Bad screen and wiped HD on G4/867 TiBook

I got a TiBook 867 from someone and the LCD screen is black. She hooked it up via the FireWire to another Mac and wiped the HD through Target Disk Mode. I would like to reinstall OS X 10.4 on it (I have that version on DVD) but cannot get it to display through the external monitor I set up.
It chimes and goes through the proper power up procedure, but no pic on the screen or external monitor. Any ideas?

Ideas about the display, you mean? Shine a bright light on it while the machine is operating. Is the display image there, just not backlit? If so, and it doesn't brighten up when you adjust the brightness (press the F2 key), the display inverter board is bad and needs to be replaced.
If there's really no display image at all, a) the video cable may be disconnected from the logic board or partly or completely severed; b) the LCD may be bad; c) the GPU on the logic board may be bad; or d) there may be some other major logic board failure. To eliminate one or more of these possibilities, connect an external monitor. If only the desktop background appears on it, press the F7 key to put the monitor in Display Mirroring mode. If that produces a normal or nearly-normal display image with Dock and menu bar, your GPU and logic board are OK and the problem lies in the video cable or its conections (more likely) or the LCD panel (less likely). If the external monitor remains black or blankly blue, gray, etc., your GPU or some other logic board component is gone, and the Tibook is dead for all practical purposes. It will cost more to repair than it will be worth after it's repaired.

It's a 15" 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MBP running on Leopard 10.5.8, bought spring 2008.
About a couple of weeks ago, my screen started randomly switching to a strange blue / purple tint along with a bad resolution (can't really read text on screen) and flashing horizontal lines in the background. It started worrying me given I'm working with it all the time and am hoping for this machine to hold on for a few more months until I can buy a new one.
It would happen randomly for a few minutes at a time and then revert back to normal screen.
I found a lot of references to a similar problem in a few threads such as this one:

My screen has gone strange again now and isn't reverting back to normal so far even after I tried restarting it. It was normal for 2 min only ans then back to bluish. I tried all the display fixes indicated in the threads but none of them work and I'm not exactly sure my issue is the same given I can still see the tint and horizontal lines in particular if the screen saver goes on, and the resolution on screenshots I've seen of other people having blue tint screen issues seems to be normal (as in text is legible).
Any ideas on how to fix it? Do you think it might be more of a software or hardware problem..? Would it help if I try upgrading my Mac OS?

Thanks a lot for the reply, I was worried would say that outright. Screen just only reverted back to normal after a couple of hours. As you said probably best to bring it in for diagnosis, I'll try to do that asap though of course I'm nowhere neaar any AASP at the moment.

Added custom screen in PO using BADI ME_GUI_PO_CUST and ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST

Have you synced this phone, with iTunes, while the passcode was enabled? If so, plug it in, iTunes running, & hit the Restore button on the Summary Pane. This will also erase the phone.
However, if you have not synced, while the passcode was enabled, you will not be able to do this without first enereting the passcode. If that's the case, try recovery mode:

but I suspect your going to first have to create a data recovery drive
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
to get your data off the machine,
then do a #20 to eliminate the bad sectors as that's why your getting the "pinwheel" it's getting a delay reading from the drive, right when your trying to log in too, what a bad spot for it to happen.

I do some VJ-type work, involving playback of QuickTime files from the computer to projections, and I get good results using ProRes 422. That's convenient, because ProRes 422 is such a great editing codec, too.
Traditionally, VJs use PhotoJPEG codec, which also works well, but it's a bad editing codec. So you would have to export an edited master, then convert.
If you want it to look as good as possible, definitely schedule some time to test the footage on the wall. You may want to change the color correction of your footage to match the projectors. And if you feed the video wall some flat gray, you can see if any of the projectors need to be adjusted.
I'm not sure what application you're using for playback, but QuickTime Player 7 works well. It has an option to play fullscreen on an external monitor (View > Present Movie…).

Bad screen? I cant tell

about 4 days ago I rushed to my semi local computer store to find that they finally had touches in stock. But unfortunately it is a 9c37 one...however i got it home, 0 dead pixels, and I cant even really tell if it has negative blacks or not. I tried the lagom site but i just dont know, is there any other way to test if my screen is bad. And it came with 1.1.1 preloaded so could it be refurbished or something?

unlike some other electronics manufacturers, apple actually sells refurbished ipods as being refurbished- not new. anyways, about the first question, if it doesnt bother you, is there a problem? my first one i noticed, so it was an issue. if you cant see it, no problem. thats the way i see it atleast if you checked all the screens on that site. check the one with the grey squares over the white background though. thats the one that should tell you whats goin on.

Black screen and no sound with iTunes rentals.

I was going to chalk this up to just a corrupt download, but it's happening too much for mere coincidence now. I rented Captain America: The First Avenger in HD on my Windows 7 machine, only to find that when I tried to play it, I got nothing more than a black screen with no sound. I chalked it up to bad luck and went back to my day, only a few days later, I tried again, only to find the exact same problem had occurred with the exact same movie. I called Apple Support and told them of the problem, and while they refunded my purchases (and gave me 3 free movie rentals), they proposed no solution.
So I tried renting Iron Man 3 today, and the same thing happened. This doesn't occur with any other movies that I own trying to play in iTunes, just with rentals. I've already tried a reinstall, which did nothing, and I'm out of ideas.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Yeah! Problem solved: It's a QT issue.
Cause: Mac Update Software downloaded a faulty QT.
Solution: Download QT from Apple's QT site.
