  • Running games and apps on an external drive?

I have a macbook pro with windows 7 using bootcamp and the hard drive partition is filling up. I can't really assign it any more space on the boot drive because I need it for what's running on the osx partition.
Is it possible to put some games or software on an external drive rather than on the boot drive and run them from there in order to save space on the boot drive?
I would use a 7200 rpm drive with a firewire 800 connection. Would this affect the performance of the games?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Luis,
theat really depends on the games/apps you run.
During installation of these games/apps you might or might not get the oportunity to change the destination folder of where to install the game/app.
Some allow it to install them to a different folder/harddisk and some don't.
But there usually it still some parts that have to be installed on the Windows system partition (c:).
Also depending on the games/apps you might be able to move them after installation but most likely this will only work for a very few of them.
When using the external harddisk you might experience a slight decrease in speed, especially when large parts have to be read from that external HD, but it should be acceptable.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • I have downloaded a game app in itunes. My OS is windows 8, how can I start the app to run?

Hi, I recently installed itunes on my PC. I downloaded a game app and it is showing in the main "apps" screen, but unfortunately I can not run or start the app. clicking on it does not open or do any thing.
    I will aprreciate any help!
    thanks.

Apps downloaded via iTunes will be for iDevices only. They will not run on a computer.

  • How to run classic apps on a Macbook

I do not know where to post this, so excuse me if this is OT. But I ran into this page
    http://www.applelinks.com/index.php/more/sheepshaver23_enables_you_to_run_classic_macos_programs_onmacintels/
I suppose this is a shareware app (not a commercial app) that allows one to run PPC apps and 68K apps on a Intel Mac. Is this correct? If it is, does one need a ROM image? If so I am out of luck as all my PPC native Macs
(well with the exception to my ibook G4) have been given away (could not get a penny out of the Performa's).
Also can I run this app on my ibook? I have a old game created in 1989 that for whatever reason cannot run in classic mode (the game ran fine in my Performa 6360 under 9.1). I have tried to get the developer to create an upgrade, but he refuses, and the company that owns the copyright to the game is out of the Mac business, and besides they would not be too happy about him updating the game to run under OSX. So it looks like since I lack a native OS 9 Mac, I am out of luck.
    John

This is an open-source project. You can get more information here:
    http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:sheepshaver
You do need a ROM image to make this work.

What can i do? Is there a way to switch them?

Nope, sorry but games are currently only supported on the 5th Generation (video) iPods. Also the 1.2 firmware is only for the 5th Generation iPods.

Note that any changes you make in the publish panel in Flash will cause the apps XML to be rewritten every time. You should become familiar with the XML file and avoid the Flash AIR for iOS publish settings panel at all costs. Open the apps XML in your favorite text editor and make the changes yourself.
Use the latest SDK (4 at this time) but your first trip should be to the SDK release notes to verify the date it was last updated, and update as needed:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/air/air-releasenotes.html
After your SDK is up to date, make sure you adjust your apps XML if needed to reflect the correct version of the SDK (4.0 as of now).
At this point, my way around the publish panel is to hit publish with this correct XML file in place and let Flash generate the SWF. Sometimes it might error, sometimes not. The SWF is all I care about. At this point if an IPA was generated I just delete it.
What Flash is doing behind the scenes for you is simply running the AIR SDK's 'adt' command. You can run it yourself from a command line to package your own application. This gets around the Flash iOS publish panel inevitably being outdated as sweeping changes are made from targets (Apple, Android).
Here's a quick primer on the 'adt' command (don't get scared):
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WS901d38e593cd1bac35eb7b4e12cddc5fbbb-8000.html
Scroll down to the "Creating an iOS package for Apple App Store submission" section to see some easy cut and paste commands for you. If you're doing anything advanced like loading external SWFs with ABC and stripping, that'll take a few more commands. But the basics are here.
I update my Windows PATH environment variable to include the full path to my AIR SDK's /bin folder so I can use 'adt' from any location. You might want to consider that. Otherwise you'll need to preface your 'adt' command with that path before using it.
An example of packaging your application with the latest AIR and support for the latest icons/etc might look like this:
    adt  -package  -target ipa-app-store  -storetype pkcs12 -keystore YourDistributionKeystore.p12 -provisioning-profile YourDistribution.mobileprofile NameOfApp.ipa NameOfApp-app.xml NameOfApp.swf iTunesArtwork iTunesArtwork@2x Icon-76.png [email protected] Icon-152.png [email protected] icons SomeFolder SomeOtherFolder
If you just get a commmand error for 'adt', remember you must be sure to preface the command with the full path to the correct AIR SDK /bin folder or it won't exist as a command.
    e.g.:
    C:\AIRSDK\bin\adt  -package  -target ipa-app-store .... etc
Might seem complicated but taken line by line (or parameter by parameter):
    adt  -package
         -target ipa-app-store
         -storetype pkcs12
         -keystore YourDistributionKeystore.p12
         -provisioning-profile YourDistribution.mobileprofile
         NameOfApp.ipa
         NameOfApp-app.xml
         NameOfApp.swf
iTunesArtwork iTunesArtwork@2x Icon-76.png [email protected] Icon-152.png [email protected] icons SomeFolder SomeOtherFolder
Everything after the NameOfApp.swf is a space separated list of files and folders to include.
After you run that command, assuming it can find your .p12 and .mobileprovision (in this example, in the same folder) it will ask you for a password for your .p12.. Enter that and it will compile. That's all Flash is really doing for you when you hit publish, only using 'adt' directly resolves many issues the IDE isn't efficiently updated to handle.

