Bad wifi performance

I am having an issue with my wifi. I somehow have horrible wifi reception (sometimes I cannot connect like 3-5 metres away. Are there any possible soultions as I have also discussed this on crackberry and yet to find a solution that works. I've tried hard reset, wipe, changing the wifi band, restarting the router etc.

  • Bad wifi card macbook?

I use a late 2008 MacBook. My wireless internet connection seems to time out and slow dramatically from time to time. If I turn the airport off and then back on, it seems to get it going again. I use ATT U-verse and our connection is typically extremely fast but lately the speed has been intermittent and won't load webpages. However, when I connect my computer directly to the router via ethernet cable, the speed is constant and the problem goes away. Is this a sign of a bad wifi card?

Not necessarily...if the card failed, you'd most likely not be able to use it at all. Which protocol are you using to connect? It may be useful to delete the current network 'location' and recreate to see if that helps.

  • Compaq F764CA & Windows 7 Upgrade = bad battery performance

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem.  I upgraded my wife's laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate and while there were some drivers from Vista required to work things out, I have noticed that her laptop battery performance has gone from an average of 2hours with Vista to only 20 minutes under Win7.  There is even a little red cross on her battery system tray icon and hovering over it brings a message that I should install a new battery.  This system is only 1.5 years old so I find the battery issue odd.
Suffice it to say, she is not too impressed so far.  The official word from HP is that her laptop will not be supported for Windows 7 which means no official updated drivers.  I don't understand how HP can say this for a 2 year old computer.
So any suggestions as to what I can do to help make the battery last longer than 20 minutes when it's not plugged in?  If there are no Vista equivalent drivers then I might be stuck and will have to downgrade back to Vista.
Thanks for any tips or advice.

Well, you will not like my next comment.  I think the next step is to expect a motherboard problem.  Since this problem has been known about for so long, I was hoping the manufacturers had solved this BUT you system is rather old.  Google "bad caps" for symptoms it you are really interested but that would be my next avenue to explore.  Strange things happen when those "caps" at first deteriorated to the point of failure.  Once they get more age, stranger things will happen or it will just finely fail.  Changing the OS will not solve the problem.
You said in your first post "This machine had Windows XP installed but since the End of Support i have been having problems".  I think your problems were not linked to the EOL of WinXP, unfortunately.

  • Really bad wifi reception after upgrade to 10.6.7

    Hey.
to make a long story short - after installing 10.6.0 on a MacBook2,1 (i think "mid-2007") everything's ok - but if i upgrade to 10.6.7 (either with built-in software-update or downloaded combo-update) the WiFi reception is really bad. in numbers -50dBm with 10.6.0 vs. -82dBm runnin 10.6.7 (everything on a clean system and exact the same location in the room) i tried it with two different networks both Linksys WRT54 routers running dd-wrt and openwrt.
    i don't know what i can do -.-

I don't know for sure that it will help but it won't hurt to reset the SMC.
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Bad wifi signal iphone 5

    Hi
After update 7.0.6 vy iphone 5 have troubles with wifi signal. Update 7.1 and 7.1.1 dosent remove this problem.
Reset network settings and hard reset and full recovery has not remove that bug.
What i need to do to resolve my problem?

    Shawn,
It sounds like this is an issue with your surroundings.  It doesn't seem to show the characteristics of a faulty card.
In general the 5GHz band isn't going to be great for distance use with a wireless router.  If you are trying to connect with the router outside of your house, then it's probably not going to show up.  5GHz doesn't travel well through walls either, so that could be an issue if you have lots of walls in your house.  Having a weak signal could also mean that your house paint or materials in the house may be bad for letting the 5GHz signal through.
If none of those apply, then there could be a problem with your router.  I would try fiddling with the settings on the router a bit and see what happens.  If it's still under warranty call the manufacturer, and they may be able to hook you up with a solution.  Another thing to try would be to connect to another 5GHz network if possible.  If the problem still persists I would try resetting all network settings (settings>general>reset>reset network settings), bearing in mind that this will delete all networks that you have connected to, and require you to put in all of your wireless network passwords again.  Don't worry about doing so though, it won't delete any data (music, videos, books, etc.) or any other settings that don't pertain to wireless network settings.
If none of the above solutions work for you, as a last resort you could either call up AppleCare, or head into the nearest Apple Store, and they should be able to help you out.
    Hope this helps,
    Ryan

  • MBP and missing Airport network, bad wifi in MBP?

