Banner Art question

Hello!
I've a problem with our banner art. We created the banner to the iTunesU specs, but found it was bit too large and hitting the left side of the site. So, I reduced to 600 pixels, but it is still left justifying. I've been looking at the options to refine the site's layout, but can't find how to justify the block.
Any tips?
Thanks,
Harris

I grabbed a copy of your banner image by "guessing" your base URL from your domain name (it took a couple of tries and one swiftly placed right-click on the redirect page to get the image ... but I got it!). The image looks fine to me. It's 600 x 262 ... that should be spiffy so far as Apple is concerned. I think the rounded corners should work so long as your background is the same color (white) ... though they may look a bit odd, left-justified.
Are you asking how to center the banner image?

  • Podcast Art Question

    Hi all,
    Ultra newbie here with probably an obvious question.  I recently submitted two separate podcasts to iTunes, and they both seem to be up and running in the store.  Right now, the art that goes with them is not there--just the generic podcast icon.  I gather from what I've seen on this forum that this is pretty much par for the course--the podcast goes live long before the associated cover art appears in iTunes.  In both cases, when I submitted my feed (I'm using Feedburner), the art popped up on the confirmation page, so I assume all is basically well.
    I have two slightly more subtle questions, though.  First, I've subscribed to both podcasts myself to make sure they would download okay, and they do.  In the case of the first one (the art of rhetoric one), it even shows up with the cover art, even though it doesn't appear in the iTunes store yet (which, I assume, means it's just a matter of time before it *does* show up).  With the second podcast, however, the episode downloads, but unlike the other podcast, the art doesn't get downloaded with it--just the same old podcast icon.  Is this just a fluke, or is this cause for concern that there's something wrong with the image?
    A second minor question is that with the art of rhetoric podcast (i.e., the one that *does* download the cover art with the episode), the art appears, but the right and left edges are cut off just a bit.  I thought I had been incredibly careful to format the jpeg to be precisely square at 300 x 300 (the numbers I saw recommended by iTunes).  It's easy enough to rejigger the jpeg to allow for more margin space, if that's necessary.  The question is this: if I change the link to this cover art jpeg with Feedburner, will it then automatically change (eventually) in iTunes?
    Below are the itunes links to the two podcasts.
    Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie!
    Cheers,
    Ted

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/behind-behind-the-headlines/id451518148

    Hi again,
    I *think* I've figured out the problem.  I was a bit thrown by the note that there wasn't a media file associated with the new Rhetoric episode since I had certainly uploaded one, but thanks to your prodding, I went back and figured out (probably) what the source of confusion was.
    When setting up my podcast feed using the combo of Blogger and Feedburner, the instructions said to make sure to show the link dialog box in the header for each new blog post associated with the podcast in addition to the title.  I did that and was dutifully including a link to the media file in that dialog box when making a new post.  I had assumed that this was the link that "assocated" the linked media file with the blog post (and, hence, the feed generated by feedburner).
    That seems to have worked in the posts for the "Headlines" podcast, but in the Rhetoric podcast, I noticed that I had also linked to the media file in the text of the blog post itself, not just in the link dialog at the top, in the first post.  In the second one, I had not.  When I viewed my feed details in Feedburner, I was given the option to "Play Now" the podcast for the first lecture, but not the second.  I went back and included a link to the media file in the actual text of the blog post for the second lecture, and went back to Feedburner.  Now, I was given the "Play Now" option for both lectures.  I assumes his means that now there truly is a media file associated with this post, and next time iTunes checks, things will be hunky dory.  We'll see.
    I'm still not quite sure why I had to link to the media file in the text of the blog post for one feed, but don't seem to have needed to do that with the other.  It's not a problem to do so, but I'd be a bit more comfortable if I knew why this was the case.
    At any rate, thanks again for the help.  I'll likely have more questions as things continue, but I'm keeping fingers crossed that I've managed to get things up and going now at long last.
    Cheers,
    Ted

  • Serious Album Art Question!

