Basic Airport card can't connect to Wi-Fi using WPA encryption

I have a Powerbook Pismo 500mhz using OS 9.2.2 and Airport 2.0.4 software with a basic Airport card installed in it. For over a month I was able to connect to my resorts wi-fi network by putting in there Key 1 password and I was connected just fine. The other day they changed the password and upgraded there software from WEP to WPA, Now no matter what I do I can't get it to accept my password. The password is 24 letters long and every time I enter it I get "An error occurred while trying to join the selected airport network" .
I have tried everything from putting the password in quotes, to starting it with $, to even using Wep Key maker. In fact they call it a PassPhrase, not a Password. There is no options to change the encryption with Airport 2.0.4. I have looked all over the net and this is my last resort. Please help. If you wish you can email me directly at [email protected]
Powerbook Pismo 500   Mac OS 9.2.x   Basic Airport card, 768 ram, 30 GB HD

I've been having horribly similar problems trying to get my Mac to join up with a non-Apple Wi-Fi network running WPA.
I suspect you are probably entering the WPA password into the old WEP password field on your Powerbook. If you are, that will never work. You need to have the system asking you for a WPA password not a WEP one, and if you're software isn't current you won't be given the option.
Try this - you need to get your OS level and airport drivers much more current. I was experiencing the same error message as you when I was on OSX 10.3, which I have a feeling is the first level of OSX that properly supports WPA. Move up to 10.4 if you can. Also get the latest Airport drivers installed. Henry B may be able to give you the link, or you will find it embedded in another post.
If you are as unlucky as me you may find that even this doesn't fix your problem. I'm now getting the message that my password is not accepted - a step forward but not a cure.
If you do manage to get it going (and all advice is that the OSX upgrade and new drivers usually do the trick), let me know what your fix was!
By the way, things also seem to work better if you have your SSID broadcast by the Access Point.

  • MacOSX 10.3.8 system with original Airport card can't connect via WPA/WPA2

    Hi all,
My WiFi network consists of an Airport Express running a WPA/WPA2 Personal network and 802.11b/g compatibility, upon which 3 Macs (all with Airport Extreme/G or /Draft-N cards) and 2 PCs (both G compatible) merrily connect to.
I have an old PowerMac G4 which I've just fitted with an original non-Extreme Airport card, and having updated MacOSX 10.3.8 with Airport 4.2 to enable WPA access, it still refuses to connect to the network; I get the "There was an error joining the Airport network ..." when the correct password is entered.
My understanding is that while the old Airport cards don't support WPA2, they do support WPA and thus if the Airport Express network is set to WPA/WPA2 and b/g compatibility (which I'm assuming is some kind of all encompassing compatibility mode, given there's also sole WPA2 options) then it shouldn't have any problems connecting to the network. What am I missing here?
    Cheers, Ben.

I am having the exact same problem. Powerbook G4; original factory installed airport card; with Panther 10.3.9 OS plus updated 4.2 Airport Admin. Utility. It will NOT connect to my Airport Express set to the WPA/WPA2, which is working fine with my iPod touch.
When I get to the screen requesting password for my chosen airport network ("Wireless Security: WPA Personal), the "OK" button is grayed out and it will not even let me submit a password to connect. Can somebody help?

  • Airport Card can not find the Airport Extreme Station

My problem is, that my PowerMac G5 with an Airport Card can not find the Airport Network from the Expreme Station. But I can see all other wlan-networks.
With me MacBook Pro I have no problems, I have an normal connection to the Station.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
In AirPort Utility how is your AirPort Extreme configured in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, Radio Mode list? If it's set to 802.11n only the AirPort card in your G5 probably doesn't support that.

  • Airport Extreme can't connect to any server

I can't connect to any websites using my Airport Extreme, which worked fine until yesterday, everything is set up correctly and Network assistant tells me I'm connected to the internet. Every website I try to open (in Safari, Opera, and Firefox) gives me a message that I can't connect to the server, same with Mail. Everything works fine with an Airport Express or plugging directly to the modem. All of this started yesterday when my internet was down, but the airport never came back. I've tried resetting to factory defaults, and yes I've unplugged everything about 400 times. Anyone experience anything like this before?
    josh

It sounds like when the Internet went down, the modem got "confused" and didn't remember that the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) was connected to it.
    Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, AEBSn & computers. Order is not critical.
o While the power is off, check to see if the modem employs a backup batter. If it does, temporarily remove it, and then, replace it.
o Power-on the modem. If it has one, press and hold the modem's reset button for at least 3-5 seconds. After power-up or reset, wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s).
Your computers should be able to access the Internet (& access web sites) now. Please post back your results.

