Band Select - Acceptable Client RSSI.

Band Select, "Acceptable Client RSSI".
Is the RSSI in this parameter the RSSI measured from the 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
Is it the signal the client measures from the AP, or the signal that the AP measures from the client? (I assume AP measures from client).
Also how would you go about determining a "good" setting for "Probe Cycle Count (for a client neutral network)? The default is 2 but I think it used to be 4. 4x200ms (scan cycle period threshold) is 'only' 800ms which is not all that long IMO if it helps more traffic get to 5GHz.
Thank you.
-Dale-

Dale,
The RSSI is measured from the 2.4ghz and it's from the AP not the client. Does this work all the time... No it doesn't. The issue you might see from extending the default settings is the device might not connect at all. The client device will make the final determination. You will need to test and decide what works for your devices.

  • Client SSID selection with Band Select

    Hi,
    We have 2 SSID's. One configured for WPA\TKIP and another configured for WPA2\AES.
    All clients have both SSID's configuration deployed via group policy with the WPA2\AES SSID being given priority in the windows supplicant.
    However, I am seeing that some clients will connect to AP's using the WPA\TKIP SSID even when they support WPA2\AES and are configured to use WPA2\AES SSID first.
    I've been trying to understand why this might happen and I was thinking that perhaps the band select feature could be causing this for clients with only b\g\n radios. By delaying the probe response to the probe request for the WPA2\AES SSID the client then selects WPA\TKIP SSID.
    Has any else seen similair behavoir?
    Thanks

    I have to say it sounds like a client issue. Capture 802.11 and see what is being negotiated by the client and ap.

  • What does per Wlan Band select and load balancing do ?

    Good morning.....We recently upgraded our controllers from 4.2.185 to 6.0.188 and have noticed many clients having connectivity issues. We have Aggressive load balancing turned off globally but have noticed that band select and load balancing are enabled on the
    Wlan. Are these settings mutually exclusive or do they do the same thing ?  Does the Wlan setting override the default ? We have noticed that there is
    output doing "debug dot11 load-balancing"
    Thanx.....Dave

    I believe we never had load balancing turned on when running 5.2 code. We jumped from 5.2 to 6.x temporarily and then to 7.0 within a 30 day time frame this summer. We're a large university and we had very few users on WiFi during that time.
    The Macintosh laptops are having nothing but trouble since school began, and I have gone over everything and found that band select is turned on as well as load balancing. Since band select didn't exist in 5.2 (I believe) I know it wasn't on. As for load balancing, I don't believe it was on, and I discovered it was turned on when recently reviewing our configs.
    The Macintosh laptops have been debugged and our Mac gurus tell us they're getting a message that equates to "the AP is busy, or the AP is full". This leads me to believe that load balancing got turned on during the upgrade and we didn't notice, which caused the Macintoshes to have issues.
    We don't have any VoWiFi clients so we don't have to support them, and we don't officially support smartphones, either.
    I turned off load balancing and will see how it goes....
    Thanks!

  • Enable Band Select 5760

    Hi everyone... i have a 5760 with 3.3.02 XE ver and i have trouble to connect a several laptops to 802.11n standar with 40mghz channel width  most of them go to 802.11a only or 802.11 on 2.4ghz.
    i have a macbook pro mid 2012 and i can't connect to a 5ghz N with 40mghz any one can help me to enable band select and known what can it be the issue?
    Best regards!

    Hi Fernando,
    You can configure band-select for a wlan like below. You may need to momentarily shutdown your WLAN to do this.
    5760-1(config)#wlan ABC 21 ABC
    5760-1(config-wlan)#shutdown
    5760-1(config-wlan)#band-select
    5760-1(config-wlan)#no shut
    "show wireless client mac-address <client_MAC> detail" output should provide detail about client connectivity.
    Provide "show run | be wlan <WLAN_NAME> "  & "show run | in ap dot11 "output to see how you configured your 5760.

