Bad time to build PC? + Storage Help

I'm currently editing photos (from a 5D3) and AVCHD+Prores video (from a C100/Ninja recorder) on an iMac 27" (3.4ghz i7, 680M GPU, 16gb RAM). I work off of a 4Tb thunderbolt drive which is cloned onto another 4Tb drive every two days.
It all works and it's not TOOO slow, but I am after something substantially better especially when it comes to interactive performance, so I'm thinking of building a new PC for myself. I feel that apart from the CPU/GPU performance, it's the memory and storage systems that will be the biggest upgrade between the iMac and PC.
I am looking at a build using the 4930k, 32Gb DDR3 2133 RAM and Geforce 780.
I have two questions however:
1. Is it a bad time to build a new editing workhorse with Haswell-E just around the corner? It seems the socket and chipset are very close to EOL and an 8 core Haswell-E might be a significant upgrade again.
2. I've spent a fair bit of time looking over the RAID Storage guides on this forum and others. There are a lot of recommendations to get into RAID3 setups etc.
My question is, if I have the correct backups and don't care about the redundancy aspect of things why would I go for an expensive RAID setup when I can dedicate a few SSDs for the project/scratch/media? It seems most SSDs hit 500MB/s and I already have a few laying around the place. I'm thinking of the following drive setup:
a. 500Gb SSD - OS/Apps/Pagefile
b. 500Gb SSD - Media for current project - Synced up to d
c. 250Gb SSD - Scratch
d. 4-8Tb HDD in RAID0 or JBOD Storage - Synced up to e and f at different time intervals
e. 4-8Tb External Backup #1
f. 4-8Tb External Backup #2
That should provide very fast storage for my current projects and give me 2-3 levels of backup without RAID setups. 500Gb should hold a few projects at a time too and as SSD prices continue to fall those drives will climb up to 1Tb.
Any downsides to this?

Did you know that you can now build a single processor 8, 10, or 12 core machine now? Just one 2011 LGA motherboard manufacturer that will accept the Xeon E5 v2 chips are the Asrock x79 motherboards.

First time PC build. Please help.

So first off I'm pretty amateur. I have been running Pr elements on an old destop for a while and putting together a few little DSLR projects. Im starting to get a few more serious projects and need to upgrade things. I was tempted to go down the Mac route but have pretty much opted against that. I am planning on getting Production Premium, as I can get student pricing. Going this route I really need a good computer that I can rely on to cut and color quickly. Keep in mind that Im not doing anything really fancy. Mostly simple edits with coloring and other basic effects.
This is what the computer shop recomended based on what I thought I needed. The price came out a little higher than Id like, so any recommendations would be really appreciated. I am really not much of a computer guy so I have no idea if there are any problems with this setup. Is it too much for what I'm doing? What would you do to make it better?

I agree with Harm... I have Win7 64bit Pro and CS5 Master Collection and MS Office Pro and "several" other, smaller programs on my boot drive... and only 60gig is used... I do have my work load spread across 3 drives
My 3 hard drives to edit AVCHD are configured as...
1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folder and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (*)
(*) for 4 drives, drive 3 all source files & drive 4 all output files

First time to build computer - Need help

Hello, I just finished putting my computer together. It was my first time and I think everything went pretty well. I just finished putting Windows XP on it. However, I have a few questions/problems still:
1) Whenever I turn the computer on it still has a screen with Platinum on it saying tab to post | del to enter bios. Is this normal?
2) After that screen goes away, it stops loading and says "Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP" and I have to make a selection.
3) After I press F1 to continue it says Press<Ctrl+S> or F4 to enter Raid Utility, but I dont have any raid stuff. If i leave it alone, then it enters into XP
4) After XP loads, if I try to goto my computer I get a blue screen. It says MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION on it towards the top. Towards the bottom it says
*** STOP: 0x00000009C (0x00000 and some more numbers). How do I fix this. I don't know if this helps, but I have a 200GB harddrive that was brand new, and whenever I booted with XP CD it said it only saw 131,000+ MB. I said to format anyway, hope that didn't screw me up.

1. It's a normal default setting for the bios screen to show the logo. I personally don't like it, so I turned it off. You can access it in the "Advanced BIOS" page of the bios.
2. Something must be in error to have the system stop booting. The bios only stops on errors. I wouldn't be overly concerned yet though. Default settings on the board make it stop on all errors. It should give you a reason why it's stopping so look at the screen when it stops and tells you to hit F1. That should give you an idea of what needs fixing.
3. Just turn off the RAID function. It's in the "Integrated Peripherals" screen.
4. Could be any number of reasons, checking your memory would be a good first step. As to Windows only seeing it as 131GB, that's probably because you installed with an older version of Windows XP, before SP1. Back then it couldn't see drives bigger then around 139GB. Install SP2 and you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure that your BIOS sees it as 186GB. That's what 200GB drives usually show up as.

After CMOS battery changing all BIOS settings are deleted.
I would recommend to enter the BIOS and there you can find the option for system date and time.
Try to set a right date/time and save your changes.

Your files are unaffected by a reset.. no reset via the reset button on the TC harms, deletes or does anything to your files.
The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on.. all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Here is how to do a fully manual setup for TC which is sometimes necessary with Mavericks in particular.