  • My X61 can't connect wireless when i use battery!!!

i confused why it can not connect wireless when i use battery?!
the problem drive me crazy nearly, it means i must take adapter every time
i help every one can help me!
    cheers,

Most of the functionality and problems are in the drivers. The hardware tends to be discrete testable functions though these days there is a fair bit of functionality in the hardware. The hardware tends to be implementing better defined protocols where as the to and fro of the higher level protocols tend to be what varies from Access Point to Access Point. The 4965AGN is a fairly recent chip set and the drivers are far from smoothly running.
The problems can vary from AP to AP so may work at home but not at work etc. Some have reported here that the 4965AGN setup doesn't work with the Cisco 1200 Access Point and I have yet to be able to get it to work under Vista with the equipment at any New York Starbucks. T-mobile do use Cisco equipment but I don't know which models.
Anything you can do to simplify the situation helps. Maximum power. No security. Disable IPv6 on the connection etc. Just to give a rough idea of the kind of thing that might be wrong here are some of the things listed as known issues or fixed according to the readme of the driver (Originating from Intel) that was released for the 4965AGN on 4/11/08.
There are several authentication issues with EAP, PEAP and LEAP which will cause it not to authenticate. There are also Vista EAP issues and some things which may resolve with SP1 which was pushed out on update last week. So there are many comnbinations of situations which may not work and it is important to test with different access points. Authentication and security has more issues. Also at the higher speeds such as 54Mb some of the security mechanisms will not be able to keep up. AES is the only mechanism which Intel expects to work at 54Mb.
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15806/ENG/relnotes.htm
There have also been past issues where the cards are silenced for twenty minutes after a failure to authenticate and in many cases the card will not be in a valid state after hibernation. It is noticable that when you phone T-mobile the first thing the tech has you do is completely shut the machine down - not hibernate - and begin afresh.
Once you have uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and connection manager a few times it is also possible to be having problems with junk left in the registry.
I don't recommend adding the 4965 drivers directly from the Intel site. I would wait for the one that has come through the Lenovo testing cycle.
In reality for those who don't want to make maintaining their laptop a serious hobby (Hopefully all of us - Far too much time is wasted on wireless) it is really a matter of rebooting your machine at a given access point. Trying your luck and then shutting it down and going somewhere else if it doesn't work. Use wires when you can. At home if your access point doesn't work check your configuratiions, temporarily remove all security, restore factory settings on the AP, reinstall from scratch and if it still doesn't work replace it with a different brand of Access Point.
Of course it is intended to just work and for 95+% of situations Wi-Fi does. The 4965AGN is newer so it has its fair share of early life issues to get resolved. Vista also still has issues. If the problem you are seeing is only when you are on batteries you are lucky and LANOgre's instructions may well solve it.

  • Can we connect to oracle 9i using vb6.0 in 64 bit machine.

Can we connect to oracle 9i using vb6.0 in 64 bit machine.
    Code i have written is
    dim conn as new ADODB.Connection
    conn.open("Provider=MSDAORA.1;password=pw;user id=usname;data source=dbname;Persist Security info=false")
but it is throwing an error saying
    "Connection not open"
But the same code is working in vb.net.
Do we need to install any providers for 64 bit machine?

I have had no luck doing this in the 64-bit ODAC or otherwise. If anybody succeeds I would love to hear about it. My experience follows for those interested:
I am trying to migrate some working VB6 code from Windows 2000 Server to 64-bit Windows Server 2003 but can't get the OLEDB connection to Oracle to work.
In the working code (x86 environment), I am using ADO 2.8 and Microsoft OLEDB Provider for Oracle (MSDAORA). Since the Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle is no longer supported or available on Windows Server 2003 x64, I tried to use the 32-bit Oracle OLEDB provider in ODAC 10.2 but may have run into the parsing bug posted on MSDN (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=159581). Next, I successfully installed the beta 64-bit version of ODAC 10.2, but when I try to open the connection I receive "Error 3706 Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed." However, I can successfully TNSPing the data source.
Windows Server 2003 x64 (not Itanium)
    Oracle Enterprise 9.2
    Microsoft Visual Basic 6
Microsoft ADO 2.8 (Objects & Recordset references)
Oracle OLEDB Provider (ODAC 10.2, 64-bit)
    Code Snippet:
    Set m_dbConn = New ADODB.Connection
    With m_dbConn
    .ConnectionString = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=oplprod; User ID=myid; Password=mypwd;"
    .ConnectionTimeout = 10
    .CursorLocation = adUseClient
    .Open

  • How can I connect 1-wire sensor using DAQ?