    here is the situation,
    for the songs i have purchased it works perfectly,
    however, for other songs that i have that i have applied album art too, even though when i select it in the iTunes the album art is the same for the whole album, for other albums it seems to pick other random album art for about 75% of the songs, this happened twice overall,
    in that i have deleted all the songs and reloaded them twice so far and it still doesn't work
    please help, feel free to ask any specific questions

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    So the wrong album art is showing up for some songs on your iPod?
    Try this...
    Connect the iPod to the computer. Go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure "Show artwork on iPod" is checked. If it is, uncheck it. Click ok. Now go back and recheck the option. Click ok. Wait for the iPod to update. Is the artwork now there and displaying correctly?
    If not, then do the same steps again. However, this time, let the iPod update and then eject it once you uncheck the option. Then disconnect it from the computer. Now reconnect it and enable the option. iTunes should say "optimizng artwork for iPod"
    If that doesn't work, you may need to restore...

  • Unique Album Art Question

    I have spent days scouring these message boards to make sure I wasn't asking a repeat question. I am running iTunes 7.3.2 and I'm having a problem with album art making it to my video iPod. My iPod will not display album art for half of my music that HAS ALBUM ART APEARING IN ITUNES. I have copied and pasted, and I have clicked and dragged, but my iPod will not display album art for some of my music. EVEN SONGS I HAVE PURCHASED FROM THE iTMS.
    When my iPod is plugged in to my computer, all of the tracks appear to have album art, but when I unplug it and select songs on my iPod, there are some songs, and some entire albums that HAVE ALBUM ART, but my iPod ignores this. Any suggestions?
    I wasn't sure if this was an iTunes problem, or an iPod problem.

    Have you tried restoring your ipod? That would be an easy, first step, provided you have all of your music and media still in your itunes library.

  • Uploading album art question? I have the artwork.

    OK I have the album artwork I am trying to upload in a folder in "my pictures" on my fifth gen I pod. I can go to my library and upload the picture to each song on an album from my folder of album art but I'm unable to highlite and do the whole album in one shot , I have to click each individual song on the album and load the artwork.
    My question is what am I missing in the whole process to load the artwork to the whole album on my i Pod without having to do it for each song on that album?
    Thanks for the help I just figured there was some simple trick I was missing. I even tried the drag and drop method with no luck and I do have the artwork enabled and have all of the ones I did one at a time showing up.

    In the search field in iTunes, type in the name of the album.
    All the songs in the album should appear. Click one of them. Now go to edit-->select all.
    All the songs in that album should be highlighted.
    Right click one, making sure that all stay highlighted. Go to get info. Click yes to the message the appears.
    On the right side of the window that appears is an area for album art. Right click the box and go to paste. The album art should now appear there. Check the box next to the artwork box. Click OK.
    Those songs should now have that piece of artwork.

  • XML Driven rotating banner ad question

    Hi everyone i a very ametur flash designer,
    At the moment i am trying to make a flash banner that rotates banners out randomly and also when the guest sees the a banner they are intrested in they can click on it and it will take them to the respective link. I followed some tutorials out there on how to use xml and flash together and came up with this for my flash code:
    // set random # variables - each must be 0 for first 'while' loop below
    var randomNum = 0;
    var randomNumLast = 0;
    // parent container
    var container_mc = this.createEmptyMovieClip("container",0);
    // movie clip containers
    container_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("loader1_mc",2);
    container_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("loader2_mc",1);
    // preload watcher
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("watcher_mc",100);
    // load xml
    images_xml = new XML();
    images_xml.ignoreWhite=true;
    images_xml.onLoad = parse;
    images_xml.load("images.xml");
    function parse(success) {
        if (success) {
            imageArray = new Array();
            var root = this.firstChild;
            _global.numPause = Number(this.firstChild.attributes.timer * 1000);
            _global.order = this.firstChild.attributes.order;
            _global.looping = this.firstChild.attributes.looping;
            _global.fadetime = Number(this.firstChild.attributes.fadetime);
            _global.xpos = Number(this.firstChild.attributes.xpos);
            _global.ypos = Number(this.firstChild.attributes.ypos);
            var imageNode = root.lastChild;
            var s=0;
            while (imageNode.nodeName != null) {
                imageData = new Object;

