Barely audible sound from X-fi to Z5500s

(Barely audible sound from X-fi to Z5500s? For the past few weeks every other day or so after turning on my computer I get barely audible sound from my computer speakers (Z5500s) connected through the 6 ch direct. I can make out music or whatever it is, but it's extremely faint. I have an X-fi Platinum with the front pannel, and if I plug headphones into the front pannel I get normal sound. Likewise, anything else plugged into the Z5500s (e.g. iPod plugged into the 6 ch direct) works just fine.
To fix the problem I've been able to unplug the three audio cables going into the X-fi, wait a couple seconds, plug them back in, and everything's back to normal for a couple days. Today it happened, but I can't get normal sound from the card to the speakers no matter what I do (agian, everything else works fine). I tried replacing the cables connecting the X-fi to the Z5500 dock, and that fixed it for about 30 seconds, then it went out again.
So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. In case someone asks, onboard sound is disabled.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I needed to use a mic (arenas in World of Warcraft) so I decided to enable my onboard audio. My plan was to use the X-Fi with the default driver for sound and the onboard audio for the mic. This worked. Today I decided to install the the X-Fi Titanium drivers...just for fun (full install). This is with the onboard audio still enabled. I did one thing different and that was select "headphones" as my speaker type. Now, I'm second guessing myself but I believe it didn't work right after the install. I then lock the screen for a few hours, it either sleeps or hibernates, and I come back to working sound.

Did a few more tests.
) Rebooting with it set to headphones will give me sound.
2) Changing it to 2. sound doesn't produce sound. Change it back to headphones does not produce sound. ?
3) After a reboot, I was playing a mp3 and the sound cut out after 30s.
4) After a reboot, waited 5 minutes, played same mp3 and got no sound.
5) Reboot, disable onboard audio, started to play mp3 and it cut out after 5s.
6) Reboot, disable JMicron AHCI Controller, play mp3 and it cut out after 20s.
7) Reboot, disable HPET Function, mp3 stops after a few seconds.
8) Reboot, plug in headphones instead of my Klipsch speakers and it took 5-0min for the sound to cut out.
Next step is to use my spare hard dri've with the rest of the computer parts from my old computer to install winxp and see if it is an issue there too.

  • Barely Audible sound coming from headphones on Satellite L675D-S7060

    Hello,
I have a Satellite L675D-S7060 laptop and cannot get the sound to work through headphones.  The computer's speakers work fine.  When I plug headphones in (have tried two different working pairs) the computers stops playing audio through its speakers, but the audio through the headphones is barely above a whisper.  I have to have volume on max and can barely hear the audio through the headphones.  Have tried updating all the drivers but nothing seemed to work.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ross

This may sound simplistic, but is the plug for the headphones seated all the way?  On my Qosmio, it is a bit difficult to push the headphone plug all the way into the port, and if it isn't "clicked" the last bit, the volume is quite low.

  • IPhone 5 getting barely any sound from reciever

I am getting almost no sound at all from the receiver of my iPhone 5. I plugged in headset & I can hear the person on the other line this was & also on the speaker, but not when I simply listen to the phone itself.
           Anyone else with this problem?

    Hi Kikivonshmeidervitz,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
These steps can help if you do not hear any sound through the receiver on your iPhone:
Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver. If you're using a protective case or display film, remove it and try again.
Make sure nothing is plugged into the headphone jack or the dock connector.
Check the receiver opening to see if it is clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
Try another location with better signal. If the audio issue happens only when on a call, it could be due to the location.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or a car kit, try turning off Bluetooth on your device. Learn more about troubleshooting Bluetooth connections.
    Restart the iPhone.
Make sure your device is up to date.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, contact Apple Support.

  • When I put on my headphones, sound becomes barely audible, what do I do?!?!?

Hmm, my first time ACTUALLY having probs with my iPad, I am a little bit nervous.
Okey, I tried to change volume when I had my headphones on ( I believe there's two parts, types of volume, one when it's the built-in speaker, other is when the headphones are on) volume changed so little, I got startled that my headphones don't work. But they do work properly on my MP4 player and they used to work fine on my iPad. Then getting more nervous, I went to General then Sound. There I scrolled the volume bar to full, still no difference. Urgent appeal to all experienced users!!!!!

  • IPhone 4 vibrates in my ear and makes audible sound while on call

Ever since I did the 4.2 update if I am on a call and message comes in, the phone vibrates in my ear and plays an audible sound that everyone around me can hear and also my caller. First time it happened it scared me so much I about dropped the phone. Now it just makes me mad. When the 4.3 update was released, I was hopeful this "bug" would be fixed. No such luck! Has anyone experienced this? Is there some way to stop the phone from doing this and have it just do the "soft" tone that only I can hear? I went to the apple store and the guy I spoke with suggested just turning off the vibrate. That is not the solution. What about the sound that it plays? Am I supposed to turn that off too? Then it wouldn't make any sound or vibrate. Niiiiiice! Just what I need. A phone that doesn't ring or vibrate.
    Someone HELP!
    Thanks!

