Bandwidth required for Lync 2013 audio video call

Hi,
what is the required bandwidth required for  lync 2013 audio video call from out side of company network. considering users will use owa integration with exchange 2013  for audio video call.
i tried with lync bandwidth calculator but could not figure it out.
actually i have some remote site where users have connectivity of 160 kbps only.

There are a number of variables such as call type and video resolution, but I would suggest using this table as a guide:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688118.aspx
For example for capacity purposes with a Lync peer-to-peer call you're looking at 57Kbps (86 with FEC)

  • Certificate Requirement for Lync 2013 Standard Edition

I have successfully run the setup of lync 2013 standard edition now I am stuck due to certificates required for lync 2013. when I generate a csr. it show the subjected urls for that.
    hostname.domain.com
    sip.domain.com
    diali.domain.com
    meet.domain.com
    admin.domain.com
    lyncdiscover.domain.com
    lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com
    im.domain.com (External URL)
so if I go for 3 party CA then I need 8 certicate only for internal lync. As I also need to connected federated partner and external user so I need Edge for again I need 3 more certificates
    web.domain.com
    a/v.domain.com
    sip.domain.com
now when I go for these certificate it quit costly and I didn't understand why such certifcates required. can anyone help me to fix such requirement.
Or, what are the necessary url to which I buy 3 party CA rest leave as it is.
I also want to deploy Edge with single adopter as we have only one network so can anyone assist me to proceed it further.
    Talha Faraz Malik

To save on the cost of your third party certificates, I would deploy an internal certificate authority to sign certificates for your internal front end.   For your third party certificate, you would only need the SANs for the edge and for your
reverse proxy and as Edwin said, this can be a single cert with multiple SANs.
For example, for your edge you would need:
    sip.domain.com
    web.domain.com
You would not need A/V as this role does not require a SAN on your certificate.  On the same certificate, which you could also use on your reverse proxy, you'd likely want the following FQDNs.
    lyncdiscover.domain.com
im.domain.com (your external web services FQDN)
    meet.domain.com
    dialin.domain.com
You may also want to consider your internal web services FQDN and include the following so third party mobile devices can connect without needing a certificate installed:
im_internal.domain.com (your internal web services FQDN)
    lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com
I'm sure that's not entirely clear yet, so feel free to ask more questions or what the purpose of each is.
When you say Edge with a single adapter, you mean a single adapter in a DMZ or internal?  You definably want two NICS, both in separate DMZs, but I've managed to get the edge working with a single adapter in a DMZ before.  What you don't want is
the edge in your internal network.

  • Licensed required for LYNC 2013, Sql, Edge

for 1500 users for IM presence, audio video, HA, DR, archive
proposed design :- archive collacted with backend,
DC:- 2 FE server, 2 Edge server, 2 Sql Mirrored,
    DR :- 1 FE, 1 Edge, 1 SQL
is there any flaw in sizing?
Licenses :-  3 FE license,  (FE in DR will need license as it is passive?)
3 SQL licenses :- how to calculate it per core, in my case how much core and how many licenses required?
    thx

Yes, you'll need 3 Lync licenses (you only license the front end and passive will need to be licensed).
For SQL, yes 3 servers.  This article will help calculate your core licensing:
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/briefs/licensing-by-cores.aspx
Sizing is fine provided everything has adequate resources.  3 FEs in the DC pool is recommended.

  • For meeting the loadbalance requirements for LYNC 2013 FE SERVER, which features will be necessary for HLB ?

I has read the deployment guide from some vendors, such as A10 networks and coyotepoint, it seems that HLB will have the ability to load balance the lync flow when it support  L4_VS,  least-connections method, source_ip
    persistence, as follows
    VIP
    Single VIP exposed through ARP
    Source Address Affinity
    Enabled
    TCP Idle Time-Out Interval
    1800 sec
    Balancing Algorithm
    Least-Connections-Based
    TCP Resets on Idle
    Enable
My first questions is: need  the source_ip_persistence among these L4_VS  be shared ?
For example,  there are two FE servers, they are FE-1, FE-2
HLB has two L4_VS, they are   VS_5061, VS_443 (of  course, the vs will be more in real case)
When client-1  access  vs_5061, HLB will dispatch the request to FE-1 according to method,  ok, after a while,  if  client-1 try to access vs_443, will this
connections have to be dispatched to the same RS ( FE-1) ?
Except that this question, there are any other requirement have to be support for HLB ?  such as SNAT ? such as anying else ...
I doesn't know the real communication theory about lync server,  so hope anyone could help me, it is very appreciated

For the other port with HLB, I saw the depolyment from F5 networks,  A10 networks( which are HLB vendor), the following link is one  scheme from A10
    http://www.a10networks.com/resources/files/A10-DG-Microsoft_Lync_2013.pdf
    So I feel that
    A.  The other port should  be able to be loadbalanced by HLB
    B.  The HLB can do it with the only  L4  ability
In fact, I come from the vendor too, I want to know whether our new product (which is one type of HLB) could support LYNC,  want to know any potential requirement when deploy HLB to lync.
In other words, if our produce has the ability as follows
    VIP
    Single VIP exposed through ARP
    Source Address Affinity
    Enabled
    TCP Idle Time-Out Interval
    1800 sec
    Balancing Algorithm
    Least-Connections-Based
    TCP Resets on Idle
    Enable
Will it have the ability to support the LYNC (not just 80 and 443)  ?

