Bad serial connection?

We have a 3510 array here that we are configuring via the serial port at the back of the system.
The 3510 was a dual raid base and it worked fine. Now it is going to be used as a single raid with a JBOD card. The issue is when we fire it up and have a look through the serial connection instead of getting the nice little option screen to configure it we get a screen of unreadable digits and letters.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Could it be a firmware difference between the Raid board and the JBOD board?
ANy help would be appreciated
Cheers

It sounds like a mis-match in baud rate. Try adjusting the speed setting of your terminal window.

  • PC Suite - no USB and Serial Connection Type avail...

I have been trying to solve this problem for days now. I have Windows XP and Nokia 5310. After I installed Nokia PC Suite, there is no USB or Serial connection type in the Connection Manager; it only has Blue Tooth and Infrared conection available. I have install and uninstalled PC suite and used PC Suite Cleaner to clean the installation. I also went into the add and remove program in the control panel and click on "change" to fix the Nokia Connection Manager and Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. It still didn't work. The thing is that the first time when installed PC Suite on my laptop, it did have USB connection option. Later after uninstalled PC Suite and reinstalled it, it start to have this problem. I am extremly frustrated. Can anyone help please?

Thanks for your reply. I have solved the problem by following your instruction below:
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Software, there you need to uninstall all Nokia software (Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Cable driver, PC Connectivity Solution ...)
Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner
    Reboot your computer
Download and install PC Suite here.
Connect your phone via USB cable (if possible use a different USB jack) and follow the instructions on the screen.
Maybe when I uninstalled Chinese version of PC suite, the order in which it was uninstalled was not the one you suggested above. So,I followed your instruction and uninstall order to uninstall PC Suite again. I also uninstalled all the antivirus, spyware, and firewall before I reinstall the PC Suite. It worked; then, I reinstalled all the other security software again after I had reinstalled the PC Suite. Although it worked, I still didn't know what exactly cause the problem the first place, PC Suite version, Security protection software, or the order which it was uninstalled? All it matters is it's working.

  • Using usb as serial connecting to cisco router not working

any ideas how can I use USB as serial connection to router?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
GREAT FIRST POST!! Very clear and specific. You don't know how rare that is
Is the laptop in a docking bay?
Content "encryption" meaning Content protection is turned off, right?
Are you able to backup and sync with the Desktop software?
Do you have the correct folders on the card?
Blackberry, music, ringtones, pictures, videos, voice notes?
    (blackberry has to be first).
Last one, how did you format the card?
    Thanks

  • Proper serial connections for Sun Fire v250

I recently purchased a (gently) used Sun Fire v250 for use as a workstation. The machine had a graphics card installed by a previous owner, but I accidentally reset the factory defaults on the SCC (I was having a boot problem, and apparently a brain problem).
My question is, how do I connect over serial to make the default boot up options 'screen' instead of 'ttya'? I know from the oracle docs that I need a specific type of serial cable, but I'm unsure where exactly I can go about finding this. Also, once I get the cable what software (for *NIX or windows) can I use to reset the SCC?
    Thanks,

Dychron, Inc.Search for a cisco console cable .... this is a typically a 9 pin to RJ 45 ... usually less than say $10 on at least well known auction site.
If you laptop/desktop does not have a serial get a usb to serial converter as well.
If you have a linux desk OS then it is possible to connect to a serial connection ... from solaris you would use tip .... from linux typically use 'cu' (built it) ... if I remember correctly.
Or use recent versions of PuTTY from windows. ... which can also be configured for serial.

  • ERROR - BAD DUPLEX CONNECTION - HP 5000N

After switching our HP5000N laserject printer off and then back on, we are now getting the error "BAD DUPLX CONNECTION"
The problem is that we do not have a duplex unit. Never have had, never will have.
Therefore, clearly the printer is picking up a problem incorrectly.
Does any clever guru type person out there know what I can do to fix this situation?
Any further information you feel i may need to provide, please don't hesitate to ask.
    Thanks in advance.

How did you replave the duplex belt? How to deassemble the backside of a officejet and click the new belt on? I can't see nor do it y self

  • Windows 8 using Putty with a serial connection

I am trying to connect to the network console ports using the serial functionality in Putty. I have configured Putty to use the COM1 port when using the serial connection. But each time I try using this serial connection, I receive an error saying "unable
to open connection to COM1...Unable to open serial port."
It worked just fine when using Putty and the serial port over the COM1 in Windows 7, but I no longer have that functionality in Windows 8. Is there a setting that needs to be changed or is Windows 8 not capable of using this feature now?

how do I find out which program is using the port and how do I disconnect it?
I don't know but I just found something that might help using  WMIC.
    portconnector
    Data presented corresponds to this
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394358%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
    Unfortunately it appears that the Status field is not being used correctly.  Also, I don't know how accurate this will be because it is showing me I have a PS2Mouse on my Surface!   ; }
Hmm... more usefully I think in the sidebar I noticed  Win32_SerialPort which led me to
    Path CIM_SerialController
(e.g. in WMIC) which is showing me more believable information about some COM ports that are being implemented using Bluetooth.
Thanks for making me find this!   ; )
So, for example, presumably you may be able to get some information about your  COM2  by entering
    wmic.exe  Path  CIM_SerialController  where (DeviceID="COM2")  Get  /Format:list
Here's one where I don't even need a where clause.  (I did a  Get-WMIObject -List *serial*  to find this.)
    wmic.exe Path Win32_POTSModemToSerialPort Get /format:list
As for getting a Reset done it appears that this may not be implemented by WMI.

