Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find info on this. My network manager wants me to find out what kind of bandwidth ARD will take up on our links.

  • SNMP Get router bandwidth utilisation

    I’ve got some problems trying to locate a particular counter using the Mib explorer. My Cisco router is 2801 Software (C2801-IPBASE-M), IOS Version 12.4(1a) I’m trying in vain to locate the input/output rate (in bits/sec) for two of my interfaces. I've tried  .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifInOctets (1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10) and .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOutOctets (1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16) both provide the total (accumulated) traffic in/out of the interface which is not what I need. Can anyone advise which OID should I use to get the input/output rate (in bits/sec) for the interfaces?

    we are the MPLS service provider providing MPLS services in India.we notice that Voice quality detoriates as soon as the bandwdith utilisation of the customer links increase more than 60% of link bandwdith particularly with FTP. we have implemented QOS properly. i am told that qos is ineffective if bandwdith utilisation increases more than 60% of link bandwdith. customer should be adviced to increase the bandwdith. Is it true? please help

    AFAIK if u configure strict priority to your voice traffic (i.e.,LLQ for your voice)it shuldnt affect your voice traffic at all regardless to your bandwidth utilsation since it reserves a particular amount of B/W for your voip traffic which again can be configured manually.
    The same you can do under your policy map configurations,hope you are having LLQ in place for your voice otherwise would suggest to look onto that and try out the same.
    And when theres no congestion thts your h/w queue is ample enough to serve your traffic the software queues will be bypassed (which are manually configured) and if theres some congestion then your S/W queues kicksin.
    so in a ideal customer network with voip and other traffic i would go with llq for voip and cbwfq for other traffic based on the traffic patterns using the DSCP,IP Prec values..
    to be more precise you can go for LFI also to slice your packets so that your voip packets dont get backlogged..

    what is the bandwidth taken for every dialog user on a average 3 sessions always connected.(ERP 6.0 ABAP)
    what encryption is suggested during vpn setup ,are there any limitations.
    I am trying to explore  above mentione and request to please advice based on standard industry best  practice experience.

    what is the bandwidth taken for every dialog user on a average 3 sessions always connected.(ERP 6.0 ABAP)
    The amount of bandwith used is minimal..   this is well documented, read SAP Note 62418
    what encryption is suggested during vpn setup ,are there any limitations.

  • Prime\SNMP Monitoring of dynamic interfaces

    Hi - Is anyone aware of a method of monitoring the bandwidth utilisation on a dynamic interface on a WLC?
    I'd like to monitor the traffic on each dynamic interface to generate usage stats on centrally switched guest and employee SSID's.

    You have to get that stats from switch where you defined those SVI. WLC dynamic interface not terminate any L3 traffic  & switch SVI is the place to go.
    If you have netflow monitoring or simple snmp monitoring tool, you can get that stats from the switch.

    The problem is that on some vips after doing an snmp walk I am receiving  0 for bandwidth utilisation.
    When I scan the device I see there is bandwidth usage.

    The Oracle® Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference says (for the I/O parameters for a resource plan):
    >
    Specifies the amount of I/O (in MB) that a session can issue before an action is taken. Default is NULL, which means unlimited.
    >
    Nowhere in the document have I seen a statement on what specific type of I/O (logical or physical) applies to a resource plan. For Exadata Database Machine one can also configure I/O bandwidth utilisation. This is obviously physical.
    As for the I/O parameters for a plan - we'll need a definite reference I think. Or are you referring to something else than the I/O resource settings for creating a plan?
    As far as speculation goes - if this is limited to physical I/O, then a "run away" process that hits the same data again and again will not be a problem according to the resource plan parameters - as this process only generates tons of logical I/O. And likely impacting the buffer cache negatively by artificially making blocks hot in the cache. So limiting a process's I/O to purely physical I/O ito resource management is perhaps not such a great idea. Unless the intention is not to manage the total I/O of a process, but to simply manage how hard that process hit the physical disks. (which is what the Exadata resource manager options do)