I started a thread like this with my 3Gs iPhone. My solution was to disable the "Vibrate" feature under "Settings, Sounds, Silent" and when I get a phone call I just use the "silent/vibrate" switch on the side of the phone and it turns off all the sounds. Just make sure that you have the "Vibrate" under "Silent" turned off. That fix works for my iPhone 4 as well. Hope this helps.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

siteSoundClip = Applet.newAudioClip(new URL("file://c:/code/sound.wav"));Note: Launching the files individually (i.e. double click) prove the speakers are working fine.

  • K9N Platinum- Only 2 channel sound from SPDIF

    Hi Guys,
I am struggling to get a 5.1 output on SPDIF in the Realtek Manager. If i run the 3d sound demo, all i can hear is sound from the front 2 channels, no centre or surrond speakers. This is extremely frustrating. Can someone help ??

I am tempted to go and get the Creative card...However one of the reasons why i shelled out money for this Mobo was because of the SPDIF out put ...and i cant get even the Realtek sound manager to out put to the five speakers...
I could have gone in for a cheaper ASUS board and a creative card...however i cant afford another card at this stage mate. Need to figure out a way to get this working.
Where can i get the latest drivers for the 883 chipset.

If you want surround sound using spdif (optical or coaxial) the cards from Auzentech is for you. I'm using the HDA Xplosion but I think they are going to release a new card called X-purity in September. Their card can ENCODE Dolby Digital and DTS so you can enjoy surround sound using spdif. To be honest, my card, the Xplosion is not that great for gaming as it uses software+hardware Dolby digital/DTS encoding so you will lose some CPU usage for the card. It'll also cause your system to lock-up sometimes if the driver is corrupted since the encoding relies heavily on the driver. Eventhough it has those problems, I would not trade this card for a Creative card, not until Creative makes a card that will encode either Dolby Digital or DTS. The advantage is you can connect your PC with a home theater system or if you are using a Logitech's digital speaker (Z5450,Z5500) you can use the 3 analog inputs for 3 other device rather than only from PC. Btw the analog output of my Xplosion is also good but not as good as X-Fi, but you can change the opamps to make it better, but it wouldn't change the digital output quality at all.

  • Can you hear the fans on iMac? (my new 2011 27'' i5 fans are constantly audible even from a distance)

I have the 2011 27'' Imac i5 and I can hear the fans all the time as of start. It's not super strong but clearly audible even from distance. istat shows normal fan speeds (1100/1300/1000 respectively) . The noise bothers me a lot especially in a silent room. The fans start to be audible immediately after switching on and get higher (+temperature rises significantly) under any easy activity .. like streaming a video from net.
Can you hear the fans on yours at all?

Do a SMC reset (maybe do it 2-3x) and if the problem persists as you have been advised call AppleCare.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • No sound from TV when using HDMI from HP Envy Ultrabook4 despite downloading drivers

Problem: When using an HDMI cord from my HP Envy Touchsmart Ultrabook 4 (4-1105dx)to connect to my TV to view movies, the video appears on my TV screen, but there is NO sound from the TV. Instead the sound comes from my lap top.
Troubleshooting: I have looked under Sounds in the Control Panel, but the only choice listed is Speakers & Headphones IDT High Definition (which is the default) and does not allow sound from the TV when using the HDMI. I have also tried to download Driver and Audio Graphics, but wasn't sure which one & the ones which were downloaded have not solved the problem.
Can you assist me? Which is the correct Audio/Graphic Driver to download? Or is there another possible reason why I cannot hear sound from my TV when using the HDMI to connect to my lap top?

    Hi,
Please try this first to enable Speakers in Playback devices as follows:
    1. Right click speaker icon (bottom right hand corner)
    2. Select Playback devices
    3. Right click HDMI sound
    4. Enable it
    5. Click Apply/Ok

  • No output sound from output port/analog audio: Need help

hello, I want to connect my analog audio equipment to my iMac. I have done this in the past with my old G3. I have connected the RCA cables to a 3.5 mm jack and put it into the audio input port, which was what worked on the G3. When I open the sound page for input & output, on Output I can see the volume bar thing moving in relation to the sounds from mic, turntable, etc: all the analog audio things. However, there is no actual output of sound through the iMac;s speakers or a headphone. The output page is pretty simple so I am real sure I have all the rigt things checked, unchecked etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had what sounds like a similar problem to jazzzrat. i had my macbook setup to a stereo and it worked for over a year. suddenly no sound came out of the stereo. in my case, it definitely was a software setup thing.
plug in your stereo jack into the audio out port. then go to system preferences-->sound-->output. on there you should see, under "device for sound output": Name=Headphones, port=built-in output. (if you see name=built in speakers, you plugged in the wrong plug). Now go down to the bottom of the window and UNcheck the "mute" box, and make sure the volume slider is midway or more.
For some reason, mac allows you to mute the "headphones" and "built in speakers" selectively. we have no idea how that box got checked, that remains a complete mystery. but when we eventually found -- and unchecked -- the box, our stereo output came back just fine.
i hope this works for you. good luck and have a good new year.
