    Hi,
is step by step process .
Step-by-Step Guide for using BAPI in LSMW
Note! The screen prints in this article are from ECC 5.0. They may differ slightly in other versions.
    Introduction:
This document details the usage of BAPI in LSMW. We have used the example of migration of the purchase order data into SAP.
    Pre-requisites:
It is assumed that the reader of this article has the minimum knowledge required on the Business Object, BAPI, Message Types and IDoc Types.
    Step-by-Step Procedure:
Details of the BAPI used in this scenario:
    Business Object: BUS2012
    Method: CreateFromData
Details of Message Type and Basic IDoc Type:
    Message Type: PORDCR
    Basic IDoc Type: PORDCR02
Let’s have a look at the BAPI first, before proceeding to the LSMW:
    1. Go to Transaction BAPI
    2. Click on Search Button
    3. Enter the value “BUS2012” and select “Obj.type(Technical Object Name”
    4. Press ENTER
    5. Following screen appears:
    6. On the left side of the screen, Expand the “PurchaseOrder”.
    7. Select “PurchaseOrder” and double-click on the same for details.
    Building LSMW using BAPI:
    1. Go to Transaction LSMW.
    2. Enter the Project, Subproject and Object information and click on CREATE.
    3. Enter the descriptions for Project, Subproject and Object as prompted.
    4. Now select Settings à IDoc Inbound Processing
    5. “IDoc Inbound Processing” screen appears. Enter the required details as shown below:
    6. Click on “Activate IDoc Inbound Processing”.

    8. Hit on “Back” to return to the main screen.
    9. Click on Continue (F8). Following Screen appears:
    10. Select the Step 1 “Maintain Object Attributes” and select “Execute”.
    11. Select the radio button “Business Object Method” and enter the following details:
    Business Object: BUS2012
    Method: CreateFromData
    Hit ENTER
    12. Save and click on BACK button. Following information message is displayed.
    13. Now select step 2 “Maintain Source Structures” and click “Execute”.
    14. In this step, we need to maintain the source structure. In our example, lets consider the example of a file with 2 structures Head and Item data as shown below:
Click on Create and name the source structure as HEADERDATA. Now select HEADERDATA and click on “Create” again to create the child structure. Following popup appears:
Select “Lower Level” and click on Continue. Enter the Item data structure name.
Click Save and hit BACK button to go to the main screen.
    15. Select step 3 “Maintain Source Fields” and hit execute.
    16. Enter the fields as shown below:
    17. Click SAVE and return to main screen.
    18. Select step 4 “Maintain Structure Relations” and click Execute.
Select E1PORDCR and click on CREATE RelationShip. Following screen appears:
    Select HEADERDATA and hit ENTER
Similarly do the same for the structure E1BPEKKOA, E1BPEKPOC and E1BPPEKET.
Click Save and return to main screen.
    19. Select the step “Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules” and click on execute. Maintain the Field Mapping as seen below:
    20. Select step 7 “Maintain Source Files” and provide the link for the test file created. (Create a test file with the same structure as defined earlier).
Save and return to main screen.
    21. Select the step “Assign Files” and click on Execute.
Assign the file provided to the source structure. Here the same file is provided for both the structures.
Save and return to the main screen.
    22. Select the step “Read Data” and click on Execute.
    Click on Execute.
    Return to the main screen.
    23. Select the step “Display read data” and click on execute.
Click on the structure name to get the field level values.
    24. Return to main screen and now select “Convert Data”.
    25. Return to the main screen and select “Display Converted data”.
    26. Return to main screen and select “Start IDoc generation”.
    27. Now select the step “Start IDoc Processing” on the main screen.
    28. Return to main screen and click on “Create IDoc overview”. Here the data record and status records of the IDoc could be viewed:

  • WITH LSMW USING BATCH INPUT/DIRECT INPUT/BAPI/IDOCS

IN WHAT SCENARIOS CAN WE USE BATCH INPUT/DIRECT INPUT/BAPI/IDOCS WITH LSMW.WHICH IS THE BEST ONE.PLEASE TELL ME THE SCENARIOS OF USAGE.