  • Support for Band Select on AP3600 and AP3700

    Can anyone please confirm if the Band Select feature (ie encourages clients to use 5GHz band)  is supported on the AP3600 and AP3700 access points?
    Thank-you.

    Hi Marvin,
    Yes , supported. It is configured globally under Wireless > Advanced (only parameters ) and can be enabled/disabled per SSID.

  • Details about Band Select feature

    Hi Board,
    currently I want to prepare a WLC test series. Now I'm stuck at the Band Select feature. I'm not clever enough to completely understand the functionality by reading the 7.2 software configuration guide or this document https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-20630.
    This is how I understand the single settings and timer.
    In my examples the default settings are assumed:
    - Probe cycle count: 2 (default)
    - Scan Cycle Period Threshold: 200 ms (default)
    - Age out dual band: 60 seconds (default)
    - Blue arrows indicates usage of the 2,4 GHz band
    - Blue arrows indicates usage of the 5 GHz band
    Case 1: Client ignores band select
    - After the first (initial) probe request of the client, the probe cycle count is already increased by one (so it is "1" right now)
    - Probe requests from the client, which are within the scan cycle period, are ignored - the probe cycle count is not increased (dotted line)
    - After the next probe request, which is after the scan cycle period, the probe cycle count is increased by one (so it is "2" right now)
    - Because the max probe cycle count is set to two (meaning that two probe requests are suppressed), the next probe request is answerd. It does not matter if the next probe request is within the scan cycle period or not, because it is not needed to increase the probe cycle count again (it is already max = 2)
    Case 2: Client doesn't ignore band select
    - After the first (initial) probe request of the client, the probe cycle count is already increased by one (so it is "1" right now)
    - Because the client does not receive an answer to the initial probe request, it tried to send the probe request in the 5 GHz band.
    - The 5 GHz probe request is answered immedately.
    - Then the client is associated to the SSID in the 5 GHz band. Probe requests by the client in the 2,4 GHz band within the "age out dual band" time (60 seconds) are ignored by the AP.
    When does the "Age out dual band" timer actually starts decrementing? After the clients successfully associated to the 5 GHz band OR after the AP sees the first probe requests in the 5 GHz band? How does the AP know that probe requests in the 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz band come from the same client? The radio interfaces of the client have different MAC addresses! So how does the AP know, that probe requests in the 2,4 GHz band (MAC A) comes from a client, which is already associated in the 5 GHz band (MAC B)???
    Are my assumptions right? Does someone have paper or a link, which describes this feature more in depth?
    Best regards
    Joe
    Edit: Case 2 extended by the "age out dual band"

    Band select steer A/G client to use A and doesn't work other way.
    Client will keep probing even after client associated to AP, however AP  doesn't care those probes if they're already connected to it.
    When does the "Age out dual band" timer actually starts decrementing?
    as soon as wireless client connected to AP on 5ghz
    How does the AP know that probe requests in the 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz band come from the same client?
    Wireless client uses same MAC irrespective of Radio 2.4/5ghz is used, Physical device has one MAC only, unless custom wireless driver used to create virtual MAC at software.
    If there were one MAC address per radio then it is possible to connect to two different WLAN, Use one b radio to talk to AP and use the A radio for bridging.

    Hi Jason
    I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
    the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
    I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
    Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.

