Baggage Files Gone AWAL in RH6

Hi all,
Recently I have experienced a problem in RoboHelp 6 under a
project that I have been working on for the past few years that has
not had any problems before. In trying to create a new baggage file
from an .xls source file from a network drive, the baggage file is
being created by RoboHelp to the source file of my project on my
local drive, however thet baggage file itself is not visually
appearing in the project manager pane in RH for me to link it to my
topics, any suggestions? I have attempted to rename the file about
4 times now and all of the renamed files are appearing in my
projects source file now as "unused files", however I still cannot
get the file to apper in project manager.
I was reading about looking at the rhbag.apj file and do not
see the baggage file that I attempted to create listed there, being
the file does now exist in the projects source file, could I just
manually add the same file name from the source file to the
rhbag.apj file manually in notepad?
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks, I went in and manually altered the rhbag.apj file in
notepad, saved it, then replaced the file in a backup copy of my
project's source file, launched it in RH, and the file is there.
I just have one more question now. Now that the file is
there, I went to batch generate the test project and I'm recieving
a RoboHelp HTML error window which reads
"The
parameter is incorrect", any thoughts on this one? I did not
alter my orignal project, however when I bring up the original
project I'm recieving the same error. I can generate the primary
layout, however when I attempt to just simply batch generate the
project I'm recieving the error upon clicking batch generate. Could
this be associated with a problem with the project not allowing my
baggage files to display to begin with, and now that I've fixed
that problem, the other problem is still there?
Thanks again!
Dan

  • Baggage Files keep disappearing

I am aware of the RH6 issue of the baggage files not being
able to be added the traditional way, and the user having to add
them manually in rhbag.apj file. I have done that and they do work
after that is done, but my problem is that they keep disappearing
after some time, and I will have to go in manually to add them
again. I add them, they work, and then after a couple days and a
couple compilations they are removed again and my link doesn't work
of course. Does anyone know a work-around to this, and how to make
them permanently stick? Or, am I to accept this nuisance and find a
different method for displaying these files? Any advice is greatly
    appreciated!
    Danni

I link to .pdf files from the TOC with no problem.
    Danni, you mention,
"...and the user having to add them manually in rhbag.apj
    file."
I always import baggage files in the RH explorer view, and I
let RH take care of the rhbag.apj file. (This is not to reject my
colleagues' advice to edit the file. It may be necessary. I haven't
    needed to do that.)
RH also keeps the baggage file list in a database table in
the .cpd file. It has a separate table for links to baggage files.
On the rare occasion when I have a problem, I discover an
error in the database table. For example, each topic and baggage
file has an ID number, and sometimes a file ID acquires a "minus"
sign. Normally that's a "missing file" flag, but RH can't reconcile
the database flag with the file's presence in the project folder.
Open a backup copy of the .cpd file in MS Access, go to
tables view and open the ones for baggage files. If you see a
negative topic or file ID, and you know the file is in the
project's Windows directory, delete the minus sign.
If you see entries for baggage files that you know are
obsolete, and you've removed them in RH and the project directory,
delete those entries. Save before you exit from Access.
Access may warn that you won't be able to save any changes
unless you convert the database file to your current version of
Access. I've ignored this warning and successfully saved changes.
On the other hand, I don't believe any harm would come from
    updating.
Temporarily change the name of the original cpd file and
substitute the revised copy with the correct file name.
Launch RH and open the project. The baggage files should be
straightened out, but if not, try importing the "missing" ones from
a location outside the project directory. (The corollary is that
you shouldn't try to import a baggage file that's already in the
project directory and may be in the rhbag.apj list as well. That's
    what sometimes confuses RH.)
Interestingly, when you import a file that RH previously
couldn't find, sometimes the import dialog says the baggage file is
already in the project, do you want to overwrite it? Just say yes.
Don't try to explain it, because RH can't tell you why it has to
overwrite a file that isn't there.
Of course, you have the option of going back to the original
.cpd file by removing the new one and renaming the old one.
Sometimes I start by making a copy of the entire project, but then
I have to label and remember which folder contains the version I
want to use later. Don't use the "recent projects" list in RH
unless you revised the project name for the copy.

  • PowerPoint Baggage File

I'm using Robo 9 in Windows 7.  I can import a PowerPoint baggage file and link to it (the link is in a table in the topic).  When I generate WebHelp, View the output and click the link, nothing happens.  Does Robo 9 place nicely with PPT?  I've gone to the hyperlink properties and tried opening in different frames, and even popups, to no avail.
    Thanks for your help!

Is this just a problem while you are working on it or when the end users access the help?
If it is just you, the other way in IE to avoid the ActiveX problem is to go into IE advanced options and Enable Active Content on My Computer. That way you don't need MoW. Or maybe you are blocked from changing it?