It really depends on what you are doing.  There are a lot of "standard" LSMW objects for different business objects, for example, there is a std object for Creating Material Masters, in this case, it is a direct input program. So, the best choice here would be to use the standard program which has been provided, it just so happens that it is a direct input program.  Creating Bill of Materials is another one, but this one is a batch input program, so you have no choice but to go with that.  Of course if there is a BAPI for your business object that would be the next best thing, if a standard object does not exists.

  • Creation of material using BAPI in LSMW without using material no.

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I have a requirement of creating materials using the BAPI in LSMW.
I tried to create a material using the BAPI (Business Object - BUS1001006 , and method - SAVEDATA) which should be created internally, but it is asking the material number to be given externally and my configuration is setup to create the material number internally.
Even I looked into the material type which is associated with the number range and everything looks good.
Is there any solution to create the material by using BAPI in LSMW without passing the material no. externally ?
    Appreciate your help.
    Kalikonda.

    Hi,
it looks like it's not possible to call this BAPI wihtout material number. Here is a quote from BAPI documentation.
When creating material master data, you must transfer the material
number, the material type, and the industry sector to the method. You
must also enter a material description and its language.
    Cheers

  • In LSMW, what is diff between LSMW-BAPI and LSMW-IDOC

    hello all
In LSMW, what is diff between LSMW-BAPI and LSMW-IDOC

    Hi Swamy,
The differences between IDoc and BAPI are as follows:
    IDOC
IDocs are text encoded documents with a rigid structure that are used to exchange data between R/3 and a foreign system.
Idocs are processed asynchronously and no information whatsoever is returned to the client.
The target system need not be always online. The IDOC would be created and would send the IDOC once the target system is available (tRFC concept). Hence supports guaranteed delivery.
With asynchronous links the sub-process on the client can be finished even if the communication line or the server is not available. In this case the message is stored in the database and the communication can be done later.
The disadvantage of asynchronous links is that the sub-process on the server cannot return information to the calling sub-process on the client. A special way for sending information back to the client is required. In addition, a special error handling mechanism is required to handle errors on the receiving side.
IDOCs may be more changeable from release to release.
    IDOCs  are poorly documented.
    BAPI
BAPIs are a subset of the RFC-enabled function modules, especially designed as Application Programming Interface (API) to the SAP business object, or in other words: are function modules officially released by SAP to be called from external programs.
BAPIs are called synchronously and (usually) return information.
For BAPIs the client code needs to do the appropriate error handling.
Problems with synchronous links occur if the communication line or the server is temporarily not available. If this happens, the sub-process on the client cannot be finished (otherwise there would be data inconsistencies).
Synchronous links have the advantage that the sub-process on the server can return values to the sub-process on the client that has started the link.
BAPIs are not totally immune to upgrades.
    BAPIs are reasonably well documented.
    Reward points if useful.

    Sekhar

  • Upload the data using BAPI in LSMW

    Hi

      2- Method
    fields.
Ex- Suppose i want to upload the Material Master Data then what should be the value of these two fields.
    Thanks
    Mrutyunjaya Tripathy

    Hi
Sorry to say that i am little bit confuse with your answer
1-The business object already contains some object name wheather i have to give object names or different,As you have mentioned to give the tcode than what tcode that would be
2-If i am giving any internal table name in the method field it is giving me error because this field is related to the business object field
    Thanks

  • Uploading phrases with LSMW ERROR..