  • Parallel and serial SQL

    i would like to have a comparaison between serial and parallel sql (time of execution,cpu cost...):
    1- i have a laptop processor: Intel core 2 Duo T8100 2.10GHz, RAM= 2Go, one disk c:\, OS= WiN7, Oracle 10g database
    2- create table b (b number);
    values insered in b are : 1,2 689,11,122,12,62
    after that i used sql statment 'insert into b (select * from b) ' many times until i have many(14336) recordsin this table.
    3- i lunched the two queries and noted the time of execution of every one.
    the results are:

    You do not have a valid benchmark - invariable in this case the 1st process does more physical I/O, than the 2nd process. The 2nd process benefits from finding data in buffer cache (no need for expensive and slow physical I/O), courtesy of the 1st process.
    A little computer like you have, is also not the type of server platform where one typically uses parallel processing. It provides a non-scalable I/O subsystem.
    As for how faster parallel processing is, versus serial processing, is like asking the length of an arbitrary piece of string. It varies.
    Parallel processing is usually advantageous the more I/O there is to do. A single process will hit an I/O speed limit, while there is still I/O bandwith available for doing more I/O. Parallel processes will be limited to the same I/O speed - but able to, together, do more I/O per second and push the I/O bandwidth utilisation higher.
    Using too many parallel processes can also result in I/O bandwidth being exceeded - and cause a bad bottleneck and worse performance than a serialised process.
    As for using parallel processing on a mere 14,336 rows? I doubt that this suffices for parallel processing considerations. For example, early hours of this morning on a production db of mine, a PL/SQL process ran a SQL that processed and aggregated 8,030,678 rows into 571,623 rows. Elapsed processing time was 19.35 seconds.
    Parallel processing means scalability - but you need to apply it correctly and you need to have the same scalability in the h/w architecture being used.

  • EF class bandwidth for VoIP not fully utilised

    We have a customer who has subscribed to 1M of EF ( Expedite forwarding) class bandwidth ( in a 2M link)for transporting voice, AF1 class 392K for Voice signalling. The codec used is G.729b.The problem faced by the customer is they are not able to fully utilise the 1M bandwidth allocated for voice. The number of voice calls doesn't exceed 30 although there is enough bandwidth for about 35+ calls.There are also no drops seen in EF class.
    Any idea whats causing this? Any specific debug which can be captured on the router when call volume peaks?

    'show isdn call-rate' on some platforms will show you if the call flow is going through a PRI.
    Otherwise there isn't much in the CLI that will tell you this, and you would need VOIP monitoring software.
    'show voice call stat', 'show voice call summary', and 'show call active voice brief' will allow you to see many active calls are up at any given time, but no historical data.
    You may want to try switching from G.729b to G.729. G.729b is going to have a varying bandwidth since it only sends packets when there is speech. If you use G.729 you will have a constant-rate codec rather than variable and you will receive better voice quality and more reliable QoS/bandwidth requirements.

  • HP Procurve 2920: How to display Bandwidth usage by port

    We have recently expanded our Lab network using HP Procurve 2920 switches. Our original installation utilises Procurve 2910 switches and on occasion we have found it very useful to view the Bandwidth used by each port graphically via the web interface. The Web interface for the 2920 is completely different and does not appear to have the above functionality.
    Is it possible to do this with a 2920?

  • RAC Interconnect Transfer rate vs NIC's Bandwidth

    Hi Guru,
    I need some clarification for RAC interconnect terminology between "private interconnect transfer rate" and "NIC bandwidth".
    We have 11gR2 RAC with multiple databases.
    So we need to find out what the current resource status is.
    We have two physical NICs each node. And 8G is for public and 2G is for private (interconnect).
    Technically, we have 4G for Private network bandwidth.
    If I look at the "Private Interconnect Transfer rate" though OEM or IPTraf (linux tool), it is showing 20 ~30 MB/Sec.
    There is no any issue at all at this moment.
    Please correct me if I am wrong.
    The transfer rate will be fine till 500M or 1G/Sec. Because the current NIC's capacity is 4G. Does it make sense ?
    I'm sure there are multiple things to consider,but I'm kind of stumped on the whole transfer rate vs bandwidth. Is there any way to calculate what a typical transfer would be....
    OR How do I say our interconnect are good enough ....based on the transfer rate ?
    Another question is ....
    In our case, how do I set up the warning threshold and Critical threshold for "Private Interconnect Transer rate" in OEM ?
    Any comments will be appreciated.

