"bad server response" issue

Hello,
This PC guy recently switched to a mac and I'm loving it so far.
I was using MS MOney and upon the advice of many I am experimenting with moneydance. When I tried to download my qif file from my bank I am receiving the "bad server response" error. I tried downloading the same file on my pc and it works fine.
I've done some searches on the boards and it sounds like this my be a safari related issue. What I haven't found is the way around it.
Any advice about how to clear this up so I may downloaded the needed files?
Thanks.

You're welcome.
Unfortunately, we still live in a Windows-centric world where some cites are developed with IE for Windows in mind without considering other browsers, especially on the Mac platform.
For that reason I think it's a good idea on the Mac platform to have an alternate browser. While I find Safari quite good for most sites, there are instances where a site's coding does not adhere to the same WebKit Standards used by Safari.
Here's the other Mac Browsers I have tried and found useful (Firefox is my favorite):
Camino,
Mozilla,
Opera,
Shiira
Haven't tried:
OmniWeb (shareware).
I excluded Netscape because I don't like it - never did.
Another suggestion is to contact the financial site inquiring about Safari compatibility.
Regarding the PDF, it may be how the site is coded. I rarely have problems viewing/downloading PDF's via Safari.

  • Bad server response

    I have Safari 1.3. I used to never have any problems with Safari. Then, i started having sites that i can't open. I get an error message that says "Safari can't open this page. Bad server response." At first it was just an occasional site. Now, i encounter them fairly often. For example I can't use wikipedia, I can't use Photobucket. I can't open purevolume.com. The pages open fine in Netscape.
    Safari doesn't have this problem on my iBook--just the Powerbook.
    Does anyone know what is causing this? It started before I updated to OX 10.3.9. Is there any way of fixing this?
    thanks

    thanks for the suggestion. However, this has been going on for months. I clear the cache several times a day because i was a victim of identity theft where someone got information from my computer somehow, i don't know how, but at the time i didn't have a firewall or ecryption or anything. Now i have all that stuff but since then, i empty the cache frequently as a security measure.
    I also manually threw away the safari cache and icons. apparently clearing the cache doesn't get rid of those. I threw away my safari prefs. i reinstalled 10.3.9 and java, repaired permissions repeatedly.
    I don't have a clue what's wrong, what it is about these particular pages that safari can't open on this computer. For a long time, it was just one or two sites where it happened. Now, it's happening much more, since i installed 10.3.9. I don't know if there's any relationship to that. I also installed 10.3.9 on the iBook and Safari doesn't have this issue on the iBook.
    I wonder what these pages have in common.
    I have Safari Enhancer on the powerbook and not on the iBook. I wonder if it could cause this problem.

  • Safari bug--bad server response

    I tried posting this a few weeks ago and got zero replies. I searched the boards for previous threads. there are some. And sadly, no one seems to have a solution. but i am trying again just in case someone has discovered something.
    On many webpages i get '“safari can't open the page...bad server response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011" For example, wikipedia and photobucket, lord of the cows forums, purevolume, versiontracker, etc
    I don't get this with Firefox or Netscape.
    I don't get this error on my iBook that has the same basic set up as my powerbook. Same internet connection (AEBS through a wired linksys, cable modem). It only affects the powerbook. i don't use the ibook nearly as much (hardly ever) so maybe it would develop the problem if i used it a lot.
    I do get the problem both in my regular user account and my test user account on the powerbook.
    I called Apple and they trouble shot it with me. Nothing worked so then she said to reinstall my system from the DVD, so i did.
    After the reinstall, the problem was gone.
    Several days later the problem came back.
    what might be causing it?? what might solve it? There must be some conflict with something on my powerbook, yes? since it doesn't do it on the iBook? It never did it on the powerbook until several months ago. It's a new error. It must be related to some software update i did along the way. I've noticed people who have Tiger get this problem too so i don't imagine that would solve it.
    A couple of people said that using Safari Debugger and changing the User Agent fixed the problem for them. I tried that and still get the same 'bad server response.' The only thing that has helped was to reinstall the system. but the fix only lasted a few days.
    someone suggested removing a cookies file. Isn't that a user specific file? I have the same problem in my test user too. I did try removing the cookies files but it didn't work. i get this problem with sites i've never been to before.
    I had Safari 1.2 when the problem first started. Now i have 1.3.1.