  • Total Bandwidth requirement for 720p 30fps video call to mcu 5300 and P2P call

    Hi All,
One of customer purchased 5300 MCU VCSC and VCSE from us.
All infra will be setup in their HQ and all endpoints are from internet. All endpoints will register to VCSE.
customer requirements are 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU with 720p 30fps and point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls.
endpoints are cisco c series endpoints and polycom HDX endpoinds.
They haven't  subscribe the line yet. we need to propose the minimum bandwidth requirement to customer.
    1) what is the minimum bandwidth requirements to achieve 720p 30fps encrypted call to MCU?
    2) what is the total bandwidth requirements for 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU?
    3) what is the total load of bandwidth requirements for 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU and  point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls?
    Thanks advance for you answer!

point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls?
Even with a miltisite license installed on the codec to enable the built in bridge on the endpoint, you're only going to be able to connect up to 3 sites max, the endpoint hosting the conference that has the multisite option + 3 others. You'll have to rely on the MCU to host these conferences.

  • Audio & Video Call Recording Solution for CUCM

    Hi,
I am looking for a audio and video call recording solution for CUCM. The requirement is the recording system shall record all audio & video calls including incoming, outgoing, and station-to-station calls. One cirtical requirement is: The users on the CUCM system shall be able to record video calls for video equipped stations with a push of a button on their Cisco IP Desk set or their Cisco soft phone.
Does anyone know the product or third party vendor who supports audio and video recording for CUCM?
    -Thanks
    Vaijanath

Currently Cisco doesn't support video recording with a push of a button on their Cisco IP Desk set or their Cisco soft phone. Also, I have checked with the third party vendors and they only support the video recording using Passive Call recording (port mirroring).

  • Bandwidth requirement for voice calls

    Hi All,
Need expertise advise on the following concern about voice call.
    1. Bandwidth requirement for video call across all other endpoint(using Polycom / Lifesize end point at their end)
        a)Standard Video
        b)1K HD Video
        c)4K HD Video
    2. Plus can we determine bandwidth required for all the following below:
    a. 1 to 1 VC  end point ( Cisco TP – Cisco TP)
    b. Bridge call  ( Cisco TP to Polycom / Lifesize)
    c. 1 to 1 VC end point ( Cisco TP – Polycom / Lifesize)

Thanks for the info Wayne. I missed out information about the endpoint.
Client using CTS 3010.  Acoording to datasheet it says
11.9 Mbps (1080p, 30 fps best motion handling), 10.1 Mbps (1080p, 30 fps better motion handling), 8.8 Mbps (1080p, 30 fps good motion handling)
    6.4 Mbps (720p, 30 fps best motion handling), 4.5 Mbps (720p, 30 fps better motion handling), 3.1 Mbps (720p, 30 fps good motion handling)2
My question is does the bandwidth required for both ways or only one way?
    And I'm aware CTS 3010 doesn't support 4K video.

  • Lync 2013 Edge Server - Lync Server Audio/Video Edge Don´t respond

Hello, We have a Lync 2013 Infraestructure. (With Windows 2008 R2)
3 front ends servers (pool) and 1 edge server.
We have an issue with the edge server.  Often we lost the Presence , IM and Audio/Video with external/federated contacts
We can´t chat or do any calls.
When we try to restart the service "Lync Server Audio/Video Edge" in the Edge, it never stop...
We try to kill the process MediaRelaySvc.exe without success.
The only way is to restart the server.
The server is up to date with the lastest hotfixes.
There are not events in APP/SYSTEM/LYNC logs in the event viewer.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Please also check if there is any error message on FE Server.
Please make sure the CMS replication is update to the latest status on Edge Server.
Please make sure there is no other antivirus software in Edge Server as Anthony said above.
Please also double check the Edge certificate/DNS is setting suitable.

  • Questions in setting up Security group policies for Lync 2013 Users

    Hi Team,
One of our customer looking for the below requirements:
    ü
B>>> Being able to split users in to groups. Would like to be able to split in to Departmental groups, the groups will be Service Delivery, Finance, Business Development, Clinical Services, Radiologists,
    SLA Team, Call Handlers.
    ü
B>>> Being able to control which users are able to contact or see other users. For example Limit Radiologists to only be able to see Service Delivery and Call Handlers
We know that RBAC policies can be used by Administrator or Technicians who works remotely. However, a user sitting at a server running Lync Server is not restricted by RBAC.
    Question:
Is there a way we can fulfill the above customer requirements in Lync 2013 environment?

