Bare Metal image of server, restored to new hardware, loses its new mac

First: the original server is powered off. When the new server comes up it cannot bind eth0 on network (in fact it sets it to inactive). I have to go into system-config-network the mac address will be the old server's nnic mac. I have to delete it then re-detect/rebind, then re-activate. When I look in ifcfg-eth0 the mac address is correct. At the next reboot the situation will repeat.
Somewhere there is a persistent memory of that old hardware!
This is a Tommy Reynolds challenge!

MAC address is also stored in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX file. You might wanna check that one , as well.
Also, make sure that the index / name of the interface has not changed during migration, i.e. on first server you had eth0 active and now it's eth1; or that the same NIC (if you have a server with multiple ones) is active.
If none of this works, then a command like "ifconfig ethX hw ether YU:OR:MA:CA:AD:DR:ES:SS" in a boot script could save the situation...

  • Installing Lion Server on brand new Mac Pro Server

So we received a Mac Pro Server with 3x1TB drives and a raid card last friday.
Unpacked it today and booted it up from the recovery partition and launched raid utitlity, as usual its 3 seperate drives (no raid).
So I deleted the second and third volumes leaving only the preinstalled lion server and recovery hd on the first volume.
Called Enterprise Support and got a few knowledge base articles about installing. One of them being about "internet install" which states if you replace the drive with recovery hd on it you can still boot your machine via internet by holding down Cmd+R.
Doing so leaves me with a Folder and a question mark, so it can't find anywhere to boot from.
Doing the same thing with any new mac delivered with normal lion on it will succeed in booting on the same network from apples internet install.
So how do I go about deleting the primary volume (with lion and recovery hd preinstalled) and creating a raid5 over these three drives?
No USB drive with Lion server delivered. It's not needed, of course not...
No DVD with Snow Leopard server delivered.

Direct Download Links for Adobe Software
Simply install CS5.5 right away and it will ask for the previous serials for verification.

  • Time machine Restore to new mac.

I have been using Time to back up my mac. Now that I have a new Mac Tower is it possible to use Time machine to move files over to the machine.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
You can't do a full system restore, since there are differences in OSX for the two machines -- one Mac's OS won't run on a different model.
But you can "migrate" from the old one.
If you haven't set up your new Mac yet, at the end of that procedure there's an option to migrate (I'm not sure that's the exact word) from another Mac or a backup. It's probably easiest to connect the old Mac and migrate from it; but you can use your TM backups instead.
If it's already set up, you can use the Migration Assistant (in your Applications/Utilities folder) similarly, either from the old Mac or the TM backups.
You do need to be careful, however, if your old Mac was a PPC machine, as some 3rd-party apps may not work on your new Intel Mac. Take a look at Kappy's post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7845144#7845144

  • ITunes Time Capsule restore to new Mac (Odd setup)

Previously I had an iMac with its iTunes library loaded on an external hard drive connected via USB. I also had a Time Capsule that was backing the iMac up including the external iTunes hard drive.
Well I finally upgraded to a new MacBook Pro. About two days later, the iTunes external hard drive died. So now I'm trying to figure out how can I restore my iTunes library from the Time Capsule to a new external hard drive. I tried the Migration Assistant and selected the Time Capsule option but no luck.
So how can I get that TC iTunes library from an old iMac on an external drive no longer available to a new Mac with a new external drive?
I was thinking I could try to hookup the new external drive to the old Mac and try the Time Machine.  Thoughts?  Please help!!

Time Capsule forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/time_capsule.  Also, when you re-post in there it would be helpful to say what you mean by "trouble" and also let them know which iMac you are using and which version of OS X.  You have iOS 5.0.1 listed, but that is not the operating system on your iMac, iOS is for iPads, iPods i.e. iDevices.  Good luck.

  • How to do a partial restoration to new mac?

