Banded to 6 meg ...

... What does that mean?
On my other thread I was told that "your upstream is banded to 6Mb for some reason (although the upstream sync speed is only 4.6Mb) so something is amiss and your original suspicions were quite correct". What exactly does the "banded" comment mean?
Thanks

Thanks.
Is that different to IP profile? (Which is 10 meg upload for me).
With my previous ISP I could hold 6dB SNRM quite happily, and that's on a full line to the exchange and not just the line to the cabinet. (In fact I could hold 3dB but felt the connection "felt" better at 6dB).
Thanks

  • Is garage band included on 10.6 OS and hdmi display issues?

Imac, 17 inch display, 2.0 GHz, 1GB ram two issues.  Can I connect an hdmi second display (hidef tv) through the thunderbolt port and does garage band come with OS 10.6.  Can't find garage band anyplace and the second display when plugged in to an aftermarket thunderbolt to hdmi adapter sees the hdmi display but won't mirror.  I have a clean install of 10.6 and can't get past these two issues. Any help please.

Here's the issue.  I can only get 3 meg d/l speed and that drops to as low as .5 meg at times.  I can link my MacBook Pro to an hdmi hi def 1080 thru a Devi connector and all works fine.  I run Netflix and the MacBook buffers the content so if the speed lags the show doesn't stop.  I came across this iMac and was hoping to do the same thing.  I bought an Apple TV 2 nd gen and it just stops and stalls due to no buffering.  So that's not working.  If I can connect the iMac to the larger Vizio with hdmi inputs, 1080 hi def I would allow the iMac to run my Netflix and not ruin here MacBook by letting it run continuously.  I used the MacBook on a smaller 14" and the 26" Vizio with no problems.  The iMac won't see either one though in sys prefs it does show the display but won't mirror.  If you, for some reason, just cannot answer the question, just let me know, I appreciate all your help.  I am at a loss but feel certain there is a way to do this.

  • Full Elastic HD Suspension...MEGA 651.

This is the first time I tried an elastic HD suspension setup.  It's really a tight fit in this MEGA 651, but it's in there with a 1/2" clearance on all sides. I mounted the drive on a 4mm aluminum plate, which provides some thermal transfer/cooling. I used some fairly small elastic straps, from a drug store....I think kids use these things in their hair. (?)
The case is relatively thin aluminum, and if you mount the HD as intended, the whole case vibrates. This setup stops all that.... I suppose you could apply a similar setup in other cases.
This is the first time I've seen this technique in a SFF. Works good.   :D

Looks nice Bluefront, I already enjoyed looking at your photoalbum earlier.
My HD hangs in a Zalman cooler. It was a tiny fit, but it doesn't touch the case at all. The rubber bands I attached for the vibration and I used some cable ties to get it on the right heigt. I actually saw this setup on the MP forum, and I decided to remove all the inside metal as well and achieve some less noise...
I am still dubbing to install an extra fan by the radio module to stimulate some extra air flow, for the temps it would be good but it has to be a real silent one. I will see, at the moment I have pretty stable temps...
Once in a few months though, I have to take the vacuum cleaner to get all the dust out of the heatsink cooler, it blocks all the air.
To demonstrate the setup I add some pics as well:

  • My Camera Is Recording Color Bands Can Someone Help???

I use a samsung sc-hmx20c HD camera to record my ps3 video game footage
For some reason when i record there are red and blue lines of color either up and down or in circular directions.I use a tripod and turn all the lights off in the room.
The camera also automatically adjusts the brightness on its own which is annoying because it should stay the same when i set a custom white balance and set the shutter speed to 1/30 right?? . My Tv is a samsung plasma 1080i and i see no color bands but my camera sure does
Another thing, Should i be recording my gameplay in 1080i or 1080p. They both have the color lines and i cant figure out how to get rid of them. If someone could please help that would be awesome because this is frustrating me. Thank you very much here is a pic of it. look at the sky

