Balance on account wrong when redeemed gift card

My son received two itunes cards and loaded one just after Christmas. He had a balance of £7 showing on the account and he loaded a £25 card yesterday, however the balance iwent to £25 not £32. Why does your account only show what you have redeemed not what vouchers you have loaded? I have e-mailed the support(!) but keeping getting someone (or a computer) that keeps telling me to check my purchase history. Can anyone help?

If your son created a new account on the PC when he redeemed the card, you'll have to authorize the Mac to that account to play the new tracks. Otherwise, you should be good to go.

I thought the whole idea with touch id was not having to enter your long-*** passwords all the time?!? iTunes asked for my password when I try to redeem gift cards, instead of letting me use touch id. Is this the way its supposed to work?

I was having this issue too, it was always asking for the passcode even though the setting was on for iTunes & App Store. To fix it I turned it off and then back on again, it asked for my password and then it worked.
Steps:
- Go to Settings -> General -> Touch ID & Passcode -> Touch ID
- Disable iTunes & App Store
- Re-enable iTunes & App Store
- Enter your passcode one last time
- It should work
Also as others mentioned, under General -> Restrictions -> Require Password might need to be set to 15 minutes.

Error (-1202) when redeeming gift cards

For the last several days when I click to redeem a gift card or if I click on Buy Itunes gifts, my request gets timed out and a message of "We could not complete your ITunes store request. An unknown error occured (-1202)".
Everything else in the store works, I can buy items, sample songs on the store, etc, just these two categories. Any ideas?

I just had the same problem this morning. I called Apple and they gave me a work around... Go to the iTunes Store main page, right click on "Redeem" and select "Copy Link". Go to your internet browser and copy the link into the address bar... That should open the iTunes store and give you "Redeem" page.
It doesn't fix the error necessarily, but let's you redeem the card.

If I redeem gift cards, where can I see my account balance? Also, if I purchase apps, games, etc., How does it know to use the gift card vs. my credit card on file?

My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option. On my iOS devices it shows at the bottom of, for example, the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id (or you can view your account via Settings > iTunes & App Stores and it should show on the screen that you are taken to).

I thought So too but then I went to Itunes Library and try and buy a single song from an album for $1.29. Now my Itunes Gift card balance is $ 7.10 as I mentioned earlier. it still did not let me buy and kept trying billing my Visa card.
Should I restart my PC and Itunes and retry. What do you suggest?

I have been trying to fix this myself and just found a way tonight. This started happening after I downloaded a new version. I tried several other approaches and was unsuccessful until I was directed to the support website. I searched for 5002 error. I chose specific conditions and alert message. Then chose "Error 5002" which gave a little detail.
Basically I had to go to the above site and change my password and some other account information. It didn't work when I tried in my actual ITUNES application. I think because my account was so old and they upgraded some security items like stronger passwords etc., so the old stuff was no longer good enough. I have now redeemed two gift cards. I hope it helps.
