Base on Style question

Hi,
I have 2 existing Object styles, one is called "drop shadow" and is called "rounded corners", both are based on "none". I then want to take the "rounded corners" style, make it the child and base it on "drop shadow", making drop shadow the parent so that the" rounded corners" picks up the drop shadow effect. But when I do it this way it doesn't work, rounded corners doesn't pick up the parent drop shadow effect. The only way I can figure out how to get this to work is in "rounded corners" hit reset to base which then picks up the correct drop shadow but then I have to manually create the rounded corner effect again and redefine the style.
It doesn't make sense to me why basing something on another after the styles are already created doesn't work. Am I missing something?

It doesn't work because ID presumes any settings that differ from the base style are overrides you want to preserve if you change the base style. Easiest way to do this, I think, is to selec the drop sahdow style, then Alt (Opt) click the new style button to open the dialog. All the attibutes of the drop sahdow style should already be in place so you only have to define the rounded corners.

Ordered the Airport Extreme Base Station - some questions if you can help?

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit IBM ThinkPad T500 laptop I need to connect, and a Windows Vista PC. The ThinkPad has a built-in wirless N card and the Vista has a Belkin N+ USB wireless adapter. Can these both find and connect to the Airport without me installing any software (Bonjour etc) on them?
Since they are using the N+ wireless cards, will they connect to the Airport at 2GHZ or 5GHZ speed? If they can connect at either speed, what controls that?
I also have a MACPro desktop. I was hoping to configure my airport using it and hoped not to have to worry about configuring the other 2 pcs.
My old router was a Belkin n+ 2GHz router. Could I use that router as a repeater with the Airport. How can I do that?

I can't help on your Windows / PC related questions, but can offer some input on the last two questions.

You will use AirPort Utility to configure the AirPort Extreme. It should already be on your Mac. Check Hard Drive > Applications > Utilties > AirPort Utility. This will also come on the installation CD.

In order to "extend" a wireless network created by the AirPort Extreme(n), you would need another AirPort Extreme, an AirPort Express, or a Time Capsule. The Belkin would not be compatible with an Apple base station for this purpose.
If you connected an ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme or used a pair of ethernet powerline adapters, then you could possibly configure the Belkin to create a wireless network, but unless it was 5 GHz capable, you would not be able to mimic the 5 GHz "main" network that the Extreme would be creating.

Silly Base Station / Express question

Hi. Silly Question... Is my Airport Express my Base Station? I've only got the Express and I can connect to the internet just fine. Or does Base Station refer specifically to the round flying-saucer looking thingy? That would explain why I can't see it listed in Airport Setup utility under the Base Station columns. I'm trying to make sure my Express is set up correctly to print, but I didn't specify having a printer when I set up the Wireless Network. Sorry about this, but it might just solve my problem. Thanks in advance. I promise I'll learn quickly.

I'm not sure if it's a defective AX... just from my personal experience I had similar issues with 3 I needed to return.
If I recall correctly, you only have 2 choices... either the AX acts as a base station or it's a client of another base station. I suppose it might be possible you had it set as a client and it's just picking up an open access point nearby.
I would just try restarting the AX and your computer. If that doesn't work, maybe you could try a soft -> hard -> factory reset, in that order.
Do you have an Apple Store nearby? If so, and none of the above works, you can always take it to the genius bar and they may be able to help.

Indesign Grep style question

Hello,
I have a question about Indesign. I want to make the text after a certain character like a hair space for instance bold. This must be set in a paragraph style. I think this can be done with GREP styles. I have tried several things but it doesn't make sense to me.. Does anybody know if this can be done or is there a better way to do this?