I created a LSMW to upload all the phrases, when I excute the batch input file in foreground, it goes through, but if I excute it in background, I got error: RAISE_ERROR was called!
Look at System -> Own spool requests and search
    for C14Z_ERROR_RAISE. (An output-device
(= printer) must be given in the defaults
    of your user-profile.)
    Runtime error OBJECTS_OBJREF_NOT_ASSIGNED has occurred
    Transaction error
Any idea what I should do?
    Thanks

    Hello
I have never tried to use LSMW to do a phrase import because there are many EHS checks which need to be passed before you can import phrases successfulll and because of the fact that the EHS functions are really sufficient to do an import.
Furthermore I have never used LSMW before because EHS does have numerous import/export functions which are recommended in import/export.
In any case: most of EHS activities (import/export) require the "existance" of a spool printer. May be you have not defined a default printer in your user profile an LSMW is requiring that too. Normally EH&S is providing a "log" file in the SAP spool so that you can control the result.
So check your user profile if there is a SAP printer assigned.
    With best regards
    C.B.
PS: some rare article exsist in SDN Forums regarding the use of LSMW in EH&S. I found this one: Using BAPI In LSMW :   (EH&S Module )
    and this one:

  • BDC , BAPI n LSMW

    hi friends,
Tel me a snenorio wher u should go for BDC , BAPI and LSMW....pls dont give technical defintions....pls suggest me the snerios.....
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards...
    Balaji

    Hi,
    <u><b>BAPI:</b></u>
SAP created the Business Framework to allow the technical integration and exchange of business data among SAP components and between SAP and non-SAP components. Important components of the Business Framework are the Business Application Programming Interfaces (BAPIs), which represent visible interfaces at the component boundaries and whose properties serve to integrate these components.
The integration can include both components within a local network and components that are connected with one another through the Internet.
BAPIs allow integration at the business level, not the technical level. This provides for greater stability in the link, and independence from the underlying communication technology.
You can get all the standard SAP BAPI functions with the transactions code 'BAPI'.
    <u><b>BDC:</b></u>
Batch Data Communication or BDC is a batch interfacing technique that SAP developed.  It is mainly used for uploading data into the SAP R/3 system.   BDC works by simulating the user input from transactional screen via an ABAP program.
The data input data file will come in the form of a flat file which the user save as file type txt file or prn file from the Microsoft Excel program.  An Abaper will create a program to read the text file and upload into the SAP system.
Normally, the tcode SHDB will be used to record the transaction code the user used.  After, the simulation, the Abaper can generate a sample program and modify from there.  It makes the programming easier and faster.
    <u><b>LSMW:</b></u>
No ABAP effort are required for the SAP data migration.  However, effort are required to map the data into the structure according to the pre-determined format as specified by the pre-written ABAP upload program of the LSMW.
The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) is a tool recommended by SAP that you can use to transfer data once only or periodically from legacy systems into an R/3 System.
More and more medium-sized firms are implementing SAP solutions, and many of them have their legacy data in desktop programs. In this case, the data is exported in a format that can be read by PC spreadsheet systems. As a result, the data transfer is mere child's play: Simply enter the field names in the first line of the table, and the LSM Workbench's import routine automatically generates the input file for your conversion program.
The LSM Workbench lets you check the data for migration against the current settings of your customizing. The check is performed after the data migration, but before the update in your database.
So although it was designed for uploading of legacy data it is not restricted to this use.
We use it for mass changes, i.e. uploading new/replacement data and it is great, but there are limits on its functionality, depending on the complexity of the transaction you are trying to replicate.
The SAP transaction code is  'LSMW' for SAP version 4.6x.
For those with the older SAP version (4.7 and below), the data migration programs might not have been pre-loaded.
You can download the LSMW at no cost from SAPNet under Services, SAP Methodology and Tools, category Tools.
If you are an existing SAP customer with an OSS ID, you can access the SAP Service Marketplace to download the  LSWM for your Basis teams to install to your SAP system: http://service.sap.com/lsmw
The LSM Workbench carries out the following tasks:
Reads the transfer data from one or more files (for example, spreadsheets, sequential files etc.)
Converts the data from the source format into the target format
Note that with background processing, the input file must not be located in the presentation server. Access to presentation server files is only possible when you are working online.
    Regards,
    Bhaskar

  • Need help with LSMW fro specific case

    Hello,
I am going to create project on lsmw for data migration from legacy system. In this specific case it is not just migration of the data to SAP system but its processing the data an dthen creating objects in SAP system. Hence its very perfomarmace critical.
I amn using Idoc and BAPI in lsmw.
My question how to improve performance here .
    My options:
    1. Call the API(which is processing the data) in side the BAPI with new task for each independent set.
    2. No need of (1) if I am doing parallel processing in step idoc processing. Here lsmw itself provides parallel processing of Idoc.
    3. Use FPP . but since FPP can be integrated only for data in database, I would need to first store the incoming data in a temp tables and then call API in FPP run where API reads data from temp tables .
Can you please suggest from your experience which is the best technique to improve the perfromance in this situation ?

