BAK (Backup)and MNO (Design Notes) files

I have inherited a site built with Dreamweaver and managed in Contribute and about to migrate the site to a different server and  noticed a  ton of mno and bak files correspondign tot he live sites.
First how are both of these file types generated?
What happens if I Clean Up the MNO (design notes) files?
via:
Site=>Manage Sites=>Edit=>Site Definition=>Advanced=>Design Notes=>Maintain Design Notes (Click Clean Up button)
Will this delete all the MNO file types?  ANd if so, how what are the implications?  How do I prevetn future MNO file tyoes?
BAK files:
How are these being generated?  How to delete?  Implicaitons of deleting?  How to prevent future generation of files?
Thank you.

Clickign the Clean Up button simply removes those .mno files that are not associated with an existing files. You'll get these when an HTML file is deleted, but the .mno file is not.
Dreamweaver uses design notes (.mno files) heavily with Contribute as well as to identify graphic source files for Fireworks, Flash and, I think in CS4, Photoshop. The .bak files are those created when the Rollback feature in Contribute is enabled. I'd recommend clicking Clean Up, then keeping the .mno and .bak files, unless you want to start of the site with a clean slate (i.e., no backups that the Contribute admin can rollback to) in which case, I'd remove the .bak files. Design notes are typically very small in size and act like cookies to maintain meta information.

Not able to sign into Blackberry Protect.  Backup and Restore function not working. Message is: "Your device isn't associated with a Blackberry ID."  My Blackberry Messenger and Blackberry World is working fine so I am sure its not an ID issue on the phone.  I can sign into Link, Blackberry.com and Protect.  I see my device in Protect but cannot send messages or view it on a map.  Times out with cannot reach device message.  BB Protect on Device has a swirling circle beside the on/of switch.  Cannot turn off.
I have deleted Link and re-installed.
I have reset phone to default(factory) and signed in.
    OS level is 10.2.1.3062
    BB Link is 1.2.3.56
    Solved!

I managed to figure this out myself. I had to delete the device from the Blackberry Protect website.  protect.blackberry.com.  I wiped my device again and signed in with my Blackberry ID.  I dont know if the step of wiping was necessary as I did not try my backup with the current configuration on the device following the delete.  Restore is in progress for me!

  • Lost all my backups and TM will not backup.

I lost all my backups today. I have MacPro with data totalling about 900GB plus a laptop with 170GB on it backing up to a 1.5TB drive. There was about 2 months of backups so I had about 200 GB free on the TM drive. There is no issue with the laptop backup. All references from now are to the MacPro. I was using iMovie yesterday and converted a largish movie for speed adjustment. I noticed my available space on TM had dropped to about 100GB but didn't worry about it as I suspected there were some temp files or something from iMovie that were responsible and I would track them down later. Today I tried to convert a similar size movie and left it running while I was gone. When I came back TM said backup failed and TM widget said this......

Get info on the TM disc says 76GB available. Get info on the Backups.backupdb folder says its size is 2.21TB!!!!!
Any suggestions? I guess I've lost all my older backups but is the current backup salvageable (and trustworthy) or should I move the laptop backup to another drive and start the TM disc from scratch for the MacPro? Can I then just move the laptop sparse image back to the TM disc and the laptop will pick up where it left off?
I will wear starting the MacPro backup from scratch if necessary but don't want to screw the laptop backup as it's my wife's and she's overseas.
Sorry for the long post but wanted to try to be clear.
I just tried to repair the disc in disc utility as suggested to someone in another post but it said error - could not unmount disc.

I lost all my backups today.
Doesn't sound like it... sounds like you simply can't back up any further. You can still enter Time Machine to restore files, right?
I have MacPro with data totalling about 900GB plus a laptop with 170GB on it backing up to a 1.5TB drive.
Well, there's your problem. Time Machine needs +at a minimum+ 2-3 times more space than what is being backed up. You say you have 1070 GB (about 1.04 TB) being backed up, but you've only given Time Machine 1.5 TB to work with. You need a backup drive that is at least 2-3 TB in size!
Also, if this is your only backup, you're making a huge mistake. You should always have a minimum of 2 backups. See my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups> for more information on backing up. You may also want to look at some of the user contributed tips at the top of the [Leopard Time Machine forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1227]. Those will all apply to Snow Leopard as well.
One other question: you say you're backing up two machines onto one drive. How are you doing this? Time Machine tends not to play well with others... meaning that, since it tries to use every bit of space on the backup drive, trying to use that drive for something else (including a second machine's backup) tends to result in problems. The exception is, I believe, if you have hooked it up to an AirPort base station and are using it like a Time Capsule, in which case Time Machine will expect to share the space with other backups.
I just tried to repair the disc in disc utility as suggested to someone in another post but it said error - could not unmount disc.
Was there a backup going on at the time? Was it connected to the computer you were running Disk Utility on, or to a different computer or a base station? You can't repair a drive that is in use or being accessed remotely. If all else fails, connect it to one of your machines and boot that machine from the Mac OS X install disk, then run Disk Utility from there.