        thisLoader._alpha=0;
        thisLoader.loadMovie(data[num].path);
        watcher_mc.onEnterFrame=function () {
            var picLoaded = thisLoader.getBytesLoaded();
            var picBytes = thisLoader.getBytesTotal();
            if (isNaN(picBytes) || picBytes < 4) {
                return;
            if (picLoaded / picBytes >= 1) {

                alphaTween = new mx.transitions.Tween(thisLoader, "_alpha", mx.transitions.easing.Regular.easeOut,0,100,_global.fadetime,true);
                timerInterval = setInterval(imageGen,_global.numPause,data);
                delete this.onEnterFrame;
    function imageGen(data) {
        // random, or sequential?
        if (_global.order=="random") {
            // choose random # between 0 and total number of images
            while (randomNum == randomNumLast) {
                randomNum = Math.floor(Math.random() * data.length);
                trace(randomNum);
            loadImages(data,randomNum);
            randomNumLast = randomNum;
        } else if (_global.order=="sequential") {
            // start at 0, increment to total number of images, then drop back to zero when done
            if (p==undefined || p==data.length && _global.looping=="yes") { p=0; } else { break; }
            loadImages(data,p);
            p++;
        } else {
            trace ("order attribute in xml isn't correct - must specify either 'random' or 'sequential'");
        clearInterval(timerInterval);
    stop();
    XML:
    <gallery timer="5" order="random" fadetime="2" looping="yes" xpos="0" ypos="0">
    <image path="images/12_02.png" />
    <image path="images/600x300callawway_kodak.jpg" />
    <image path="images/BurnerBucksTemplate_600x300.jpg" />
    <image path="images/DEI-594-X-250-copy.png" />
    <image path="images/Wilson_DFY_600X300.jpg" />
    <image path="images/sky_golf.jpg" />
    </gallery>
    Now everything works right so far, my question is how would i make the banners/images into links so when the banner is clicked i can add a link to it so they are taken to that product.

    That code does not go on the button like you would do with on(release) code.  That code will go with the rest of the code you showed.  You will assign an instance name to that button... if you use the code I showed, that instance name will be "btn"--you assign it by selecting the button on the stage and entering it into the Properties panel where it says <Instance Name>.  You will also declare the urlVAriable where that code is...
    var urlVariable:String;
    As for the xml end of things, I will leave you to solve with a little help.  Look at the parse function and try to see how the current xml information is captured and later utilized.   You will essentially create another parameter in each xml node to go with the current "path" parameter.  You can call it "link" or something like that, and it will contain the url that clicking the button will lead to.
    <gallery timer="5" order="random" fadetime="2" looping="yes" xpos="0" ypos="0">
    <image path="images/12_02.png" link="http://www.somesite.com" />
    <image path="....
    </gallery>
    When you parse the xml you will add the link value as another property of the imageData object that you create.
            while (imageNode.nodeName != null) {
                imageData = new Object;
                imageData.path = imageNode.attributes.path;
                imageData.link = imageNode.attributes.link;
                imageArray[s]=imageData;
                imageNode = imageNode.previousSibling;
                s++;
    The rest I will leave for you to sink your teeth into... you need to dig into the code that is used to present the banners and see where assigning the value of the link to the urlVariable needs to happen.

  • What formatting/zooming features do YOU use in Photoshop CS6? (Digital art question)

    Hi, I am a beginner dabbling in digital art, and I was wondering what format you use. Examples include "Default Photoshop size", "U.S. Paper", "Web", etcetera. I feel that the paper, without doing anything to it, is too small for details.
    Also, when what do the pros in digital art do as for zooming in? Do they set it "Fit on screen", "100%", "200%"? I'm talking about maybe concept paintings that have very small and fine details.
    Sorry my questions are sort of awkwardly-phrased. I don't know the correct terminology.

    The size and resolution depends on the intended output.
    In my opinion relevant zooming shortcuts would be cmd-0 (View > Fit on Screen), cmd-1 (View > 100%) and cmd-spacebar/cmd-alt-spacebar to temporarily switch the current Tool to the Zoom Tool.