I have a 15" MBP, 2.2GHz model 3,1. Up until yesterday, I've had an Airport N network running without fault. Yesterday, the computer couldn't find the network, although the Macbook sitting next to it had no problem connecting. I completely reset the configuration on the router, rebooted the MBP, but it still only recognized my wifi network intermittently. By the time I would try to connect to it again it would be gone and I would get timeouts. The Macbook is able to connect to the network, run the Airport Utility, etc. just fine. Any ideas?

I've been following all these threads hoping for some solution, but the fact seems to be that the MBP's airport function is just dismal, and I find that the bad network performance has a knock on effect into all sorts of other performance aspects as the poor computer struggles to maintain a connection.
How dismal? Well, I was reconfiguring my network for the nth time yesterday and ended up with an iMac and the MBP literally side by side on a desk and equidistant (about 2 ft) from a Time Capsule. The screen grab at this link clearly shows the laptop (MAC ending :25) at half the rate and half as good signal/noise as the iMac.

I'm seriously thinking of going retro and running an ethernet cable to my desk. The world was much better then.

  • Download wp 8.1 over bad wifi

Hello! I wanted to ask a serious question. When the time comes for me to download windows phone update 8.1 , i am going to download it from a wifi connection that sometimes loses internet connection for a minute or so. Since as ive heard the update is around 1.8 gb, is the update going to keep installing 1-1:30 minute after the internet connection comes back on? I dont want to have any problem, or lose my lumia's software, so im asking so as if its serious to download the update from a different wifi if possible.
Also , could you tell me if you know when wp 8.1 is coming out on Greece for lumia 520 on Vodafone?
    Lumia 520

well not saying that isn't true, but i am saying that if it keeps losing connection the phone may eventually just give up and cancel the download. now cancelling the download wouldn't be such a bad thing if the phone cached the download so it wouldn't have to go back to the start all of the time. you run this risk by downloading over such a flaky connection.

  • Bad WiFi reception

    Hey!
I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum wich included a WiFi card. With the included antenna, I get a horrible reception. I get a low to very low reception in one area where I get 90% with my laptop with built-in antenna! Is there something wrong with my antenna, is it just a bad antenna, or is there something wrong with the PCI-card? What can I do to improve reception??
    Thank you for all help!!!

got the same problem, if you want you can build a custom antenna (blueprint on the web) that can help. For me i just got a Wireless accesspoint, case solved... last time that i buy a board with integrated "solutions"

  • Poor Wifi Performance on X200/5300AGN

I have a Lenovo X200 with an Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN wireless adapter. I have it hooked up to a Netgear 802.11n access point that operates in the 5Ghz band. The Netgear access point acts as one side of a bridge too, and I can consistently get ~90mbits/sec of bandwidth on the other side of the bridge. And, when I hook up my Macbook Pro it tops out around ~80mbits/sec. But the Lenovo X200 tops out at only 50mbits/sec.
Is there anything I can do to improve performance? Or, it this just a matter of the number of functional antennas in the X200? Apparently the 5300AGN card is suppose to support 3 receiving antennas, but the X200 only has 1 or 2 antennas hooked up.

  • Poor WiFi performance of Yoga 2 11?

I have just purchased a Yoga 2 11 and find that connectivity is poor (zero to two bars) and unreliable (occasionally reverting to a yellow exclamation point)  in my favorite thinking chair. I get reasonable performance at the same location from other machines including a T420, a Nexus 7, and an IPad. After reviewing some community forum fixes for the presumably Yoga 2 Pro, I have checked to ensure that I have the most recent driver; that I have turned off bluetooth; that I am not using protected sharing; that windows is not managing the wifi Plus I have installed on the order of 33 windows updates (a pretty large number considering this is right out of the box on the first day of availability!). Am I missing anything or is this a problem related to something unfixable like the antenna design? Other potentially connected diagnostic information is that some sites e.g. zillo do not load quickly behave very smoothly, even in locations with more than one "bar" of wifi connectivity. Thank in advance for any input.

I see the same poor wifi connection when comparing to my old laptop and to my Galaxy S4.  I updated the driver but it did not help (think it was the same one).  I have a week left for no hassle returns and if this cannot get resolved I think this unit has to go back.

  • A740 WiFi performance

I received an A740 last week and I'm very disappointed with the network / WiFi performance. So far the speed has shown no more than 29 Mbps but averages 14 Mbps - compare that to my Dell laptop which is constantly around the 78 Mbps mark, and the Microsoft Surface Pro which ranges between 39 and 78.
Every time I've attempted to join a conference call using Microsoft Lync the voice quality has been terrible or the call drops repeatedly, and I've ended up switching to the laptop to complete the call.
I bought this A740 based on it's top-of-the-specs to work from home, but in terms of the network speed it's currently the worst device by far.

