Bad quality pictures in dim light

When I'm in dim light situations, (Bar) my pictures are grainy and really dark. When I used several of my friends iPhones to take additional pics, I noticed 1) the image on the screen before taking the picture is brighter. 2) the picture is is better quaility, more vibrant. My comparison was against 2 other iPhone 4S'. Also, when using my flash, the pics have a blue tint. I always assumed that this is because of the use of an LED as the flash. Compared to both my friends iPhones, theirs is more normal looking.
Should I just take it into the Apple Store and let them deal with this?

Why my iphone 4S takes bad quality pictures in interiors? low light
You answered your own question.  It's the low light.
What is the solution to this issue?
Are you using the flash?
You might also want to try out an app called King Camera.  It allows a bit of control over exposure that might help.

May I ask, was the pictures taken on a iPad or a camera?
If iPad the front facing camera is about 0.3 or 0.4 megapixels and the back camera is about 0.7 megapixels
    Did I answer your question?
Or maybe  remove "Ken Burns" as an effect to rid of blur or pixellation.

  • Bad quality preview via HDMI

    Hello together!
After searching for days in the www and on this board I hope somebody here knows a solution for this problem:
Im looking for a quality solution to preview the program monitor as a full screen picture on my Panasonic HD-Ready TV. I got it running, but there is a really strange quality problem:
When I just use the TV as a second Windows display and I move the program monitor onto it (no full screen but at 100% display level) the preview looks nice but I can not see the complete picture, because 1280x720 plus the program monitor itself is too big for my screen When I change the display size of the program monitor to something lower than 100% the scaling looks very bad higher than 100% no problem with scaling.
    So this is my problem:
When I switch it in the playback settings to playback on extern monitor to view it full screen there is a problem. Diagonal lines get a bad looking aliasing. My idea was that CS3 is scaling something (and this does the program not as good as I tried the preview with trailversions of Edius5 or Vegas8c). Just at 100% CS3 preview looks nice (the same when I just watch the program monitor on the Notebook display).
My Nvidia Card is set to HDMI 720p output. The TV says it is a 720p signal what is coming form my HDMI cable, and last but not least my footage is also filmed in 720p60 (Sony Ex1) and I used the 720p60 EX1 setting in CS3.
So again, when I just watch these clips for example with the Sony clip browser on my TV (also form this Notebook via the same HDMI output) the diagonal lines start not to flicker and are displayed very sharp. So it cant be the graphic card, the TV or the footage at my knowledge.
So why does CS3 scale there something in the full screen preview although from input to output everything is in 720p? Furthermore why is the scale in such a bad quality (Edius does this perfect so maybe I have just a wrong setting somewhere in my CS3 settings). Is CS3 not using the graphic card for scaling?
    My system:
    Asus V1S Notebook
    NVidia GeForce 8600M GT 512MB
    Duo T7500
    2GB Ram
    Windows Vista
Hope somebody here is able to find a solution for this problem, because I dont want to buy an extra video board (like Axio) for it.
    Best wishes,
    Swen

But often with these cards, you can not work in the CS3 normal nativ settings for Ex1 footage.
At my knowldge when I would like to open a project which with a Blackmagic Card for example and I like to finish the editing on an other computer without that card you'll have a problem (because BM or other cards allway use their own presett window-right?). So you lose a lot of flexibilty by using a card or a third party codec like this. So it's not so future proof as just to work with the NLE Software itself.
I see this now with my old Premiere 6.5 Projects. I used a Canopus Raptor RT2 for this with the Canopus codec. That worked very very well, but now I can't use this project anylonger on a new editing CS3 station, because it doens't support these Canopus transitions and codecs. Also the only Windows Notebook based output solution is the MotuV4 box... not a very cost effectiv solution for a preview.
So again. There must be a sloution to get the problem with the diagonal lines fixed. Why does CS3 scale the preview when 720p footage should be displayed over a 720p output onto a 720p Monitor? No need for scaling? Or am I wrong with this?

  • Bad quality preview in Bridge versus photoshop preview

Okay here's my problem.  When I view my photos using Bridge CS4 I get a bad quality preview even when preview is set to "Always High Quality" The first photo you will see that there is a greenish yellowish tinge on the side of my daughters cheek.  However, when I open the same image in photoshop that tinge is gone! You can see this in the second image.  Is there a setting that I need to alter here in Bridge? And here's a weird thing....since that file is a raw cr2 file, when I open it up in camera raw, I see the exact same greenish tinge in camera raw as well.  Does anybody know what's going on here?

Gosh darnit!  It's happening again.  I'm getting that murky yellowy tinge in the shadows again in the preview panel in Bridge AND Photoshop!! I downloaded the CS5 trial and when I was previewing some .CR2 RAW and jpeg files in sRGB color space in Bridge CS5, I see that in the preview box, the image looks awful with that yellowy tinge in the shadows.  I open it up in Photoshop CS5 and zoom way into it, and sure enough, I see that yellowy nightmare.  But when I open it up in picture viewer or in internet explorer, the yellowy tinge is gone.  Man this is frustrating!  I know it can't be a monitor calibration issue cuz if that was the case, the image in picture viewer would indeed, also have the yellowy tinge, correct?  Any ideas?  When the problem mysteriously went away with CS4 when I originally posted this thread several months ago, I thought updating Bridge was the solution.  However, I don't believe that was the real answer.  Anybody got any ideas?  I was curious if it was an "Adobe" issue so I opened up one of the jpeg problem photos in AE CS5 and zoomed in.  Fortunately, the yellowy tinge does NOT show up in the preview panel.  PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Is LED flash used for taking pictures at low light?