  • Yet another missing album art question...

    OK, I just received my second 80 GB Apple ipod Classic. The first one was defective out of the box and this (these?) is (are?) my first ipod. I'd heard all the horror stories about itunes and since I have other media players, ripping and tagging utilities I'm happy with, I really have no intention of using itunes for anything more then updating my ipod and manually synching my music.
    I do have one question though. How do I get album art to display for my music? First of all, I unchecked every option in itunes that I could find about updating missing data and downloading album art. I even unchecked the box under My ipod that says "show album art" (maybe mistakenly thinking that was referring to synching album art. All of my mp3's are tagged properly and have the album art, scanned by me from my actual discs embedded in the file in the album art tag. I would think these should display if the ipod is capable of displaying album art, regardless of any checkboxes I've fooled with in itunes but all I get on my ipod are little gray boxes with black musical note symbols in them.
    What did I do wrong? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    That's indeed the reason your album art doesn't show on the iPod. Check this box, maybe resync, and the iPod should show the images you embedded in the mp3-files.

  • Complicated itunes / ipod Album Art Question?

    This is a rather complicated question so I hope someone can help me. I have a 5th gen video ipod and run itunes (latest version 7.5) on Windows XP. I keep all my music on my home computer, syncing it daily with my ipod. I take my ipod to work and attach it to my PC there so I can listen through the speakers. I have to switch my ipod to the Manually Manage Music to be able to play it on that machine. What I want to do is see all the album artwork as I play them on that machine but only the artwork for music I have bought from itunes shows up on the work computer. All the art is on my ipod because if I listen to it detached from the PC all my art shows up on it. And I do have my ipod set to sync the album art.

    If you can find the cover art you want online, you can just tell iTunes to forget the artwork for those songs and add the art you want manually.

  • Ascii-line art question

    Hi,
    I have made a series of ascii-drawings as illustrations for a story book.
    This is very font sensitive and the font that I am using is "Courier".
    An example is shown below.
                                                           ~V~
        ~V~                                          ~V~    )           ~V~
         )                                            ) >-~-<            )
    >-~-<                                        >-~-<  \  /~       >-~-<
    \,,,,\,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,\,,/~,,,,,,,,,,,,,/,,,/~,,,,,,,
    I need to make large sized prints of these ascii drawings, for a gallery show.
    I am a newbie when it comes to digital art production. Any suggestions?
    Would re-typing these pictures in adobe illustrator in Courier font at a large font size work?
    Are there any better methods?

    There is no good reason to convert the type to outlines. Simply export to PDF with fonts embedded. Converting to outlines bloats the file and can result in blotchy text at smaller magnifications. Text realized via fonts using intelligent scaling via the "hinting" in the fonts. There is no downside to embedding the fonts.

  • Album Art Question

    I have a 60gb iPod with Video with 8,000 songs imported from WMP. Album Art shows up on some files only at random, and for some songs within the same album. I have iTunes set to show Album Art. How do I fix this?
    Thanks

    Maybe someone can help me out here. I have absolutely no idea how to show the album art on my nano. Here is what I do.
    I use Anapod to drag and drop the entire folder of the album including the artwork but then the artowrk alwasy ends up in the storage folder. I have tried over and over to use iTunes but this program simply drives me crazy. I managed to import 3 songs by accident from my HD and I have no idea how to actually drag music into it. Can someone please tell me how to achieve this. I know I can adda song by selecting add file or something to that matter, but can I drag and drop a complete album in there with the cover images?
    Thank you for any help on this matter.

  • General Java3D Art question

    Hello everyone, was hoping that someone could point me in the direction of any documentation that might exist for guidelines on building 3d models and graphics for Java3D. Ideally, it would include information about what features are supported, and how settings, on shaders or lighting for example, translate to java3d.
    If something like this doesn't exist, I'd consider making one, so any art related documentation that anyone could point me in the direction of, would also be helpful.
    Thanks in advance for any assistance... Also, I'm new to the forums, so if anyone has a suggestion on a forum this topic might be more relevant to, feel free to offer it. Thanks again.

