback or something) and turn OFF "shake" and "energy saver"
4. Plug your ipod into your computer again and drag all the songs onto your ipod using itunes.
5. after it has finished copying, WAIT until the ipod no longer says "synching", and until it says "connected"
6. Press the eject button IN ITUNES (again, under devices, and next to your ipod icon)
7. Eject when the ipod says it is ok to do so.
As i said, im not sure which part of the method did it for me, but i think it might be the way in which i was ejecting it. Before i was ejecting the ipod on my desktop. I think it is important to eject it using itunes. Anyway this fixed my ipod. Im not sure if it will do the same to yours, but if its making you very angry (to say the least) like it made me, its worth a try i guess. I would appreciate it if people let me know if this works.

Inline video playback for Apple devices in responsive projects (Captivate 8)

Hello,
I know that Captivate itself does not support inline browser playback for videos on Apple devices, but I was wondering if there might be a way to edit the HTML of a responsive project to add inline playback tags (like the ones listed here). Or maybe some other solution that accomplishes the same goal?
The context is that I will be developing 45 minute course (heavily animated) that my organization wants to be mobile-optimized. I'm developing all animations in Flash and converting to mp4, and then inserting those into my Captivate project. There will be about 100 slides worth of videos, which would be unbelievably tedious for the user if they had to keep toggling back and forth between their browser and the native Apple video player. For the record, I've already experimented with converting these into HTML5 content and inserting them into Captivate as web objects, but that's no good since the <iframe> tag forces those objects to the top, regardless of my stack order in the timeline.
So any creative solutions?

That's unfortunately not really correct. I don't care about user navigation from slide to slide--I actually like the fact that the user has to use the next and back buttons and I would actually prefer that the next video didn't auto-play when the previous one finished.
Let me back up for a second. When you go to YouTube on your iPhone, you can't just push play on a video and watch it in the browser. The video loads into an iOS shell and you often have to exit out of that shell in order to get back toYouTube. In my course, I don't want the videos to play in that shell (i.e. a new window, which is what's happening now). I want it to play directly in the browser. This is indeed possible outside of Captivate (per the link I included in my initial question). I want to know how to add that functionality to a responsive project in Captivate.
Does that make more sense?

"Merlin" 1080p stream will not playback in Apple TV

This is an unusual problem with the new Apple TV 3rd Gen which replaced a Gen 2.
It is only evidenced in the last two episodes of "Merlin" downloaded from iTunes Store. We initially noted the problem on the final episode of the current season, the first we had tried with the new Apple TV. The setup is essentially the same as with the Gen 2, i.e. almost new Panasonic 55, almost new certified HDMI, directly HDMI to the set.
What happens is that the audio plays, but not the video. We have since tried to play the penultimate episode, i.e. ep. 12 and get the same problem. It will play fine at 1080p from either computer in the room (through the network to the Panasonic through Apple TV.
More perplexing is that the Gen 3 will playback without problem 1080p movies streamed from the iTunes Store. To date, the only difficulty we have had is with Merlin.
We've tried resetting, etc. We cannot get this problem except with Merlin.
Any suggestions.

Merlin season 4 has a problem in iTunes store. When my iTunes set up to get 1080p by default, it gets a 55Mb file sontaining, seems like, audio only. If set to 720p, it gets a 1.2Gb file. If I try to get the episode to iPad3, it gets the bogus 55Mb file that the iTunes store thinks is the 1080p version of the episode.
I has got to be a glitch in the iTunes store.
SD version (450Mb or so) downloads just fine.
I think the deal is, the 1080p version in the store is corrupted. iPad can't choose which one to get, so it will ne\ot even play the episode at all. A computer can get the 720p by preference, so it is possible to get it in some HD but not in 1080.
I bet the same thing happens to ATV: it tried to get the default HD size for the device, which is a 1080p, but the data are bogus, so it shows nothing. If you could select 720 it would play it.
Hopefully Apple fixes this soon. This was my first attempt at buying a show and I have to say, it took me a long time to figure out what is happening.

Jerky, stutterry, not very smooth playback on apple tv2

i have recently converted some mkv 720p files using handbrakes appletv2 setting and when i watch them on my 40" sony tv the playback is a little bit 'jerky' i.e.not very smooth. if i watch the same file on my iMac I'm sure they play perfect. anyone got any ideas? would apple tv3 play them better ? or could it be my hdmi lead?

Remove "bad" codes from Apple Configurator

Recently I was attempting to install an app onto several Supervised devices using Configurator. I ran out of codes and purchased more through the VPP system, uploaded my spreadsheet into Configurator and continued trying to install the app. Instead of redeeming the new codes however, it just hung, I left the computer running overnight in hopes that it would eventually communicate and be able to install the app. The next morning, I found things were at the same spot with Configurator attempting to redeem the code. I eventually Quit configurator to get the "multiple validation errors" message. After trying this a few dozen more times (this was during the ios7 rollover so I attributed some of the issues to that), still with no success, I re-downloaded the spreadsheet to find that codes were being redeemed, and they were appearing greyed out in Configurator, but none were installing on the iPad.
I contacted [email protected] and they refunded my additional code purchase and made all the codes I had uploaded invalid. Now I have re-purchased the additional codes I require and I have uploaded them into Configurator. Alas, the old codes are still displaying, some greyed out, and when I try to install the app, it is still hanging. When I look at the available codes in Configurator, the bad codes that are not already grey state "unable to redeem code in app store" but my iPad does not seem to be able to move on to the new "good" codes.
I want to delete the app out of configurator and try adding it back. I am not sure if doing this would wipe out the links I already have between the codes that have previously been redeemed with the iPads they are currently on. I have the original spreadsheet and the new spreadsheet with the additional "good" codes, but would hate to lose the 285 codes that are already working fine and associated with other iPads.

