Bad Sync

Hi. My 6822 wont complete the sync process. PC Suite tells me the sync has finished but the phone just dislays "quitting sync" forever. I have to stop it by presseing the end call button. Next time I sync the phone creates duplicates in Outlook (presumably because the sync process didnt finish) Any idea how I can fix this?

Just check the "Manually manage music and videos" option in the iPod section of iTunes and then, drag just the songs you want from your library to your iPod.

  • A bad sync overwrote my profile with the wrong information. How can I recover?

I turned on sync on my home computer without realizing that I'd set up a sync account for my work computer. The two computers have _very_ different bookmarks and login/password data. Before I realized it, my home computer profile was overwritten with my work profile. My bad for not backing up my profile, but here I am. I will lose physical access to this computer for four months on 10/23, so I'm trying to get back to the old state. How can I do this? I'm leery of trying a reset, given how I just messed up my system.
My original goal was to have two profiles on my work computer, one for home, one for work, and both synced according to the device name.
Many thanks to anyone who can help.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

  • QT 7.1 export to FLV - bad sync!

    Hey all,
I just upgraded to QT Pro 7.1.0 and am having problems with the 'Export to FLV' preset. (I have Flash 2004 MX Pro on the system). When I make an export to FLV (which I do frequently for web work) now the resulting video's audio is out of sync with the pic.
This however doesn't happen if I choose to use Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 to perform the same function.
The QT Pro versions prior to this have all exported to FLV with no sync problems.
Should I maybe upgrade to 'Apple Intermidiate Codec' 1.0.1 or am I barking up the wrong tree here ?
Anyone got any ideas they can share ?
    Thanks!
    TC
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You may need to download some of the Canon video codecs before you can export.
The 2126 error message is "notAllowedToSaveMovieErr" which doesn't mean that much to you.
You may also need the MPEG-2 Playback component.
Should be easy, but it isn't.

  • Fixing badly-synced flash myself

Are there any tools (FireFox plugins, third-party flash players, etc), that allow end-users to fix flash video that is out-of-sync while it is streaming? Every once in awhile I come across a YouTube video, etc, that is improperly synced, and it would be great to be able to delay the video or audio as required — in realtime, while it is streaming — so I can enjoy it anyhow.
I'm using a Mac but can run Windows in Parallels if needed.
    • I should add that, where it is the audio that needs to be delayed, this can be accomplished with something like Wiretap Pro's "LivePreview" — you just put a delay filter on your sound output. But if the sound is running behind the video, I don't know what to do at all.
    • Also, if you have the video downloaded, it's easy to use VLC to fix either problem: just play the video and use the synchronization hotkeys (F and G, on the Mac at least) to line everything up.

There's no official Apple Store near me (India, unfortunately, hasn't heard the gospel of Steve) so I'd have to go an AASP in Delhi, next time I'm there. However, I'm concerned that they'll see I bumped my case up and put me on some blacklist of "idiots who voided their waranties". If I took it to them, could they refuse to treat any future problems on AppleCare because I messed up my case?

  • [Bug] Bad algorithm to mark SMSs as read

I use so much my phone connected to my laptop... so I receive and send messenges on Ovi Suite. But is very annoying that when I disconnect my phone many messenger were not marked as read and this is why:
    1. If one contact is already selected when you receive a messenger that message is displayed but never marked as read and the contact and the messenger will remain in bold, double clicking it will mark it as read.
    2. If 1. happens several times until you double click that contact the last message will be marked but the others will remain in bold, and you can't do nothing to marked them but to change the view from contacts grouped view to time line view and mark one by one...
    3. Balloons doesn't highlight in bold even if they are unread.
    4. All these result on a bad sync of the read and unread messages with the phone. Leaving the phone with unread messages that has been already read on screen and replied.
Suggested Solution: anchors in balloons and scroll events could control if you read or not messages in the balloons view.

  • Why do Encore CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 have intermittant Sync issues?