Those bands of color are called moiré. A simple explanation is that the pixels in your camera sensor are not quite lining up with the pixels on your monitor, which creates those weird bands. If your camera can lock focus (turn off the autofocus), the easiest solution is to lock the focus when the picture is sharp, then move the camera back slightly (say a half inch to an inch and a half) so the picture becomes slightly (slightly!) out of focus. See if that helps reduce or eliminate the bars.
The camera also automatically adjusts the brightness on its own which is annoying because it should stay the same when i set a custom white balance and set the shutter speed to 1/30 right?? .
You need to lock the exposure, not just the shutter speed. Setting the shutter speed alone will cause the camera to adjust its aperture to correct fur changes in screen brightness.
Another thing, Should i be recording my gameplay in 1080i or 1080p.
If you can lock the focus (turn off the auto focus), and lock the exposure (check your camera's owners manual for how to do this) I would start with 1080i and see what that looks like, If you are happy, then problem solved.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problemi Aggiornamento Garage Band 10.0.2

    Gentili amici,
    Potreste gentilmente aiutarmi?
    Sistema Operativo OSX Mavericks 10.9.2
    Grazie

I had the same problem with Garageband (not being able to download and install instruments & loops), called the tech. support. They wanted me to do the following:
    - Click App store
    - Click store on the top bar
    - click "check for unfinished download". (at this point, I realized that I started and paused the download of Imovie and I photo earlier)
    - Somehow the downloads were completed. (If not, complete all the updates you have started)
    - Tech service asked me to run Garageband, said it will download the "instruments and loops" and work normally, which was actually the case.
    - Tech. service explained that these softwares are a complete package (Ilife), so the paused updates caused the problem.
I hope it works for you and for the other people having the same problem as well.

  • Why is my LTE speed so slow on my iPhone 6.  I've tried multiple locations in Los Angeles and get ~7 meg. download.  A friends iPhone 6 on AT

LTE download and upload speeds are slow on my iPhone 6.  I also tried this on a co-workers iPhone 6 and got the same results, approximately 7 meg download.  A friend with an iPhone 6 on AT&T is getting ~35 meg download.  Is there something wrong with the network.  I've tried this in 5 different areas in Los Angeles.

Are you on band 13 or band 4?  13 is the original LTE band and remains relatively congested. Band 4 is the XLTE band and is less congested and has higher overall potential bandwidth (15 MHz vs 10 MHz). Even so, 7 Mbps is more than enough for doing stuff on your phone and is not considered slow.
    To check band,
    dial *3001#12345#*
    select serving cell info
frequency band will say 13 or 4
FInd an area with band 4 and retest.

  • Beginner garage band question

I put something together (calling it a song is a stretch) in Garage Band for a function at my daughters school. It's supposed to play continuously for about 40 mins. It's 4 minutes long so I want it to loop 10 times. I did share to itunes and was able to get an mp3 on my ipod What is the best way to make this 4 min garage band song loop for 40 mins and play from a cd? Can I set Garage Band to loop 40 times and export to itunes?

IF, the song can be looped seamlessly, You can use the cycle function to make it loop endlessly. Once you have that going to your satisfaction, download a copy of the freeware Wire Tap, which will allow you to record an almost unlimited amount of time (I think it is only limited by the HD space you have availabel, and yes, you are looking at 400 megs easisy!) from any source on your computer. Make sure the very end of the song goes seamlessly to the beginning. Then, simply hit the record button on Wire Tap, and quickly the play button in GB, and then watch the clock. Stop the Wire Tap recording at 40 minutes, and voila! You have a single 40 minute loop of your song to burn to a CD, with no worrying about iTunes settings at all.

  • Iweb vs garage band file size

I posted this in iweb and thought maybe that was the wrong place. I opened garage band...found a simple piano loop...added it to timeline thing...made it loop for about 30 seconds by draging it. I saved it as the small option for sharing and it ends up around 9 megs. How can an itunes song be 2-3 and a simple 30 second loop 9? How can I make it smaller for iweb and how do I export or put it on my page properly? Mainly how to make it smaller??? I have never used garage band befor, am I missing a step?
Thanks and sorry for the double post!!!

