Bad wifi after screen replaced

Hi. I recently got the screen on my ipad 2 replaced at a local independent repair shop as it had been cracked for a while. Since then the wifi has been awful and disconnects if you're literally more than 4 foot from the router. I took it back to the shop and explained the problem and i'd read online how the antenna can sometimes get damaged while changing the screen, (i hope that's right?). They fobbed me off telling me I should contact my ISP about the wifi, (although as i have 4 other devices in the house with no wifi problems at all, and the wifi on my ipad was fine before taking it in for the screen replacment, is i'm pretty sure this isn't the problem), he also said I need to update my ipad to the latest iOS which will also fix any bugs, i did that but it made no different so he eventually agreed to change the antenna for me. I picked it back up today was told the problem has now been sorted, but I still have the same problem - the only place I can use the wifi is sat right next to the router. I'm reluctant to take it back to the shop again as he swears blind there is no problem, probably cos hes stood right next to his router!! Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem?

One thing to try before you take it back. Try to power cycle your router. Unplug it, count to ten, plug it back in and let it reboot.
You can also try to go into the settings and reset network settings, which will force you to reconnect and re-enter your wifi password and info.
If that doesn't sort it then it's more fuel to the fire that he did something when he replaced the screen. Unfortunately, unless the person you used was an authorized apple service provider, you may not have any options left with Apple. They generally wash their hands of any devices serviced by anyone that's not authorized.
When you take it back, try to replicate the issue. Make him walk to the other side of the store, or go outside. See if it replicates there.

How to fix white screen of death on iPod 4g after screen replacement?

I would try to reset it before anything else.  To do this press and hold the home and power buttons until the the white screen shows the apple logo (~ 15 secs.).
If this does not work then more than likely the LCD is damaged.
btw- The white screen is common after repairs.  The reset fix works 90% of the time.

  • Wi-Fi not working a few months after screen replacement.

    Hi all,
Recently bought a used iPhone, and the previous (original) owner had the screen replaced after dropping it. Apparently, the phone was working absolutely perfect after the screen was replaced, and then a few months after, the wi-fi stopped working. Everything else in the phone is working perfectly fine.
I'm guessing this is probably just a loose connection or something, but could someone give me a possible cause?
    Thanks!

My wife had the same problem with iPad 2 after upgrade to 6.0. Don't know if it was important but she had NOT upgraded to iTunes 10.7. I ended up doing a DFU restore and then restored software (still IOS 6.0) and then a iCloud restore and everything was fine with the WiFi . Restoring all music and photos now.

  • MacBook Pro Freezing After Screen Replacement

I recently took my MBP in to get the screen replaced due to a screen separation issue. When I got it back it froze every now and then, but it kept continuing. Everytime I restart the computer after a freeze it will freeze up sooner and sooner. At first I thought it was a RAM issue since it particularly did it while watching videos, so I bought new RAM and it continued to freeze. Tested the new and the old RAM, but they were fine. I took it to the Genius Bar and the guy said it was a failing harddrive. Got a new harddrive upgraded to Lion and it is still freezing. I asked if something could have gone wrong when the screen was replaced and he assured me no and even if something had gone wrong they wouldn't cover it unless the actual screen was broken.
If I leave the computer off for a day it will take about 30 min before the 1st freeze, then after restart about 15 min, then 10 min, then 5 min until it will only log in then freeze.
Any guesses as to what could be causing the freezing and if it would be worth fixing as this MBP needs a new battery, a new drive (since the drive is on loan), and has the flickering screen issue?

    Screen Replaced Jan 8, 2012

Thanks for the reply. As an update, I took it into the Apple store again and it froze while they were trying to run the test. This time the guy said it was covered by the repair warrenty. After 2 weeks without a computer because something was wrong with the graphics cards they called me back and said they were just going to give me a late 2011 mid-range MBP. So I currently have a brand new MBP with no issues
Yeah... 3.5 years and they just release that fix for flickering screens. I hope it works for everyone. I know some people had some major issues with it.

  • Iphone won't power on after screen replacement

So I've dropped my Iphone 4S once and screen showed blue vertical lines. I replaced the screen for about $120. After 6 months or so I dropped it again and the screen cracked. I decided to replace the screen on my own so I got a new one and replaced it, but the phone doesn't power on after the screen replacement. I plugged it on charger, did a hard reset but still nothing. I plugged it on pc and it was recognized by the itunes! As it was plugged on pc, I did a reboot again and it left itunes as if it was powered on and suddenly powered off. Still plugged in I tried to power it on again, it was recognized again by the itunes but the screen still wasn't working. Another thing is that it burns a lot without even being on charger or on pc, and I need to take the battery off.

Sorry. There's not much we can suggest. Apple won't touch that phone now.
Try looking for advice someplace like ifixit.com.

  • What do I do if my iPod touch 8g 4g has a white screen after screen replacement ? I tried holding down the volume up button, the power button, and the home button all at the same time but my screen just went black and it wont turn on.

it just wont turn on after repair on the screen

If it never worked after the screen replacement then it would appear that you have a hardware problem either caused by the repair or the problem that lead to the screen replacement.

  • IPod Touch 4g white screen after screen replacement.

I tried all the possible methods to reset the iPod which are; Vol up+ home button+ Power button, home and power button for 10-30 secs. Nothing works for me. Any help guys..!!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem. Could be related to/caused by the screen replacement.

  • Lost Vibration after Screen Replacement 1520

    Hi All,
I went to a Nokia Care Centre and did replace the screen after crack happened to the old one. Noticed the Vibration  more precisely the haptic feedback is not working at all. Took it back to them and apparently they checked everything and found all function OK. Did a hard reset but sadly nothing changed.
Now, I'm lost, I don't know if that is a software issue or a hardware damage caused by the Nokia Care Centre's technician!!!
I need to be guided please,
    Thank You.

