Bar code question

I haven't done anything with bar codes but I know one can do bar codes in Designer. I also know that in order to use dynamic bar codes I have to pay more money in order to use them. But I can add bar codes that are not dynamic that someone would be able to scan with out having to lay out any additional cost?
We use bar codes on many of our items that are generated by a bar code software which are then made into eps files and brought into QuarkXPress documents then printed. Now I hear that all forms we do are going to need a bar code.

You can certainly use most barcodes in Designer without having to pay extra. All the barcodes are located in the Barcodes tab in the Library palette.
I believe the extra costs come into effect when you start using our Paper Forms Barcode technology which lets you encode field values into a 2D barcode on a form which will be filled-in electronically, then printed, signed (manually with a pen) and mailed/faxed back to your company. I believe you would then need our software to decrypt the encoded field values.
Other than that, you can put barcode objects on the form and set their properties using the Object palette. In particular, you can set their values at design-time (using the Object palette) as well as at runtime (using script) so if you know the value of the barcode that your form requires, it's simple.

  • PDF417, 2D bar code questions

Does anyone have experience (or can anyone point me to documentation) regarding the 2D bar codes supported by Documaker?  We are using 11.5, and are interested in evaluating PDF417 or DataMatrix (or others) for scanning purposes.  We have implemented a PDF417 solution using section rules rather than the bar code type in found in 11.5, but I am interested in using it for something other than New York ID cards.  To that end, I'm not sure the PDF417 guide that I have found in the documentation section of the support site is useful, as the data we hope to bake into a PDF417 bar code wouldn't be parts of drive names, VINs, etc., I'm hoping there is a way to create our own name-value pairs for sue with the bar code.  Is this possible?  I have no experience with DataMatrix, so I am curious if we can implement a similar solution using that technology as well.
    Thanks!

  • Question on bar code 128 B (BC_C128B)

    hi all,
i have 2 question of creating a custom bar code 128 Bvia SE73.
1.for conventional system bar code, what is the correct step or parameter to fill up to get the code 128 B to print. I've created one but fail to see the bar code printing.
    2. for the new bar code technology, which Code128 Mode (N,A,C) i suppose to choose if i want to use BC_C128B.
    thank you.

    Hi
The code set128 is having  below modes
    AUTO:
The starting code set is determined automatically.
    A:
Start the barcode with code set A. Code set A encodes all uppercase and ASCII control characters.
    B:
Start the barcode with code set B. Code set B encodes all uppercase and lowercase characters as well as printable characters from the space (32) to DEL (127).
    C:
Start the barcode with code set C. Code set C encodes numeric digit pairs 00 through 99.

  • How to print BAR CODE in SAP SMART FORMS

    Hi,
I want to print inspection lot's BAR CODE in the smart form, but i dont know the way how to print this into the smartform.
if anyone have any idea, please suggest me how to print this as it is urgent for me to complete the object.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Abnish Jain

    Hello Abnish,
    Welcome to SDN.
We are able to print barcodes from smartforms. Doing this way, we print barcodes on laser printers.
We are also printing from sap to zebra printers using two ways:
    1. Download the data to an excel sheet, then creating a macro that opens the printer port and sending the commands to the printer through this "file". All this is done via vb script provided with excel)..
    2. The second way is creating a vbscript (an ascii file from sap) with the printer commands and then runing it using ws_execute.
You need a barcode reader to read the barcodes, and this scanner acts like a keyboard, it sends the data scanned to the active field on screen. (which might be a notepad, word, excel or an input field or ... ).
From 4.6c on, you can use smartforms to print barcodes without buying any barcode.dll software nor hardware extention like Bardimm on any laser/inkjet printer (Please Note that I haven't mentioned Zebra printers here!). To do this, you have to create a smartstyle -> character format with the desired barcode font (defined within sap). Then in the smartform, create a window, put the field and associate it the character format. That's all (I mean, that's all we do at least :-). I think, you have to consider the barcode specifications before sending the barcode value to the smartform (Just an example, if you're using 3 of 9, the code should start and end with an asterisk - '*' -) We're printing an interleaved 2 out of 5 barcode in our invoices due to a legal requirement, and we did it this way.
    3. If you have a barcode scanner, then you should not need reading the barcode into an ascii file to get the data read in an standard or custom screen field. You can read it directly to the field you want. (unless... you have complex data coded in the barcode - for example if you're using an ean-ucc 128 compliant code and you're sending several fields in a single code ... In this case, an interface is almost mandatory because you must interpret the data fields according to the ucc standard, split the code into several fields .... and .... pure programming logic ).
To put it clear: if you have to read, for example, a barcode that holds the legal number of an invoice using a barcode scanner and this number should be sent to migo-> bktxt then you don't need an interface. The scanner itself acts like a fast operator entering the characters using a keyboard and filling in the field.
We're reading barcodes in several places (when we finish each pallet, when we receive an invoice, and so on. Each case is a different screen. We arent using an ascii file to read these barcodes. Furthermore, we read the invoice legal number into migo bktxt field (Head Text).