I asume you used GB3's Share > Send Song to iTunes. Then, under iTunes, if you're using AIFF format (as I do), it's going to be bigger than an MP3 or AAFC file. Forgive me if this is a "duh," but if you go into Preferences > Advanced and change AIFF to MP3 or AAC encoding, you can then Command-click to convert the track into a dupe with the smaller format.
Those formats are pretty universal. I've streamed as well as put them in my Public iDisk folder in my old Homepage site. And while I haven't gotten to my iWeb version...
You might want to check out, in GB3, the feature under File > Save As > Compact Project. There you can select 64, 128 or 192 kbps AAC. You may/not need to also select Archive in the same screen. I haven't used this yet or read about it - someone else would know better - but it seems to me that it's (not a compression tool but) a streaming buffer optimizer.
Hope this helps. I'll want to visit back here myself, soon as I get cranking on my own stuff.

A ver compañera, estás confundiendo tres conceptos.

  • Painfully slow data transfer on Airport Extreme (Start and stop over 6 hours for 200 megs)

I've had my airport extreme set up for 2 years with 2 hard drives attached for my files.  I have never had a problem with transferring to them until this morning.  I have been unable to transfer anything to the drives at all.  Every file I have attempted starts, will get about 10% through the transfer (regardless of size) and hang.  I left one file "transferring" to see how long it would take - a 183 meg file took over 6 hours!
I have restarted the APE, the drives, the computer and check all connections.  Nothing has changed from yesterday to today.
I don't even know where to begin with trying to figure out this issue.  Can someone please help?

The new Airport Extremes and Time Capsules suffers from terrible performance over the 5GHz band and it's a problem that not only affects me and you, but hundreds of thousands of other owners.
Nobody knows if it's a firmware problem or the Marvell chips inside that's the problem, and Apple hasn't said or done anything for months.
I'm still hoping for a firmware update to solve this, but if it doesn't get fixed soon enough, I'm gonna return it and go back to backing up to wired disk and my rock solid Airport Express.
Not the happiest answer, but at least you have a clue now.
    Cheers,
    Koski

  • 30 minutes of music 300 Mega Bytes?

Hi...I just recorded 30 minutes of music from my keyboard in Garage Band and I was really surprised to see the file 300 Mega Bytes...According to my calculations it should not be any bigger than 30 MB. And then when I wanted to listen to it in Garage Band I kept on getting messages that " Part of the song can not be played....", I guess because it is such a big file and the song would not play properly...Does anyone have an idea? Thanks...

I am talking about the GB file itself
Than, as posted, the size is about right (inside the GB file is an AIFF file, so the 10MB/Min applies)
So should I use a MIDI controller/interface of some sort?
Only if you want to record MIDI.
I can compress the file in the "Save As" option but from what I have read it will alter the quality
    Correct.

  • SATA Hard Drive no longer recognized by Mega 865

I recently put together an MSI Mega 865 barebone system with the following specifications:
Processor: Intel 3.2c Ghz (Northwood core)
Hard Drive:  Western Digital SATA 10kRPM Raptor
    Memory: 1 GB (2 x 512MB) Kingston 3200 (400Mhz)
DVD Player: Plextor 8X DVD RW
Video Card:  HIS Excalibure 9800Pro 128 MB
    OS:  WinXP
Finally got everything up and running, and then I went to boot up, and the system can no longer find the SATA harddrive.  In fact, it's not even an option in the BIOS now.
    My question is the following:
Would the SATA be available all of the time, or only if a SATA enabled harddrive was recognized?
When the system is first powered on by plugging the power cord into the wall, the hard drive makes a small amount of noise, as if it's spinning a bit.  When the computer starts up, there is no noise at all, although the hard drive does get warm (which makes me think there is power to the unit).
I tried the 2nd power supply (old IDE) for the hard drive, but that provided that same results as the SATA power supply.
There were some inconsistencies with my mega 865 prior to this.  First, the HIFI would randomly lock up, and the only way to get it back was to unplug the computer from the wall.  2nd, it had lost communication on the serial port (why, I don't know).  3rd, and final, it doesn't seem to recognize my hard drive (or my hard drive is ruined).
Can someone help me out here, I'm not sure whether to return my HardDrive, my MSI Mega 865, or both.

