Bad TV video filter won't apply

I can't seem to get the Bad TV and a couple other video effects to apply to a clip. I move the mix button down and can see the video in the canvas, and they render the clip, but there is no change in the video... How do I make these effects work? Thank you for the help.

You don't give any details of your computer etc. other than a generic name.
It could be that your Mac does not meet the minimum requirements of FCE 4.
My eMac (see details below) does not play the FXPlug filters because its specs are too low.

Adjustment Layer staying white and won't apply its effects to layering video?
I was using adjustment layers for color correcting and now my adjustment layer is just staying white and I've looked at so many forums and i can't find what I'm doing wrong...

  • Applying one video filter to multiple clips

How do I apply just one video filter to multiple clips on a timeline in FCP7? "Copy and paste attributes" does not give me the control to select just one filter to apply, for example there is a color corrector and sharpen filter in the copied clip and all I want to paste is sharpen.

Double click on a clip on the timeline that has the sharpness filter with the settings you want to apply to additional clips.
When that clip has loaded to the viewer, click on the filters tab. You will see a list of all the filters you have applied.
Now, on the timeline, select all the clips you want to apply that filter to (you can hold down the Command key while clicking on the clips to select multiple clips).
Once the destination clips are selected, move your cursor to the Viewer window Filters tab display, and click down on the Sharpness filter and drag it to any one of the selected clips on the timeline.
It will be applied to all clips.

  • Apply video filter to many clips at once?

I have a 'sub' sequence that I have embedded into my main sequence and I want to apply a video filter mask (feathered oval) to make the sequence look like its projected from an old film projector. I don't want to apply the filter to each individual clip in my sub sequence because there are many. What is the best approach to doing this? thanks!
    (FCP 5.12)

OK - so I used the word 'embedded' and I think I meant 'nested' - so how exactly do I apply the effect to the nested sequence? I tried and can't seem to make it work - e.g. when I double click on the sequence to open it in the viewer, it opens the nested sequence as its own sequence instead - I can't open it in the viewer to apply the filter.

  • Applying video filter to selected area in clip

    Good morning all
I'm sure it can be done but, for the life of me I cant figure it out ...
Can I or how do I apply a video filter to a selected portion of a clip ?
In other words what I would like to do is, just as I can in a photo editor free select my target , invert my selection and, apply a filter surrounding just what I have selected ...
I hope that makes sense ..
    Thanks

Working with video isn't like working with still images (unless you export an image sequence). However, a few filters (like FCP's 3-Way Color Corrector) have a 'limit effect' feature and do allow you to select portions of the image based on hue.
For other filters/effects, you'll need to duplicate the clip above itself on the Timeline. Apply the filter you want to use to the upper clip. Also apply a garbage matte to the upper copy of the clip. Set the garbage matte so it outlines the area of the image to which you want to apply the effect. You can feather the edges of the matte if needed to soften the transition between the matted area and the unaffected area.

  • Final cut pro quits when video filter is applied

This is a new one on me...
I Installed FCP (studio 3) on a couple of macs at work, only to find that whenever a video filter is applied, it crashes out.  Transitions fine.  Generators fine.  Prefs trashed.  Permissions fixed.  Tried it on ProRes and DV footage with the same result.
    Any ideas?!

If you see this problem on multiple macs, there must be a common denominator.  Is there any antivirus software installed on the systems?  Are you using network storage?
do you have any 3rd party filters installed?
Did you use preference manager to trash preferences?

  • Video Filter does not work.

    Hello.
I have been using Final Cut Pro 4 for a while and it worked fine before. But recently, any function of Video Filter does not work. I apply them to the clip, but the image does not show any changes on Canvas.
    Is the software's problem?
    Thanks in advance.

For a reason unknown to me, FCP's preference files (there's 3 of them) will sometimes become corrupted and need to be trashed. Usually the symptoms are things just not working as they did earlier, or weird issues like the 3 Way Color Corrector looks different than before ... stuff like that.
FCP Rescue is a freeware app (yes, you'll need to download it) that will create a backup set of preferences, thereby retaining all of your settings. Then when (not IF, but when) FCP's preferences become corrupted, you can run FCP Rescue to replace the bad set with a fresh new set.
Otherwise you can delete the files yourself (make sure FCP isn't open at the time) and the next time you launch FCP, it will revert back to the factory settings.

  • Why is the Video Filter "Shift Fields" Automatically being added to my clips?

In the timeline, I've been noticing that FCP is randomly adding the "Shift Field" video filter to about 75% of all my clips in the timeline.
    Is this common?

I don't think in my case FCP has ever wrongly applied the filter when I just was editing from the Viewer to the Canvas. Only when copying footage from sequence to sequence, I discoverd problems.
By the way. You can select all the 'faulty' clips and choose Conform to Sequence from the menu, and al should be right...

Good points, all. Thanks for your contribution, Rienk.
"Conform to Sequence" is a function I have never used, did not know it even existed, thanks for that, too.