  • How to find good games/apps in the store besides the public reviews?

Hi all, I'm trying to find good games/apps in the store to put on my 32gig touch. I know about the reviews for the games/apps but with so many negative comments for some, for example F***G c**p, reboots the ipod touch every time I play it or run it for apps (insert Maker's name ere) want a refund don't download & giving it 1 star & the list just goes on, out of the one's I've thought I would either buy or download (for the free one's) I've not even botherd as I think to myself. With so many negative comment's the app/game must be rubbish. Doesn't apple review the comments put on the games/apps reviews?. So is there another way to find out what is good/bad in the app store besides trawling though 95% of negative comments? cheers

  • Safari 4.0.3 giving me some problems when  Im on a FaceBook game app.

Sometimes when I am on a certain FaceBook Game app, Safari quits on me, this is just recenly that safari is doing this, Safari has never done this before on my FaceBook Game app. Safari would do this once in awhile on a particular web site page but never on my FaceBook or its Game app up til now.
This is making me mad and Fusterated.
Is anyone else having the same problem?
Does anyone know what is causing this Safari unexpected quiting thing that it is doing?? and can it be fixed, Please someone help me.
    Mrs. Trisha Foster

I would recommend either updating to Safari 4.0.4 or getting another browser. I have three browsers on my Mac, such as: Firefox 3.5.5, Opera 10.01, and Safari 4.0.4 for Mac OS X v10.4 (PowerPC). Opera has been the most successful browser even with the slowest of networks, thanks to Turbo technology brings broadband speeds to slow networks. Opera outperforms Safari 4.0.4 in my tests and pages load quicker. Even though I encounter some problems with Facebook on Opera, the site actually works great with Opera and Opera 10, in my tests, is faster than Safari 4 and Firefox 3.5. Go to the following website to try Opera 10 for yourself.
    http://www.opera.com/browser/
Opera works just as fine with Mac OS X architecture and just like Firefox provides tons of themes, extensions, etc.
The problem may be with Facebook itself cause I think the only version that may be compatible with Facebook is Safari 3 cause I guess Facebook like most websites hasn't kept up with the latest web browsers, which kind of reminds me of my issues with MySpace, where I could edit my profile with Safari but I needed Firefox to change the themes and use profile editor.
If you're running Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, Safari 4 is supposed to use a crash-resistant technology where the plug-ins and the browser are on separate threads that the hard drive reads. So if the plug-in crashes the browser won't and a refresh fixes the problem. Plus, Safari 4.0 on Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard I heard executes JavaScript 50 times faster.
Also you may want to upgrade to 10.6.2 update.
Depending on how long you've had your Mac for, I'd call technical support at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) if any more problems occur so that the experts at Apple can help you with this ongoing problem. I hope it gets resolved cause I'm upgrading from iBook G4 to MacBook Pro in January and I don't want to have any problems like this.

  • My ipod is the second Generation, how can i upgrade  to get the latest game apps and such?

My ipod is the second Generation, how can i upgrade  to get the latest game apps and such?

You probably can't. Many games and other apps now require iOS 4.3 or later, and iOS 4.2.1 is the last version that will run on a 2nd-gen iPod touch. If you want to run newer games, you'll need a newer iPod.  If you want to look for games that will run on your iPod, here's a tip from another user that may help you:
"I was running into the same problem trying to find apps for my daughters Iphone 3g running 4.2.1.  What I did was go to the Itunes store through Itunes on my PC, and then went to the bottom of the main page and clicked "Browse." On the browse page I selected, App Store, Games (category), Kids (subcategory), and then a list of apps appears below.
I sorted by date (oldest to newest) by right-clicking next to "price" and choosing "release date" on the menu that pops up. The date created field will then be showing, which you can click on to sort newest to oldest or oldest to newest.  I downloaded a bunch of free apps starting from the oldest (by name - you don't have much else to go on).  Of the 30 or so I added to my Itunes, about 27 of them were compatible with 4.2.1.
This is defintely not a perfect way of finding apps, but after spending a lot of time searching for a better way this was the best I could come up with."

  • TS1702 I lost all sound in my game apps why?

I lost all sound on all my game apps why?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
IDT Audio Installer - Windows 7.
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • I'M MAD! Majority of games/apps require 2 GHz Intel Core Duo...D:

So to start off, I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
             Memory     2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    What I want:
To be able to play games/apps
    "Why can't you?"
Because they require 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
    So my question is:
IS THERE A WAY I CAN UPGRADE TO A 2 GHz INTEL CORE DUO???
...it makes me frustrated that I have the required OS version yet I still can't play games or use simple apps because of my stupid processor...
What I've already tried (so don't suggest this):
Wine (so that I can open windows required games)
    Updating all my software
    Getting rid of unwanted files
    Downloading X11 (to run Wine)
Watched tons of tutorials on downloading desired games/apps correctly
EVEN BUYING A NEW COMPUTER (this one)
Repeating the above tactics on my new computer
What. must. I. Do. Please tell me !!

I can't even download most apps in the App Store that are specifically in the 10.6.8 category .-.
Get a PC.  They are the best gaming machines on the planet.  Macs are not gaming comps.