The system worked for 4 days or so.  One day, I started it up, and it couldn't boot because it couldn't detect the SATA drive.  When this happened I decided to flash it to the the latest BIOS, but even this did not help.
The unit had problems before, it would lock up on initial power up, the HIFI/CD/DVD would not respond (when the computer was not on of course).  I would have to plug and unplug the unit 3 or 4 times before it would power on and not lock up.
I contacted MSI support, and explained my problems.  They told me to return the unit to the reseller.  I'm not sure if the problem was the unit, the hard drive, or both, so I went ahead and returned the HD and the MSI unit.  It'll be another 2 weeks or so now before I get my computer up and running.  :(

  • Things to know before (and after) building a Mega 865

As I am seeing a lot of the same questions regarding the Mega 865 I created this document,
    29-Oct-2004 Added Northwood benefits
29-Oct-2004 Emphasized NOT to use live update for bios update
    Processors in general
Start with the processor, I would say get something around 3 gighz (give or take) which is quite affordeble. If you are going for a prescott, make sure you upgrade your bios to 1.3 (see below). It will run a bit hot (understatement) otherwise.
    If going for northwood any version is ok I believe. When I chose mine I let $$$ descide, and the prescott was on sale. (If I would buy a CPU for the Mega again, I would most likely go for a Northwood this time). Before buying your processor make sure your processor is supported, you can find the supported processors here;
    http://cweb.msi.com.tw/program/products/slim_pc/slm/pro_slm_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=547&kind=4
    Harddisk
As for Harddisk, I would suggest anything goes but take a serial ata since that is becoming the new standard nowadays.
When buying a HD larger than 130 Gig, make sure you install from a Windows XP SP1 CD (or higher) or divide your HD in smaller pieces. Otherwise you will not get a bigger partition than 130 Gigs.
    DVD/CDROM
As for DVD/CD player, there is a special thread (see below) where everyone states if their DVD/CD player is working with the mega (there are some issues with some drives in HiFi mode, EVEN if they are MSI)
Mega PC barebones optical drive compatibility list
    Memory
As for memory, get at least 512 Mb or 1024 Mb if you want to sit cosy. two sticks of DDR400 (a.k.a 3200) will do. Get a a-brand like Kingston, Samsung or look around on the forums what will work.
    Installing Windows XP
Before installing Windows disable your USB devices, if you fail to do this you run the chance of not installing Windows XP on your C: drive (harddisk) and this will cause you trouble later on. After installation is complete you may enable them again.
Prescott processors & full size AGP cards
As for the GPU (Graphics card), this depends on what you are going to do with it. If you wanna try out at showshifting, and viewing get one with integrated TV tuner. Or use the on-board (some people are quite happy with it) and add a separate PCI tv tuner. If you wanna do hefty gaming (Doom3, Far Cry ... etc) you may want to get an better one. I'm quite happy with my Radeon 9800.
Please note; According to MSI, Prescott processors in combination with full-size AGP (add-in) cards are not supported. This is most likely a power issue since the full-size cards use a lot of power to run. Some forum members, stuborn as they are, are running with a full-size card.
Also note that you are installing a full-size card on your own risk in combination with a Prescott processor.
    To calculate your estimated power supply take a look here;
    http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
The following graphics cards seem to be working (please add to this thread if you have tested a full-size card with a Prescott processor so I can add it to this document)
    Club3D Radeon AIW 9800 PRO
    ATI Radeon ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 XT
    ATI Radeon 9800 SE
    AOPEN Aeolus 5900XT 128 Mb
    Wise words from Stu:
If you do not want to take chances, go with a Northwood processor. Apperantly there is little perfomance difference between a Northwood and a Prescott processor, and the Northwood runs slightly cooler too.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 & Bios Update
When installing Windows XP with SP2 make sure you have the latest Bios version loaded (1.3) or install a Microsoft work-around fix. SP2 will not install without it, and you will have a hard time getting your system to work.
    The Microsoft work-around fix can be found here;
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;885626
    The latest bios version can be downloaded here;
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=547&kind=4
    To install the latest bios, I would advise against using live-update. Use one of the following options instead;
    1) Burn a bootable CD-Rom also containing the bios and flash software, (note some of the original Win98 CD's are bootable to MS-DOS prompt)