  • Generate bar codes in mail forms

    Hi,
I know how to insert Bar codes in smartforms, but I need to print the bar codes in Mail Forms, is that possible?
    Thanks a lot,
    Nuno Moreira

    Hi Gregor,
What I need to do is:
I have several mail forms treated as a standard response in ICWC. We are using the e-mail view (in ICWC) mainly to print the forms, via smartforms or in “online” mode without smartforms.
So, at the moment, I have two questions:
    1) If I use a smartform to print the mail form, even if I create the form in plain text and create the bar code into mail form, when I print the “number” it is not converted in a bar code;
    2) If I generate the bar code in a mail form and I try to print it in ICWC e-mail view the number is not printed as a bar code too;
Thanks a lot for your help and interest,

  • ArchiveLink Late storing with bar code in Records Management

I want first to archive a document with the scenario Late storing with bar code over archive link (function module ARCHIV_BARCODE_GLOBAL) and right away adding the barcode document to a record in records management.
For both i need a business object (expample DOCUMENT or RECORD). When i want to add a archived document to a record i do need a DOCUMENT_ID to create a POID. But i do get the poid only after the document is scanned and finally archived. At the time where I insert the barcode with the function module archive_barcode_global, I don't get back a document_id. This is the first problem. The second problem is, that I can't use the business objects from Records Management (document or record) for the barcode scenario since there the business object ID is expected and the business object id for the business objects document or record is the document id.
The only way seems to create two business objects. one for the storing with barcode and one for the connection to records management. and i seem only to be able to create a record and inserting the archived document after the document is really scanned and archived.
My question now is, does anybody knows a way where i can use the archive link scenario late storing with barcode and being able to add the future archived document right away to a record? I want to do both in one step and only want to use one business object. Is this possible?
    Thank you very much.

I am trying to do the same and would a appreciate a response to this question.

  • Bar Code entry while trying to create one through FB03

    Hi Guru
We recently had techical upgrade to ECC6.0. While trying to create a barcode entry for a document through FB03 I am getting the following error message
oa280 - Bar code not active -system administration .
All the configuration are in place in OAC5,OBD2 . I couldnt able to find any relevant notes regarding to this issue . Can some one help me out in fixing this issue
    Thanks
    Auroar

    Hi
I raised the question to SAP and they provided me the notes 173521 as suggested by  you . But  following this note will open bar code entry access for all user and for all accounting document which will be an issue .  After few trial and error I was able to get an solution for this issue .  I created an entry in oac5  with barcode active  for object type and user specified and an another entry with barcode inactive for object type ,document type FIIInvoice and user .  This enabled only the authorized user for bar code entry to make changes . One drawback is that it does allow permitted user for all document type
    Thanks all for your suggestion

  • Incorporate Bar Code in Oracle Reports

    Hi,
I want to incorporate Bar code font in character based oracle reports.Kindly let me know how to go about implementing it.Secondly is there any site from where i can download the bar code fonts freely. Also does Oracle provide Barcode fonts for Oracle Reports.
    Thanks in advance
    Deepak

    hello,
from your question i understand that you want to create a barcode in a character mode report. this will be very difficult as it requires the destination printer to be able to print barcodes. a barcode font will not help here, as charactermode reports do not leverage fonts other than ones available in the printer.
usually it is more to creating a barcode than just printing the value in barcode font. most barcodes need special algorithms to create chechsums and similar stuff.
you might want to look into our barcode example that shows you how to use a java bean to generate a barcode.
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/examples/BarcodeBeanPaper/index.html
oracle does neither ship barcodefonts nor java beans to generate barcodes for production purposes. the supplied sampels are for demo purposes only. however there are several commercially available fonts as well as javabeans on the market.