    Hello Suresh,
Thank you so much for resply.
My proiblem with lsmw is that I cannot call API in background job but it wil run in dialog process.
That was one reason to think of storing it temporarily and tehn processing it in FPP.
But just today I came across what is called as data transfer workbench help document where it says that you can process job in background . Can anyone confirm this ?
If yes then my next question is how to enable parallel processing using workbench

  • Problems after transfering Cost centers with LSMW

    Hi,
I have a problem after transfering Cost Centers with LSMW.
The first Batch input run created all cost centers in one CC Group erroneously - cause they should be placed in different CC groups.
I changed LSMW settings and made another batch input run - now the Cost centers were created in proper groups. I think that I deleted all CC's created in previous batch input run, but now I am not too sure, because there is a problem...
Cost centers exist both in their proper groups and in the one group mentioned by me before. So there is such situation that Cost center appears in Standar hierarchy twice at the same time.
When I delete cost centers - they are removed from their proper groups but the CC entry remains in that one group - all CC are there inactive.
How can I get rid of them. I tried deleting them - but it's impossible - the system doesn't see them.
When I run the batch input again - the same cost centers appear in proper groups and at the same time they become active in the one group. The standard hierarchy group is not UNIQE.
Please advice me how to delete these entries from standard hierachy.
    Best wishes,
    Karol

    Hi,
Always recommended before loading into live system: upload in test system and check. check again just to make sure all is correct before real load.
In your case you probably would have been best to do a group change after incorrect upload.
Do Ambiguity check in stadnard hierarchy to explore all incorrect entries. Depending on your version yo ucan change in that function (ECC6) ore need to run a report. Before running the report check that CC master records have correct entry. The report is RKCORRH1
Again, try in QA first and run in Test Run
    Good luck

  • JCA IConnection call to BAPI with table in table as import and export param

Is it possible to call a BAPI with a table in table as import and export data?
Please give small code example if this is possible.
    Thanks in advance.

Inner tables can be handled with:
    IRecordSet innerTable = (IRecordSet)outerTable.getObject("INNER_TABLE");

  • Hi gurus, can any one explain me about Badi & Bapi with eg.?

    Hi gurus,
Can any one explain me about Badi & Bapi with examples.
    Regards
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu
    1) Badis means:
The BAdIs of the enhancement concept are not treated as standalone objects, but are integrated in the overall concept. Thus, the tools for defining BAdIs are part of the Enhancement Builder included in the ABAP Workbench.
Transaction SE18, up to now the only entry point for defining classic BAdIs, now manages classic and new BAdIs. When an existing BAdI is displayed or changed, it analyzes whether the BAdI is a classic or a new one, and then switches to the respective tool. In the case of a new BAdI, this tool is the enhancement spot editor
    2) Bapis means:
BAPIs can be called within the R/3 System from external application systems and other programs. BAPIs are the communication standard for business applications. BAPI interface technology forms the basis for the following developments:
    Connecting:
New R/3 components, for example, Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) and Business Information Warehouse (BW).
    Non-SAP software
    Legacy systems
Isolating components within the R/3 System in the context of Business Framework
Distributed R/3 scenarios with asynchronous connections using Application Link Enabling (ALE)
Connecting R/3 Systems to the Internet using Internet Application Components (IACs)
PC programs as frontends to the R/3 System, for example, Visual Basic (Microsoft) or Visual Age for Java (IBM).
Workflow applications that extend beyond system boundaries
    Customers' and partners' own developments
    Thanks