  • Force PDF baggage file to open in Adobe Reader?

Hello, I develop WebHelp using RH10 and have noticed that in my published output, linked PDF baggage files launch in the users' browser window rather than in Adobe Reader. Is this something I can control?
This seems to be the case no matter how I set the options in the Hyperlink Properties dialog (Page Default, New Window. etc).
    Thanks,

  • Can't delete baggage files/folders

Running robohelp x3, I've somehow generated files in my
baggage files that I can't delete. They are missing files (since I
didn't create them in the first place) and I can't delete their
reference or (because they are referenced) the folder it's in. I
think I might have edited a file within the generated set of files
instead of my master set, but I can't seem to fix it. These are the
    files that I can't delete:
    whmsg.js
    whproxy.js
    whtopic.js
    whutils.js
    whver.js
How do I get rid of these?

  • Unable to view PDF (baggage file) in CHM

    Hi,
I have recently started using a new desktop pc running Windows 7. I am now unable to view PDF files (added as baggage files in RoboHelp) in the CHMs generated by RoboHelp. Even existing CHMs (generated before switching desktops) have this problem. Has anyone experienced the same problem and managed to solve it?
    Sofie

A while back someone told me they had a similar problem with IE8 and advised they fixed as below:
"After fiddling around with some settings, I found that if you go to Settings/Safety and enable Active X Filtering, the embedded files open normally."
That will only fix it on your machine though. Do these CHMs work on other machines OK?

  • Baggage files will not display/open

Using Robohelp 9, Baggage files have been added to project and links created to them but linked baggage files will not open when project is generated.  Using local drive and have attempted display in IE10, IE10 (compatability mode), IE9, IE8 but get same result.

  • Can't add file to baggage files folder

    Hi,
I have a javascript file I'm trying to add to the baggage
files folder. However, for some reason, I can't add it. I'm using
robohelp 6 and roboosource control 3.0. When I try to add the file,
nothing is added to the folder. I was able to add the same JS file
to another project that was created in X5. So I'm unsure what the
    prolem is.
I manually added the javascript file to the rhbag.apj file
but it still doesn't seem to recognize that this file is added to
the baggage files folder or project. I'm still getting a javascript
error as if the file is not in the project.
Strangely enough, when I tried to add the javascript file
from the other project's folder, it asked me if I wanted to
overwrite the js file. But it still doesn't appear in the baggage
files folder or in source control.
    Any help is appreciated.
    thanks
    --Brad

    Hi Rick
Sorry--I guess my previous response wasn’t clear. I did
physically copy the JS file to the local project folder first. I
didn’t think it would magically appear.
In terms of the .apj file, I edited it—adding
the code for the script from another project’s apj where the
same script is working—and saved it. But it’s still not
adding the js file to the baggage files folder or to source
control. When I view the apj file that’s in source control,
it has the js code in there.
I then tried overwriting the apj with the apj from a project
where the script is working (that’s what I meant by
replacing), but that didn’t work either. To add another
twist, the script runs without errors in preview mode, but not in
    the compiled html help.
I’m unsure what’s wrong with this project as this
script is successfully working in other projects and visibly
appears in the other projects’ baggage files folders. I hope
    this was a little clearer.
I’m open to any other suggestions.
    Any questions, let me know.
    Thanks
    Brad

  • Link to bookmark in MS Word baggage file

    [RoboHelp 9]
I'm sure this must have come up before but I haven't found it. I have bookmarks in a Word document, and that document is a baggage file in the current project. How do I insert a hyperlink in my topic that opens the Word doc at a bookmarked location?
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike
Assuming it's even possible to open a Word document at a bookmark, one way to accomplish it and leave the document as a document would be to use a Redirect topic.
Just create a topic that will only be used to open the document. Then add the redirect code to the HTML.
Create a totally blank topic. I typically name these topics Redirect_Topicname.HTM so I don't confuse them with other topics. (Change Topicname to something indicating what the topic redirects to.)
    Display the HTML code.
Locate the section near the top of the file containing the grouping of META tags.
Insert the following line somewhere in the META tags. It doesn't matter where it is inserted, just as long as the line appears somewhere in the list.
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV=refresh CONTENT="0;URL=FileName.DOC#bookmark_name">
    Hopefully this helps. (and works)
    Cheers... Rick

  • Importing large amounts of baggage files?

I'm making generating a new roboproject from a Word document.
Only one of the problems I'm having is that the Word document
contains a lot of links to external files. These links still exist
in Robohelp, but they don't refer to right location anymore.
How do import all those external files fast and easy way
(instead of one by one) as baggage files in Robohelp?
Is there an other way to work with external files?