This community states "ThinkCentre A , M and Edge ThinkCentre small tower, desktop, and all in one models", the A740 is an all-in-one.
You say that the A740 is a consumer-grade product. It cost £1,300 and the WiFi performance is worse than the £200 Dell Venue 8 Pro and the £350 Surface RT. Is an i7 machine consumer-grade? I bought it to replace a 5 year old iMac and that never provided any Lync issues.
I e-mailed Lenovo support and told them that I'd tried upgrading the driver, and they replied suggesting that I upgrade the driver. Some help they were.

  • New ipad bad wifi connection?

Ive bought a new ipad today its gr8 apart from when i wish to connect to wifi
It shows that I have connected to my private network but then iam unable to access the internet is this something im doing wrong?

    Hi and welcome...
Not necessarily something you are doing wrong. Try restoring to default then restart your iPad.
Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Now restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.

  • More bad wifi... with a myspace twist! any ideas?

i'm one of the gazillions of people with touchy wifi on my new macbook. i have pretty good luck on public/open wifi networks, but when using my home network, i experience lots of the same problems that other users have been reporting here...
side note: my intel mac mini and power pc ibook all connect fine, even after 10.4.10.
what is most strange about this is that i am completely unable to look up any myspace pages on my home network (when the connection is working!). i work with a lot of bands and need to be able to access their myspace pages, and any time i need to access a myspace page on my macbook, it gets stuck in page loading mode.
while it 'loads,' i can crack open my trusty iBook and get the page in seconds.
thanks in advance to anyone who might know anything!

I just purchased a brand new macbook a few weeks ago and I also experienced this issue with the wi-fi and with myspace.
I downloaded Firefox and it still has the same error page when I try to access myspace.
This issue doesn't occur all the time, just every now and again. I found that if you create another user account within your computer and use that account to surf myspace it will let you in. totally weird!

  • Bad wifi after screen replaced

Hi. I recently got the screen on my ipad 2 replaced at a local independent repair shop as it had been cracked for a while. Since then the wifi has been awful and disconnects if you're literally more than 4 foot from the router. I took it back to the shop and explained the problem and i'd read online how the antenna can sometimes get damaged while changing the screen, (i hope that's right?). They fobbed me off telling me I should contact my ISP about the wifi, (although as i have 4 other devices in the house with no wifi problems at all, and the wifi on my ipad was fine before taking it in for the screen replacment, is i'm pretty sure this isn't the problem), he also said I need to update my ipad to the latest iOS which will also fix any bugs, i did that but it made no different so he eventually agreed to change the antenna for me. I picked it back up today was told the problem has now been sorted, but I still have the same problem - the only place I can use the wifi is sat right next to the router. I'm reluctant to take it back to the shop again as he swears blind there is no problem, probably cos hes stood right next to his router!! Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem?

One thing to try before you take it back. Try to power cycle your router. Unplug it, count to ten, plug it back in and let it reboot.
You can also try to go into the settings and reset network settings, which will force you to reconnect and re-enter your wifi password and info.
If that doesn't sort it then it's more fuel to the fire that he did something when he replaced the screen. Unfortunately, unless the person you used was an authorized apple service provider, you may not have any options left with Apple. They generally wash their hands of any devices serviced by anyone that's not authorized.
When you take it back, try to replicate the issue. Make him walk to the other side of the store, or go outside. See if it replicates there.

  • Video Chat: bad wifi connection after OS2.0 update

Hi, I have 4 playbooks, one for myself and three for my family living oversea. I bought three playbooks for my family for video chat. It worked fine (except huge e-mail problems=another issue) until I updated to OS2.0 one month ago. I have following problems after OS2.0 1) Video chat program cannot always on to wi-fi and to receptible the incoming calls. When I know I am receiving or calling, I have to restart playbook or / disconnect wifi and connect again to establish the wi-fi connection for the Video chat. (while I am having this problem I can use internet without problem) 2) When I was in the older OS before OS2.0 it did not have this problem. Once established the wifi connection, it does not disconnect wi-fi so soon like this new OS2.0. I need help for 1) Is there any way to solve this problem? for 2) I'd rather go back to my old OS system. I searched every where for the old OS (OS1?) but I could not find it. Please let me know how to go back to the old OS system. I appreciate your help. Thank you!

You can't, not without hacking it anyway and we don't go there.
There's just over a million playbooks working fine on 2.1 so I would look elsewhere for your problem. Try reinstalling 2.1 latest vis desktop.