  • Motion + Video Filter order

I have two things going within one edited shot.
    1) I zoom into a still photo via Motion.
    2) I use the widescreen Matte video filter.
The problem is that it seems like Motion overrides the matte video filter, so that when
I zoom into the photo, the photo expands but so does the Matte filter, which I don't want.
I want the matte filter to stay put over the moving image
    Any tip?
    Thank you,
    MP

Remove the Widescreen Matte filter from the clip, leaving only the motion effect.
Once this is done, click on the clip on the timeline to select it.
Go to the menu Sequence > Nest Item(s), or type Option + C to nest the clip.
When the Nest box appears, click OK to create the nest.
Now the clip on the timeline has been converted to a self contained nest, so apply the Widescreen Matte to it.
You should see the Widescreen masking the motion.
If you want to make changes to the motion once the clip has been nested, double click on the nest and the original contents will appear. Make you changes and these changes will be reflected when you return to the sequence containing the nest.

  • Copy Video filter to multiple clips

How can I copy the color correction filter all the clips?
I can add the filter to all the clips by selecting them and going to Effects>Video Filter> Color>color correction and the filter show up in every clip. But when I adjust the white using the dropper it apply it only to the clip I have selected or have double clicked if all are selected.
I can Modify>copy filter> 2 ahead, but how do I apply that color correction to all the clips?
    Thanks

FCP Forum probably better spot for this one.
Anyways it should work across the board, that said, however, unless the clips are all pretty much matched well, color correction settings for one clip will not be the same as other clip, what I usually do is save the general settings as favorites, drop them on a clip then check each clip for any further tweaks

  • Video filter viewing

How can I view video filter changes? F'rinstance if I want to use a cylinder distortion, if I apply the filter, the preview is covered by the filter slider dialog. I want to see the changes to the image as I make them.
    Thanks from SF

Put the clip on the Timeline. Double click it to bring it into the Viewer. Apply the filter there. You should be able to see teh clip in the Canvas. Also, in the Viewer, you can switch between Filter and View settings by clicking the tabs

  • Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE Numbers2

    Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE Numbers2
I Get this when i open a prodject that was exported from after effects

    Hi drumboy12,
    Welcome to the Forums.
It seems that you have applied any effects and filter on a Video or a File in the After Effects composition and then you Exported it as a Premiere Pro Project and those filters or effects are not present in Premiere Pro. Please use Dynamic link to send your project to Premiere Pro if you wish to use Premiere Pro with After effects.

  • 'Video Filter Missing' Exporting AE CS4 project into Premiere Pro CS4 project

    Hey guys,
I am new to Premiere and AE, and I just made a short little intro for my current project in After Effects using a couple different effects and such. When I go to export my AE project and make it into a Premiere Project file it will not let me open the project properly, it says:
    D:\Premiere Projects\AFC Title2.prproj
    Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE Exposure2
    Video Filter missing:  AE.ADBE Glo2
Video Filter missing:  AE.CC Particle World
How do I fix this? Can I get the video filters for Premiere so that it recognizes them?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Are you planning on editing the material you're moving from AE to PPro? Not that you can't, but that's sort of a backwards workflow (ie. usually you edit in PPro, and then move the sequence to AE for effects, etc.). Or are you just trying to export from PPro?
Do you have the Production Premium bundle? If so, you could use Dynamic Link to put your AE comp into a PPro timeline, without having to worry about missing filters. You could also render from AE, and then import the rendered movie into PPro.
Finally, you can make (most of) the Cycore effects work in Premiere; this includes Particle World. Simply copy the AEX plugins from the After Effects program folder, into the Premiere Pro program folder (you'll have to dig into a couple of subfolders to find the effects). You'll then have access to most of them in Premiere Pro, though they don't all work the same in the PPro interface. The other two are, I believe, AE-only plugins, and are locked to that program--they won't work in PPro, no matter what.

  • Best video filter to dim part of a slide

I want to make most of a graphic (imported PowerPoint slide) dimmer, so that just one line of text on the slide appears bright.
What's the best video filter to use, and how to apply it?

I'm using Andy's Region Blur, but can't figure out how to make the majority of the slide tinted gray and one line of text remain white. I've tried invert, scaling, etc. -- nothing will do it.
    Any help?

  • Preset won't apply exposure change in Lightroom 5

Some of the commands (especially Exposure adds/removals) won't apply to the photo. Please help!

With your theory in mind of it being a permissions problem, I went ahead and moved my Looks from an external drive to my computer.  Still no dice.  Although, do you believe that it might need to be in a particular place on my computer?  Like say, a SpeedGrade folder inside and Adobe folder inside my library folder?  I don't see why that would matter.  I found a rather time consuming fix.  If I open the Look in After Effects, I can apply it to the video clip but that's just a little convoluted.
I'll keep searching for a solution and post any updates.  Thanks for your help thus far!