    Hi,
On Lync Server side, what you can do is to change the AD attribute msRTCSIP-GroupingID. You can set different value for different groups. Then each group will not able to search the users in other groups with user name. However, they can still search the
users in other groups with the sip address.

  • Lync 2013 Click to Call inserts icon with no src

    Hi,
We have a SP2010 farm and are about to enable Lync 2013 Click to Call for the business
We have one problem with publishing pages though
When we edit a page and enter a phone number the click 2 call icon appears after a second and looks fine, however, all the HTML the IE plugin generates for the icon gets inserted with the HTML source and after publishing the icon has no src attribute, it
    looks something like
    <a title="Call: +a number..." href="#" style="overflow:hidden;cursor:hand;border-top:medium none;height:16px;border-right:medium none;vertical-align:middle;white-space:nowrap;right:0px;border-bottom:medium none; !important;float:none;left:0px;margin:0px;border-left:medium none;display:inline;top:0px;width:16px;bottom:0px"><img title="Call: +a number.. alt="" style="overflow:hidden;cursor:hand;border-top:medium none;height:16px;border-right:medium none;vertical-align:middle;white-space:nowrap;right:0px;border-bottom:medium none; !important;float:none;left:0px;margin:0px;border-left:medium none;display:inline;top:0px;width:16px;bottom:0px"></a>
As you understand there's no image, just a white box with a black border which doesn't look good so for the moment I have to hide it with css
Any ideas on how to make SharePoint not save that HTML in edit mode but still display the icon once published?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Do we need License for Lync 2013 Edge server?

    Hello Team,
We are currently running Lync 2013 Standard Edition Server. We are planning to enable users for External access and planning to deploly Lync 2013 edge server.
    1. Do we need License for Lync 2013 Edge server?
    2. Any other client licenses needed?
    Please advise.

    Hi,
No you don't required any additional License in order to install Lync Edge server. the only license required at OS level i mean windows server licence in terms of Lync concern you don't require any additional License
    check this
    https://products.office.com/en-us/lync/microsoft-lync-licensing-overview-lync-for-multiple-users
    http://lyncuc.blogspot.in/2013/02/lync-2013-licensing-guide-how-to.html
And for client also you don't require any additional license with your existing client license will work for externally as well

Did you meet any other call delay when you using Lync?
As the issue happen for Lync desktop client, it can be performance issue. Please check if there is any error message from FE Server when the issue happen.
Also please check if you have updated Lync Server to the latest version, if not, update it and then test again.

  • OU For Lync 2013 Central Forest deployment when using GAL Sync

    Hello,
We are attempting to set up Lync 2013 in a Central Forest configuration. We have a 2 way forest trust in place. The primary forest being A.com, the secondary forest being B.com. Exchange 2010 is deployed in both forests. Lync 2013 is deployed in forest A.com.
We currently have FIM 2010 installed, using GAL Sync between both forests. For GAL Sync, we have an OU in Forest A.com active directory called GALSync. There are currently contacts in that OU that correspond with the user accounts in forest b.com. Here's
    my question:
When configuring FIM MA's for Lync 2013 Central Forest deployment, can I point the LCSCFG.xml file to the SAME GALSync OU we use for  GAL Sync? Will it see the contacts already exist and just update with the necessary attributes needed to provision
the forest B.com users for Lync? Do I need to create a separate OU for the Lync MA to use? Or, am I going about this in the wrong way?
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Thanks for the reply Anthony
Almost right. The only difference is that the remote users will get the autodiscover url and the ews url from their local domain and dns.
Here is how it is setup:
    Shared public namespace
mycompany.com (email address and sip address use this in both domains)
    Central Forest (mycompany.com)
    Lync 2013
    Exchange 2013
    Autodiscover url
    autosdiscover.mycompany.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    192.168.10.10
    EWS Url
    https://mail.mycompany.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
    192.168.10.11
    Remote Forest (Fabrikam.com)
    Lync 2010
    Exchange 2010
    Autodiscover url
    autosdiscover.mycompany/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
    192.168.11.23
    EWS Url
    https://mail.mycompany.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
    192.168.11.24
User in Fabrikam login locally with their Fabrikam credentials. They have a Lync enabled contact in mycompany. There is a 2 way trust in place. They login to mycompany Lync fine.
When they do the autodiscover DNS lookup, they return the same autodiscover and EWS url, but they point to the local Exchange 2010 since their mailbox and user account still resides there and that is the system that the Fabrikam account has access to.
    Autodiscover works fine for Outlook.
I will take a look at Fiddler