I have an iMac and it is constantly backed up to an external drive with Time Machine.  Tomorrow I will be getting a new Macbook Pro.  Both machines have Lion. I don't want to do a total restore onto the new Macbook - do not want to override the OX files and apps.  Is there something I need to know about in order to just restore my documents, photos from iPhoto, music in iTunes, and setup for my 4 email addresses in Mail?  I am not a novice to computers, but I have never had to restore anything with Time Machine. I guess I've been lucky.

  • How to restore that NEW Mac Welcome

I am configuring a MBP as a gift and would like the recipient to be welcomed with that wonderful New Mac display, the one with all the Welcome signs, when she first turns it on. Does anyone know how, and if, I can get the Mac to show that welcome after I have configured it?
    Thanks - Lawrence

    Some steps:
First download the "movie" that Apple only plays once and hides deep inside the System Library from here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Welcome.mov
Don't click on the link as that will display the file in a browser window. Control click on the link and "download" it.
Be sure to install QuickTime Player 7.6.6 on the new machine as I've modified the file to "launch" that app and bypass QuickTime X.
In the System Preferences / Accounts / Login Items you can "Add" the Welcome.mov to that account. When the machine is started the .mov file will launch QuickTime Player 7.6.6, play the 55 second movie and then quit the QuickTime Player app.
Once they've tired of seeing the movie they can remove it from the login items list and delete the file.
Major oops on my part as the file doesn't work as intended once downloaded. The fix:
Right click (Control click) on the downloaded file icon and open the Get Info window.
Change the default "open with" app to QuickTime Player and things should work as expected.

  • Can I install Snow leopard server on the new Mac Mini Lion server?

Hi guys, I purchased a Lion Server and I am wondering if its possible to install Snow Leopard server on it.
I have the Snow Leopard Server install discs and everything , just wondering if there is any thing I should take note of, I personally prefer SLS over Lion.
    What do you guys think?

There's a huge thread on this (client, not server, but same concept) which you can find here.

  • Time Machine Backup Restore to New Mac

    Hi!
I have just got a new Macbook Pro with a 500gb HD. However, my old mac had a 750gb HD and I only had 100gb left.
Will this have any issue when I try to import my things back to the new mac?

If you can recover the old machine (may not be worth the cost), then you could deactivate directly. A lot depends on what crashed, the HD, mother board, or other. On a PC, the hard drive can sometimes be recovered with SpinRite as long as the crash was not fatal. There are other tricks too, but all of them depend on the crash conditions and what the problem is. If the hard drive is actually good, maybe you could just put it in another machine and run the deactivation. Of course, not everyone has a bunch of machines on hand to play with. For PCs, I often head to the department surplus pile and see if I can find something to work with (not my stock). If I find a working machine there, then I just swap it out. Of course, that is for work machines. For a home machine, I might do it for testing or repair and then put things back after the repair.

    SAP= Ecc 6.0

    Best Regard

    Hi Imran,
In you have a full backup, using this existing backup further you can take incremental backups. The incremental backup is based on the previous full backup. The full and incremental backups is controlled by RMAN (Recovery manager).
You can take a full backup and restore the same in your new server and later take an incremental backup from your old server and restore it to the new server for all the delta changes made. By this you can make sure that your production data is made consistent in the new server.
If you have sufficient dowtime then, you can take a whole DB backup with redo log files and restore them in your new server.
There is no difference between whole backup and full backup, with respect to the database data.

  • Restoring a new mac from a backup can i only install some programs and files? Dont think there is enough memorie on the mac air

I might be buying a new macbook air to go traveling with.. i have a macbook pro already and want to restore from the backup onto the new macbook Air but am not sure if there is enough memorie on the air... Can i restore from the back up and only put on certain files and programs.. I only really want my photoshop and dont have the serial code anymore..

When using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant you can only choose all or none of the Applications. You have a little more flexibility about the files in your account(s).
What I did when I had to migrate from my MBP to the MBA was to use SuperDuper! to create a clone backup of my MBP. Then I deleted the programs and files (mostly music and video) I didn't intend to put on the MBA. Then when the MBA arrived I used Setup Assistant to migrate everything.