    Interconnect performance sways more to latency than bandwidth IMO. In simplistic terms, memory is shared across the Interconnect. What is important for accessing memory? The size of the pipe? Or the speed of the pipe?
    A very fast small pipe will typically perform significantly better than a large and slower pipe.
    Even the size of the pipe is not that straight forward. Standard IP MTU size is 1500. You can run jumbo and super-jumbo frame MTU sizes on the Interconnect - where for example a MTU size of 65K is significantly larger than a 1500 byte MTU. Which means significantly more data can be transferred over the Interconnect at a much reduced overhead.
    Personally, I would not consider Ethernet (GigE included) for the Interconnect. Infiniband is faster, more scalable, and offers an actual growth path to 128Gb/s and higher.
    Oracle also uses Infiniband (QDR/40Gb) for their Exadata Database Machine product's Interconnect. Infiniband also enables one to run Oracle Interconnect over RDS instead of UDP. I've seen Oracle reports to the OFED committee saying that using RDS in comparison with UDP, reduced CPU utilisation by 50% and decreased latency by 50%.
    I also do not see the logic of having a faster public network and a slower Interconnect.
    IMO there are 2 very fundamental components in RAC that determines what is the speed and performance achievable with that RAC - the speed, performance and scalability of the I/O fabric layer and for the Interconnect layer.
    And Exadata btw uses Infiniband for both these critical layers. Not fibre. Not GigE.

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 Synchronies, network bandwidth jammed Problem.

    I have installed Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 (Standard Edition) in an about 5-6 Laptops, and I am facing issue that while synchronization is going on, my office network bandwidth is being affected. It utilises huge network bandwidth, and because
    of that network gets jammed. I have configured using IMAP protocol and using my gmail account in that.

    For your first question : YES network issue happen to all Laptops.
    I will explain you the scenario, We are having some where about 80 machines (Including Desktops and Laptops) in our office network, all are working under same internet network. Out of this 80 Users We have 5-6 Laptop users who are using Microsoft
    Office Outlook 2013 (Standard Edition). All these 5-6 Laptop Users are having different amount of mails (items) as well as folders. Once any of these user starts his / her mail client - Microsoft Office Outlook 2013, suddenly our network bandwidth gets chocked
    and because of which my rest of the 80 users are not getting the Internet access. We have to ask them (Laptop user who has switched ON their Microsoft Office Outlook 2013) to close their mail client, Once Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 has been closed my network
    gets stable. At first we thought that it is because of mails are getting downloaded from mail server and hence network is getting jammed, so we did another exercise that let their mails gets downloaded to their local machine and afterwords - next time when
    they will start their mail client network should not be affected. But this network jammed scenario is still there, hence I ought to raise this issue.
    For your information we have tried removing profile, deleted required folders and reconfigured Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 but still issue is being replicated.
    Need your help for the same.

  • RSVP reserved TE bandwidth

    Hi,
    I have a scenerio where i wish to configure a TE tunnel to run across a link which is only utilised as a backup link by the current MPLS network.
    Am i right in assuming the RSVP bandwidth reservation carried out by the TE tunnel would not be seen by the normal MPLS traffic. IE, in the event of a failure the normal MPLS traffic would not see that perhaps 50% of the link is reserved by the TE tunnel and possibly starve the tunnel of the required bandwidth?

    You are right in your assumption. MPLS TE tunnel will seamlessly integrated with the normal IP or MPLS traffic without causing any trouble.
    Also you may want to use 'AutoBandwidth Allocator' for reserving bandwidth instead of allocating constant value manually.

