Bandwidth Management for Software

Is there a utility out there that would allow you to allocate specific amounts of bandwidth any software could use? In many download managers (such as Speed Download, Limewire, Azul, etc.) you can easily set the total amount of bandwidth and even per file download parameters. I have always been surprised that browsers such as Safari and even iTunes does not allow you to control the amount of bandwidth it is to use when downloading.
I often find myself in situations where I need to download a large file, and yet be able to continue to surf for example, or else I would like to keep the setting in my iTunes to download podcasts automatically when I launch it. Both Safari and iTunes, will take as much bandwidth as you can throw at them which means that it can grind every other on line activity to a halt (specially when you do not have a blazing fat connection).
Anyone know of any such software?

By giving various jobs different priorities, the effective bandwidth is limited. If you use 100% of the bandwidth for 1% of the time and 0% of the bandwidth for 99% of the time, you are effectively giving the "niced" app only 1% of your bandwidth. And since a computer is digital, there is really no such thing as "instantaneous" bandwidth, as there is in other areas of communication.
If you have 10 processes running and each consumes 10% of your total bandwidth, it does not matter whether the processes are time-shared or bandwidth-limited, when considered over any reasonable period of time.

Thank you for your response.
It would be better for users to not have to log on against a web interface. As this is a hotel they would not want to have the admin effort of creating/enabling/disabling users especially since this will be free.
Instead what would suit their needs is a sort of a protection mechanism against "crazy big" downloads . Ideally without the need of a 3rd party that would require them to buy a server as well .

I have 3 XI system (dev, test, production) and CMS.
For example I have exported the whole component and 2 changlelist into test and production through CMS i.e. production has version MyComponent + changelist1 changes+ changelist2 changes)
Now I want to rollback changelist2 changes on production. I want to have version MyComponent + changelist1
How can I do that?

I want to have MyMapping (version1), MyBPM (version1).
It is not possible to export specific version of objects and as far I know IB will not replace new version on old version.

Bandwidth Management for Wireless Clients

We are looking at putting in a solution at a hotel for Free Guest WiFI
The solution would cover 4 floors and about 120 rooms and some open areas .
In short the hardware would look as follows
2500 controller
1142LAP
2960 PoE switch
878 Adsl router for internet connectivity (20Mbps/1Mbps internet ADSL feed)
One of the concerns raised by the client is that they would like to make sure that no single user could eat up too much bandwidth creating problems for the rest of the users .
Can the above KIT or something similar achieve this objective? As far as I can think of we would require a Proxy server .

ISA 550 Bandwidth Management.

I wanted to know an automated or manual method of bandwidth management for ISA 550 with 1.2.x.x firmware. I currently have 30 nodes on a 2mbps link and if one host starts downloading others are left with very little or no bandwidth at all. Is there a way I can regulate this automatically or manually?

Sounds like Ciscomax got you fixed up. Also wanted to mention, should the need arise, you can do bandwidth throttling. We do this in some circumstances on Guest Wireless networks to prevent guests from hogging to much bandwidth. So, for example, if you wanted to limit bandwidth on a GuestWiFi to 512K/128K, you would do the following.
From within the ISA500 Config Utility, select Networking on the left
Expand QoS and select General Settings
Select to Enable WAN QoS and select Save
Expand WAN QoS and select Traffic Selector (Classification)
Select Add
Class Name:                   G-WiFi (In)
Source Address:                        Any
Destination Address:      Guest_Network
Select OK
Select Add (again)

The problem is I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct. What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps? This is probably a common problem with families wanting to share apps and music without realizing the issues created by this approach. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates. The problem would be how to keep all the apps, etc from being deleted off the second and third phones that were originally loaded from the one iTunes acct. Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. EM Cloud 12c Management Agent Software for linux x86

I need to acquire Management Agent Software for linux x86 using offline mode. I followed steps described in online documentation of Oracle Cloud Control 12c, section "4.2.3.2 Acquiring Management Agent Software in Offline Mode"
I downloaded the catalog file p9348486_112000_Generic.zip, but when I executed import_update_catalog as follow:
/em12c/oms12cr3/oms/bin/emcli import_update_catalog -file=/app/em12c/swlib/p9348486_112000_Generic.zip -omslocal
this error apears:
"Internal error while validating catalog file format: error in opening zip file"

We planning to go one level higher to automat and have more dynamic Software Update Management for Windows Servers. We have SCCM 2012 R2, SCOM 2012 R2 and SCO 2012 R2.
Our plan is to pur server in an AD-Group to get Update Schedule, from the servers will be importet to an Collection for Automatic Update and reboot. If I understand Everything right SCOM can't read AD-Group and put then in an Schedule maintenance mode. SCOM
can read reg value as exempel.
IS there any smar way to make the SCOM Maintenance Mode Schedule dynamic?