    2) Create a bootable USB-memory key
--- Download the HP util to create one
    --- http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/20306.html
--- Then create a bootable floppy on an other system or download from
    --- http://www.allbootdisks.com/
    --- (I used the Win98SE No ramdrive )
--- Then use the HP tool (on an system with an floppy drive) and enter a: as the source for booting,
--- and use the above created floppy.
--- Then copy the rest of the files from the a:\ drive (like autoexec.bat, config.sys etc) to the memory key.
--- ... and ... voila one bootable USB
--- make sure in the bios that the boot order of the USB key is before the Harddisk and your set to go.
    3) Attach a floppy drive to the Mega 865
    Bios update failure
Some people still manage to goof-up their bios, by doing the bios update from windows (winflash, live-update). I think there is only one road to travel when this happens, you have to attach a floppy drive to your mega. Then follow the following instructions (Award bios)
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/bios/note/boot.htm
    Good luck !
    PC-Alert
Do not use the PC-Alert version from the MSI website as this does not work together with your Mega 865, instead only use the one on the CD-Rom that was supplied. In general even the supplied PC-Alert has caused a lot of grief (Taking up resources, reboot problems ... etc). If you choose to install PC-Alert, at least remove it from your start-up folder where it is installed. You can always start it manually from the MSI menu in your Start menu.
    A good alternative to Pc-Alert is Speedfan, this program should be able to spot your 2 temeperature sensored CPU fans. You can then connect these fans to the CPU temperature sensor and be able to tweak the RPM's according to your need. Speedfan 4.17 can be found here;
    http://www.almico.com/speedfan417.exe
    Temperatures
As these tiny PC's have very little space, it is quite normal for them to run a bit hot. Do not be alarmed to see CPU temperatures around 60-65 degrees when running on load (depending on your processor of course).
    Wireless Network adapter
As for wireless internet, the mega865 has a built-in mini-pci nic (network card). which supports only the 11 Mbps data rate. I think you have to try it out and see how it goes, you can always upgrade to 54 Mbps. I would suggest to get a 54Mbps access point, so you can always upgrade if needed (54Mbps will also work with 11 Mbps) Some forum members have succesfully replaced their Wireless Network adapters with a 54Mbps one. The following network adapters seem to be working;(please add to this thread if you have tested a wireless 54Mbps network adapter so I will add it to this document)
    Intel PRO/Wireless BG Network Adapter
    6 Channel sound
I recently bought a 5.1 set from Soundblaster. You can connect the 3 connectors to the back of your Mega, then in the Sound util set it up for 5.1 surround sound and you are ready to go. Definately worth it !
    Reboot problems
When you run into problems when the Mega reboots suddenly, watch out for a couple of things.
Always check your event/log viewer. It is in your configuration management, but the easiest way to start it is to enter the following in your Run or Command line entry
    eventvwr /s
Check if you see red-dots in your application section or system section. Google the problems before dropping them on the forum ! (As most problems are not Mega related IMHO)
One problem I had was caused by BITS 1.5, I had to upgrade to BITS 2.0. (I think it was recently released by Microsoft-Update but I mention it anyway). Bits 1.5 caused my Mega to reboot.
    LCD Display / Sound problems
If you have any problems where your front LCD display is not working or your on-board sound is 'missing' first try unplugging your mega from the power outlet (so completely powering down) for 2 minutes. If you still have problems, drop them on this forum.
    LCD API ?
Alas, no external programs are available to 'drive' your LCD display. Nor will MSI release an API/Blue print on how to control it.
If you find anything missing here or have additional tips, please add them to this thread and I will update this document.
Good luck with your Mega !

a truly glorious summing up of the main points asked about the Mega 865 in particular, although many points will invariably refer also to the other Mega series
if i can add my tuppence worth, anyone considering going for a powerful graphics card can always shy away from the prescott
i was reading an article just when the prescott core cpus came out and the review basically said that there wasn't really much performance wise between the new prescott and the older Northwood cores.
obviously newer prescotts have higher clock speeds now (3.2? 3.4??), but surely a 2.8ghz CPU is still going to be powerful enough to play the latest games!! (in conjunction with a top graphics card obviously)
is the extra temp increase surely worth the extra couple of hundred mhz?