"fast and easy"? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,
    ha, ha, ha!
But seriously, folks...open the rhbag.apj file in Notepad,
see how the baggage file entries are formatted, and format each of
your new entries in the proper format in another file (you might
need a good Replace tool like FAR), and then add them to the
    rhbag.apj file.
An alternate method might be to perform the new entry
    formatting in Word,
but then filtering those results through Notepad first
, then copying the straight text into the rhbag.apj file.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Baggage files in folder, in rhbag, NOT shown in Project Manager

We use RH7 and have significant numbers of baggage files per project. We import the baggage files, they show up, life is good.  We drag/drop to them all over the place.  Then you rebuild the .cpd file and more than 50% of them disappear.  They are still in the folder, they are STILL in the rhbag file.  They just don't show in the project manager, which makes drag/drop pretty darn tough.  Also leads to duplicates with slightly different names as authors try to 'fix' the problem.
I painstakenly add them back in...only to have them all disappear the first time I rebuild the .cpd.  The same ones stay...the same ones disappear.
What is the issue?  This is so frustrating and there is no good answer to provide to people.
Does anyone have a solution that works?  Does RH8 fix this?  Thank you!!!!

    Hi Teri
How's the supply of Dissident going? Any left in the cellar?
Last time you had a problem project, it was the number of images behind the problem. That didn't stop the images appearing but it affected the project in other ways. You say this project has 7,000 images. Isn't that the sort of level that gave you problems before? What is the number of images in the biggest project in the merge you finally created?
Maybe the symptom is the baggage files not appearing in Project Manager but that doesn't mean they are the cause.
What is the file size of this project zipped up? No I don't want you to send it, I want to compare it with the last one that gave grief and was over 100mb as I recall.

  • Linked PDF Baggage File

    Hello,
I am using RoboHelp 9 to create chm files on a Windows 7 machine.  I have several pdf baggage files in my project that I link to.  All works well, except everytime I click on a link to a pdf I get a File download security dialog to Open or Save the file.
Is there a way to just have it open the file or is this controlled by Windows security?  I can open pdf files on my machine without any dialog box appearring when using Windows Explorer.
We would rather not have users making copies of the pdf files if they choose Save.
    Thanks

  • Robohelp hangs when I try to add baggage files to projects

I have two RoboHelp projects using source control (Visual Studio/Team Foundation Server) in Robohelp HTML version 8. Both service packs are installed.
When I right click the Baggage Files folder and select 'Add to baggage files' the program hangs, and I have to crash out of it. This started happening in both projects at the same time, possibly as a result of me adding image files to the baggage files folder. I've reverted to the project as it was before I made these changes, but the problem persists.
I've started a new test project, not connected to version control, and Robohelp hangs in exactly the same way when I try to
Is there anything you could recommend? I'd be extremely grateful for any ideas. I searched the forum and couldn't find any references to anything like this issue.
Would you recommend resintalling Robohelp, for instance?
    Many thanks.

    Hi Rick,
    Thanks for yor speedy reply.
It's a good thought, but I've verified that the rhbag.apj file isn't set to read only. In fact, I tried editing it after the problem started in an attempt to add baggae files manually. That didn't work (I was able to trick Robohelp but not the server...).
Do you have any other suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Linking to baggage file

in RH8, I'm trying to create a hyperlink within a topic to a baggage file, which I imported as a pdf. Is this good practice? because I was able to do it, but now when I try to view it, it views fine. But back in design mode, I get the robohelp error message, where it asks if you want an error report or not, then kills RH.

Yep.... couple of saves did the trick, I'd experienced this a while ago but couldn't rmrmember what to to do - Thanx once again. In the end I had to remove the image again as if I didn't when I saved, iweb would restore the link I had just removed so her was my workfolw.
    Delete image.
    Save
    Quit and relaunch.
    Add new image
    link to file
    Save
    Quit and relaunch
    Publish
Not sure if 2 quits and relaunches are necessary but it worked so I'll keep it that way.

  • Exclude Baggage Files From RH8 Search

    Hi...
I have noticed that you can exclude pages from appearing in
the RH8 search (Topic Properties > Exclude From Search), but are
you also able to do this with baggage files? (now that RH8 indexes
    those too).
I have a large number of PDF baggage files, but dont want
these to appear in the search.
    Thanks...

    Hi Mat
Unfortunately Baggage files are immune from Conditional Build
tagging. I would strongly encourage you and others to pester Adobe
with Wish Forms asking for ability to apply CBTs to baggage
    content.
    Click
here to visit the Wish Form
Until this feature emerges as part of the RoboHelp feature
set, the best you can probably do is to place the files inside a
folder in baggage where you can occasionally sneak behind
RoboHelp's back and rename the folder temporarily so RoboHelp
doesn't know about it. This would effectively exclude the files.
Once finished with the special build, rename the folder back
    to what it was.
    Cheers... Rick