No. The only way is to explain your situation to Apple and request new codes.
A side note... with MDM there is no way to reuse app codes. With Apple Configurator you can unsupervise a device and get your code back on that station. But with MDM it doesn't store the code in a database like Apple Configurator does. So once the code is handed out via MDM is belongs to whatever Apple ID downloaded it.

Really Bad Playback Issue w/iTunes

I really hope there's someone who can help with this issue! Sorry for the long post but
I wanted to cover as many possible questions right away.
While working on photoshop files or switching between apps or windows, opening
finder windows, basically doing anything outside of itunes seems to cause itunes
to cut out briefly or completely stop OR the audio stops but the song keeps
playing. Other times a song will stop and then only a loud HISS comes from the
speakers.
I have unplugged the 3rd party speakers and played just through the small
speaker in the G5 and the issues remain.
I've done a fairly thorough search for this issue and have found a few postings
(http://tinyurl.com/yajdg6z) (<--windows version) about it but no answers offered except for one that
suggested:
"right click on the song and go to 'Convert ID3 Tags...'then from the drop down
menu pick one, mine works with v1.1
after that the song should start working again."
I converted my entire library to 1.0 and the problem remained. _I do not_ recommend anyone
do this as itunes will duplicate your entire library!
*This is a brand new (month or so) install of 10.5.8 on a 300GB drive w/tons of*
*space in a Dual 2.0 G5 w/8GB's or RAM. itunes 9.0.3 (15)*
This issue was there w/10.4.11 using the OEM boot drive and I'm still having
this issue even having done a new installation on a NEW, bigger freakin drive.
The itunes library resides on an external 500GB firewire drive with 39 GB of
space available, so no airtunes or network to contend with.
I've also deleted my entire song list twice. Once re-importing the original
files and finding the issue remained, then deleted again and imported the backup
of the songs from my backup drive in case the 1st drive the originals reside on
was having issues. I guess it isn't!
When working w/Photoshop, the maximum amount of RAM being used by all processes
is a little over 4GB. Since I have 8GB (that's the max amount of RAM this
machine can hold) AND a completely empty 160GB internal drive for Photoshop
scratch disk space, I should be well within tolerances, but I could be wrong for
unknown reasons. I have allotted CS3 it's maximum amount of RAM which is
3072MB.
I have MenuMeters in the toolbar which gives me a constant readout of processor
and RAM usage, so I'll see it if there is a spike or maxing out of the
processor at any given time. I usually never see that unless I am applying an
effect that requires that much, but the iTunes issue comes when just using a
very small healing brush and I'm cleaning up a scan.
BUT, and this is a big "but", the problem is not isolated to just when I'm using
CS3. CS3 might be running and doing nothing, and I'll be switching windows or
to a different app or just advancing to the next song in iTunes itself and bad
things will happen.
With iTunes being the only app running the problemwas minimized. I tried
opening a lot of finder windows with coverflow andscrolling and the problem
wasn't too bad, occurring ONLY when I did a title change of
a song in iTunes. As soon as Safari was opened and I had multiple windows open,
the problem was back with no CS3 running. Basically if I run any app with itunes,
itunes has problems.
I had left itunes running with some Safari windows open to some CNN pages and wasn't
even at the keyboard and heard itunes cutting in and out.
I do all the necessary utilities (DiskUtility, Disk Warrior, iDefrag, Applejack, and CleanMyMac)
to keep everything up and running so why is this going on? I have also uninstalled Perian just
+in case+ that might help. It didn't.
This is driving me nuts!

Yep, unfortunately.
I have 2 500GB FW drives that are clones of each other.
One drive I work from and the other is the backup.
I have deleted the library from itunes and loaded the +clone drives+ copies of the music instead, in case working on images while playing music from the same drive was causing the issue.
Also I switched FW ports the drives are plugged into; switching from the PCI FW card they were plugged into, to the built-in FW port on the G5.
Worst case I will just play music through the wired network on my G4 and plug in the good speakers into the headphone/speaker jack on the G4. I've tested this out using +itunes 6+ which is what is on my G4. I'll update itunes on the G4 eventually if no other suggestions come in. I may try downgrading to itunes 8.2 on the G5 unless I hear otherwise.
You're right this shouldn't happen but seems to be specific to this particular machine as a previous G5 that died on me had no problems. I bought this one used so I can't speak to it's previous history, but it demoed just fine w/final cut and HD movies that were being edited by the previous owner.
I've had this issue since getting this G5. It occurred using the boot drive from my original G5, the boot drive that came with this G5, and the present brand new 300GB boot drive that I'm gonna stay with.
Things that have come to mind as possible culprits have been bad memory and the application switcher if that's still used in Leopard.

Nothing to do with Apple .It is up to BMW to keep up with the comms technology ,they have access to all iOS 7 development as Developers and it is up to them to to provide iDrive updates to keep pace
