  • No sound from audio jack and screen doesn't dim, using BootCamp 3.1 in Win7

    I'm using BootCamp 3.1 in Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)
When I plug in headphones I get no output sound; however, I do get sound from the main speakers (regardless of the headphones being connected or not). Side note, there is no red light coming from the audio jack.
Another problem that I'm having: when I try to dim the display, using either F1 or F2, or from the BootCamp Control Panel in the Dim tab, it doesn't dim.
I've saw in Apple's Support Download section that there is "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Windows 64 bit)", but as you can see it's "Mid 2010" and not "Mid 2009".
However, for the sake of exhausting everything I can think of before posting here, I tried to download and install it. Only to get an error that states "The patch upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be updated exists on your computer and that you have the correct update patch."
    Any suggestions?

  • HP pavilion g6 no sound from audio jack or usb

Hi, I normally use my laptop with some headphones on the headphone jack, but just a few minutes ago my headphone jack stopped working and all the sound came out of the internal speakers. When I connected my USB headset on it didnt work either and all the sound stil comes from the speakers. The troubeshooter couldnt find any problems. Plz help

Your iPod will require a replacement logic board.  A chip necessary for audio production has gone faulty and since it's integrated to your mainboard, it will require replacement.  Oftentimes you can squeeze hard along the bottom front edges of the device and failtly get partial sound.  This is another key sign of this damage.

  • No sound on Audio jack p55-A5312, win 8.1

    Hi
I have a toshiba p55-A5312, i have full sound output on ubuntu both speakers and audio jack but when i updated to win 8.1 the 3.5 mm audio jack doesn't output sound any more! when using windows! the toshiba update utility shows that i should update my driver to be used with win 8.1 which is 16 mb as it shows but it just hangs there forever!
i went to the website and i chose my model then sound then IDT driver and guess what the link is broken! no wonder the app hanged up forever can't download it!
and since IDT doesn't give download links to users i have to wait till some engineering guy realizes this and updates the link as Toshiba doesn't offer any sort of online chat support or customer service
here is the broken driver link : http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/tca0104800e.exe
i hope someone from Toshiba spots it out!

little update i left the toshiba utility to update overnight and it didn't work too !!!
the funniest part is that i can get sound normally from the hobbyists who create backdoor drivers on linux

  • No internal speakers | digital output only | red light from audio jack

I plugged in a stereo through analogue mini jack to the headphone socket of my mac book pro. When i unplugged the stereo, the internal speakers failed to work. There is now a red light coming from the jack as if a "digital output" is plugged into the socket. But no digital output has ever been plugged into the socket - and I have no control of mute or volume settings.
When I plug headphones in, they work fine and I have control of mute and volume settings. Once the headphones are removed I am automatically set back to "digital output" with no control over mute or volume, and no audio from m internal speakers.
I have tried changing the settings in system preferences/sound/settings/output ... but there is no option other than "digital output". I suppose I would like to select "internal speakers" but there is no option for this. And like I stated earlier, the jack is lit up red.
I've tried software updates, restarts, disk utilities (permissions and repairs including repairing with the startup disk), plugging and unplugging, but to no avail.
When I try to change the volume on the keyboard's volume controls I get the "no entry" sign under the volume bar and have no control (as if it were stuck on mute).
The only thing I can think of is that I forced a mini jack into the headphone socket too hard so I'm worried that I've damaged the hardware.
Could this have caused the problem? Or is this a software issue? Any help would be appreciated.
In short I have no sound from the internal speakers.

Same here. I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary. I was working in Parallels on getting a AM station to stream via some web interface. Next time I went to play sound on the internal speakers, no go.
I've tried zapping the PRAM, toggling the headphone jack and the toothpick thing. Nothing seems to work.
I've also noticed that I get sound in my headphones in iTunes but not in Garageband (someone had suggested that starting up Garageband would reset things.
    Any other ideas out there?
Is there a file that could get corrupted that I could switch out of my back up?