    Sorry, I think I probably didn't clearly explain what I'm looking for, I'm already a fluent user of 3d studio MAX, with numerous years of professional experience in realtime engines...
    What I'm looking for is what features out of max are supported, and what features translate over to Java3d... For example, the specular settings of a shader on a model carries over it's color from MAX, which is something that I'm not accustomed to in the other engines I've used, so wondering if there is any documentation on this topic, are multi sub object materials supported? is userdata? keyframe animation,? mesh-deformation? bones animation and character studio? Which map channels are exported? can it do reflections? refractions? etc etc... Just wondering if any documentation on this topic exists, either official, or made by users, it's definitely helpful to have as reference when working with any engine.
    Any ideas if something like this is out there somewhere or not?

  • IPhone Album Art Question

    Okay, I've got music playing on iPhone 4.  Phone goes into sleep mode (screen goes off, music still playing)  When I "awaken" the phone (music still playing) with some songs the song's album art appears on the 'slide to unlock' screen.  But for others my regular wallpaper is displayed.  I'd rather have the album art show up all the time when playing.  I have tried to find differences between these song files but can not.  I have added art to all song files but can not change this behavior.  I have tried letting iTunes add the album art, but this does not change the behavior either.  ALL songs show their album art when the iPhone is "awake."  It's only when "awakening" the iPhone while songs are playing that art displays for some and not for others.  Does this make sense to anyone?

    Part of that 157.5mb is probably for files that iPod needs to operate. I removed the album art and other was still about 76mb on my iPod.
    Also, I noticed that if I added a video, the size of other went up about 1-2mb. So there are probably some support files that get created. Also, Games would be in the Other category, as well as Contacts. Audiobooks are probably in the Audio category.
    Even if you never used the iPod as a hard drive, you may want to +Enable disk use+ and open it up in a Windows Explorer window.
    Ultimately, you can use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and then re-sync it.

  • Complicated album art question

    here is what i have: an album made up of songs by different artists - such as an 80's album. I have put the individual album art for each song, rather than one generic album cover.
    so, while viewing the albums in Cover Flow, the first track is generally the album art that is displayed for the 80's album. However, is some rare occasions, a random track within the album is displayed for the album art.
    any idea why, and an idea how to set the album art to come from the first track?

  • Advanced Album Art Question

    (At least I think it's advanced, since I can't figure it out - haha).
    Anyway, I was wondering if album art can be assigned to an album as a whole, as opposed to just the individual songs. Here's what I'm doing. This past year Weird Al Yankovic released five songs online on their own, and then collectively as something he called "Internet Leaks".
    I have the five singles renamed under the "Internet Leaks" group, so they're all together. Each has it's own individual art, which I want to keep. But the collection as a whole has it's own art.
    Here's the collection: http://tinyurl.com/internetleaks
    Is it possible to assign the blue "Internet Leaks" art to the album as a whole while keeping the individual track artworks?

    When a track has multiple artwork the *Now Playing/Selected Item* box grows two triangles at the left & right of the title bar. Click these to view the different art without opening the *Get Info* box. If you use the triangles to select say the second image and move from track to track you will still stay on the second image until you hit a track with only one image.
    The "default" album artwork, displayed in Cover Flow, Grid and the Artwork column in the browser is the left-most art (when viewed in the Get Info. Artwork tab) of the "first" track of the album (where in this context first actually means oldest "date added" value). As others have mentioned there is no separate "album" art as distinct from track art, but you can choose what is displayed by tweaking the appropriate track.
    There are three different ways to add multiple artwork. You can paste a succession of images onto the Selected Item artwork viewer and they will be added in sequence in addition to any images already embedded. You can add also add more than one image to the white box on the Info. tab when viewing Get info. on multiple items. These will replace all existing images and, if memory serves, get added in the sequence 2,3,...,n,1 when adding n images. Finally you can add them individually via the Get Info. Artwork tab, when editing individual tracks. This also gives the opportunity to rearrange the order and/or remove specific images.