  • Backup and restore buttons not working

    Hi,
Any button in my backup and restore centre with a shield next to it (for UAC) is not working. Identical to this thread:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/6a138e65-2834-41ac-bd40-c2344e20b824/backup-and-restore-panel-buttons-not-working
A fair way down that page, Lokesh replies but I don't have any of the software that he mentions in his post. Is anyone able to help?

    Hi,
According to the Lokesh's reply, this problem is probably caused by 3rd plugin in Windows Explorer Shell. UAC dialog couldn't be prompt correctly.
To resolve this problem, you can try to use ShellExViewer instead to make troubleshoot, please follow the content of the link below for more details:

  • Backup and Restore app not functioning?

    Hello,
I just factory reset my z3 because stamina mode wasn't working and I wanted to give it a go to see if factory reset would work. I used the built in Backup and Restore app to backup my messages (conversations) to my SD card (everything else was backed up through Google already). Well, every time I hit the restore option it finds the file and acts like it is restoring, only to leave me with nothing. And every time I reset my phone it alerts me that a backup is detected and wants to do a restore.
    Any ideas?

  • I have restored my iMac from backup and it will not boot

I restored my iMac from an external drive using time machine and when it restarts, it sit with the grey screen and petals rotating.
The restore was used as I had tried to share be two iTunes libararies and manged to loose the content links within iTunes, so thought the restore would take me back, pre user error.
I have tried. 3 different restore points and checked the disk, using disk utility, that was ok. Repaired the permissions ok  on the disk and still the machine will not reboot.
It goes through the restore ok then just sits on the grey screen after reboot.
Any ideas or have I really screwed it up?

Reinstalled OSX lion overnight and recovered ok, most of the files were intact.
Would not let me use the migration tool from tm as it would nor show the bak up drive, even though it is backing up to it.  Still miffed why the restore would not work, as the mac came with lion installed from new and I had backed up from day 1.
I do not have much faith in the tm backup.  I just hope that if there is a next time, that I can retrieve my information.
I bought a mac thinking I would not be having theses issues, I hope this is nt a sign of things to come!
Thanks for your support and confirming I was doing the right things to try and recover my situation.

  • Database backup and Restore do not bring latest Schema/Data.

    Hi,
I have scheduled a Full SQL backup for a LIVE database every evening. Now, if I restore this backup to Test environment, it does not bring the changes from LIVE. The script I am using is:
    BACKUP DATABASE [XXX_Applications]
TO  DISK = N'\\XXXX\XXX_Applications.bak' WITH NOFORMAT,
    NOINIT,
    NAME = N'XXXX_Applications-Full Database Backup',
    SKIP,
    NOREWIND,
    NOUNLOAD,
    COMPRESSION,
    STATS = 10
    GO
    declare @backupSetId as int
    select @backupSetId = position from msdb..backupset where database_name=N'XXXX_Applications'
    and backup_set_id=(select max(backup_set_id) from msdb..backupset
    where database_name=N'XXXX_Applications' )
    --Check for backupSetId  NULL
RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM  DISK = N'\\XXXX\XXX_Applications.bak'
WITH  FILE = @backupSetId,  NOUNLOAD,  NOREWIND
I had to manually go to SSMS->Tasks->SQL Backup. Restoring the manual backup brought all the latest changes from live.
Not sure what might be the issue with scripted backup. How do I make sure that Backup generated is correct?
    Shady

    BACKUP DATABASE [XXX_Applications]
TO  DISK = N'\\XXXX\XXX_Applications.bak' WITH NOFORMAT,
    NOINIT,
    Hello Shady,
NOINIT means the backup file stays as it is and the new backup is appended to the backup file. With the default RESTORE Syntax you restore the first backup in the file, not the latest backup; therefore you get old data/Schema.
Change it to INIT to clear the backup file first before the backup is added or address the latest backup in the RESTORE command.