  • Kernel Panic plus a Red Light from Audio jack

First off, I'm gettin a Kernel panic EVERY SINGLE time I boot into Macintosh. This is not good. I can't access my Mac partition at all, and now I'm stuck with using Windows.
Secondly, there's this red light that's coming out of my Audio jack. I've done some research and I've already inserted a toothpick and tried to toggle a 'switch' or something, but the red light hasn't gone away. I'm still without any sound.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am not involved to any great extent with iTunes or its music although my recent iPod has drawn me in that direction.
So reflecting on your observations regarding iTunes m4a and m4p...
    a. Everything that I have read so far says that m4a and m4p are the same except that the m4p includes the DRM restrictions (or it did until iTunes did away with DRM for its music). Further these file extensions seem to wrap AAC audio compression.
    b. Premiere Elements (many versions) seems to have been hit with many users issues relating to the use of iTunes music in their creations. My recollection is that these users usually presented with .m4a music and were directed to a variety of methods for converting the .m4a to .mp3. The rationale behind the suggestions appear to be go to the protected music aspect of the music rather than a file extension or audio compression incompatibility issue. All of these conversions rightly or wrongly seemed to be wrapped with the protect issue. Converting the .m4a to .mp3 worked for most. That was their bottom line. Whether the .m4a (in spite of its file extension) had DMR causing the issue or format incompatibility causing it never seemed to be defined.
    c. In fact, there are numerous articles online that address removal of DRM from iTunes m4a, AAC, and m4p.
    d. But, since iTunes appears to have removed DRM from its music, the matter dissolves.
    e. Prior to the iTunes' removal of the DRM, it is not clear to me just what iTunes music had DRM in spite of its file extension.

  • No sound from headphone jack on 2011 imac 27"

I usually use the headphone jack on the back of my iMac to drive studio speakers thru a mixing console. I recently unplugged the cable from that jack to hear something through the internal iMac speakers, which worked fine, and now that I've plugged the cable back in, I can't get the external speakers to work. In System Preferences/Sound/Output, the display vacillates between "Internal speakers" and "headphones" when I jiggle the cable in the headphone jack, which leads me to believe that the output jack has become damaged. That would mean taking it in for replacement, right? Or does Apple throw the baby away with the bathwater and just replace the whole computer, rather than replacing the jack itself?
In any event, does anyone have any ideas for me from what I just posted? Thanks very much.

    Hi all again
After reading through a few other posts here I decided to check "System Preferences." After doing this I discovered that when the headphones are plugged in it set to mute. Not sure how that happened, as I nevered changed anything and I am only one using this computer. I guess it does not matter, as long as the problem is fixed.
    Thanks
    Michael

  • No Sound From Headphone Jack, Only Internal Speakers working in Macbook Pro A1278

Hello, the internal speakers of Macbook Pro A1278 OSX 10.7.5 are working perfectly, but no sound from headphones or external speakers when plugged in. Headphones/speakers recognized when plugged in, shown by System Preferences/Sound, and since the sound stops from internal speakers when headphones/speakers are plugged in. No red light seen coming from headphone jack, as I read in other posts. The problem began after a cable was connected between computer and stereo system. Maybe overloaded the sound card and burned out a connection? Wondering if you think that the sound card needs to be replaced or is there another solution possible? Thank you.

    Hello JohnBoarkman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you hear no sound from your accessory when you connect to your headphone jack. My first troubleshooting suggestion for this situation would be resetting the NVRAM on your Mac. Please use the instructions in the attached article to complete this process and let me know if the issue continues.

  • Removing "phone" sound from audio made over the phone

I'm producing a documentary and want to get some sound bites from a range of people all over the country The only way to get them is by phone. Does anybody have filter info that will let me remove the "phone" sound from these clips?

A phone sounds like a phone because it's already filtered. A lot of both the high and low frequency information is removed from the audio signal on a phone line. Once it's removed there's not really a way to get it back. You can try to reduce the most offensive "tinny" frequencies with an EQ, but you won't be able to add the full frequency range back in.