  • 3D Bar code printing

    Hi,
I was asked to print sample documents using 3D Bar code. Does anyone have any idea on this? Any hints would be really helpful.
    Thank you,
    Chandra

    Hi
Do u want it in scripts or smartforms???
A barcode solution consists of the following:
    - a barcode printer
    - a barcode reader
    - a mobile data collection application/program
A barcode label is a special symbology to represent human readable information such as a material number or batch number
    in machine readable format.
There are different symbologies for different applications and different industries. Luckily, you need not worry to much about that as the logistics supply chain has mostly standardized on 3 of 9 and 128 barcode symbologies - which all barcode readers support and which SAP support natively in it's printing protocols.
You can print barcodes from SAP by modifying an existing output form.
Behind every output form is a print program that collects all the data and then pass it to the form. The form contains the layout as well as the font, line and paragraph formats. These forms are designed using SAPScript (a very easy but frustratingly simplistic form format language) or SmartForms that is more of a graphical form design tool.
Barcodes are nothing more than a font definition and is part of the style sheet associated with a particular SAPScript form. The most important aspect is to place a parameter in the line of the form that points to the data element that you want to represent as barcode on the form, i.e. material number. Next you need to set the font for that parameter value to one of the supported barcode symbologies.
The next part of the equation can be a bit tricky as you will need to get a printer to print that barcode font. Regular laser printers does not normally print barcode fonts, only specialized industrial printers that is specifically designed to support that protocol and that uses specialized label media and heat transfer (resin) ribbon to create the sharp image required for barcodes.
Not to fear though, there are two ways to get around this:
    - You can have your IT department do some research -
most laser printers can accept a font cartridge/dimm chip (similar to computer memory), called a BarDIMM that will allow a laser printer to support the printing of barcodes.
    - Secondly, you can buy software that you can upload in your SAP print Server that will convert the barcode symbology as an image that will print on a regular laser printer. I found that this option results in less sharper barcodes. This option is really if you need to convert a large quantity of printers (>10) to support barcodes.
    - Thirdly, you can buy a third party software like Barcode.dll and install on your frontend PC connected to the laser printer.
Now you have a barcode printed - what next?
Well there are two options, depending on your business requirements:
    - You can use an existing SAP transaction on a regular workstation and get a barcode wedge reader to hook up between the keyboard and the PC. These wedge readers comes in a wand or scanner format. There are even wireless wedge scanners available that allows you to roam a few yards from the workstation to scan a label. This approach is mostly used where you want to prevent human errors in typing in long material, batch or serial numbers in receiving or issuing of material. The problem is that it's just replacing the keyboard input and you are basically locked down in one location and have to bring all the material to that location to process.
    - Another solution is to use SAPConsole transactions
or write your own ABAP Dialog programs that will fit onto a barcode enabled wireless handheld terminal and that will follow the business logic as executed on the shop floor.
These programs are highly complex exercises in industrial engineering and ergonomics because of the limited screen sizes and limited ability to accept keyboard input. The user is instructed step-by-step and only scan and push F-keys to interact with the SAP system. Scan, scan, beep, beep, enter - highly automated.
Only Se71 is used to create a barcode
To Create a Bar code prefix:
    1) Go to T-code - SPAD -> Full Administration -> Click on Device Type -> Double click the device for which you wish to create the print control -> Click on Print Control tab ->Click on change mode -> Click the plus sign to add a row or prefix say SBP99 (Prefix must start with SBP) -> save you changes , it will ask for request -> create request and save
    2) Now when you go to SE73 if you enter SBP00 for you device it will add the newly created Prefix
Create a character format C1.Assign a barcode to the character format.Check the check box for the barcode.
The place where you are using the field value use like this
    <C1> &itab-field& </C1>.
You will get the field value in the form of barcode.
Which barcode printer are you using ? Can you download this file and see.

Can you provide the information how you declared the style for bar code and the font family for that bar code.
and also provide the deceleration in the smart form if possible with screen shot.

  • Printing tab in Bar Code using SAPScript

    Hi,
We are trying to print information from multiple fields in Bar code (using Code128 symbology) on our Utility Invoices, printing of which is done using SAPScript.
Our objective is that when accepting payment using FPCJ transaction, the Cash Desk Operator will use a Bar Code Scanner and import relevant invoice data into multiple fields.
However, for that to happen, it is necesary to print tab feeds between data of contiguous fields using Bar code.
We have tried printing tab feeds in Bar Code using hexadecimal '09'. But it has not helped. Can anybody suggest how one can print tab feeds in Bar Code using SAPScript?

  • Activate Bar Code Entry in GR and IV

    HI guru
In IMG I have activated storing with bar codes to GR and IV by business object type.
When an application document is saved during normal operation, the system checks whether bar code entry is activated for the business object type and a dialog box is displayed for the user to enter the bar code value (bar code manually).
    This is OK.
But now I want to assign internal Bar code.  (so no dialog box and barcode manually) but automatic generation of Bar code.
    Is it possible???

    Ather

It depends on the bar code reader you have - most wil have some sort of interface like DLL and Forms would integrate with that...so its not really a Forms issue - its more dependant on you barcode reader