I am noticing that Encore CS5 is "buggy" regarding sync issues with material edited by Womble and Corel Video Studio and I am guessing other programs as well?
In high definition I take AVCHD and  edit in Corel Video Studio.  If I leave the project as one single 42 minute segment and import this asset into Encore CS5, more often than not there are bad sync issues.  To get around this I have to divide the 42 minute project into approximately 6 smaller ones- Each smaller asset ends where I had done the editing.  Encore does not have any problems now with these 6 smaller assets.
In standard definition I edit in Womble and export as a MPEG2 Program.  Sometimes Encore has a problem with the asset sync and sometimes it does not.  (I am guessing about 20% of my assets end up with a problem).  The same asset if brought into TMP or brought back into Womble does not have any sync issue.  If brought into Premiere Pro CS5 it will exhibit the same behavior as Encore- If Encore has a sync problem, so will Premiere Pro.  So to get around this I then have to go back to the original womble file and break it up into smaller pieces, at every edit point I cut and export the smaller file just after the end of the transition I applied.  With a 6 hour project I may end up with dozens of small files to get around this problem- not very efficient.
Any ideas how to fix this or why Encore is so buggy?  Would moving the original assets around in Womble- example taking something that was at the end of the timeline and then moving it to the beginning cause these issues for Encore?   Or is there some other cause?
    Encore CS5
    Premiere Pro CS5
    Windows 7 64 BIT
    Quad core
    2.4 GHZ clock speed
    6GB memory
150 GB free space on drive
    NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 card

I've used VideoReDo in the past, which I believe has some similar strategies to Womble.  I found when I tested streams, that there were often problems in the source streams, and that the fix was not 100 percent.
You may also find such files that are not 100 percent the same length video to audio.
In any event, the possibility other than Encore being buggy is that the files you are bringing in have problems when Encore tries to validate them.  I'm not saying Encore doesn't have its problems, but clean mpeg files do not have sync issues ordinarily.
For some scenarios, I like your workflow (edit mpeg files in a frame accurate mpeg editor that is not retranscoding the whole file), but the results are often not consistent.
You don't say, and I would certainly look at, the nature of the audio stream you are using.  I can not tell you what the problems are, but some streams just do not edit well, even though they may play back okay in some players, but still have issues in Encore and/or Premiere.

  • Syncing music gets to B in the alphabet and then stops...?

So, I plug my new iPad into the computer, it starts syncing and then after a few minutes just stops and iTunes closes, with no sort of a warning. I am left with some music on my iPad but only part way through the artists beginning with B. Curious and annoying...
Any help or suggestions? Thanks very much in advance.
    Fraser

So to be clear, it did it with the older itunes and is still doing it.
I agree with the above poster. Sounds like a bad file.
I'd eliminate all music from my sync starting with A & B to see if that appects it. If still bad, sync everything except music.
If the sync is good, you'll need to find the bad song. Look for the next song that would have sync'ed in your list if the sync had continued. Some trial and error is the only way to eliminate the bad files, if that is indeed what it is.

  • Captured 24A footage wildly out of sync in FCP, but fine in QT

I just captured a bunch of 24A footage I shot on my Panasonic DVX100A and was dismayed to find that the clips were all wildly out of sync when I opened them in FCP--even though they are fine when I open the captured files directly in QT on my desktop. But when I play these same clips in FCP, the audio slips so steadily out of sync that on one 47 minute take, the video ended seven minutes before the audio, so the clip ends with seven minutes of sound against a black screen!
I actually found a workaround for this problem in a thread started by another poster with a similar sync problem. On that thread someone suggested that if I simply opened the underlying file as a QT movie on my desktop and then edited a second or two from the beginning, and saved it as a new Self Contained QT movie, I could import that one into FCP and it would have no sync issues. For reasons I still don't quite understand, that workaround solved the problem almost every time.
Until now, when not even that convoluted solution seems to help with this latest clip. Even after shaving the ends and saving it with a new name, the resultant QT file still imports into FCP with the same off sync problem.
Obviously, the best solution would be to figure out why clips are capturing with bad sync in the first place. For the record, I've shot and captured many, many hours of 24A footage from this camera in the past without experiencing any syn issues. As far as I can tell, the audio was shot and captured at 48.0 KHZ, just like always. (And the out of sync clip shows up as having 48.0 KHZ audio in the FCP browser.)
Since it was shot at 24A, I captured it using Advanced Pulldown removal as always. (Oddly, I notice in the browser info window that the clip shows up as 29.97 fps and not 23.98--if that's a clue to anyone.)
Thanks for your guidance on a sticky issue that has me stopped in my tracks.

    Hello GeeFor,
I was browsing for a different audio sync issue and came across your post. It caught my attention because I believe that I've ran into the same problem before and figured out what causes it, so I thought I'd share my experience.
You said that you've noticed that FCP initially recognizes the problem clips as 29.97, even though you've captured the 24PA footage with Advanced Pulldown. I've found that if, while you are capturing 24PA footage, you allow the capture to go beyond the recorded footage and into blank tape, that FCP recognizes the entire clip as 29.97. This causes audio sync problems, and if you end up trying to do a final export, will cause video problems as well.
I've successfully duplicated this problem and the solution is to make sure to stop your capture before your 24PA footage ends and blank tape begins. One way to avoid the problem is to record black to the entire tape while on the 24PA setting prior to filming. I normally just record an extra minute or two while on location at the end of the footage.
I think your work around in Quicktime works because you are effectively removing the break in timecode at the end of the clip, therefore FCP sees a start and end timecode that matches the 24PA settings.
I hope this fixes your issue, I'd be curious to know if it does. I did a lot of trial and error to figure out what my problem/solution was and I couldn't find anything in the forums that helped with my particular issue.

