Baffled Following Crash - Files to Restore?
O Learned Denizens,
I find myself a bit bewildered.
Yesterday my MacBook Pro crashed. This alone is newsworthy, obviously. It just died as if all the electricity had vanished from inside the box. I'm guessing it's some kind of hardware fault caused by being inside a motorcycle pannier for 260 miles.
But that is by-the-by.
I was in a Lightroom session when it happened and, not terribly surprisingly, LR 1.3.1 (on OSX 10.4.11 - don't ask why I'm out of date, I don't care to discuss it) said the database was corrupted. I retreated to a backup and all is fine.
Except that Lightroom seems to have reverted back to some sort of really rather old setup.
For example:
- no longer ejects cards after import
- filigree swirly patterns at end of boxes
- no ratings under windows in Loupe view
Most of these are trivial and I've just fumbled around setting them back to what I want. More bafflingly, having exited and re-entered Lightroom several times since The Crash including creating a brand new database and reading in 1000 images from today (and working on them extensively) without issue, just now I exited and re-entered and LR behaved as if this was it's first time ever, taking me through the introductory dialog and all sorts.
This is all just a curiosity, really. Except that one thing is driving me berserk: when I come to export a web gallery I get a useless dialog box that gives me a very limited range of places to choose from. I can't find the normal OS dialog at all.
Can anyone tell me which files in the LR installation are likely to have been hurt by the crash so that I can restore them from backup?

I restored the preference files from backup and everything appears back to normal, even the dialog box issue.
Note that just deleting the preference file
i didn't
fix the dialog box problem.
It took a little time for me to find the preference file, as discussed in

Open Finder. Go to the "Go" menu in the menu bar. Press and hold Control and click on Library. Go to "Preferences". Find a file named, "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and delete that file. This won't delete your iTunes content. It will reset iTunes. Try it again.

I'm trying to get my old bookmarks installed with Firefox on a drive holding Win xp to Firfox installed on a different drive holding Win 7. I followed the backup and restore process in the Firefox help file but it doesn't work. Help will be appreciated because I have a slew of bookmarks that I would like to use with Win 7.
If you need to merge bookmarks then you need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file and import that file on the other computer.

My computer crashed and once restored I could only sync "purchased content". I dont want to lose over 500 songs. My ITunes file now only contained the "purchased content" items. My Ipod Touch still contains all the original music. HELP!! How can I download music from my IPod Touch and somehow get it into my computer (ITunes Lirbary)...... Can I down load my content to a computer that does not have ITunes installed?

After failing to update iphone OS, now iphone is in restore mode
Device Manager recognize USB is connected to iphone with Location: Location 0 (Apple Mobile device (recovery mode))
IPhone in "connect to itunes" screen
After connect to itunes, message "itunes has detected iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes." appear.
In Device -> iphone screen, after clicking "Restore" button, itunes status become "Extracting software..."
During extracting software process, iPhone change from "connect to itunes" screen to just "apple logo", then go back to "connect to itunes" screen; but at the same time device-iphone disappear from itunes; once itunes complete extracting software, error message comes out "The iphone "iphone" could not be restored. The device cannot be found"
Tried again few times with all USB device removed & turn off all the anti-virus software and all other non window / non-apple softwares; but same thing happened.
so now I'm stuck.... please help.after reading loads of forum, I didn't find anyone with the exact issue as mine. But I've followed some of the restore issue solution and now I've fixed my phone. Yeah! maybe not all the steps are necessary, but here was what I've done to fix it:
1. update itunes
2. Ensure Apple Mobile device driver is updated and work (i.e. iphones is detected in device manager)
3. run "msconfig", ensure all other non microsoft / non apple softwares are off
- Services: only enable all microsoft services, apple mobile device and bonjour service
- Startup: only enable QTTask & iTunesHelper
4. Restart computer
5 turn on itunes
6. connect iphones via USB.
7. itunes show iphone in device column, but iphone still stay in "connect to itunes" screen
8. Hold Sleep button + Home button until the screen goes dark (iphone disappear from itunes device column at the same time), then just keep holding the home button (without holding the sleep button)
9. first time, though itunes showa iphone in the device column again, but iphone screen go from apple icon straight to "connect to itunes" screen and stay there again.
10. I repeat step 8, this time though itunes show iphone in the device column again, but the iphone screen stay dark showing nothing (instead of showing "connect to iTunes" screen)
11. then I click restore in itunes, this time it manages to finish extracting software without iphone restarting itself during the process; itunes find the iphone and complete the restore.
12. As I do backup all the time, now I just need to sync all the files / setting back to iphone, everything back to normal again.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you get that "Well, this is embarrassing" window then that means that Firefox has crashed more than once and there should be a sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak file.