This just happened to me!!!!! I had my screen replaced by Palco about a month ago. When i got it back, all was well--except no vibration. The haptic feedback on the home button, etc. was not nearly as bothersome as the fact that I cannot put my phone on vibrate now because it does nothing to alert me of calls and texts. I have to have my sound on 100% of the time and that is annoying!
I don't want to send it all the way back for more repairs, but I think I may have to. Pretty lame "repair" by Palco. Cost for replacing the screen was half what others charged, but they ended up cracking the polycarbonate and breaking the vibra motor.

  • IPod Touch 4G after Screen Replacement

My daughter's 3 month old iPod Touch 32 GB got stepped on, and the screen was smashed to smithereens. I got a replacement screen from an eBay seller for $30, but found the digitizer cable too fragile, so it broke. That was after spending a LOT of time with it. I ordered a new white screen from another place, for $75. After careful work, the screen was on, and working. Problem is, my on/off button doesn't work. I was careful not to mess with that section. I read that a lot of buttons die off. Was mine coincidence? Also, the camera works fine, and then the next time I try to fire it up, I get a blank dark screen. I can try this again, and it works, then it doesn't. Is this a common issue? With the next iOS fix both of my concerns? I know that the warranty is toast, and I'm on my own. Have any of you found the same issues with your screen replacements?
    Thanks
    T

FrankenPod still works, except the camera doesn't start up every time, and the sleep button is still broken. I hope the next update magically repairs it!

  • IPad Glitch After Screen Replacement

I had my iPad screen replaced and just got it back today. It turns on okay and is useable... a little. It refuses to let me open certain apps.(ex. App Store) When i type, sometime the ipad wont let me press certain letters or links. I have tried turning the ipad off completely and have reset my settings. Nothing seems to work. I can't tell if my LCD has been damaged or not conected correctly. I use this iPad for school so i need help ASAP.

If you have Restored it both from your backup and as a new device and it still does not work then it is indeed a hardware issue. It could be a defective salvaged screen/digitizer or the logic board.

  • Macbook air will not boot 10.5.7 after screen replacement

    Hello
Following screen replacement on original macbook air I can only take system to 10.5.6.  Will not update to 10.5.7 or 10.6.
    Any suggestions?
    GeorgeV

BTW, I see the threads on the Thunderbolt update kernel panics.  I was kind of hoping Apple resolved the problem since I thought they had pulled the update.  Anyway, I do not *think* I am getting a Kernel panic as the boot does not even get as far as the Apple logo.  It just sits on the gray screen and does nothing.

  • No 3G after screen replacement

    Hello everyone!
Basically, I have a white iPhone 4. It's out of warranty, and the screen broke, so i got it replaced, however ever since my signal keeps on dropping (i seemed to have fixed it by resetting network settings) but when i put it in my pocket and take it out, it's always searching for network. However that's not my problem, ever since i got the screen replaced my 3G doesn't work, it doesn't detect 3G at all and it's all enabled. I tested my sim in my other phone and 3G works fine, i did let the shop know who replaced my screen so they will be looking into it, however i wanted to find out how much an out of warranty iphone would cost if i took this to apple?
    Thanks!

Go back and talk to whoever replaced the screen. An out of warranty replacement from Apple is no longer an option for you. Apple won't touch it.

  • W700 Win7 x64 blue screen after screen replacement

Hopefully somebody has a solution for this issue. Recently I sent my W700 in for a screen replacement and when I received it back, I installed my HD (Win7 x64 Ultimate) and the system would blue screen.
I tried all the different start up options and all failed with a blue screen
The blue screen goes away so fast I cannot see what it is telling me
Sometimes as it is attemption to boot I will see a screen that states "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"
I attempted a repair and see the following (the repair fails)
    Windows Boot Mgr
    ID 9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795
    Startup option will be added
    Name: Win Recovery Env (Recovered)
    Path: Recovery\103c3ec-e604-11de-a4f7-8c999d1797b9\Winre.wim
    Windows Device: Partition-E476835 MB)
A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as D:\Boot\BCD.Backup.0001
I click Repair & Restart, the system blue screens when it boots
In that I was using my "production disk" I switched to the previous Win7 x64 Ultimate drive I had in the system - same failure and results with this drive as well
I then switched to the Vista drive that was in the system when I received it 0 same failure and results with this drive as well
I then installed a new 500GB drive and started a new build - this worked but I'm having trouble getting Outlook x32 2010 to work with my previous Outlook.pst file
I've restored the MBR and the 100MB partition on one of my Win7 drives using the MBR and 100MB partition from the new working drive - still I get the blue screen.
I need one of two solutions (as I see it)
Get my production Win7 x64 drive working (this is the drive that blue screens)
Get the new HD with the new Win7 build working with Outlook.
I've talked to the support center they don't know what is going on but offered to ship the W700 back and look at it. If they could not resolve the issue they would reimage the HD. This is not an acceptable solution. I already know that if I rebuild the HD it will work.

  • Wifi doesn't work after screen replacement

My husband was gracious enough to replace the screen on my ipad 2. However, now, I can't connect to wifi unless I'm right next to the router. The antenna needs alot of signal to see any network. He verified the antenna isn't broken. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Weak WiFi after antenna replacement

I recently replaced the screen on my iPad 4.  When doing this I damaged the WiFi antenna.  After ordering a new antenna and replacing it the WiFi is very weak.  The only time it will connect is if the iPad is sitting right next to the router.  Any ideas?

Either the antenna is bad or it isn't installed correctly or some damage has been done to other components.