    Hi,
How can I connect 1-wire sensor using DIO in DAQ? I didn't find anything about it on this site.
    Thanks.

    Hello Depablo,
When making any voltage measurement you need to provide two wires and signal and a reference voltage.  If you have a digital sensor or device with a number of outputs there should also be a reference or ground voltage output so that you're measurement device can read the correct value.  If you don't connect the ground/reference voltage to the DAQ device then you'll be measuring a floating voltage and it won't be accurate.  Voltage is a relative measurement--your sensor may be outputting 5 volts relative to its internal ground, but that ground may be 10 volts above your DAQ cards ground.  If you measure the 5 volt line with your DAQ card you'll read 15 volts and not 5 volts unless you also connect the sensors ground to the DAQ card.  If you're unsure which wire to use as a reference you can either contact your sensor manufacturer, or if you like you can post back with a link to your sensor's data sheet and I can see if I can identify the correct wire.
I hope this helps, and have a great day!

Thanks for replying. The plan you have it would be an additional charge to add the hotspot feature. It's not free with the Nationwide plan. You would need to add the feature online at www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon

I can't connect my personal hotspot using wifi,I can able to find my iphone4 but it's just showing obtaing ip adress ??wat can I do for this problem??

    Hey there arunvdi,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi created by your Personal Hotspot. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2756
Try disabling and reenabling Personal Hotspot from Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Wi-Fi troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using Personal Hotspot with other Wi-Fi devices, try the following:
    Turn Personal Hotspot off.
Verify Wi-Fi is on in Settings > Wi-Fi.
    Turn Personal Hotspot back on.
If another device is unable to join your Wi-Fi network, ensure that the user enters the Wi-Fi password correctly. If the device cannot see your Wi-Fi network, verify your device name.
Note: Windows may not properly display a device name that uses non-ASCII characters.
Verify how many devices are currently using your Personal Hotspot. Depending on your wireless carrier and, the maximum number of Wi-Fi connections may be limited to three at one time.
If the other device still cannot connect, try turning Wi-Fi off and on again on the device. Verify that your device can see other Wi-Fi networks.
Note: If you see an "Unable to Join" or timeout error when trying to connect a device using Wi-Fi, ensure that you remain on the Personal Hotspot screen until the first device connects. After a device has connected, you can leave the Personal Hotspot screen and use your phone normally. Your device will automatically stop broadcasting using Wi-Fi if you put your device to sleep or after 90 seconds elapse with no devices connected using Wi-Fi. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
If none of the previous steps resolves your issue, restore the iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

i have an ipod 4 can i connect to pc and, using itunes match, store all music off ipod and then transfer to a new ipod 5?

    hI, bella
I also met this issue a few days ago and I finally find out how to transfer music from iPod to computer:
    1. Plug your iPod in and wait for the computer to recognize it.
    2. Open up 'My Computer' and under 'Devices With Removable Storage', double click and open apple iPod.
    3. Click on 'Tools' at the top of the window and drag down to 'Folder Options'.
    4. Under the 'View' tab, find the subfolder called 'Hidden files and folders'.
    5. Select the option 'Show hidden files and folders'.
    6. Click 'OK'.

  • Can't Connect to WiFi Network After Changing Encryption

I have an iPod Touch that no longer connects to my wifi network at home.
Some background: I have an aipport extreme base station with three XP laptops, an iMac and a printer connected to it wirelessly. I use a WPA Personal password. My wife's iPhone connects without a problem.
I recently changed the password on the base station to WPA Personal because one of the laptops could not connect using WEP (solution to inconsistent hashing of 13 character password problem found elsewhere in this forum). Ever since changing the password, the iPod touch will not connect.
I have looked for, but cannot find the "Forget Network" button on the wifi network page on the iPod touch (I understand that button appears after you have successfully connected to the network). I have reset the iPod up to and including removing all data.
When I go into the settings>wifi menu, I see the network's SSID. When I input the password, I get a "cannot connect to . . . " message.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

This does not work in my case.
Situation: we have wifi at home using WPA encryption.
The iPod Touch 8GB connected seamless to this network and anything was ok. After some days i could no longer connect, the iPod told me "connection to network 'networkname here' failed". Deleting the network and reenter the (correct) passphrase was no help, but changing the SSID on the router was helpful: the iPod could connect again ... for several days.
Now things stopped working again. Resetting network settings did not help either.
The iPod can see the network, is asking me for the passphrase and after several seconds telling me: can't connect. On the router log i don't even see a dhcp request, but other laptops work fine with the same wifi network.
That's a mess, i cannot and will not change the SSID every some days just to get the iPod working again.