Accessorie NYKO Charge Base Xbox 360 question about the batteries

I am sorry, I couldn't find the right forum for game accessories. I recently bought nyko Charge Base for the xbox 360 from best buy, when I got home I open the package then charged the nyko battery using nyko Charge Base, because the battery showed 3 bars that is why I was charging it. While the charger showed a green light, I went ahead and clicked the guide button that showed 4 bars.. I was playing one of my games, I notice that their was only 3 bars left while it was fully charged this is the same day I charged the battery then used it while on the guide button showed a circle ring from acting like their was 2 bars left. From sunday morning the 13th I had 3 bars left, the afternoon I only had 2 bars left from using the microsoft xbox 360 controller. For some reason the batterie act as it was dead shut off 3 times like a hour or so, while the green circle from the guide button was active.. Sunday night using the same controller same batterie showed 1 bar left . On monday morning the 14th using the same controller same batterie, I just left the controller on just to see what would happen, while the controller turn off I did press the guide button again just to see if the controller would turn on um it was out of juice. So I was charging the battery again, clicked the guide button, saw 3 bars on the screen, I clicked the guide button once again then showed 4 bars then 2 after.. I understand this wasn't a question, but it hasn't been 24 hours.. Mostly everyday I have seen the green circle while it showed up 3 bars. Did anyone had a similar problem like I had? While the battery was fully charge from monday at 3pm, I started to use it around 4pm and kept on playing a game till I stopped at 4 in the morning tuesday. Now it shows 3 bars while a green circle. From this nyko charger I had to charge the batterie almost every two days. What I don't get or understand, while I had a microsoft battery with kit and charge, I sometimes would charge the battery, meaning I don't have to use a charge for 2 or maybe 3 weeks. I would have 4 bars for 3 days at least then 3 bars for another 3 days but while it was 3 bars, it never once showed the green circle also never once shut off my controller to. From the microsoft kit and charge, from my playing habit like a day I would have to charge the batterie a day and need to charge it again maybe 2 weeks after.. From the nyko charger, I was charging the batterie every 2 or 1 day because it would go too 1 bar

Import styles question

Hi,
How to be more specific while import style from external file? I am talking about method:
Document.importStyles (ImportFormat.PARAGRAPH_STYLES_FORMAT,
myFile[, GlobalClashResolutionStrategy=GlobalClashResolutionStrategy.LOAD_ALL_WITH_OVERWRITE])
The goal is to import chosen styles only (one, few of them) nor all of them.

As you found out, the method is called "importStyles" not "importStyle".
One approach is to use the "properties" property to transfer the essentials of any native object.
Sub-objects such as the various settings and and options of object styles require extra steps, though.
E.g.
myStyle.properties = otherStyle.properties;
You can also create a blank document, import the styles there and remove the non desired ones.

STYLE="" Questions

I am attempting to build my first "Flash" Form in ColdFusion

and I can not figure out how to trim space around items. For
example, I have an accordion with two pages. I have two
buttons
on each page. I want the buttons to be flush with the top and
left of the accordion page, and I have tried various settings
in the style="" attribute such as marginLeft, horizontalGap,
etc. in both the <cfformgroup type="accordion"> and
then
<cfformgroup type="page"> but in all cases the buttons
do not
move any closer to the left. I have tried negative values as
well as 0.
To better demonstrate what I am trying to accomplish, below

Cfselect flash "style" question

I'm using the <cfselect> tag with Flash formatting. The
size attribute is set to 3. I'm using whatever the defaults are for
the style attribute. When the cfselect renders to the screen, the
spacing between the items in the select control is too much. I
can't figure out how to make the spacing smaller. I have quite a
few of these controls in my form, and it's making the overall form
way too long. Any suggestions?

Try a cfformgroup type="horizontal" with horizontalGap=-2 @
the style"" property, with your cfselect without label"" and
cfformitem type="text" for the label. OR Try the same
type="horizontal" and set a width for the cfformitem type="text"
for the label. Oh, by the way do you know how to make a jump menu
with a cfselect with a cfform format="flash"? Sorry to ask but I'm
trying this for 2 days in a row now...thank you

JSF table style question

Hello all,
Suppose I have two separate datatables in one page. How can I make it so that both tables are aligned (i.e, one on the left and one on the right). I tried doing this with

</hx:panelLayout>This achieved both datatables being in the same row, but Table 1 is larger than Table 2.
Therefore, Table 1 is vertically aligned on Top, but Table 2 is somehow aligned with the middle of Table1, not vertically aligned.
I am trying to vertically align Table1 and Table 2 but dont know how to do it. (Tried putting this in the dataTable style sheet). This didn't work.

I tried the myfaces/tomahawk DIV implementation and div enclosed in verbatim -tags but it just won't work.
My example is a bit more complicated as I am using tiles. Is that a known problem?