    Simple ways to free space
    You can employ any of the following tips to increase the free space available on your Mac OS X startup disk without altering your hardware.
    Empty the Trash
    As obvious as it may sound, some folks regularly Trash files but neglect to periodically empty the Trash. In Finder, select Finder > Empty Trash or, under Mac OS X 10.3 or later, you can also select Finder > Secure Empty Trash.
    Do not use the Trash as a "temporary" storage area. Only put an object in the Trash if you are sure it is no longer needed.
    Archive old files
    Archive — move, copy and delete, or backup and remove — files you do not use regularly to CD or another backup medium.
    Archiving files and folders creates a copy of the items in a compressed file. Archived files take up less disk space than uncompressed files, so archiving is useful for making backup copies of your data and sending information over the Internet.

  • ACE server response issue

    Hi all,
    I have a issue with a ACE configuration which terminate https traffic and load balance the client request to the real servers.
    All working fine, with one exception. If the client requests for the URL "https://www.myservice.com/content/" the connection working perfect.
    If the request are "https://www.myservice.com/content" (missing slash on the end), the real servers sending a redirect back to the client.
    The redirect is "http://www.myservice.com/content/".
    How can I absorb the request to get not http but https.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Regards,
    Rene

    Hi Kanwal,
    I have tried your solution today without any success.
    The configuration are simple, but the result are always the same.
    client browser---------https--------ACE-------http---------rserver
    If the client use the URL: https://this.is.a.request.com/dir/
    All will working fine. But if the user us the URL: https://this.is.a.request.com/dir <-- missing slash
    The server response back to the client are: http://this.is.a.request.com/dir/ <-- respond via http not https
    But the ACE are not configured to response to http.
    I used also your recommendation, but without any success.
    I have tried the function with “ssl url rewrite” but this solution did not work.
    My I am absolutely wrong with my way, but you will find the configuration below, which I have configured. Probably you have a solution for me.

  • Bad server cache issue

    Hi all: Our remaining XP computers are running the Novell Client 4.91 SP5 IR1. I recently moved the locations of directories we use for folder redirection to another server. When my users log into some of these XP computers, they receive a message that the folder is not available (\\server_path_to_folder) yet they can browse to a mapped drive on that same server (I:\something). I was advised by Novell to turn off the bad server cache and set the associated timeouts to 0. However, this problem persists.
    Has anyone seen similar behavior? And how did you fix it?

    Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned we use group policies via ZCM 11.2.4. I have also check the registry and all is fine. If I wait for 5 minutes, the default timeout period which I had set to 0, then everything begins to work.
    If I knew how to clear this cache maybe I could work around the problem.

    Hi,
    I'm not sure of the method you have specifically used for folder
    redirection, but, was that mechanism ever updated and pushed down to the
    workstation correctly? That's where I would look.

  • WS Deployed on Oracle App. Server, Response issue for some requests

    I have a WebService deployed on Oracle Application Server and it's an HTTPS connection. I am facing a small issue and can't figure out
    what's going on. For each request there's a response to let know the requester that data is processed successfully or any error. The caller of the Web Service makes a call and sends in an xml data. It's processed on my end and then a return type is an Element that holds the response data. Once in a while the caller does not get a response back even though on my end I don't see any errors and the data is processed successfully.
    Here is the signature of the function:
    public Element parseData(Element data) throws RemoteException; And I can't figure out why a caller does not receive a response back for some of the requests. Any ideas what might be wrong or how to debug this issue. Is there any place I can look to see for each request is a response going back. I don't know if it's related Network or App. Server and where to start to debug this.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi there.
    If the consumer of your service is a .NET client, it will silently ignore any response that is not formated as advertize in the WSDL and will return an empty object to the caller. As you are trying to use raw XML Element, it seams to be a potential explaination.
    If you can turn off SSL in your test environment, you may want to run a TCP sniffer tool, on the host where your server is running. You can setup a filter on the IP @ of the consumer or the TCP port of the service comsumed. I'll recommend you look at ethereal as it's a cross platform utility.
    Hope it helps.