i backup my iphone on my pc and copy backup file into drive D then i setup new OS on my pc. after that i copy the backup file into itunes backup folder but itunes can't find the backup file to restore my iphone. how can i restore my iphone?

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer. -
My itunes files were deleted. I was able to use an old back up file to restore some but new downloaded purchases from iTunes for the past 5 months weren't in the back up. How do I get those back since I've paid for them one before? Can you redownload? If so, how?? Please help as I'm missing over 500 previously paid for and downloaded iTunes song purchases.
This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.

I followed the steps to restore to factory settings now I can't get back my info from a prior backup. My pads screen was frozen on the connect to iTunes I needed to restore. I had to setup my pad as if it was new. How do I acess my prior backup
Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes. -

Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro
I'm sure you've seen this before and I've tried to search for a thread on it here and fell asleep, so sorry if this is a repeat.
I have edited projects in Premiere Pro (on my PC) and I have tried to transfer them in FCP. It worked with the exception of two things:
1. the error message, "Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro"
2. the quality *****! watching it on the playback in FCP it looks great, but then when I burn it to Disc it's pixelated in spots and generally has a lower quality picture.
I know that it's Standard Def. and can't expect the best, but I've done it before (once or twice) and it didn't seem this bad.
Can someone suggest anything to help the quality? Should I run my AVIs through MPEG Steamclip to make it a QT file and if so what is the best format in that since there are many to choose from and most I'm not familiar with?

CraytonI did compress them to DV NTSC then burned it to DVD and the result was no bueno.
I thought what I would do is try compressing them again before I send them on over to DVDSPRO. Here is a simplified break down of the situation:
- I have edited the raw footage in Premiere Pro on my PC. They were recorded and captured as SD.
- I rendered them in Premiere, then transfered the rendered AVI file to FCP.
- When went to place the files in FCP, I received the warning message; "Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro" but I went forward anyways and it allowed me to do so.
- Originally I went ahead and compressed them from FCP to QT Movie as a DV NTSC, which ended up poorly.
- Therefore my question is, should I compress them using another file type (other then DV NTSC)? Which leads me to another program that I have called MPEG Streamclip, which offers tons of file types of which I am unfamiliar with most. I want the best quality of course but don't know what file type is the highest going from AVI to a format that can be accepted by FCP and ultimately DVDSPRO. Keeping in mind that I only have FCP5 and do not have Prores.
Did that make sense?

Did you try removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using:

In previous versions of firefox ( 28 and Earlier ) I was able to follow local file links by whitelisting them in the user preferences file as shown here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Links_to_local_pages_do_not_work
This functionality has ceased to work with the update.You might find a similar bug already posted, but if not, sure, others are going to have the issue.
I guess one question is implementation. What mechanism is replacing capability preferences? If there isn't something that general purpose, what kind of site-level permission could be relevant?
And if the need is not clear, what are the use cases for http:// to file:// access that the developers need to consider? Or is it for file:// to file:// access that's most critical? -

Try to reset the device:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally. -

Everything was fine: OS 10.3.9. G5, Dual Processor. Final Cut Pro 4.5 Updated both iTunes and QuickTime. Trouble! Longer clips wouldn't capture, batch or any method. So, I go back to QuickTime 6.5.2. That fixes the problem with capturing video clips.
