Basic clicking issue in specific user accounts, very strange.

Very recently my 2011 15" Macbook Pro is unresponsive to many normal click functions: so far this has included: playing a song in itunes (i mean literally clicking on a song as I've done 1000's of times and getting no playback), trying to blow up a photo in iphoto from a group of photos, or even opening an application from the Application folder.  These are all basic one click or double click functions)  However, opening apps from the Dock is fine, I can even Drag an application down from finder to the dock and it will open just fine.  Internet Apps like Firefox, which I am using to type this work completely normally.  To add another level of mystery, I tried creating a new user and everything seems to work fine in that account...what does it all mean?...life?

here is the full result in safe boot

  • Runtime.exec() under a specific user account ???

    Hi there,
    I cann't figure out how to run a script on Unix under a specific user account using the Runtime.exec(). Currently whoever run the java program, the script is ran under that user account.
    The code is like:
    public class javarun {
    public static void main(String[] arg) {
    String str = "myunixscript";
    // check the arg[1] to decide the appropriate environment.
    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
    try {
    Process pr = r.exec(str);
    pr.waitFor();
    int exitstatus = pr.exitValue();
    } catch (...) {...}
    We have two user accounts: unixusr1 and unixusr2. Now I need to have unixusr1 run the java program ( ie. unixusr1$ java javarun), while the "myunixscript" be executed under unixusr2. One further step is to the unix account name as a parameter so the unixscript could be run under different account.
    Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
    Edward.

    I'm not sure if I have a solution, but here are some questions:
    a) have you tried writing additional input to the OutputStream of the process? Although I have not tried it, I would imagine that Process.getOutputStream() exists for commands that require the invoking resource to send additional input to the process- like an su command that requires a password check.
    b) can you just write a shell script that takes the needed information as an argument. That is, write a shell script that takes the username and password as an argument and then you can use Runtime like,
    Runtime.exec("myScript", new String[] { "hisId", "hisPasswd" });Obviously, you would need to think through the security concerns of such a script, but, if it complies with the security structure of your environment, it might allow you to avoid the problem by using the shell script to invoke the destination command with the proper UID and password, rather then using the JVM to invoke it. Basically, the script becomes a proxy for the JVM to invoke that command.

  • SSAS issue with Domain user account

    Hi
    I have SSAS 2008 R2 set up running on Windows Server 2012 Standard.
    The server is registered as a part of domain.
    I have had an issue of domain user accounts accessing to a cube and it's starting to get worse. There has been no problem with a local user account (I set up a few for testing purpose).
    I ran the role report from BIDS Helper and it finds all the domain user accounts invalid.
    It looks like SSAS is not talking well with the domain server (Windows 2003 server standard) to verify user credentials. But the thing is that everyone is ok with the domain server except for SSAS. IT does not have a clue what's going on here and everything
    is just pointing at me right now.
    I'd like to know if there is anyway to monitor that communication between SSAS and domain server for user credential verification and any guideline on how to resolve it. Most of time, it just works again..  like 10 minitues later.. it resolves by itself.
    But this time, not!!!
    All I know is that 1. Registering the server as a part of domain 2. use domain user account to set the security.
    MY IT department has set up network monitoring tool and says that they are 100% percent working (No connection loss. It's monitoring Active directory as well). The application installed is 'ManageEngine Applications Manager'
    I don't know what to do here.
    P.S Will it be related something like 'Error
    while Add user to SSAS Server - The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed' but it's all the domain accounts including mine are not working.
    Cheers!!!

    First check your DNS servers setting on the server you have SSAS installed. You should only use the IP addresses of the DNS servers (e.g. Domain Controllers) of your domain. Active Directory relies on proper DNS server settings. Adding public DNS servers,
    even if they are on the bottom of the list, will mess up name resolving Active Directory names. This should have been done when IT had provisioned the server. Same goes for own workstation if you run your development/management software not on the server.
    Second make sure SSAS is running under a service account that has access to Active Directory. This can be either a domain account, the local system account, or the network service account. Running SSAS under a local account or the local service account will
    not work because local accounts do not have access to Active Directory. Running SSAS under either a Managed Service Account or a Virtual Account will not work because those features require the domain at least the Windows Server 2008 R2 functional
    level.
    Third make sure the account you use to log on to SSAS is a domain account and has appropriate permissions in SQL Server and SSAS. Local accounts and SQL Server account do not have access to Active Directory

  • Microsoft Word cannot open on specific user account.