CSS Style Question

I added a new style called 14 that changed the text and spacing from the rest of the website (that is 16 and other settings)
It works within dreamweaver, but when I see it on the web, it is still the old size from within a table - <td>
When I highlight text and select 'class' it will add a 'span' at times
Other times, when between <td> it will add it to the <td> and it won't work.
This does not work

CSS Selector names must be Aa-Zz. They cannot begin with numeric values.
.14 is invalid code.
.style14 is valid code.
Rather than using selector names that carry no purposeful meaning, try to use selector names that tell you what the style is being used for. It makes your code easier to work with.

Table of contents/paragraph style question

In my dissertation I have many figures with an associated TOC for the figures. I have one paragraph style for the figure label/description and this is what is used in the TOC. Everything is perfect except for some of the figure descriptions are much too long to be included in the TOC. For these long descriptions, I would like to select only a portion to be included in the TOC.
I attempted to make and additional paragraph style to apply to the remainder of the description that matched the original 'figure' style, but named differently so as not to be included in TOC. Unfortunately, I found that a paragraph style means the whole paragraph so the figure description is all in or all out of the TOC.
Is there a way to apply two different styles in one paragraph so I can split up what is included in the TOC? Any other ideas?
If all else fails I will just make a hidden layer with the short description right next to the real one. I'm afraid this me mess up my numbering scheme though.

Adding the second paragraph is probably more trouble than it's worth, particularly if you're numbering automatically. Among other things, that's going to result in double entries unless you do it for all of the figures and use only the hidden tags.
Why not just edit the text directly in the TOC after you flow the TOC story? There's no law against that, and it's common practice to do so.

I have designated ad space sizes I need to use over and over. What type of style do I use to create the different ad space frames?

Object Styles cannot define the size of the objects they are applied to, only the appearance of them and, when using Anchored Objects, their position. The only exception is text frame, which can have a preset column width and number of columns. If you want a text frame to be 2 inches wide, then give it a fixed column width of 2 inches. Then length is unaffected.

MacBook Air (base model) capability questions.

Hello everyone,
I've been looking at the 11" MacBook Air, I like its size and weight because my work takes me on small float planes and small boats and I must always keep my personal pack compact and lightwieght, and yes im counting ounces. There is always power available where I'm headed, as I am the elecrician/mechanic sent in to work on the generators ect.(making battery life a minor consideration) The computer will be used for icloud, email, Pages, Numbers, web searches, iTunes (for podcasts & 4-8 GB of music to sync with iPod), maybe an episode of Walking Dead, and facetime. All of which the Air can handle from what I understand. What would be great is a basic 2D drafting type program to make it all I need. I was looking at iDraw and it looks exactly like what I'd need, basicaly a step up from a paint program to draw stright lines, a grid, add scales, text and import the images into Pages. The only requirments I can find for iDraw is: Intel, Mac OS X 10.6 or later. My questions are; Does this mean the processor is not important for iDraw? What version of OS X comes with the Air 11"? Can anyone tell me I am asking too much from the Air at this point? For $100 more I can upgrade the memory to 8GB and Apple will ship the Air with OS X Mountain Lion. But if I dont need to I'd rather not unless this Mountain Lion is awesome I just dont know. (Our MacBook Pro at home is stuck at OS X 10.5.8 and can not support the latest iTunes that supports the Mrs' iPhone 5 but that is her problem and im off topic) I've droped a number of things in the ocean, you never know who is helping you with boat to boat, boat to plane transfers, I dont want an iPad because for that price I rather have a little more computing available and spend the extra money on an Air.
This is the bottom end 11.6" Air (mid 2012) that I have been look at.

Looking at its form factor, the somewhat savvy computer user might think the 11" MBA is a netbook - with all the negatives that entails. Not so - it is a very powerful computer in a small package. Besides iDraw, you might want to look at Intaglio and EazyDraw for your drawing needs - both of which can be found here for a downloadable demo.
Looking at your specs, I strongly urge you to upgrade the hard drive from 64 to 128GB - I only recommend the 64GB model for people who need a second home computer. It is way to easy to fill up that hard drive - especially if you intend to keep any digital media like music and video. You'll be getting OS X 10.8 - Mt Lion - BTW.
