Bad video orientation

Hi
Got my iPhone 3gs a week ago.
Today something went wrong with playing videos. The thing won't correct the video orientation when held vertically. Horizontally is fine. I can turn it upside down and it will correct the view. But vertically, no. It just stays horizontal.
What should I do?
Thanks.

Umm I'm afraid I can't answer that. For some reason you can't access the iTunes store from Israel.

  • Still bad video quality

even is catalyst cs 5.5 two of my problems do not resolve.
bad video quality in fullscreen. i have some videos for offline view (768x576 @ 2600 kbps) but still fullscreen view is messed up, all blocky, not proper video interpolation. in vlc or any other player the flv file looks fine!
the videos also have a 4:3 ratio and show white borders in fullscreen on a 16:9 screen in letterbox, how can make the borders black?
    is there any solution?

    Hi
    as example
Creating a PAL movie in iMovie HD 6 then import this into a NTSC iDVD project
    • Works but with a losy quality
I do use JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 and let this do the PAL to NTSC conversion
Now burned as an NTSC iDVD project
    • Best result possibly without buying PRO-applications for $$$$$$$
This way should work the other way around too.
Most modern PAL DVD-players can playback NTSC (if TV is old in Bl/W)
Most modern NTSC DVD-players can't playback PAL
If playbacked on a Mac PAL or NTSC is of no interest.

  • Improving bad video ?

Somebody knows out there an app that is able to enhance a bad video like a 3GP for instance ?
Something smart enough that is able to do the trick and add quality by extrapolating between 2 frames or 2 lines for instance ?

You can use sharpening tools like Unsharp Mask.  You can use third party up-rezzing tools to increase size with better quality.
But, realistically, given you only have a camera recording of a video screen of the CCTV, it's very unlikely you'll ever extract much meaningful detail from it.  Don't believe TV shows, image enhancement is not really so advanced.
Personally, I'd just extract the best still frame of their faces you can find, then use Photoshop to zoom and enhance as much as you can with Unsharp Mask.

  • How can I edit pictures (red eye) and camera-made videos (orientation)?

How can I edit pictures (red eye) and camera-made videos (orientation)? The pictures are now in my documents, taken from another laptop. Apple has automatically orientated photos, but not the videos. I've looked at past messages on red eye, but cannot even highlight an area, as suggested in the answers. Need I put the pictures etc in another folder in order to edit?

Use iphoto for the photos and iMovie for the video.

  • Video Orientation Question

I recorded a video using my iphone in one orientation (portrait style) but when I play it on my computer it plays sideways. Peoples heads point west and their feet point east. How can i get it to play normally on my computer? I now know that in the future I must always record lanscape style but I really want to use one of the videos I've already recorded. Is there any way to salvage it?

I venture to say your computer is a Windoze PC.
If so, which video viewing app are you using?
The video orientation is included with the video's EXIF data, which the Windows video viewer ignores - at least with photos so I assume the same with video.

  • Video orientation exclusion

Hallo. I use my iPhone 5s in portrtait lock. When it is time to watch a video in Facebook or safari I have to switch the orientation lock off. Is there a way to exclude QuickTime from the portrait lock and set it permanently to landscape?
    Thank you.

  • Bad Video in FCP Canvas Window. Normal?

When I am scrubbing through the Canvas Window, I am get lots of distorted video. I posted a couple of screen captures to my Mobile Me gallery as examples.
    http://gallery.me.com/jay.sims#100398
I am running a 27" Core i5 with 8 GB of RAM and 512 MB of video RAM.
I just recently upgraded to this current iMac from a '07 24" iMac. I did not have these issues with my old iMac, so now I am worried I may have a bad video card on my hands.
I have the most recent updates to FCP 7 installed.
    Any ideas?