Building a Forum - Help over this topic

I’m intending to build a forum like the one that we are
using at this moment.
I’m basically a designer and I have experience building
web pages on my computer and then transferring all through FTP to a
Host with the Dreamweaver. So everything is simple stuff up to now.
Now I want to go a step further and start to build a Forum
but I’m not sure if Dreamweavre has the capability to build,
run, and update such applications.
If it does. Could some one give me a hint to the right
direction? Some examples, some tutorials, templates?
The forum is though to be serving some 100,000 persons, at
the same time that publicity space is sold through the site.
I need to know if it’s possible to build such an
application directly on my computer and then export everything to a
host, manage users of the site and control publicity.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Dreamweaver is certainly capable of support the development
of a forum application, but are you? To succeed you will need to
become proficient in database design, SQL, and some programming
(scripting) language. Based on your question, I would guess you're
not at that level. I would estimate that it would take 1 good
programmer at least 1 year working full time to build something
equal to the Adobe forums.
Instead, why not just look at integrating one of the many
forum packages that already exist? What server side language were
you planning to use for this project? There are a few good FREE
packages available for PHP and ASP.

Reduce time to build setup project and size of .msi

I have noticed that since we started working with Crystal 2008 (previously we used version 8.5), the merge module added to the Visual Studio 2005 setup project seems to cause the build process to take much longer than before (nearly 10 minutes), and the resulting .msi has ballooned from a few megs into around 54MB.
I think that this is because it is included language support for all languages, even though the only language we need is English. I might be misunderstanding the cause - this is just my best guess.
Does anyone know if there is a way to reduce the amount of time to build, and reduce the size of the .msi?

My Visual Studio 2005 solution is configured to not build the setup project automatically. I only build it manually when I need to do a test deployment on the development server. As I am approaching the end of the development cycle, I am having to deploy to the dev server pretty frequently - this is why the long build process is becoming more of a problem for me. It is making the testing process very cumbersome.
To be honest, the size of the .msi file doesn't cause any problem for me, but I am guessing that if there were a way to reduce the size, it would also reduce the time, since it seems to take a long time to pack everything into that .msi during the setup project build.

Flex Builder crashes if Help is opened

Encore rerenders Assets every time I Build the project...

Hello,
I am working on a project where I have multiple motion menus and chapter selection menus. When I work on a project, I inevitably have to Build the project then play the result in PowerDVD to test for errors. I usually have to Build the project multiple times over the course of troubleshooting the disc. That is usually not a problem.
The problem is that, for some reason, every time I press "Build", Encore will rerender the menus. This takes literally hours to complete. So once it is completed and I test it, I might find a problem with a subtitle. Then I change that subtitle slightly, and rebuild. Instead of going right to compiling the project into a folder, it starts rendering the assets again taking hours.
I have no idea why it is doing this. Once the menus are rendered, I want to be able to change other aspects of the project and Build the project again without this long delay. It is usually the Chapter selection menus which are taking so long to render each time. I have motion previews of the main movie on the three chapter selection menus I have. I am NOT changing the chapter points in any way, yet they keep rerendering each time I build.
Can anyone help me?

Xfinity WiFi Router AirPort Time Capsule....help??

I just upgraded my home internet and Xfinity sent me a new modem. It turned out to be a modem/router. After installing it, I set it up exactly how my previous router was so that it cooperated with my AirPort Time Capsule (phone line & cable > Xfinity router/modem > Airport Time Capsule (plugged into the first Ethernet port)). At first, I was getting an internet signal from my AirPort network even though it was blinking orange. AirPort Utility then popped up and told me I needed to switch it to "bridge mode" (I think that's what it was) so I did. I got a soild green light after that.
So now I have two WiFi networks broadcasting in my house...the Xfinity modem/router is putting out its own network, and then my AirPort Time Capsule is putting out another, which is the same original network that I had always used.
I feel like this is somehow not the most efficient way to set this up. I also want to make sure I'm getting the fastest signal possible and it isn't being cut in half because of the two networks or something like that...I know I could just get rid of the AirPort Time Capsule altogether and connect to the Xfinity modem, but I want to keep the AirPort to access files saved on it, use it for Time Machine, etc.
Any help? I'm thinking that I'm missing a step somewhere...

You are not connected to an ISP.. you are connected to a building shared internet.. this is private IP address and there is no way for you to access it remotely.
You must buy internet services, cable, adsl, even wireless of some sort,, that will give you a routable public IP.

The reason you are receiving each other's text messages is because you are both using the same Apple ID for iMessage. To prevent this you need to use different IDs. (Note: you can still share the same ID for iTunes.) On one of the phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID.
To migrate your 3GS to a new iCloud account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep on the phone to your camera roll. To do this, open the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. Next, if you have any notes that you are syncing with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to email these to yourself so they can be recreated after moving to the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, choose Keep On My iPhone. Next, sign back in with a different Apple ID to create the new account, turn iCloud data syncing preferences and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, if you have merged data in the two accounts that you want to separate you will have to go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account.

Can I use the Time Capsule as an storage drive? Can I create folders and save files on it as with a external hard drive?

Exactly. That's kinda the definition of a backup. When (not if) something awful happens, like your Mac being lost or stolen, or the HD failing or getting corrupted, or you accidentally change or delete some stuff, you have a backup you can recover.

Don't let it. Delete things you don't need. If you can't delete enough, as Neil says, get an external HD for the "overflow" that won't fit, then let Time Machine back up both your Mac and the external. See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for more info.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
