-bash: gcc: command not found - Mavericks
I have installed Xcode 5 and Command line tools when I try to use gcc command it says:
-bash: gcc: command not found
http://cl.ly/image/3m2U1N0q1B2l
Can anyone recommend any solutions, please?
Thanks
gcc is in /usr/bin so I would start by looking at my path and seeing if /use/bin is in it.
Also try typing /usr/bin/gcc and see what response you get.

Bash: gcc command not found
hi,
I keep on getting this error message. I have installed xcode 3.2
and it did not solve the problem.
please help asap.
ThanksI just fell on this forum, I have the same problem: I found gcc: it appears it has been moved during installation of developer tools to the location: /Developer/usr/bin, (from /usr/bin) so I tried to launch gcc by typing the whole path /Developer/usr/bin/gcc, with a source file.c. gcc works now this way, but the trouble is that it doesn't find the #include files, which have probably also been moved in some directory in /Developer/... I also tried by adding the line export PATH=$PATH:/Developer/usr/bin to the file ~/.profile. That cures the necessity to write the whole path for gcc, but not the not finding of the #include. By the way, working in C through Xcode works properly.

Gcc: command not found problem
Hi,
i just full installed cygwin 1.5.5-1 'cause i need to comiple and build a dll so i need to use gcc but in response to this command:
gcc helloworld.cpp
i get:
bash: gcc: command not found
Is that a windows xp problem or do i have to somehow configure cygwin? I read all the manuals i found but couldn't help.
Best regards
NereidaDepending on the way you install cygwin, the start for setup.exe is different.
I will explain the way starting from web:
http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe
You have to choose
1) Install from Internet
2) your directory for cygwin like: "D:\Programme\cygwin"
and the install for all or just for you
3) choose a local package directory like "D:\Programme\cygwin"
4) choose the settings to access the web like "Use IE5 Settings"
5) choose the nearest you download server
!!! and now the interesting Selection starts: !!!
A tree of packages is listed you have to click at 6. line (+Devel) at the word Default
+Devel # Default
Default should changed to:
+Devel # Install
...this is already your developer-pack within gcc
but further you have to go to Libs (line 12) and now click to the '+' -sign:
+ Libs # Default
The lib tree should now opened.
go up to the 5. last line at the 6. column "Package" you should read w32api: Win32 API header and library ...
look back to column 3 "New" there stands Skip click on it [as long] that you see the version number (2.5-1) or any better
It should help but it is not necessary to click on
+ Doc # Default (line 7)
so that it changes to
+ Doc # Install.
so now you can finish your installation!
I hope it helps

I am trying to compile a simple hello world type command line program.
When I type gcc hello.c -o hello i get:
-bash: gcc: command not found
I am running OS X ver. 10.7.3
I have Xcode 4.3.2 installed
And yes, I'm completely new to Mac.
Any and all advise will be greatly appreciated.

BobbyHi Keith, thank you for your quick response.
I installed Xcode via app store and do not recall
anything about the command line options. So I'm
going to guess I didn't install them. Is there a setting
to apply this in Xcode? Any direction you can give
is really appreciated.

HI
I am try to compile the Darwin kernel 9.8 on my system according this page https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Conceptual/KernelP rogramming/build/build.html
but unfortunaly I get the error message
-bash: gcc_select: command not found
According to the manpage http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/Manpages/ 10.5/man1/powerpc-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1.1.html
In Apple's version of GCC, both cc and gcc are actually symbolic links to a compiler named like gcc-version; which compiler is linked to may be changed using the command gcc_select. Similarly, c++ and g++ are links to a compiler named like g++-version.
but unfortunaly I didn´t got the command on my system
can anybody help (sry for the bad english) if the is not enough information pls tell me

Bash: adb: command not found.
I installed ADT bundle from Google.
I navigated to
~/adt-bundle-linux-x86_64-20130219/sdk/platform-tools
I tried to start adb and got.
bash: adb: command not found.
Grrrrr. Had this issue on Debian half a year before. Installed ia32-libs back-then. It worked.
Arch has no ia32-libs. Uncommented multilib and installed
lib32-gcc-libs-4.8.0-2 lib32-glibc-2.17-5 lib32-libstdc++5-3.3.6-6 lib32-ncurses-5.9-2
Like suggested in the forum. No change. Adb is still not found.
Any help?