I recently bought 4s iphone, currently when i take pics in the night or low light the image is not clear due to LED flash light. Does LED flash is used only for notification /alerts or is it mainly used for creating better pictures in low light?
    Thanks
    Ravi

or is it mainly used for creating better pictures in low light?
    That is correct.
    * Double check if there is a plastic film covering the camera and the flash.
** In my personal opinion, pictures using the flash in iPhone are of poor quality anyway.

  • Export to quicktime from final cut producing bad quality audio

    Hello
In exporting out quicktimes form the timeline in final cut I'm experiencing bad quality audio. Its almost like a fussing or noise in the background. I have tried to export the same quicktimes from a new sequence and only after a couple of attempts managed to get a quicktime with clear audio. I found the only way around this is to export out the audio as a separate aiff file which produces a clear audio file. This is not ideal as it creates more work when in a rush.
Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
    thanks in adavence

The sound is perfect in fcp.
I originally export from fcp using export quicktime movie, thats what causes the problem, which is why I had to resort to exporting the audio file as a separate file to the quicktime as an aiff which solves the problem. But it seem sa shame to have to export the picture and audio separately then use quicktime to marry the 2 together , then to re-export just so you cant have the files as one movie.
I just dont get what its doing.
Thanks for taking a look. I apprechiate it.

  • Bad quality of capturing from sony SR5e.

I have used iMovie for several months. It worked quite well at first. However, in these days, problems are always appeared. Firstly, it always got rather bad quality of clips after capturing from my SONY HDR-SR5E. It seems lost some frames; all of the objects in it appears jumping when they are moving. Secondly, when I restarted the iMovie and tried to capture again, iMovie just quit unexpectedly. I have also tried using Final Cut Express to capture in my machine, it works fine and get a smooth clip comparing with iMovie.

Already try this. This is not the problem ...
It's something on the rendering of the colors. You can see that on those 2 screenshots on the image referenced in the post on my blog :

  • Does anyone experienced bad quality when burning a DVD?

Does anyone experienced bad quality when burning a DVD?
Using OS 10.6.8 and Magiv Video in iDVD, I am having a hard time creating a decent DVD. The videos per se are fine, but the intro menu and menu text and images are extremely poor quality and hard to read. What is going on?

Hi my notes on this - might be of help
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD or other resolutiona as result will suffer) or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • Dim Lights Option: second monitor

    Hi,
I guess I am not alone when I say working on two monitors is often setup with a smaller and a bigger monitor in conjunction. In my case, it is a 24 Eizo and 30 NEC Spectraview, the latter is used to work on the picture, and the former holds the main window with menus.
When I dim Lights, the picture on the smaller monitor remains, not on the 30 inch, and this is what I wish for as an option, to be able to choose where the pciture remains, on monitor 1 or 2 or even both.
    Thanks
    Georg

Under the view menu there are a menu item called secondary viewer. There you can select the behavior of you second monitor.

I really need this issue resolved it is driving me insane!!! How can the images appear perfectly fine on my laptop then when transferring over to a USB stick they just  corrupt!?

    Check out this site:

That will show you how to format a USB stick for use on both PC and Mac.
If the problem continues take it to an Apple store and have them check it out.

    From:

"exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table) is a Microsoft file system optimized for flash drives.[3] It is proprietary and patented."
That first site explains it at length.

  • ACNS 5.5 / Troubleshooting bad quality VIDEO (MMS-over-http)

    Hello community,
For an unexplanable reason I have to deal with an ACNS problem which is not my domain at all ! ACNS 5.5.15 is on a WAE-512-K9 working with CDM.
Please can someone advice me on how to start the basic troubleshooting steps on the following issue :
    ============================
    - Users in Sydney are complaining of bad quality when they watch a video from an Intranet server in Frankfurt.
Video flow has bad quality (buffering ..) and/or stops before the end of the video.
    - Users browsers are configured to use the WAE as local proxy on ports 3129 (.pac file). Requested Video on the intranet is in the Windows Media format and flows are MMS-over-http.
    - No multicast distribution is used, neither content pre-positioning.
    ============================
We did a wireshark trace on the user PC watching a video which ends up unexpectidely with error code 500 => We follow the TCP stream, Time/Sequence graph is linear until ACNS sent [PSH,ACK] tcp flags to the user PC. Then PC answers with [FIN, ACK] etc...and the stream ends.
I have checked the show-tech (i have attached some commands from the sh tech)  especially TCP statistics but I do not if the values are normal or not.
I am thinkink to open a TAC case but before contacting Cisco I prefer to try some basic tests if they can help.
Any recommendation on how to start a troubleshoot or any advice would be gretly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Defcom,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried changing and resetting the bandwidth limits at both ends last week at both ends but no joy!
I am going to try the solution on the Gerry's link above later but have to wait for my brother to be free as he has an airport as well(had a baby yesterday (hence why we are setting this up)).

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

  • Screen is slightly blurry / has bad quality

I bought new Samsung 24" LCD monitor S24C300 and new video card Nvidia GT 630. Monitor is connected with DVI cable.
Problem is that when I'm using native resolution 1920 x 1080, the screen is really small and I have to use the DPI setting thing to make screen bigger, but, when I apply the DPI settings, some programs come annoying blurry.
At the resolution 1280 x 720 the screen is good size, but the text has slightly bad quality and is little blurry, so what to do?
I have adjusted the monitors sharpness settings and I also have ClearType on, but that doesn't help.
Could somebody help me with this issue? Thanks in advance!

Please first install the latest drivers for video and moniotr.
Some times a blurry screen can be caused by a poor cable, check with anothe if possible.
You can also try other port to test this issue, like HDMI.

What makes you so sure it isn't software?
The camera can be focused by take the point of focus on the touch screen.
If it is new as you said, it should be under warranty. Make a Genius Bar appointment or contact Apple with a repair request.