  • Movies lose audio/video sync as they progress

I've got a lot of old VHS tapes I'm transferring to DVD-R. I play them on my VHS player connected to DAC-100 converter that goes into iMovie. From iMovie I burn the video either with Toast or iDVD. Either way, a lot of the DVD-R's have the audio out of sync with the video, and some don't! They are synced when I play them back in iMovie before burning.Sometimes the sync on the burnt DVD-R is ok at the beginning but slowing goes out of sync so by the end of the video it's way out of sync. So, what's one to do?? I hate to waste the time & discs but it seems there's no way to know for sure how a DVD-R's going to turn out until you burn it and play it.
And, while I'm at it, the latest version of iMovie HD makes the clips all about an hour long. I prefer them shorter(like in the older versions), but I can find no preference to set a length.
    Help!

I have been bitten by the sync problem as well, and have spent most of this week trying to troubleshoot it. FYI, I've been doing video conversion and editing on PC's for years, but recently moved to OSX, a Datavideo DAC-100 (Firewire DV analog capture device) and the iLife tools.
And before anyone asks, I use 16 bit audio capture. I've verified this by looking at the file that are generated. I've also looked at all the iMovie sync FAQ's on the Internet. Audio sync problems and I are old enemies.
    Here's what I've found:
While the video is in it's original DV file captured by iMovie, the audio sync is perfect. I've done a 3 hour capture, and the sync was fine all the way through.
When and where the sync goes bad is when the audio is extracted from the DV file, whether by manually extracting the audio in iMovie, converting the DV to another format (including another DV file), or 'sharing' the movie to iDVD. I belive this is because the DV file format tightly links the audio to the movie timeline. When the audio is extracted, it is associated to the video only by the length (in time) of the two files. And either the audio is slightly time compressed, or the video is slightly time expanded. I suspect the audio is slightly time compressed.
I've created a predictable test case with my video, where i can capture a 15 minute block of video. At the end of the file the audio sync is perfect while in the DV format , and is ahead of the video by about 1.5 seconds after extracted.
A simple workaround would be to use a sound or video editing package that allows you chop the audio when it goes silent and to stretch the remaining audio to match the length of the video. VirtualDub and CoolEdit for the PC used to be able to do this. I've tried doing this with Quicktime Pro with no success, though. I'll keep looking for a decent OSX program to try to do this with.
This does, however, only work around the problem, not identify where it is, or fix it.
I think I've also determined that this is a problem in the standard OSX DV stream capture API, not in the conversion process of Quicktime from DV audio to whatever.
I used BTV Pro (http://www.bensoftware.com/), a shareware/capture tool that can handle DV streams on my test case. The results were EXACTLY the same as under iMovie. I believe that BTV uses OSX's standard APIs for accessing DV streams from firewire.
Additionally, I've extracted the audio from the test DV using a non-apple DV codec (ffmpeg), and reimported it to iMovie and Quicktime. It is identical to the bad sync audio that iMovie extracts.
This leads me to believe that it's a problem with either the DAC-100's DV streams (which is set to the OSX dip switch settings) or OSX's DV capture API.
I then installed Avid Free DV (http://www.avid.com/freedv/index.asp), a free stripped down version of a high end OSX video editing package, and successfully captured the 15 minute test case, exported it to a DV file (using both the AVID and Apple DV codecs), imported the resulting DV file into iMovie, and extracted the audio. The extracted audio synced perfectly with the video in iMovie at this point.
Just to make sure that Avid didn't just 'fix' a bad DV file, I did another test capture from iMovie, and imported the file into Avid Free DV. The resulting video had the expected sync problem, which was expected since Avid uses Quicktime for importing and exporting video.
This points the problem squarely at the Apple capture APIs, as I believe that AVID uses its own. For some reason, the files generated by iMovie/BTV exhibit the sync problems when the audio is extracted in all cases, while files generated by Avid Free DV do not.
I still don't know what the issue is with OSX/iMovie and my DAC-100. I also know that not all DAC-100 users have the problem, nor do all iMovie users with their equipment. This could be a codec incompatibility with the version of firmware on the DAC-100 with OSX, a bug in the cap