You will need a licensed copy of Windows 7, and I recommend VMFusion. You can run the program in Unity mode just as if it were a Mac application. Or, you can install Windows in Bootcamp and run the Mac in Windows when you boot and run it that way. Depends on the resources. I prefer the VM method because it is cleaner and gives you more options as far as backups, etc.

SCCM Software Updates (and SCUP) vs. Application Management for 3rd Party Application Patching

We're getting ready to tackle the phenomena known as Java patching, and I was wondering if I could get your personal preference; SCCM Software Updates (and SCUP) vs. Application Management for 3rd Party Application Patching?
I probably should give a little background on my environment; It's a university atmosphere, so unless it's policy, you have to ask nicely...can't tell people to do things they don't want to; multiple version of required versions of Java for what ever reason,
which need to be identified, grouped together, and then upgrade as much as possible without breaking their old applications.
I was thinking that Application Management probably made more sense where it is more robust, especially for removing multiple installs of Java on a single system, but Software Updates/SCUP looks like it was built for this type of patching, so I'm a bit confused
why SCCM would have two components which essentially did the same thing.
Your thoughts?

For Java version management specifically you can already achieve a lot by using the Application Model in CM12.
You can define supersedence between the different versions, just make sure to opt for uninstall of the older version when defining it.

ANT missing from 11.1.7 software to provision Identity Management for FA

I am provisioning Identity Management for Fusion Applications 11.1.7 version and one of to provision identity management using runIDMProvisioning.sh is to set ANT_HOME but there is no ANT in REPOSITORY (downloaded files), is this part of any zip that I need to unzip ?

I just Installed the Solaris OS 5.10 10/08 on a new Dell Vostro 200. I downloaded the Solaris Bandwidth Manager Documentations but can't find the software itself in solaris.
Does the software come bundled in solaris 10 or does one get it separate?

Why isn't the file size displayed for software updates in the App Store?
My only internet connection is a tether to my iPhone.
My limited bandwidth forces me to manage my data consumption - I am forced to "google" the file size of the software update so I can decide if I have the headroom in my data plan to take advantage of the update.

If you click on the name of the Application in your Updates Available list,
it will take you to the update Imformation for that App.

How can I re-install the OS with Deskstop Manager for Mac

I just downloaded the Deskstop manager for Mac, tried to upgrade by BB software and it gave me the JVM Error 513. Luckily I backed up all info cause I know that means the whole thing is erased. How do I on a Mac re-install the software? When I connect it to the computer it does not recognize it?

Hmm.. that is kind of weird.
I did a quick search and came up with this:

You should be able to restore software onto your BlackBerry by disconnecting and then reconnecting it. BlackBerry Desktop Manager will have show "Connecting" at the bottom of the window, and then it should eventually recognize that software needs to be releases onto it.

Steps to take if BlackBerry is not shown as connected in Desktop Manager for Mac

Hello Community,
Here is a list of steps you should attempt to try and get your BlackBerry detected in Desktop Manager for Mac.
1. Make sure you're using the most up to date BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac. Which is available to download at http://www.blackberry.com/desktop
2. If using a MacBook/MacBook Pro make sure the BlackBerry is plugged in the left USB port close to the screen. If using a iMac make sure you use the USB ports on the Mac and not a USB hub.
3. Make sure you're using a BlackBerry branded USB cord. (There are usb cords out there for charging only).
4. Make sure mass storage mode is enabled on your BlackBerry smartphone. KB Article.
5. Disable Media Transport Protocol on your BlackBerry smartphone. (Options>Memory)
6. Make sure your Mac OS X 10.6 is running in 32-bit mode. KB Article.
7. Make sure ALL other syncing software has been uninstalled and removed off your Mac. KB Article.
8. Perform a battery reset on your BlackBerry smartphone. KB Article.
9. Make sure your BlackBerry smartphone is not hour-glassing or have an application error appearing on the LCD screen. However if there is a JVM 507/513 error appearing on the BlackBerry the Desktop Manager for Mac will pick up the device and reload the software.
10. Make sure "Open using Rosetta" is not running/disabled on Mac OS X. KB Article.

Do you have a media card in your BlackBerry? If so, do you get prompt for mass storage mode?
Also does the mac pick up the media card as a removable hard drive?
Have you tried to do a battery reset as well?