  • Cellphones, bluetooth and serial connections

I have used a GPRS-connection with my Powerbook connected to my cellphone via bluetooth for a couple of years now. However, I have one problem with this setup - I have several cellphones (A, B, C) and subscriptions (1, 2, 3) and I can only connect with the most recently paired phone. In other words, if I first pair A with my computer and try to connect using 1 it works fine. I then pair B and try to connect through 1 (I have moved the SIM-card for 1 from A to B) it still works fine but when I now try to connect using A, the connection, and this is no surprise, fails. The reason it is no surprise is because the computer still tries to connect using B.
I don't know why this happens, but there seems to be some limitation in Mac OS X/the Bluetooth setup process which only allows it to use the most recently paired phone.
In other words, in the situation described above, the only way to be able to connect using A again is to "unpair" both A and B and the "re-pair" A.
Very annoying. However, after digging around a bit in the Bluetooth prefs I found: Devices tab -> select a phone in the device list -> Edit Serial Ports… where you can add serial ports (two different types of serial ports: "Dial-up networking" as well as "Serial port") for your devices and then make them visible in the Network pref pane. I guess this means that it is possible to add a serial port that belongs to a specific BT-device and then create a network location that uses this port/device and suddenly my problem would have disappeared.
The problem is that this window is unsupported. Yes, I have called Apple Assistance and they specifically says that this window is not supported by them, not even if I paid a technician or engineer at Apple (I support more than 20 users at my company that needs this functionality, hence my eagerness to pay for support). They actually laughed at me when I said I was prepared to pay to have this issue escalated.
Back to my question: I have tried to add both types of ports in different combinations but when I try to connect it still fails. In Mac OS X I get the following error message:
The modem has unexpectedly hungup. Please verify your settings and try again.
and a verbose internet connection log looks like this:

Any ideas how to get this to work?

I wonder if just using Network>Configure>Show>Network Port Configurations, then selecting the existing Bluetooth/Serial connection and duplicating it as many times as needed, the editing them wouldn't help... then you could just have a location for eack Phone.

When i press restore it says the network connection has timed out. I'm sure everything is connected also. i have no idea what to do to fix it and i cant sync my songs back on till i do! my iPod is useless at the moment.

  • Can't HotSync Centro ("Serial connection failed to initialize")

Every time I start my laptop (Sony VAIO, running Vista) I get the following error message: "Serial connection failed to initialize (The selected port, COM4, is not available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes available.)." I haven't been able to HotSync my Centro for some time now, as the port apparently never does "become available".... Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance!

How are you connecting to the computer?
What do you have the HotSync Manager set for?  A serial connection?  ("Local")?
It should be set to "Local USB".

  • NAC 3310- cannot connect to with serial connection

I have (2) 3310 NAC appliances that someone else set up and configured. I need to access via a serial connection to my laptop to upgrade the software. I cannot connect via Hyperterm. I have 4 other NAC appliances that I can connect to fine via direct laptop serial connection. My hyperterm settings are correct. Log files do not show anything that could be causing this (per TAC). I can access via ssh over the network, and through the web gui.

Short description is, I serial connected to the CAS's to do
a software upgrade, and could not get a connection to either of them. Through troubleshooting it seemed there were other issues going on with the Active CAS. Once I rebuilt (re-installed software) and reconfigured the HA pair, I was able to serial connect to both and then proceed with the upgrade.

  • Reading/Writing character commands to serial connection

Hey! I'm currently working on a project where part of it is to write a labview program to read and write commands through a serial connection to our PIC24F16KA304 board.
I basically have no knowledge on labview, I've been messing around on it for a few weeks trying to get myself familiar with it but I'm not having much luck.
Essentially I'm programming a train simulation control box. The PIC board will have a sensor that is connected to a train track that sends the character 'A' (for arrived) when a train stops at the station to lab view. I then want to be able to tell Labview to turn a LED on relevant to the station and then respond with the character 'M' for move. I need to repeat this situation for 6 stations
I also need to be able to 'R' for reversing the simulation, 'J' for jump (miss a station) and 'E' for end
If anyone with a bit more experience and knowledge then me can help I would be eternally grateful!

A state machine would be a good starting point for this project (and your understanding of LabVIEW).
You can always wire constants to VI inputs on the block diagram instead of having controls on the front panel that you have to type into. Just right click on the VI >> create >> constant.
The LabVIEW basics will help you out with all of these simple problems.

My thoughts exactly. Adding to what Chrissy posted...
Your question reads like "How do I unlock the door to my car and win the Daytona 500?" The first part is simple (use the constants like Chrissy said) but the second part is much more invloved.
plese take the advise posted above and go thorugh the tutorials and learn to use state machines. AS yo udo this other questions will come up and you should feel free to start a new thread on ech question. Stick with it, play nice and we'll get you to the finish line.
