Banshee 1.0 bloated

What do you guys think about banshee, version 1.0 is pretty nice in my opinion, no more crashing for no apparent reason as earlier version did. While playing music memory usage reaches almost 100MB:
direct: http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/7090 … hotps9.png
This is really ugly
I'm still using XMMS, I like how fast it loads +3K of songs, how it _seeks_ through the song, and the great efficiency. What's XMMS is missing is Ctrl + F to search a song. Audacious is slow when quickly changing songs, but it uses 2x more memory than XMMS. Exaile is very nice, even though it likes to eat 50MB of memory, it's speedy everywhere, python does not let you down. I don't like the Amarok like look. Man I wished foobar2000 was written for Linux and GTK+.

Forgive my ignorance (never tried foobar2000), but what would that be like? How is foobar2000 different from other audio players?
mh... back when I was using windows, it was my player of choice, handling large playlist, moreover it's HIGHLY customizable and features a lot of plugins for everything you could wish for. It's not open source, but it's free.
I had many problem switching from it, in fact I'm still using it with Wine to tag my files and adding replaygain's tags to my music; I can't find suitable alternatives to both (maybe I should write them...)
Give it a try...

I used to love foobar2000 until I found out that the configfile was hardlocked and you couldn't change it, which was annoying as hell since it crashed on me every second week... So I would advice to try to find something else but your experience is probably different.
Well, some versions were buggy, but as you say, most of my needs were in using some of its more "advanced" features (scripting and so on); I still use it for tagging my music and for its replaygain scanner.
But as a player I now use mpd (from svn) with gmpc, but I also use ncmpc if for reasons I need it, like when damned Eclipse crash with X altogether or when I have to make some maintenance in plain bash.

I liked banshee because it had ipod support cd ripping clean layout not too bloated......
    Now nothing works
My ipod is not detected Cd import does not allow mp3 ripping interface has broke
    I blame Gnome lol
Why do I have to run dbus-launch does it affect how apps works ?
    It worked fine before
Little upset because I love my music & my ipod

gconftool-2 --set /apps/Banshee/IOBackend --type string systemio
Does allow cd importing to work but I still cannot get it to import as mp3 while ogg is fine it will not work on my ipod
Of course you can use audio-convert ;-)
Have now got extra plugins working so thats something at least
While syncing ipod has stopped working maybe its due to mono I'm not sure
    Seems like ages ago....
cvs version does fix some issues
My knowledge of mono is very limited so have to rely on others to fix problems
tried to post to there mailing list but no help was given maybe I was just telling them what they already knew
I like Banshee and will keep using it if only as a front end player.. just have to watch for updates ...

  • HT3705 Has anyone any ideas why a Pages file v09 exported from v5 bloats from around 212kb to 5.9mb? I had to export existing template files back from the latest version to v09 due to limited features in latest version.

Recently updated Pages because of Mavericks update, quickly discovered how limited new version is, exported altered files back to Pages 09 format and re-opened using earlier Pages. In amending to re-save as templates again noticed a 212kb file has bloated to 5.9mb.
Has anyone any ideas or experience as it will not take long to fill up a 1TB drive at this rate! - I had left behind PC's and MS Office and was reasobaly happy using Pages for business, but it looks like Office for Mac is now going to b eneeded.

Yes, I opened them all with 5 then re-saved as v5 templates. Then realised other problems with v5 so exported them all back v09 as xxx.pages files. Used some with v09 and noticed they had all increased.
I just checked again and noticed that the initial v5 saved templates had typically increased from 412kb to 1.1MB (they do have 4 graphics) - then after exporting the templates are 5.9MB in v09 an dthe files are still 412kb.
I had a similar problem many years ago using RTF files with Word and they kept bloating everytime you edited and saved due to saved or linked graphics?

  • Gif animations bloat?

Fireworks CS3 animated web file bloat?
Hi when I do a web banner of say 16 frames and try to set the
file optimized size to say 50k using the wizard, when I then check
the saved image size it comes to a whopping 244k. As a work around,
I have exported the frames and placed in imageready (good old CS)
and rebuilt the animation and then optimised/exported it and got a
50k file size for the animation. Any ideas as to what I am doing
    wrong in Fireworks CS3?

A link to the png file would be helpful, or at least knowing
    what your
other optimization settings are prior to export.
Note also that in CS3, there is a bug with optimization; if
    the file is
saved first, then exported, additional file space is added to
    the file
for meta data. Save the file, then close it. Reopen the file
    and do your
export. This has been remedied in CS4.

  • How do I deal with project bloat? Long Save time is getting worse?

Here are the FB posts I have got about this issue. I tried to paste them neatly but didn't work.
To be honest I am baffled that such an advanced NLE has so many issues. There should be a warning about the Warp Stabilizer messing up a project I had no idea till now.
This was my question to a PP user group on FB.
I am cutting a 60+ minute doc with lots of source material and the project takes a dogs age to save now which is beginning to interrupt my workflow. I would have thought the save would take less time depending on how much work was done since the last save. I suppose working with Proxies might be the solution but I am already 70% done.
    Here are the responses
Saving the project file on an SSD might be a good idea.
Your project size is slowing you down. Create a couple of projects, each containing a part of the footage. Organized in bins as needed. Call them footage projects. Create an other project named edit and cut in there. Use the media browser to browse the footage projects. Import what you need and use search bins to keep it organized.
If you didn't transcode your footage before you started the project it could be part of the problem. And like the other post says only having the footage you are currently working on will also help. The claim that you don't have to transcode when working in Premiere is misleading because in most cases when working with many different source codecs transcoding will always improve your computers performance.
I had the exact same experience cutting a 90 min feature with 120 hours of Pro Res 4444 footage. Long save times are caused by project bloat, either by having too many assets loaded or a lot of warp stabilizer effects applied. Transcoding will only affect playback performance and exports - it doesn't sound like it's the problem in this case.
only some codecs (4K GoPro, 6K R3D, lengthy h264/AVCHD clips for example) benefit from transcoding and will be snappier and playback smoother. But transcoding will never ever help the loading or saving time of your project
Don't apply warp stabilizsr to everything. All those coordinates get stored in project file
All I can say is that I worked on a Premiere project in November where my computer spent up to 5-7 minutes scanning through all the different directories with footage after the project was open before I could play back the sequences in my project. I ha...
some of the ftg is in need of stabilization so I did use the warp stabilizer but not excessively. 15 x 3-10 second clips. Is there a way of managing the storage of the coordinates too minimize the hit on the project size?
nope. Try importing existing project into a new project.
I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
I also work with Nested Sequences a lot. Working in short, manageable timelines. When opening a large project, Premiere will find the footage for the active sequence first, so I can start working quickly, while Premiere is still finding the rest of the footage.
Could do your warp stabilizing in AE and export renders of them, then import those renders into your project so the are just media files instead of files with stabilizer tracking points.

I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
That would be something like  the advice I would have given
    and  more likely...
Save heavy duty  FX application until after you have locked down your edit. (eg Blurs , Warp, 3rd party FX(MB)
I Create separate sequences or Duplicate Projects for many reasons.  eg CC/Grade  and
Warp Stabiliser ...definitely.  Its even has a slow save  impact on After Effects Projects!

  • What's bloating my iphone iCloud backup?

Last time I did an iCloud backup it took 2.6 gb but a few days later I tried again and it failed because it thinks the new backup needs 5.4gb to back it up. Where is this bloated figure coming from? I only added one app and it doesn't use much data at all and even taking it off the iCloud list didn't get help. How do I fix this because I feel like its trying to trick me into buying more storage until it says it needs 1tb of storage to backup my iphone :(

Could be a lot of things but I would connect the phone to iTunes and check the usage bar to see how large "Other" (the yellow segment) is.  If it's unusually large, you may need to restore your phone to get it back down to a more reasonable size (be sure to back up your phone before restoring).

I start banshee and then connect my Samsung Galaxy S2 as mass storage. It shows up in Banshee and Banshee starts to scan the folders for files, but at some point it suddenly crashes.
Any idea what is causing the problem here?
Systemd log and Banshee log is below.

Hello, i too have random freeze without any "usable" info.
The blame "may" (well i think it is) be a "baytay + i915 kernel drivers" fault, these thread are intresting :

  • [SOLVED] banshee crashing on startup

Since today banshee is crashing for me at startup. The window frame get's visible for one short moment without any ui content ant then it crashes.
I can't remember doing any package updates right before the problem occured. Deleting all banshee configuration files didn't work (all banshee-1 directories). The error message told me to write "add-auto-load-safe-path /usr/bin/mono-sgen-gdb.py" into ~/.gdbinit which reduced the amount of error messages but didn't solve the problem.
I also tried reinstalling banshee and mono without any success in resolving the problem.
I'm not very good in interpreting debugger messages, so maybe someone has some suggestions on what to try or has experienced the same problem and solved it.
The first output is before creating ~/.gdbinit, the second one afterwards:

'downgrade' tells you that you have the package you're looking for in the cache and you can install it by picking just the number e.g.
    $ downgrade linux
The following packages are available in your cache:
    1) local linux-3.11.1-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz [installed]
    2) local linux-3.11-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
    3) local linux-3.10.10-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
    please choose a version, [s]earch A.R.M or [q]uit: q
You can use '-n' switch to tell 'downgrade' not look in cache and go directly to A.R.M.

  • Project Bloating and Repair in Premiere Pro CS6; Max Project File Size? Adobe Coders Welcome...

    Greetings.
After a few browsing sessions, I haven't found direction for a specific problem within a project bloat. First and foremost; we're always backed up. I have a restoration copy of the project that I will reference herein. Check that off the list.
Numerous people have posted here and around Creative Cow with problems regarding an expanding file size using CS6; watching files go from 300mb to 2.8gb. The unfortunate problem is when the project crosses a magical line that results in an inablity to open, import, export, or access sequences contained therein. Has anyone addressed a solution to repairing Premiere CS6 save files? Reducing file bloat? I haven't seen anything (recall the FCP7 repair days... solutions existed because problems were frequent; thankfully not so bad with Adobe).
Does anyone inside the code size know the maximum project file size that Premiere can read? I created a monster... Over 200 sequences utilizing 4.5TB of footage, stretching from Red codecs to EXCam to MPEG4 and H264. And for some time, the project size was manageable. Then, it inflated. And one day, randomly stopped opening. None of the auto-saves open.
Just curious. Files aren't the problem, but the 2.8GB save file is. Machine specs // etc. are openly available if required; no bad ram, no problems with all projects (just this one beast).
    Cheers,
    Jon Michael Ryan

  • Premiere Pro CS6 extreme project bloating and Media Encoder

    Hi there,
I'm interested in hearing if others are having this issue and if there's a fix.  I first noticed this bug in CS5 and it hasn't changed in CS6.0.1.  An editor I'm working with recently discovered the problem at the expense of a project being usable the day before clients are coming in to work on cuts.
Here's what's happening: we have a 20MB commercial project, no warp stabilizer in play, no frequent "save as..." commands being used, both of which seem to contribute to project bloating based on some online research.  I've been using Premiere as a finishing timeline since CS5 and noticed back then, when we were making some settings in Media Encoder, that when you click and drag sequences into ME instead of using the "Add Premiere Pro Sequence" menu option, the Premiere project file size quickly increases and saves and autosaves start taking several minutes to complete.
We've been using the "Add Premiere Pro Sequence" method to send things to ME on this project but the editor was getting impatient the amount of time it was taking for ME to load the project and get to the point where he could pick which sequences he wanted to encode.  He did a bit of research and found the click and drag method to be faster.  After a handful of times using this method, the project size went from 20MB to 3.71GB.  Our autosave folder is set keep 5 versions of the project and you can see the project size doubling from 477MB to 840MB to 1.6GB.
I was able to import the 477MB project into a new project and save it out at its original size of 20MB.  However, this meant that we lost about 90 minutes worth of work.  I tried to import the 3.71GB file overnight and it had made no progress when I came in this AM.
Reading online, I found that the "Save As..." command had previously caused some kind of duplication of preview file links in the project code.  I opened up our 20MB project in TextWrangler and compared it to the 840MB project's lines of code.  The 20MB project had 400k lines and the 840MB project had about a million.  The difference appeared to stem from links to Preview files.  I wanted to try to clear those out to see if I could get the project size down but, probably because of the file size, TextWrangler crashed.
Is there any way to clean out the bloat from these projects without importing into a new project?  Also, are there settings in Media Encoder or Premiere that will prevent the bloat from happening when using the click-drag method of getting sequences into ME?  We're using the "Use Preview Files" option, which greatly speeds up the compression in ME, but might be contributing to the issue.
    Here are the machine specs:
    Mac Pro 2.66 GHz 12-core
    16GB RAM
    NVidia Quadro 4000
    ATTO Fibrechannel card
    Blackmagic Design Decklink Extreme 2
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
    Best,
    Jon

    Thank you for your response.
-I tried exporting an AVI and the file exported succesfully but with a warning "Adobe Media Encoder Could not write XMP data in output file." The file plays fine though and is over 5.5GB. So that's odd that my h.264 which is under 1GB won't fully export.
-Yes, the same thing happens when exporting directly from PrPro instead of using AME.
-In this project I am using NO Dynamic Links.
-I have not installed any codec libraries.
    -I do not use 3rd party plug-ins.
-My destination drive has several terabytes.
    Thanks,
    Nate

  • Why is the numbers document so bloated?