  • JavaMail, ESMTP, problem with this server response: "+  stunnel"

    I need to send message through a STMP server I don't know much about. The server works fine, when using port 25. But I need to send mail through port 465. I've looked around the web, I've searched the forums, but found no solution.
    I've identified, that the server uses some kind of strange "secure" connection. I was told, that is uses SSL, but when I use SMTPSSLTransport, it says the "Unrecognized SSL, plaintext connection?". So I am using the common Transport. This is my code:
                props.put("mail.transport.protocol","smtps");
                props.put("mail.smtp.host", smtpHost);
                props.put("mail.smtp.port", 465);
                props.put("mail.smtps.starttls.enable","true");
                props.put("mail.smtps.ssl", "true");
                props.put("mail.smtps.socketFactory.port", 465);
                props.put("mail.smtps.socketFactory.class", "javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory");
                Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props);
                session.setDebug(true);
                Transport transport = session.getTransport();
    ...I am getting this output:

      nested exception is:
            java.net.SocketException: Connection resetI have no idea, what a stunnel is, but it is causing the problem, I think.
    Does anybody have any ideas what can be wrong? Or does anyone know how to check the server setting? Or what properties can I try to set? (I've tried all possible options of the properties I am already setting in the code).

    You're getting newline (LF without the CR)? If so,
    it's possible that Thunderbird isn't seeing that as
    an end of line and so considers the "+stunnel" to
    be part of the greeting line.
    Either way, there's something messed up in the
    server configuration and you really need to report
    that to the server administrator.
    Also, port 465 is supposed to be an SSL port,
    starting in SSL mode, not starting in plain text
    mode as you're seeing. Again, this is evidence
    that the server is set up incorrectly.
    JavaMail will support STARTTLS just fine, and it
    won't care what port you're using, but that bogus
    "+stunnel" line is a protocol violation that's
    confusing it. Possibly Thunderbird is taking the
    approach of "throw away garbage until I see
    something I recognize", but JavaMail isn't working
    that way.
    If this was a server on the public internet that
    lots of people might encounter, I might be inclined
    to add a workaround to JavaMail. But since this is
    a private server that's clearly configured incorrectly
    and is clearly violating the protocol, I think the best
    thing to do is to get the server fixed.

    Did you create a relay connector to allow to relay in Exchange? About how to create a relay connector, you can refer to the following article.

    To allow a device to use Exchange to relay a message to an outside recipient, you also need the ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient attribute.

  • Anyone else seeing "Invalid server response" when logging into VCMA through a web browser?

    I am getting "Invalid server response" when I log into VCMA from Safari on my iPhone. I have the app on my iPad and it will connect and manage my ESXi hosts normally (so I am fairly certain the setup and config of the Virtual Appliance went ok).
    I Googled the error and got some returns about different Virtual Appliances doing the same thing. Seems to be an issue with running VCenter on a Windows 2008 server (which we are). Users reported switching VCenter to Windows Server 2003 boxes and it worked fine.
    Anyone else ran into this and figured it out?
    My environment:
    vCenter Server 4.1.0 - Build:258902
         - running as a VM on ESXi 4.1.0 - Build: 348481
         - running on top of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
         - vSphere Client 4.1.0 - Build: 258902
    vCenter Server and VCMA Appliance are on the same subnet.

    I had not done that yet, but thanks to your suggestion I have made that change.
    I am not sure if the above fixed the issue, but I am now able to get the website to load. I was trying to load the page https://vcmaServerIP:5480 which will load a login page. When you try to log into it, I was and am still getting the error I first posted about. By some weird chance I tried to load the page https://vmcaServerIP and got a completely different looking page and was able to log in and work like I should be able to.
    So, lesson learned: do not put the :5480 at the end of the URL and you will get the correct login page.
    Thank you dschubot for your help.

  • Delivery fails: "The server response was: 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX3"

    Trying to setup an Exchange 2013 server, with the DC and Exchange on same machine. WHen I try to deliver for either of the 2 mailboxes I have setup, I get this error.
    The server returned status code 451 - Error in processing. The server response was: 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX3
    It doesn't seem to be a resource issue (I'm running an XL instance on Azure), and all other connectivity works fine (and fast). I just can't receive email there.
    Looking in the event logs, I saw one issue related to the Front End HTTP proxy, but I wouldn't assume that's relevant here. (And connectivity via Outlook & OWA seem to be fine, with the exception
    of some redirect issues on the latter).
    I did end up installing Exchange on a secondary drive for space considerations, so the location is different... not sure if that would factor in either.
    Any ideas? I don't even really know where to start debugging this. I'm trying to set this up to work on some event sync/forwarding code.