I have posted screen captures of my Sequence settings and clip properties in the gallery I linked to above.
I do not have exact answers yet for what is happening in the Viewer window or QuickTime Player. I tried scrubbing through a clip in the View window, but FCP crashed before I could see any results. I have not fully test QuickTime player yet.
I can add that this problem only seems to occur while scrubbing. Simply playing video in the Canvas window does not yield any bad results and everything looks fine.
Also, I moved all FCP folders and media to a different drive. That did not correct the issue.
And I have discovered that once the issues occurs I cannot render any video. Attempting to render video results in the message "Error! Out of memory.", which I assume is not a good sign.

  • How to maintain audio continuity with segments of bad video

Anyone have any editing tricks for keeping good audio footage when there are interspersed segments of poor quality video? For example, I have 10 min of contiguous audio that I don't want to disrupt. Halfway through, however, I moved to camera to a different perspective and the time during the movement is nauseating footage of the floor. Obviously the pros using multiple cameras could simply splice in footage from another camera for the time period during which the main camera had bad video footage. I'm only using one camera, however. Any tricks for keeping the audio intact, but 'hiding' segments of bad video? fade in and out of a photograph/still image? maybe I need a good reference for video editing. thanks in advance for any/all thoughts.

Always shoot a bit of 'spare' footage at the beginning, and whenever there's an opportunity (..I know this is being wise after the event, but it may be of help for next time..) ..e.g; if it's a wedding, shoot guests arriving, or people sitting attentively, or bits of the building (..stained glass windows, etc..) ..or if it's a theatre or a play, ditto ..so you've got relevant, related bits which you can drop in during camera moves.
As Karsten and Beverly say, by using "Paste Over at Playhead" to insert extra material on top of the audio, you automatically keep the sync between picture and sound, because iMovie removes exactly the same length of original video as the length which you're "pasting in" to replace the bad footage ..thus keeping sync.
If you don't have "..a photograph/still image.." to drop in, you could always create a still from some of your video footage (put the Playhead where you want it, then use ShiftApple'S' to Create Still Frame), maybe soften it or crop it a bit so that it doesn't look exactly like a frame from the video, then do another couple of similar stills, dissolve between them, and then use that set of stills/dissolves to replace your bad footage.*
'Paste Over at Playhead' is the way to keep it in perfect sync without having to desperately calculate timings, etc..
*P.S: It's best to Export that sequence of stills-with-dissolves to QuickTime as 'Full Quality' so that it becomes one whole Clip, then re-import it, and that way you can position it exactly where you want it, without any of its separate components (stills, dissolves) coming apart, or being interpreted as individual elements.

  • Bad video/good audio--slideshow?

I took a video of my daughter's high school musical. The audio came out fine but the video isn't so good. I'd like to take some still photos that I have and merge them with the audio from the camera to make a slide show. Can anyone walk me through the process?

If what you want to do is have the video continue running but put photos over some of the bad video, follow these instructions from iMovie Help:
Inserting video clips or photos in a passage while maintaining running audio
You can paste a new video clip or photo over an existing clip while retaining the audio from the original clip. The video cuts away to a new picture, but you continue to hear the sound from the original clip.
To replace images in a clip while maintaining running audio:
Choose iMovie HD > Preferences, and then click General.
Select the "Extract audio when using Paste Over at Playhead" checkbox.
Select the video or photo that you want to insert.
Choose Edit > Cut or Copy.
    Do one of the following:
To paste the entire video you selected in step 3, position the playhead at the first frame to be replaced. When you paste the clip, it will replace a portion of video equal to its length.
To paste over a specific segment of your movie, select the part of the video clip you want to paste over. (To learn more about selecting part of a video clip, see Related Topics below.)
If the video you're pasting is longer than the selected frame range, the excess video will not be pasted. If the video you're pasting is shorter than the selected frame range, the extra space will be filled with a color clip (or the still image, if you paste a still image).
Choose Advanced > "Paste Over at Playhead."
The audio track of the original video is retained and appears in audio track 1 of the timeline viewer.
This should give you a nice smooth movie with interspersed photos with the video.
Be patient, the extraction of the audio may take a while!
If you want to ENTIRELY replace the video and just keep the audio, you have a couple of methods.
    1. Extract the audio from the entire movie. May take a while. Then, delete the video track, keeping the extracted audio track. Add your photos to the video track, adding transitions, adjusting the timing of the photos.
    2. Share the audio as an AIFF file, create a slideshow in iPhoto and use the audio track as your music for the slideshow. Start by selecting 'Share' to QuickTime, then choose compress movie for 'Expert Settings.' Then 'Share' and when the next window (save exported file as) appears, go to the dropdown menu buttons. For Export: select 'Sound to AIFF' and for Use: 'Default Settings.'
Just the audio will be saved as an audio file.
Then, open a new iMovie project, choose timeline view, drag in the audio file, and add your photos. You will have to see what effect you want with transitions, timing of the photos, Ken Burns effects, etc.
If you want to be very professional and actually sync the audio to the photos in some systematic way, have a look at Karl Petersen's thorough explanation here
Good luck....sorry that the original video was not good :_(

