Bad request message trying to use website for my home business

I have my own business within Stella & Dot
www.stelladot.com Just today, I cannot access one tab on the home page menu that has to do with my personal financial activity and that of my team. all other tabs on the site can be accessed. I remember updating Firefox recently. This is extremely annoying!

It could be useful to know whether it last worked in Firefox 3.6 or Firefox 4...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
Save your work first!
1. Clear Firefox's Cache
Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage: "Clear Now"
2. Delete your stelladot.com cookies
From a page you can access on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then you can remove all cookies for sites ending with stelladot.com and reload. You'll probably have to log in again.
Any luck?

  • Getting a Bad Request Error upn logging into website - Safari goes right in

Trying to access South Carolina Library information for students at an educational institution. When we get to the login page for the place we need to go, Firefox comes back with a 400 Bad Request Error. If the students use Safari, it goes right through. I prefer them to use one browser and would prefer Firefox. Any thoughts? Narrowing it down, it has something to do with networking and Firefox. I can log on as a local admin on the MAC and Firefox will go right through, but if the students log into to the MAC using Open Directory, I get the Bad Request message.

  • Bad Request message when I try to go to websites.

I have a Power Mac G4 533Mhz running on 9.1.1 It looks like I have 1.5 G with a backside of 1MB. I bought this computer in 1999 with high hopes for doing fun things but eneded up using it mostly for word processing for my office work! I am not ready to give up on this computer so I am now going to upgrade to Tiger. I already upgraded to max. memory. But now I am having trouble with the internet. I have AOL and Comcast. My problem is getting a Bad Request message when I try to get on the web through Comcast. Any ideas as to where to start to figure out this problem? I am so glad I found this discussion forum. I know I will be needing lots of advice in trying to fix up this machine.
Power Mac G4   Mac OS 9.0.x   533 MHz

    Welcome To Discussions petuniapetals!
Also, make sure that you use a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD.
You will also need a newer version of AOL for Tiger.
You can download this new copy of AOL For Mac OS X, and save to Desktop.
Or download a copy of the AOL® Client from Macintosh Downloads - AOL Downloads, and save to Desktop.
    Good Luck!

  • I get a bad request message when trying to open my mail in Yahoo.

I keep getting a "bad request" message when trying to open my mail in Yahoo.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.
    * "Clear the Cache": Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file <i>cookies.sqlite</i> that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> and <b>cookies.txt</b>, if they exist, in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Trying to use hangouts for sms on verizon droid maxx but "can't compose"

I'm trying to use hangouts for SMS on my Verizon Droid Maxx but the message "Can't compose. No default SMS app." displays when I try to compose (+") a new message, even though the top of the screen says that "Hangouts is your SMS app".  What do I need to do?

        Good Afternoon, dgcaskey,
I love my Hangouts application. Let's see if we can get this up and running for you. Have you been able to use this application before? Or did you just installed this app onto your phone? Have you been able to delete the application off the phone and redownload it? When you receive a text message does it come in through the Hangouts app or the normal stocked application that is on the phone? Please keep us posted.

  • Repeatedly getting "Bad Request" when trying to log into paypal...

Since the last FF update occasionally when I go to log into my Paypal account instead of reaching the log in page I get a "Bad Request" message.
If I clear my cache and cookies and then go back to the log in page everything works. But then any current sessions I was in (gmail, forums etc.) are logged out and I have to re-log in to them, very annoying.
Please tell me this problem is being addressed? When I get this "Bad Request" message I can go to safari or opera and everything is working fine, so I am fairly sure the problem here is in Firefox, not with Paypal.

Yesss.s... as you might have noted in my original question:
"If I clear my cache and cookies and then go back to the log in page everything works."
The problem is... that's only a temporary solution, the problem keeps coming back.
However I have not tried the offline storage cache clear, will try now hopefully that permanently fixes the issue.

  • How much do I charge to design a co-worker's website for a starter business?

I'm not a web-designer - I'm an architect (or will be). But I got into graphic design a little, and just recently web-design. To be honest, it all seems to be coming naturally, and I just finished recreating the company-site of the place I work, and my own portfolio-site...
Now - a coworker wants a website for a small business he's starting up. I want to help him, but don't have the time to volunteer my services. And neither of us wants to throw out a price offer, because we don't want to offend one another..
So what's reasonable? We're both fresh out of school with a mountain of student loans each - I need money, and he has little to spend.
    1) do I charge hourly or as a flat-price?
    2) how much is reasonable for: a simple 5-page (or so) design, with a flash intro, custom-animated flash buttons (as links), a slideshow, built-in contact page, and some photoshop work? Keep in mind - I'm still kind of new to all this, so it'll take me some time..
    Anyways, thanks for any advice!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
ALWAYS charge by the hour, but give a reasonable estimate.
Interesting how different business models operate. I would say NEVER charge by the hour to quote for a project. No client wants that pricing upfront. It's OK for extras but as an initial quote it's the fastest way not to win work.
Always get a full, accurate scope of work and give a per project price.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
And as for doing jobs for friends, family or colleges, that's called networking, which is the primary way that independent contractors get business.
No-one said networking is bad. It's great, if you know what you're doing, what your time is worth, what you're capable of delivering, what the project entails and manage your clients well.
Working as a favour for friends and colleagues on a shoestring budget with no clear scope of work and a limited skillset is bad. That's what loses you friends.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
So to those of you who have been advising the poster not to take work from someone they know, what kind of slash-and-burn business tactics are you practicing?
Not sure how you arrive at such a ridiculous conclusion from this thread but see comments above.
    To reiterate:
Networking is great - if you know what you're doing, what your time is worth, what the project entails and manage your clients well.
Working as a favour for friends and colleagues on a shoestring budget with no clear scope of work and a limited skillset is bad. That's what loses you friends.