  • C# compiling error: 'System.Array' does not contain a definition for 'Select' and no extension method 'Select' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Array' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

    Hello experts,
    I'm totally new to C#. I'm trying to modify existing code to automatically rename a file if exists. I found a solution online as follows:
    string[] allFiles = Directory.GetFiles(folderPath).Select(filename => Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(filename)).ToArray();
            string tempFileName = fileName;
            int count = 1;
            while (allFiles.Contains(tempFileName ))
                tempFileName = String.Format("{0} ({1})", fileName, count++);
            output = Path.Combine(folderPath, tempFileName );
            string fullPath=output + ".xml";
    However, it gives the following compilation errors
    for the Select and Contain methods respectively.:
    'System.Array' does not contain a definition for 'Select' and no extension method 'Select' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Array' could be found
    (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
    'System.Array' does not contain a definition for 'Contains' and no extension method 'Contains' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Array' could be
    found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
    I googled on these errors, and people suggested to add using System.Linq;
    I did, but the errors persist.
    Any help and information is greatly appreciated.
    P. S. Here are the using clauses I have:
    using System;
    using System.Data;
    using System.Windows.Forms;
    using System.IO;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Linq;

    Besides your issue with System.Core, you also have a problem with the logic of our code, particularly your variables. It is confusing what your variables represent. You have an infinite loop, so the last section of code is never reached. Take a look
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    using System.IO;
    namespace consAppFileManipulation

    string folderPath = @"c:\temp\";

    string output = "";
    string fileNameOnly = Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(fullPath);
    string extension = Path.GetExtension(fullPath);
    string path = Path.GetDirectoryName(fullPath);
    string newFullPath = fullPath;
    string[] allFiles = Directory.GetFiles(folderPath).Select(filename => Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(filename)).ToArray();
    string tempFileName = fileName;
    int count = 1;
    //THIS IS AN INFINITE LOOP
    while (allFiles.Contains(fileNameOnly))
    tempFileName = String.Format("{0} ({1})", fileName, count++);
    //THIS CODE IS NEVER REACHED
    output = Path.Combine(folderPath, tempFileName);

  • Access points wont accept clients on 2.4 GhZ

    Hi
    We are having some Issue with some Access Points are dropping clients on 2.4 GhZ radio, the radio is if you SSH to the Access Point "Dot11Radio0 is up, line protocol is up".
    Our setup is 2 x Wism2 controller (7.5), a CPI (1.4), and around 750 Access points of various types (1121, 1131, 1142, 2602).
    If we reset the Access Point from CPI it comes up and it will again accept clients on 2.4 GhZ for a random time period, sometimes it works for some hours, sometimes for a couple of days, total random.
    The once we have seen the problem on is as I know 1142:
    Software Version
    7.5.102.0
    Boot Version
    12.4.23.0
    AP Model
    AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9
    IOS Version
    15.2(4)JA1$
    Hope to get help finding a solution.
    Best regards

    If you have a high density deployment, you might want to look at your RRM. What is the power set to on the AP's. If the power is set too low, that can cause clients not to see or be able to join an access point. If this is the case, you need to set the min tx power level for the 2.4ghz radio which is under the wireless tab in the 802.11bgn TPC.
    If you have an issue with a certain AP model, it might be a bug, but you didn't mention what model AP is was happening to.

  • Submit Button Acrobat 9 Pro & Select Email Client Screen

    I'm new to Acrobat and creating forms and need help.  I've created a few forms for work using 8 Pro, which have been successful.  I decided to purchase 9 Pro for home and use for our school's PTU membership drive.
    I created a form using a Word doc and the Acrobat Form Wizard.  It worked, I adjusted my fields, added a Submit button with mailto:[email protected] as the URL and want to distribute the form as "save and distribute later."  This works.  When I bring up the form for a test run, and submit to myself I get a pop up asking to Select Email Client - do I use Outlook (a few others are also listed) or Yahoo or Hotmail as my email servers.  If I click Outlook, everything is fine, the document gets forwarded to me with no problem (because I use Outlook).  My concern is for members who don't use Outlook (or the others).  They have to go through more steps by saving the doc to their hard drive and emailing it to me as an attachment.  I would really like to avoid extra steps for them.
    It there a something I'm missing in setting up my Submit button so it automatically gets emailed to me irregardless as to what they are using for email server?
    I have searched for 2 hours and have come up with nothing that I understand.  If you respond, please remember to be clear as I'm not a techno person.
    Thanks for ANY and ALL help you can provide.