    Ok, I think I solved my problem but figured I would update here for others who may be running into the same issue.
    In my \Exchange\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive\*.LOG, I found more detailed information on the issue.
    "Message or connection acked with status Retry and response
    451 4.4.0 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP address: ""421 4.2.1 Unable to connect.""
    Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts. The last endpoint attempted was 10.10.10.1:2525"
    I thought creating an endpoint for 25 would be sufficient, but once I created another endpoint for 2525 then my tests started working.

  • APEX hosted site slow response issues

    Hi,
    Is anyone else experiencing slow response issues when navigating through the hosted (apex.oracle.com) APEX site. About a 2-3 weeks ago we started noticing that it takes a long time to log into the site as well as navigate through anything
    This might sound odd but often times how we would workaround it is by repeatedly "re-clicking" a link or a button to get the page to return. Whenever the site is slow in respnding we wound see "Waiting for apex.oracle.com" in the browser's bottom console.
    We see the same issue with IE or Firefox and its only the apex.oracle.com site that has this problem.

    As I posted on another thread:
    Sorry for the lack of a reply here. With the long holiday in the U.S. and then my past two days of this week, spending at least a half a day each on apex.oracle.com, I haven't been paying attention to the discussion forums. I was unaware of this active thread.
    Don't worry Ben, I'm not going to say "It's fine for me". TKyte had identified a bug or two in Ask Tom over the weekend, and I tried to fix them on Monday morning. What should have taken me 10 minutes took me two hours.
    This has been my top priority for the past two days. There are some networking issues still being researched. A configuration change was made earlier today which seems to have alleviated the issue, but I'm not convinced that it will be a permanent fix.
    Understand that this has not been a database issue nor an Application Express issue. Every time the performance was glacial, both yesterday and today, I examined the database and there was hardly anything going on. It was a hardware (filer) issue a month ago, and it appears to be either firewall or network card or network issue or all three. Regardless, I am embarrassed for Oracle's sake - this should be our flagship for Oracle Application Express, and the past month or two of poor performance can only serve to dissuade from using Oracle and Oracle Application Express.

  • Bad Server Certifcate?

    Alright, I've got a bit of an odd problem here.
    Whenever I go on to a site that Safari says could be "insecure," I choose to continue, but when loading the page, all pictures on that page are replaced by blue boxes with question marks in them.
    So I checked the "Activity" window, and for all those pictures, the words, "Bad Server Certificate" appear.
    Is there anyway to get around this, so I can actually navigate on sites with this message?
    Thanks
    Ziggy

    If you have the DeBug menu to the right of Safari's Help menu, scroll down to the bottom to "Security" and click, then select "Performs Lax Certificate Checks".
    This allows you to navigate secure sites who have signed their own certificate (very common), and actually do have secure encryption; but, because their certificate was not signed by a known, "trusted", third party certificate authority, Safari issues fair warning.
    ==============================
    Don't have the DeBug menu? Turn it on this way:
    Quit Safari.
    Open HD->Applications->Terminal;
    at the cursor, a gray block, type the following:
    <code>defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1</code>
    Relaunch Safari and see the DeBug menu.
    ==============================
    P.S. This "lax certificate" preference doesn't seem to hold after you quit and relaunch Safari. But it's probably best to set it site by site anyway.

  • Remote server response was not rfc conformant

    Hii folks, I have an issue with Exchange 2010 outbound mails.
    Mails of some domains stuck in  the queue with error "remote server response was not rfc conformant"
    Appreciate your responds.

    Hi,
    According to your description, This issue is related to one of your clients. And I’d like to confirm if emails from the problematic user are stuck in the queue and other emails are delivered successfully.
    If yes, I’d like to also confirm the version of the problematic user. Is it Exchange account? External user or internal user? Does it belong to a distribution group?
    Additionally, I recommend to check the SMTP protocol log:
