Banshee and streaming .pls files

Hey fellas.
I'm trying to stream some .pls internet radio stations through Banshee 1.4.2 (on GNOME 2.24.3 on Arch64) with no success, but Banshee 1.4.3 under Ubuntu 8.10 on my netbook can stream the station fine.
The Banshee website states that Banshee has supported .pls files since version 1.2, so what gives?

I managed to sort this out by downloading the set of gstreamer-plugins mentioned in pacman after installing Banshee ("gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins" and "gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins"). I hope this will help someone else in the future

  • Cant play rm (realmedia) and streaming link files ...

I recently when i put an rm format file on my phone it said something about it trying to play the file partially and just plays the audio but not the video. I also tried putting the BBC News 24 live streaming file on my N95 today, once it said "tryin to play partially" and the rest of the time it says "unable to connect". Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks

Real player is awful and very picky about what sort of real files it will actually play.

  • Streaming m3u files using iTunes and not QuickTime plug-in

    Hi,
I am listening to mp3 files using a webserver and streaming m3u files. When I click on the url I get the QuickTime plug-in. I don’t like the QuickTime plug-in very much so I would like to have iTunes starting instead of QuickTime.
I have chosen to use iTunes for m3u files but it do not work. If I save the m3u file to my disc and double click iTunes is starting as I want but not when clicking on the link in Safari.
Is there any solution to get iTunes starting when clicking on a link instead of QuickTime plug-in?
The link looks like this: http://www.samplelink.info/custom.m3u?ltype=SEARCHRESULTS
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I'm generally ignorant in the way of those computer thingies, but seeing as no one else has responded, I'll venture my poorly informed opinion.
It seems to me that what you're asking for can't be done (as yet). What you would need is an "iTunes plug-in" effectively, which I don't think exists.
The only way you could set iTunes as the default for playing m3u is to leave the web/browser context (i.e. by downloading the m3u file) and then opening it with iTunes, which you already know how to do.

  • Multiple bitrate encoder creates 3 seperate events and streams instead of a single event.

I'm using the Niagara 4100 streaming appliance to encode a live multiple bitrate streams for an event. The problem is the Niagara encoder doesn't allow me to attach an event name to the stream url like - 'streamevent%i?adbe-live-event=liveevent', instead it only allows 'streamevent%i'. So in the end I get three seperate events with a stream for each event.
    Like so:
    Example:
    /Events/streamevent1/MNMMNNMxxxxx.stream
    /Events/streamevent2/MNMMNNMxxxxx.stream
    /Events/streamevent3/MNMMNNMxxxxx.stream
    AND
    /Streams/streamevent1/files…
    /Streams/streamevent2/files…
    /Streams/streamevent3/files…
Is it possible to make it work this way without using the 'adbe-live-event' parameter using the .f4m manifest file?
    Thanks,
    Dave

There is a workaroud available but you can try using Flash Media Live Encoder, which is a free tool for better results. Surf to - C:\FMSHOME\samples\applications\livepkgr directory and you will find a main.asc file in there. This is the server side scripting file that is attached to the livepkgr application.
In this, edit the var liveEventName variable and set it to the event you want to attach your streams to eg - "liveevent".
Now create a separate copy of your livepkgr application inside C:\FMSHOME\applications\ like livepkgr_mbr and replace the main.far file with the main.asc you just edited. Now while publishing, connect to this application livepkgr_mbr and just specify the stream name - livestream%i. Check your permissions before starting the recording.
This should work for you. But please remember that doing this will cause all your streams to be associated with the same event - liveevent as you are hard coding that inside the main.asc file. So its best to keep a separate application just for this purpose.

  • How to insert a streaming audio file/link into a basic HTML page?

I am a novice webmaster managing the website for our arts organization.  I am trying to build a simple table on a page of our site that will have about 30 streaming MP3 audio clips for our members to review.  I'm using Amazon CloudFront and Amazon S3 to host and stream these files (using an embedded JW Player?).  Can someone explain to me how to insert these media files into my Dreamweaver page in the most simple way?
Up until now, I've been just inserting downloadable MP3 files as quicktime plugins (also hosted at Amazon S3) but with 30 files that gets pretty cumbersome because they all begin to progressive download at the same time.
    Thank you.

I simply want a basic playlist for  MP3 files.  What is the type of playlist I want in that case?
    XML would work.

  • Streaming audio / .pls files?

I am trying to listen to KCDX's streaming audio feed.
It takes me to a link to a .pls file. When I click the link it says "Safari cannot download the file."
    Any advice? Here's the link:
    www.kcdx.com/m/
    thanks....

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
PLS is a computer file format that stores multimedia playlists. It is a more expressive format than basic M3U, as it can store (cache) information on the song title and length — extended M3U supports this, too. With PLS version 2, playlists also include a PLS version declaration.
To play these files you need a media player on your operating system that is able to play these files. One of these media players is iTunes.
If you wish iTunes to handle this there is a couple ways
    1. Obtain the URL to the file you are clicking on, Typically if you right click on it and click copy link it will copy the file link location.
Once you have done this launch iTunes - Click Advanced - Open Audio Stream - Paste the link you copied. The link should end in .pls iTunes will now play this file for you.
    2. If you happen to be able to save the file, Simply launch iTunes, Click on File - Open File - browse for the .pls file you saved and open
    3. Launch iTunes - Preferences - Advanced - Use iTunes for internet playback Press Set. Now go to the website click the link and it will auto launch in iTunes.

  • Unable to stream SMIL files unless the html page, swf file and the smil ffile are on the FMS server.

When I place the .swf, smil and http files on the FMS server the SMIL stream test sample works fine
But When I move the files to my web server I get Connection error.
This is the same issue discussed in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/554107
I added a ‘base’ variable but it did not work for me.
The SMIL file has the correct path to the sample files and FMS server
         <meta base="rtmp://200.200.200.23/vod/" />
I am able to stream files from my html file on my webserver not the FMS server by pointing to the FMS server at rtmp://200.200.200.23/vod/mp4:sample1_1500kbps.f4v
Is this a domain security setting? If so, where do I change it?
If not How do I get FMS to stream SMIL files without installing a webserver with FMS?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I think there is bug with that videoPlayer.swf which is used by index.html of webroot folder of FMS to play media files, its not able to parse smil file correctly. I used some other player and used the smil file and kept it on http server other than fms server so it was able to dynamically stream videos. So I would suggest you to create your own player which uses smil file. You can take help from the below link to create player:

  • Streaming video using Frontpage 2003 and Quicktime .mov files

What is the proper way to stream video files. I created a .mov file using iLife and I use Frontpage 2003 to upload to my website.
I read in Microsft's official book on FrontPage2003 that all I had to do was to insert a movie file into a web page, just like inserting a picture. I was also told that I do not have to have the file on a streaming server, I could just keep it on the regular web site.
The file does download to the browser, but it does not start the video playing.
Do I need to do something elese? Or do I have to have the file on a streaming server.
    Thanks
    George

"Streaming" QT files requires Streaming Server software.
Your files probably just "download" via http protocols.
And, since the recent update to Internet Explorer for PC's, the page code syntax has changed from that used in your FrontPage files.
Your "page code" tells the plug-in what to do with your file. If you're directly linking to QT content then it is bypassing the plug-in and your entire file must download before playback can begin.
    Some links for you:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61011
Explains the structure needed for embedded files.
And now, the new news from Microsoft regarding Internet Explorer:
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html
You need to change the "tags" to include autoplay="true" (and a few extra tags for the new M$ update).

  • When I save a pages document as a pdf and then try to email the document, it loads as an application octet-stream dat file instead of a pdf. What's happening?

When I save a Pages document as a pdf and then try to email the document, it loads as an application octet-stream dat file instead of a pdf and recipients can't open it. Some load correctly, but about half don't load as a pdf. What's happening?

    Hi mjmonck-
Which email provider are you using? There are different solutions possible for different providers. Yahoo is having trouble with attachments, outside of any Firefox issue. I've seen a Google user fix this by manually adding the mail URL to their ad block program- which mistakenly perceived the webmail page as an advertisement.
    Hope this helps.

  • Files and Streaming

Hi. I am loading a big text file to a JTextPane and I'm using a URL from getResource() and URLConnection to get the stream. I'm using InputStreamReader to read the stream. The problem is the whole process is slow. A 139kb text file would take an hour to get. The technique im using is a simple one, straight from the io tutorials.
Another question on files: I have a JProgressBar for the above stream, but I use separate File object just to get the filesize. And I'm chaning the program in to an applet and using that File object violates applet restrictions and therefore cant be read. How do I get the filesize from a URL or any way that is valid from an applet?
    Thanks.

Hi there. I think I solved it. The problem is inside the loop that reads the stream I have:
    contents = contents + (char) buf;
where contents is the String that eventually gets setTexted in the textpane and int buf is the read byte from the stream. It is slow because when the string gets bigger, appending a single char to it becomes slow. I thought about it when I put a progressbar with it. The bar decelerates in time, therefore something inside is getting slower.

  • PE7 and Exporting Quicktime Files for Streaming

PE4 saves Quicktime (H.264) files with the header at the end, so trying to stream them as they download in a Flash player doesn't work (the entire file must download before it will play).
Has anyone with PE7 had any luck streaming Quicktime files? I wish there was a way for me to ask an Adobe developer if they addressed this in PE7.

You can definitely export chapter markers to a QuickTime movie. Whoever is playing it back needs QT Player 7.1 (I think) to be able to use chapters though.
Make sure you select Chapter Markers in the FCP export dialog instead of All Markers. I have never tried it with a streaming file but go ahead, be a pioneer and tell us how it works out.

    Hello 0cooldex0,
What library do you used in this scenario? I haven't saw this FSOUND_STREAM from MSDN library.
By the way, winform general is used for talking about Windows Form library, is is using C# or VB.NET but not C or C++. You are not posting in the right forum.
In my point of view, you may choose the forum depending on the library you choosed and post on specific forum.

  • Why do my pls files disappear when doubleclicked?

Someone asked me how to make an alias of a streaming radio station that they could just click, have it open iTunes and play.
While experimenting I found I could drag the radio station off the iTunes playlist to the desktop and it would create a URL. Doubleclicking the URL usually opened a browser, went to the site and downloaded a .pls file to the desktop. Doubleclicking that file opened iTunes and started playing the station.
Fine, I thought, I'll just rename the .pls file and use that as an alias to quickly get to the station. But alas, the .pls file disappears from the desktop once clicked, even if renamed and/or put into a folder.
I explained what I did to the person who originally asked and they were able to rename the files and not have them disappear on their Mac like mine did. Both of us are using 10.4.11.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Try showing the import options and make sure the crop option you want to use is one that is not grayed out.

  • PLS files as web links won't open in ITunes; still say Winamp

Hello.  I apologize if this has been answered, but I searched to the best of my ability, and none of the answers I saw applied to this question.  They all seem to say that I should set ITunes up as my default Internet music player, but that option doesn't seem to exist any more.  I've seen things that tell me to go to  preferences -> advanced -> general, but that general tab isn't there any more.  I can't find a setting for "internet music player", so I thought I'd ask here.   I recently uninstalled Winamp because of various annoyances, knowing that ITunes can do everything it could do and more.  However, now, pls links won't play from either IE9 or Firefox.  I can download the pls file and play it that way by just double clicking it.  I've used the "Default Programs" method recommended for Windows 7 to make ITunes the default player for these files, and it works perfectly until I try to click on a web link.  When I save the pls file, the "File Type" combo box to the right of the file name edit box says "Winamp .pls file".  I'm guessing that the browsers are checking some other area and are finding Winamp as the pls player, trying to find it, failing, and returning to the web page with no error.  How can I fix this?  ITunes works perfectly except for web links.  I can't tell by trying other files because I have plugins that play all the other files I have found.  How do I make ITunes do this?

Hi, Ed2345.  I apologize for clicking the "Correct Answer" button accidentally.  Firefox already has ITunes listed as the default player for "Winamp playlist files" which are .pls files.  I've gone to a few radio stations, some with AAC streams and some with mp3 streams and the results have been the same.  ITunes should be starting for these Winamp playlist files, but that's not happening.  How can I add the equivalent of a file extension setting in the browser?  These seem to be organized by MIME type.  Can I add an extension handler, or perhaps is there a MIME type missing?  If so, how do I add it in Firefox?  I don't see a "New" button.
    V/R,
    Brad