After the Apple logo appears, what happens then? Can you hear any sounds or if you tap on the screen, does it seem like apps can open or are you just seeing a black screen? You might have a hardware problem, but you can try restoring the software and see what happens.

  • Ipod 4 wiped out? I plugged it in to my work computer (used strictly for charging - home computer is where my files are updated) - but today it erased my ipod! Everything is gone

I plugged it in to my work computer (used strictly for charging - home computer is where my files are updated) - but today it erased my ipod! Everything is gone! It is asking me set-up questions (Language, country) and asking me to plug it in & go to ITUNES - problem is, my itunes icon is not working? It usually loads as soon as I plug the Ipod in but not today? I can take it home & plug it in & hopefully my files will come back but why is it doing this? (I've had it more than a year & it's never done this?)

It sounds like a setting change on the computer and iTunes synced the iPod. Yo can only sync with one iTunes library, if yo switch the iPod gets erased and its contents replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the computer.
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and make sure that the box that says "Prevent iPods.. syncing automatically" is checked.

  • I have a macbook air/ipad/phone, etc.  I use my macbook for my home business and bought a TC.  My husband does not want it to be our default wifi.  Does it have to be?

I have a macbook air/ipad/phone, etc.  I use my macbook for my home business and bought a TC to do backups.  My husband does not want it to be our default wifi/modem as he is exclusively a PC user.  Does it have to be?  I thought it did everything wirelessly??  I don't want to start disconnecting our modem/router etc as we are all set up with wireless printing and backups for that computer.  If I have to muck around with it I am thinking of not bothering??

The TC will connect to your existing modem/router using an Ethernet cable. You will not have to use the wireless on the TC....you can even turn it off if you wish.
Backups to the TC will occur over your existing wireless.
Connect from a LAN <-> port on the modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the TC. Locate the TC anywhere that the Ethernet cable will reach. You can run the cable up to 300 feet with no loss.
Things will not automatically configure themselves. You will have to do some mucking around....no more than you would if you were installing the TC anywhere else.
Configure the TC to "create a wireless network". Once it is setup, you can ignore the TC wireless, or turn it off.

  • OS X Server & creating a website for a small business.

I am a small business owner with limited computer skills. I would like to know if downloading the OS X Server App from the App Store will enable me to host my own website using iWeb to create it? Building the website seems professional and easy enough using iWeb but I lack the knowledge to publish it having never done it before. My business has a website already which is hosted through the website designer but I like the flexibility of updating it myself. How tricky is it to do? Are there any guides, tips, suggestions or pitfalls I should be aware of?

This is centrally a question of where you want to spend your time.
Are you interested in learning about DNS and IP and networking and troubleshooting and security and maybe also DMZs and VPNs?   About keeping the riffraff off your server?   Basically, do you want to be IT here?  If you do, then OS X Server does quite well, and it's not particularly difficult to deal with — this difficulty factor as servers go, that is.  Servers are inherently more involved and more complex than clients.
If you'd rather not be IT here, then either using a tool like Sandvox or hosting your site via a content management system would be preferable; there are shared hosting services around which offer WordPress or Drupal or other content-management system hosting — I'd tend to go with a CMS and not iWeb, but there are various hosting services where you can upload your website.  They will typically deal with web server and the mail server and DNS and backups and the rest for you.  These hosted services are inexpensive, too.  I presently use MacHighway for some hosting (disclaimer: no financial connections, except as a customer).
If you want to split the difference here between running your own and outsourcing this, then you might want to enlist some help to get things set up and running, and to help you learn where the problem areas are, and that you can call when something goes sideways.  Or you can work with your web designer to migrate into a content management system (if that's not what you're using already), and where the web designer can deal with various parts of the presentation and the content and related, and you can also access and update content via the web interface.   If you want to experiment with a CMS, WordPress and Drupal offer hosting (via WordPress.Com and Drupal.Com), as do other entities.
Linc Davis is quite correct, too: the Internet can be unforgiving of mistakes with servers.  This can be why you might want to invest in a good firewall with a DMZ and a dedicated server, for instance.  Should the riffraff breach the web server, they're hopefully still contained by the DMZ and thus don't have the run of your business network.

  • New IPOD - error message trying to use with itunes

    Hi
Please can someone help. I just bought an IPod with Video but I cant even get any of the songs in my itunes library synched onto it. When I click on autosync I get the following error message
The IPOD "IPOD" cannot be used because it requires itunes version 7 or later.
It then tells me to go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version or itunes or install it from the CD that came with my ipod.
I have been back to the website and have tried reinstalling Itunes 7.02 but I still get the error message. When I right click on the autosynch button it tells me Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close...My Ipod was bought brand new via Amazon and didnt come with any disk....
I've followed the scant instructions and Im pretty computer literate so I dont know whats going on here but I dont seem to be able to get past this basic stage . Meanwhile my ipod is stuck on Do not Disconnect. What do I do. ? I seem to have itunes all set up and my WMA existing files converted and visible in my library. I even bought a new song to see if I could sync that but I get the same error message.. Please help....

When you plug in the iPod does it show up in iTunes before you get the message about needing iTunes7? Or do you get that message after plugging it in before it shows up in iTunes?