Incredibly sick, that Android SDK is not in the official repos...
The "????????????" means that you do not have the correct udev rules setup. There's an adb udev rules package to install to get around having to write your own.
And no, `./script.sh` executes something in the present working directory. It is equivalent to:
$ $SHELL $(pwd)/script.sh

Hello all,
I have had WAY too many problems with this laptop, and at this point in its miserable little life, I've decided to just wipe the hard drive and start fresh, not caring at all what happens to the files left on there. As previously stated in one of my earlier questions (That was, might I add, never fully answered.), this late 2008 MacBook (aluminum) has a problem where it does not boot up, and just endlessly shows the gray spinning pinwheel. Four months later, that just stops, and now when trying to boot up with my normal startup disk, it brings me right to the Recovery disk and tries to reinstall OS X. I tried, it failed 5 minutes in. So I tried to wipe the hard drive, and it says: Disk Erase failed with the error: Couldn't unmount disk. I looked it up and I saw that if I went into the Terminal and typed: sudo diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk0 , it would unmount the disk. But whenever I type that, it says: -bash: sudo: command not found. I have no idea how to fix this, and I would really like to be able to use my laptop again without giving somebody my money to do it for me.
Thanks,
LukeClean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X. You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You may then open App Store, click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar, and re-download any OS X upgrade you purchased except Mavericks. Since Yosemite has been released the App Store may not let you re-download Mavericks, but it will let you download Yosemite. -
ORACLE_HOME disappeared, SQLPLUS - bash: sqlplus: command not found
OK, I am a newbie but am having real difficulty with my 10G DB which I had set up on Unix Solaris box but someone was messing around with it and now I can't see ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_BASE and ORACLE_SID, they all return blank when I try to "echo" each.
I realise I should have originally set it in Bash_profile, but is now too late.
So how do I set them back up, I cannot get SQLPLUS / AS SYSDBA.........bash: sqlplus: command not found
I have tried to reset and export but still doesn't work.
I got the ORACLE_BASE as:
training:/export/home/training/product/10.2.0/Db_1:N
but can't seem to set the three variables to run SQLPLUS, any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Tried messing around to reset but nothing works, this is the present state of affairs:
env
SSH_TTY=/dev/pts/3
USER=training
ORACLE_SID=training
ORACLE_BASE=/oracle/app
PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
PWD=/export/home/training/product/10.2.0/Db_1/bin
TZ=Eire
PS1=\e[33m\h\e[31m-\u-\e[33m\W/\e[31m-$\e[32m
SHLVL=3
HOME=/export/home/training
LOGNAME=training
ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/app/product/10.2.0
Can someone help me, really need a step by step guide to set these back up properly.

From the command prompt source oraenv

Respond to the prompt with the name of your database exactly (uppercase/lowercase) as it is in the oratab file (/etc/oratab ?)
This will set your ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, and PATH variables correctly for your database.
Try sqlplus again and see if that does not work for you. -

I have 10.6.8. When I type "purge" in Terminal I get: -bash: purge: command not found Is there another built-in command to clear memory leaks? I have FreeMemory (works well) and considering FreeMemory Pro, to clear memory periodically, say every 20 minutes, or preferably when a threshold is reached, say when only 100MB is available.
To get purge to work you need to install Xcode from Optional Installs on the 10.6 install DVD. Also be sure you install CHUD Tools with it.
But running purge or anything like it is pointless if within a short period of time the VM just grows back again. Sounds like you need more RAM.
Where are the memory leaks? Just because the VM reaches a certain size doesn't necessarily mean it's from a memory leak. -
-bash: make: command not found
Help me please. I downloaded cdrecord because I need a tool called makeisofs but I am told that I need to compile it first before I can use it. The directions say to type "make" to compile it but when I type make in the terminal window, I get the following message:
-bash: make: command not found
I've spent hours looking all over the web for an explanation but I just can not find anything to help me. I even joined some IRC channels but no one types anything in those rooms. It is the weirdest thing.
Can anyone tell me why I can't compile? The directions I got with the download don't explain a thing.I found something that might help. On the second Leopard DVD, there is something called Xcode Tools which I am told has what I need. I'll respond if I have any other questions. Thanks for reading.