  • 5230 video orientation stuck (sideways)

I just got this 5230 and I cannot get the video to re-orient straight up and down and not horizontally. Other times other apps get stuck in one position or the other. In other words, I am having some orientation issues! Anyone know how to make it more sensitive to my hand position (vertical or horizontal). Also I have a real problem seeing it outdoors... any solutions?

  • Bad Video Ram? N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II

I noticed that in games, and in youtube videos, there would be pixellated patches that were off-color.  I noticed some that were tinted red, and others tinted yellow.  So I opened up GIMP's color picker and indeed there were two off-color lines of improperly tinted colors forming an x in the middle of the color picker.  Because this appears to be a purely display problem, I couldn't take a screenshot of the problem, so I took a photograph of my monitor.
    http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/694/picture001vn.jpg
The refresh distortion makes it a bit hard to see, but there's definitely an "x" shaped distortion running through the center.
Now that I'm halfway through writing this response, however, the problem seems to have spontaneously fixed itself. It's been only a few hours after I first noticed it.  I'm wondering, could it be related to some other problems I've been having?  I've been having issues on and off for the past few months.  For example, after reading this article, I've seen all of the problems illustrated in the first three images at least once.  I've seen much fewer problems after getting brand new drivers a few months back, but I've still had problems here and there.  Usually it'll work fine, but occasionally the screen will freeze for two seconds during a game, then all the textures in the game will shuffle themselves around.  At this point, spiking sometimes appears, and the problems will persist until I either restart or the computer crashes.
This card is only a few months old.  Am I right in thinking the video ram is defective?

Can you show how it should look to compare it to yours?
Also it could be some kind of monitor issue, have you tried with other one?
I apologize that imageshack seems to have drastically lowered the quality of my images.  It does seem very hard to distinguish between what's refresh distortion from taking a photo of a computer, what's jpeg artifacts, and what's the actual issue, but I assure you the problem is still visible.
    Here's how it should look
    http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3350/picture003wt.jpg
Here's a copy of the original picture with the 'x' shaped lines emphasized.  I have drawn arrows pointing to the problem, which manifests as two straight diagonal lines forming an 'x' across the color picker.
    http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/3558/linesx.jpg
I'll point out that this problem appeared to be linked to specific colors.  I noticed it in both 2D images and 3D games.  The photo is just there to show that with all the available colors displayed on a color picker, the problem manifested itself in a distinct pattern relative to some colors.
And no, I haven't tried it with another monitor.  Like I said, the problem spontaneously fixed itself halfway through writing the original post so I couldn't test it.  I'm posting here mainly because it's the third video problem I've seen so far that's been listed in this article as a symptom of bad video ram.  Of course it's hard to isolate these problems because they seem to come and go.  Occasionally it'll get really bad, then after a restart it'll be fine for a week or two.