  • I just had my hard drive replaced and restored everything from a Time Machine external hard drive backup and now my "note" widgets won't load. Any ideas ?

I just had my hard drive replaced. I restored it using a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive. When I open Dashboard none of my "note" widgets will load. The other widgets open, such as weather, weather radar, calculater, dictionary, stock...  Even the iPhoto Mini widget works, just not the notes ( Sticky Notes and K-Notes ).  Any ideas on how to fix this ?

I did some research and found the solution to my problem. So I hope it's okay to answer my own question.
When you reinstall the OS, your Preferences go back to their default settings. Apparently Preferences is where this widget information is stored. This Preferences folder is located in the user Library folder which is hidden by default. You can access it using "one, or the other" of the following actions.
Action 1:      (1) In the Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder
                         (2) In the Go To Folder dialog, type ~/Library
                         (3) Click Go
                                                          -- OR --
Action 2:     Hold down the option (alt) key when using the Go menu. The Library folder is listed just                            below the Home folder.
After opening the Preferences folder, the file that you want to locate for k-notes is named
    widget-com.rakoth.lichlord.widget.k-notes.plist
After you locate it make note of the byte size of the file. Now, with the Preferences folder still open, open Time Machine and go back in time until you see a big jump in the file size. That will be your uncorrupted plist. Restore it and close Time Machine.
    Then Restart your computer.
After following this procedure I brought up Dashboard and my blank k-notes were now refilled with the previous text and color that occupied them before I had to restore the OS.
This procedure also worked for Sticky notes, which in the Preference folder are named
    widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist

It apply newest the same archived log i had table created between 01-Nov to 05-Nov.
How can i do with RMAN to recover my table? That is not possible,if your all available archive logs applied using rman or through sqlplus(recover database using backup controlfile until cancel) and one of these logs contain your table then there are not any problems. So there are not any difference between recovery using rman and user managed(using sqlplus),but there main matter is applying all archive logs.So first check through rman list copy of archivelog all or list backup of archivelog all and identify there in rman repository is any information or not about these logs.

  • Upgrading final Cut Pro - recieved as a gift, and designated "Not for Sale"

I've been working in FCP with a version that a friend, in the business, was given as a perk and passed on to me. The FCP that he gave me is marked "Not for Sale". I did register it.
I just upgraded to Tiger and am having problems with dropping frames in capture. After looking at this discussion forum, I conclude that it's necessary to upgrade my FCP. Does anyone know if it Is possible to upgrade a product that was a promo gift, and thus designated, "Not For Sale"?

So it was a promo item, and not an academic version? AKA, it says Not For Sale on the registration screen when FCP opens? Those versions are usually handed out to academic institutions and are so that students or teachers could use a full version without buying it. Unfortunately, the only way for you to upgrade is to buy a whole new full retail version.

  • Windows 2008 Backup and SQL

We want to setup two separate 2008 r2 servers that are running SQL to use Windows backup and we're not sure how this will impact the databases within SQL. Is it possible to use Windows backup for both full and incremental with no effect to the databases?

    Hi,
I did not understand your question at all, but let me advise the following:
Whatever you do on your server SQL Server will always will be affected, since SQL (version 2005 and above) eats memory like a kid in a candy shop.
I would schedule the backup to run in evening or when less users are connected to your databases.
Otherwise you can set SQL Backup (inside the application) and user windows server backup to copy the .bak file to wherever you want.
    Hope this helps.

  • Backup and Log that keep the same size

Hi guys, just a quick question...but once that I ran a backup, the log file should become zero or not? I mean, I ran a backup and before my log file ( I'm getting crazy with it) was 153 GB, after the backup is...153 GB...!?
    Any thoughts...

The select return NOTHING, the DBCCOPENTRAN(datawarehose) returns incorrect syntax, I shrinked the log file and now is Filesize 1.00, UsedSpace 0.29, FreeSpace 0.71, Perc 70.67
Now I ran a query before the backup and it took 6.01 min, after the backup it took 3.48 and after the shrink log 3.48 again.
It seems that the performance is improved but I need to test with select more incisive.
Query should be DBCC OPENTRAN(datawarehose) anyways as you said database is in simple recovery no need of full backup it would have no affect on Log shrinking. You can always shrink log when when query returns nothing it means nothing is holding back the
    query.
Most important thing dont shrink logs it would cause performance issue because when log grows spave has to be zeroed out first before information can be written which can take time and thus can delay query. You should preallocate log file enough space to
grow before hand instead of being reactive with shrink and then again grow.