I have a simple check register spreadsheet. In NeoOffice the file size is 20k, in Numbers it is 232k. Even creating a new empty untitled document in Numbers then saving results in a 124k document. Showing the Package Contents of my untitled Numbers document shows there is a completely useless document-thumbnail.tiff in every Numbers document created. Also, even though I selected the preference NOT to create a preview one is created in Quicklook/Thumbnail.jpg anyway.
Even the actual data portion of the Numbers document is bloated. An empty document's index.xml.gz is 72k vs 20k of OpenOffice/NeoOffice. I took the index.xml.gz unzipped it, ran it through tidy (tidy -xml -wrap 0 -i -m .../index.xml) and looked at the raw xml. It saves all kinds os stylesheet information even if my particular document doesn't use it.
Despite my gripes I will continue to use it because it works for the most part. I second the complaint about being unable to freeze rows or being unable to split the window in two either horizontally or vertically.

I have discovered that iWork files are actually bundles, not pure documents in the traditional sense of the word. Inside one of my test 'Numbers' document/bundle, there is a folder 'Contents' (with a small Pkginfo' file inside of it), a document thumbnail, an index.xml.gz file and a 'QuickLook' folder containing a detailed jpeg of the actual document itself. Obviously, this is meant for Leopard's QuickLook feature.
The .gz file and QuickLook feature take up a combined 136KB of my 152KB document. The same applies to documents created in Keynote and Pages.

  • Pacleanup: A script to clean up package bloat

    Hi all!
Here is my first real contribution to the Arch community! w00t!
Do you install packages just to try them out and never end up using them? Do you forget about them and do they just add to the bloat on your system? Do you want to review the packages installed on your system and remove the packages you don't need/want anymore? I do, so I wrote a small script to do just that.
There may already be a better way to do this that I don't know of. If there is, please do let me know.
Basically, the script goes through the packages marked as 'explicitly installed' and queries the user whether they want to keep or remove the packages. It does some basic dependency checking that will not remove a package if it is required by a package you want to keep. It stores a list of packages that you have previously selected to keep, so that you don't have to select them every time you run the script. An option to review the list of packages to remove is provided. It also, removes unused dependencies.
After the script has done its stuff, pacman will display packages to be removed and it will prompt you to accept the changes to be made. So it is pretty safe. You won't end up removing critical packages unless you explicitly allow pacman to do so.
Suggestions and corrections are most welcome!

    Thank you.
If you mean to skip going through the selection of whether to keep or remove packages, there is an option. Inputting 'd' (for 'Done' ) will skip the rest of the selection process and go right to dependency checking.
    Did you mean something else?

  • Banshee and iPod sync

I've searched everywhere and it looks like I'm either the only person unable to sync my iPod (add music and playlists) with Banshee, or I'm the only person trying it.
Banshee sees my iPod - but I cannot add new files to it, and although it allows me to create playlists, the playlists don't show on my iPod.
I know there are other alternatives out there that have worked for me on Arch (gtkpod, yamipod) - but I really want to use banshee on Arch, and so far I can only get Banshee working with other distros (Ubuntu, Fedora).  Can someone please help me??

also, how are you trying to transfer files onto the device? With me it will not allow me to access fat partitions saying I don't have the permissions so I need to either su or sudo.

  • Best featured "non-bloat" audio library aoftware out there?

I've serached for several days, and read many reviews about different types of players, music library organizers, etc.  Comming from KDE my favorite (and still is) is Amarok, but I do not really care much for the interface now as it moves through 2.0, and contstantly reminds me of my dislike for KDE4.  Not to mention, I'm trying to avoid having any KDE overhead installed on my system, but I just recently put K3B on, and I may have to bite the KDE bullet.
I've tried the following GTK ones, however I get loaded down with GNOME dependencies, which to me are no different than having KDE libs/dependencies installed:
    Sonata
    Banshee
    Exaile
    Songbird
    Rhythmbox
    Qoud Libet
All require some type of GNOME dependencies.  What I'm looking for is something without all the dependencies and similiar functionality to Amarok (devices, album art, lyrics, podcasts, internet radio streaming, all in one place).  Maybe it's too much to ask?
The only one that had potential was ATunes, written in Java, but some of the functionality is messed up.  When I minimize the window, it would dissappear, the tray icon never showed up, and the fonts did not display properly.  other than that it functioned like what I was looking for.

I know is not amarok style, but i love qmmp (qt4 winamp clone) It's light, fast and stable. I found my songs very fast on my playlist (18.000 songs) searching with key J
If you want something similar to amarok you can test cuberok   " yaourt -S cuberok "