Also check cables and connections, especially if you use VGA - digital cabling shouldn't be impacted.
I'm using a DVI connector, so no VGA.

  • Bad video quality of final product when viewing on computer in full screen

It looks like a picture does when you blow it up and it's a low quality image. Everything I'm reading says the problem would be with the video capture...but I have the same bad quality when I'm viewing the menu! Around all the text on the menu, it's fuzzy and same with my video on the menu. So are my video clips in the movie itself.
I have tried playing it on Windows Media Player, the apple DVD program, and WinDVD and I get the same problem when I view it on full screen.
I assume my family will mostly be playing it on a TV. Do you think it will play properly or worse on a TV? I don't actually have a DVD player myself to test it out. Any suggestions on why this could be happening?
    Thanks!

when I started using iDVD, one of the hardest adjustments for me to make was video quality on TV screen vs on computer screen. (I am used to satellite to S-Video TV and HD screens on my computer.)
My camera it a miniDV, and playback via SVideo to an Svideo TV screen is awesome.
I was sorely disappointed when I played the same tape back on the computer. It was grainy/fuzzy, etc. Same with the DVD I made.
But when I played the DVD back on the TV, the image quality was the same as when I connected the camera to the TV - crisp, sharp, video and text.
I've since burned numerous DVDs, and the result is always the same - blah on the computer, sharp on the TV.
As someone else in this thread stated, the average TV is low-res compared to the computer screen.
If I recall the spec correctly, standard NTSC is 240 line, SVideo is up to 500 line. HD is 720 line and higher...ergo an NTSC source is roughly 1/2 the resolution of the typical CPU screen, or 1/3 the resolution of low end HD screens. So yes, NTSC output on your computer screen will always be fuzzy compared to your TV screen.
I think you will likely be very pleased with the DVD when you playback on your TV.

  • Flashing Pixels (Bad Video) Apple please help!

I read another topic about this (which has been archived without being answered) POST: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1174473
I have these incessant flashing Green/blue pixels in windows through boot camp which makes it intolerable to use. It does this with the built in display but not with the extended display which I use on 270 degree orientation so I can't use that instead.
Seems to be a huge number of people in that post with this complaint and my situation fits it exactly. It used to work fine and at some point (not sure which update exactly due to infrequent use at the time) it went bad. Nothing I do will fix it. I've even wiped the HD, repartitioned, reinstalled windows on boot camp and then restored my OSX with Time Machine... Allot of hassle for no results. Only saving grace was Time Machine with the OSX side of that effort.
I want to know why apple refuse to even comment on this and maybe offer some thoughts on this? Maybe a fix even? Instead of locking the topic and shutting us up instead of working with us. What's next? A cover up to hide the fact? Maybe Apple should just delete the complaints from the support forums.
Apple, please help, this is beyond tolerable and I need boot camp for a couple of Windows Only apps. If I had a choice I would defiantly use OSX versions.
Just a side not. When I wiped the HD and went to reinstall form the backup the OSX installer recognized the destination and source but refused to run the restoration. I shut the whole thing down and started again and it worked fine.
    Apple please help!

I'm having the same problem, I thought that Leopard's Boot Camp would fix it but it didn't work.

  • Bad video...columns of small white dots, pixelation

Can anyone help me...i've had the apple tv for some time and now i get inconsistent video quality. Just started several months ago. white dot columns, pixilation are the problems, any suggestions?

I have the same problem with mine starting tonight, and I'm pretty sure the internal video card is going bad.
I bought mine years ago during the first few days after the ATV was released. It was running OS 3.02 as of tonight. When I "restore" it installs version 1.0, but the "dots or lines in video problem" is still seen in the menus. And after the restore it started to lock up randomly, with nothing on it, just by going through the menus.
I'm leaving it unplugged to see if the problem is over-heating, but it's not any hotter than usual.