  • Can I install a version of snow leopard server on a newer Mac Mini model?

    Hi-
I have Snow Leopard server running on a Mac Mini from 2010. I decided I really need some redundancy so want to get another and sync them in case of failure. Can I buy the latest Mac Mini model and install Snow Leopard server on it or will it not let me due to some firmware limitation? I've been able to do revert on other models and not others. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

****-So I have to find the latest Mac Mini that will run Snow Leopard Server? I refuse to upgrade to that crap they call server nowadays. It's Snow Leopard server till I move to Linux. Thing is, those Minis cost nearly as much now as they did when brand new. I feel like I'm getting ripped off. Oh well. Thanks for the quick answer guys!

  • Have iTouch 5th won't restore to new mac, not enough storage

Bought a new Macbook with retina display - have an iTouch 5th gen.  EVERYTHING on iTouch is the most current, Music, photos, apps (like Bento).  I did make a backup.  Synched okay but info on iTouch is more current.  No music transferred from iTouch to Macbook.  Music on iTouch non-existent on Macbook.
If i try to sync the first time, system says everything on iTouch will be overwritten!  I made a backup first.  When I tried to restore, system said there isn't enough room!  WHAT?  I'm afraid to restore the iTouch - that would wipe out all the info and put it back to factory settings....Would I have to setup everything again, such as what apps go into what folders, etc?  Do I have to "restore", thus wiping the iTouch before I can restore it to where it was?  HELP! Would "restore", restore my settings?  I spent a lot of time putting apps into folders, etc.
    Thanks-
Coverted from Windows to Mac late 1998 and never looked back!!
    Deb

You changed syncing computer which you do by backing up the iPod to the new computer and restoring from backup. The message you are getting is saying that the restore will end up trying to sync too much media from your iTunes library to your computer.
What I would do wold be delete items from your iPod and from the Mac that do not include apps data that you can stand losing. That includesiTunes purchased music. You can always redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
One you deleted everything you can, make a new backup and then restore from that backup. Then yo can redownload iTunes purchases that yo want and which you have storage for.

  • Trouble configuring my outgoing email on smpt outgoing mail server on my new mac

this is the 1st time i have ever configured my email.  i have just bought a mac computer and it seems as though i was able to set up the incoming portion of my email as i am receiving emails. i used "mail.verizon.net" as my incoming mail server. (i guess this is correct, not really sure)  I have tried a few things but im not having any luck. im dont know if i need to use a custom port. im not sure if i need to use SSL or password authentication. iam really just blindly trying things as ive never done this before. can anyone be of assistance? thank you
    kevin

    Smtp settings are
    SSL on
    smtp to port 465
password authentication required (usually set as use same settings as incoming).  And set to clear Apop or clear text, cannot be secure password authentication
server (unless using yahoo) is outgoing.verizon.nel
    pop3 settings are
    ssl on
smtp to port 995 (which is the standard port for pop with ssl on)
password authentication required.  And set to clear Apop or clear text, cannot be secure password authentication
server (unless using yahoo) is incoming.verizon.nel

  • Time Machine Restore on new Mac Book is taking up a ton of space!

My old MacBook had 120gb hard drive - it died.   Just did a restore from Time Machine ext drive and it's taken up about 280gb.    Any ideas on this?   And how to fix?   Did it add old backups?    Also, my old MacBook was setup with two users (me and my wife).   Weird.   Help.   Thanks.

Sorry to be such a moron with this, but I just don't have much experience with this iPad.  I have had it for over a year and I just keep adding stuff to it and it has worked great.  Now that the memory is used up, I am trying to figure out how to free up space and not lose what I have paid for.
So, Step 1 is complete, as I have "Transferred" all of the purchases.
What is Step 2?  I unchecked the concert on the iTunes library, did a sync, but it's still on my iPad.
    Thanks again for the help!!!