    You are running into some of the classic problems/concerns for new users with forms. I will try to summarize the issues related to your work:
    1. You can create forms directly in Acrobat under the TOOLS menu using the form tools found there, or by selecting the options in the FORMS menu that generally take you to LiveCycle Designer. Questions on the forms should be put to the appropriate forum of these two, since the processing and menus are different.
    2. Having the forms be allowed to be saved (necessary for submitting the full form and not just the data that can be imported to the form) requires Reader Rights to be activated for clients using Reader. This activation limits the form use to 500 uses (check section 15 of the EULA for more details) that could be a problem for you, depending on the school size. If you have the form data submitted and do not activate the Rights, then there is not a limitation. Simply import the XML or FDF file into the form when you get it.
    3. The e-mail submission you have concerns about is valid. If you do not mind getting questions that it would not work on their machine, then fine. The e-mail submission will not work on all machines (PC , MAC, or UNIX). It depends on the client setup (you have no control), historically requiring MAPI to be active (typical of Outlook, but not other packages). In AA9/AR9 there appear to have been some extensions to this, but a lot of folks use version 9. In fact I have a different version that has come on every machine I have and do not have AA9 yet (AA4-AA8), with even older versions lying around some place. A few weeks ago someone checked in who was using AA4. Since I mentioned this problem, the solutions are:
    a. live with it and ask folks who can not submit to copy the info into the body of an e-mail or such.
    b. find someone who can add the proper scripts to a web server to receive the data. The school IT folks (if any) might be able to help there.
    c. submit the data in HTML form through a cgi-mail or formmail server that is available on many ISP servers (you may have to ask). These servers require some hidden fields telling the server where to send the submitted form data.
    Hope that helps. Bill

  • Need to avoid Select Email Client dialog when submitting Acrobat X form

    We are using Windows 7 / Office 2010 32-bit with Adobe Pro X, and have found that when creating a PDF from a Word 2010 document (via either print or convert or Word PDF or XPS), then using Acrobat to create a form from it, when we apply the action Submit a Form, the finished product presents users with a Select Email Client dialog.  The choices within the dialog are Desktop or Internet email.  We are using a direct email address, not a server location.  This happens even when NOT using the Distribute wizard.  Outlook is confirmed as the email choice in Adobe Preferences Internet Settings.  Anyone encounter this issue and have a fix or workaround?  We want the email to auto-create as it does in our XP / Acrobat 8 Pro environment without a dialog presentation.
    Thanks for any and all thoughts!

    Yes, you are right that is the way to go.  Thank you!
    I have tested and am now using successfully:
    // Set email address
    var cToAddr = "%email.address%";
    // Set the subject and body text for the e-mail message
    var cSubLine = "Survey Response";
    var cBody = "Message body text";
    // Send the form data as a PDF attachment in an e-mail message
    this.mailDoc({bUI: false, cTo: cToAddr, cSubject: cSubLine, cMsg: cBody});

    I always run Firefox in private browsing mode. Normally I don't accept cookies, but turn on the 'Accept cookies from sites' when necessary. Until recently when I've selected 'Accept cookies from sites', cookies have shown up in the 'cookies list'. Now they don't. As far as I can tell, I'm not doing anything differently. Resetting Firefox makes no difference.

  • Submit by email bypass Select Email client

    I would like to bypass the Select Email Client screen that pops up when you use the submit by email button and automatically have it choose OTHER so that the XML data can be saved to a network drive.
    Is there a way while doing this that I can also have a pop up message that tells the user how to name the file and proper directory in which to place the file?

    No, I don't think this is possible. You could submit the document via HTTP to a servlet (or some server side component) and then email the XDP from there there, or do whatever you want with it. That would be transparent to the user, and I believe this is what Aandi is refering to.
    If you email the document, it will ask the user how they want to email it, ie: desktop mail client, web mail, etc.