  • Bandwidth over utillised

    Hi there , I am still new in networking .
    I am facing a bandwidth over utilised problem to a remote site . When I ping the eo interfaces at some time , they will be a lot of time out and , I tried pinging a server , it gave the same result .
    I have checked with my service provider . But they say , my line is over utilised . The serial interface is almost 90 % utilised .
    The question is how do I know , or how to check from my router that the Serial interface is fully utilised or the internal traffic is high . Should I check the Ethernet interface also ?
    Any commands to check ....
    Please help .

  • Mac Pro - CPU and Ram Utilisation (don't appear to be fully used)

    We've recently purchase and set-up a Mac Pro running OS X 10.4.8 (latest patches), FCP 5.1.2 and don't seem to be getting quite the performance we were expecting. (Caveat - I'm a IT tech not a video specialist so apologies if I get something wrong).
    A few background details
    Our configuration is as follows:
    Mac Pro Dual Proc/Dual Core 3.0GHz intel
    5GB Ram configured as:
    Riser A Dimm 1 - 1GB
    Riser A Dimm 2 - 1GB
    Riser B Dimm 1 - 1GB
    Riser B Dimm 2 - 1GB
    Riser A Dimm 3 - 512MB
    Riser A Dimm 4 - 512MB
    (think AFAIK this should be the best config for the ram we have?)
    (Slot 1 (in x16 mode)) ATI Radeon X1900 512MB graphics
    500GB Internal SATA HD
    (Slot 3(in x4mode)) FC 2 GB/s Apple card to XRAID (7x500GB RAID 5 with one spare)
    (Slot 4(in x4 mode))Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro
    Xraid seems fine performance wise - Blackmagic disk test shows 145MB/s Read about 100MB/s write.
    Anyhow we have been doing some test rendering but don't seem to get the CPU utilisation above 150% (out off 400%) and also note the RAM utilisation also seems a little on the low side (not using more than 200MB 'Real memory' (as noted in Activity monitor) and any more than 1.2GB 'virtual Memory' despite having lots available (nothing else running)).
    The (DV PAL) file we are rendering is simple consisting of over an 1 hour of Sat TV footage (bout 15GB worth just to test) captured via DV to which we applied some plugin effects (Chroma key, Light Ray and Scrub) once again just to test perfomance.
    Have checked all the settings I can think of -i.e. system settings > Memory and Cache is set to Application = 100% (2560MB) and Still Cache = 20% (482MB). Scratch is Xraid etc. but can't seem to find anything obvious that could bee affecting this. (Also as an aside does anyone know if FCP limited to 50% of total sys memory as it appears to be (looking at the app = 100% = 2580MB) as it seems we could utilise more (in generall)).
    Is this situation be normal? - bit hard to benchmark as our other machines are still 10.3.9 / G5 based with FCP 4.x. The Video tech seems to think its not as big a difference from his Dual 2.0Ghz G5 2GB Ram (3 years old) as he thought it would be (apologies for his vagueness)
    Anything I can look to change/improve - I am concerned mainly about the lack of utilisation? Everything is freshly built straight after delivery

    It probably is mostly a 32-bit versus 64-bit thing in that the big boys like Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, etc. won't "see" more than just under 4 gigs of RAM. So they won't use memory as efficiently. A nice side effect to this is that you can multitask well with several of these apps open at once if you have a around 8 gigs of RAM.
    Also DV (NTSC or PAL) isn't going to tax the system much as far as bandwidth so your maximum RAM usage probably won't be as high.
    Compressor will push the CPUs harder, as will using some other codecs that are more sophisticated than DV.
    Also, I'd think that the new Intels are still new enough that a lot of software might not be fully optimized yet. And in general the G5 PPC machines have a really fat memory to processor bus so that you aren't necessarily going to see a radical speed increase with these new Intel motherboards for some tasks.
    If you have any CPU-based 3D apps like Cinema 4D or similar I'd try rendering tests to benchmark your CPU usage. 3D isn't as RAM intensive but it will push the four cores in my Quad G5 nicely. I'd expect the new Intel Quads to outrun my PPC Quad.