    Hello,
    Everytime I open Microsoft Word (Office 2011) on my original user account, I get this message:
    I went to Microsoft's support site first. After finding various methods here, I found that the second method actually worked for me. That method was to make a "test" user account, and try to open Word there. Word had an update available and I updated both accounts with it. The "test" account actually opens up Word with no problems, whereas my original user account does not. Apple Support didn't help, in fact they directed me back to Microsoft because it's a third party software developer, despite it being an Apple/Macbook user account problem. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this, or if I'm stuck transferring all my files over to my test account one by one?
    Thanks.

    Maxie1111,
    Just a shot here,if you have done all the steps you have provided in the link,  in your affected acct, try going to Applications, Microsoft Office, Word and highlight it. Then press COMMAND I or right (control) click on it, this will bring uo the info pane, at the bottom under "sharing and permisssions make sure that system, and the rest of the accts have read write access, if not try unlocking the padlock (at the bottom with your admin pswd) and changing the status, see if this helps.

  • 3G having issues with my User Account

    My iPhone 3G will not connect to my user account in iTunes. It gives a bogus error that is apparently (per Apple) a "time out error for PC's"
    Upon creating a new user account on my Mac the iPhone connects just fine to the new accounts iTunes. Is there any way I can find out what is corrupt in my user account creating this issue? I do not want to have to delete my account. I have done an archive and reinstall, reinstalled iTunes 7.7, restored the phone, it isn't the cord, and it connects in other computers/accounts just fine.
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

  • Application Issues after deleting user account

    I have an imac with several user accounts setup. two of the accounts are admin.
    User1 Admin
    User2 Admin
    sysadmin Admin
    User3 User
    User4 User
    User5 User
    User6 User
    User1 purchased a new macbook pro and we migrated all of her docs and applications to the macbook pro. after seeing that everything was working well, we deleted her old account on the imac from the "System Preferences/Accounts" tab from User2's account.
    Here's the issue:
    Now when User2 tries to install or update applications, the system responds with a permissions error message. You do not have sufficient permissions to modify this application's settings. We also run into stange errors while just using some applications
    Most applications on the machine were installed by User1 before deleting the account. Did sysadmin inherit ownership of applications and library settings of User1 upon deletion?
    Is there anyway to change the settings for all applications to allow User2 (admin group) to update and install applications? Could I just change the ownership group for sysadmin directories to admin with Read & Write?
    Thanks,
    LeoK

    Exactly what did you do to remove your old account? I hope you didn't just drag it to the Trash. If so then you don't have an account because dragging the old Home folder to the Trash is not how you remove an account.
    You say you "edited" a new account. How did you do this?

  • How do you use Time Machine to restore a specific users account?  I can't do it from the user screen because I am not allowed.  I can't do it from the admin because I can't see other users in Time machine.

    I can't restore my user account from the users screen because I get an alert that Mac OS needs something.  I can't restore in TimaeMachine from the Admin screen because I can't see other users home folders.  What can I do?

  • SOME ISSUES - Partition, Permissions, User Accounts

    I have a new I MAC and a Power Book G4 Imac is running snow leopard and PowerBook leopard... in the Imac I have partition the HD but realized that the bootable disk is too small.... not sure what to do now or how to restore to the original size or increase size and or delete one partition to give more space... Also these new partitions they are not accessible in FINDER under DEVICES...
    In these new IMac have more than one user account but want regardless of the user to be able to access any file (can I switch the USER files to another partition?)
    Thanks all...

    Aha!  I deleted /var/folders/CO folder, and tried running TweetDeck again, and AIR installer finished and all is running now.
    Might I suggest for future reference that all /var/folders sub-folders be backed up and deleted when having AIR troubles.

  • Basic File Sharing question between user accounts on my iMac

    I don't understand how to be able to share and download to one common folder among User Accounts on my iMac. I am trying to use a Clean Account as a test, and wanted to copy a file I downloaded from the web in one account into this clean account folder, and install the file.
    I went to Sharing and thought I turn File Sharing on. Logged into the Clean account and Apple+I the folder, changing access priviledges to the folder. Then copy the file into the Clean User Account.
    But it doesn't work that way. Can anyone help me understand sharing between accounts?

    File Sharing is for sharing files between two different machines, not between different accounts on the same machine. If you want to share files on one machine, you just need to put them in a folder everyone has access to, like the /Users/shared folder. Also, don't go fooling around with folder permissions... that's a good way to mess things up. If I had a nickel for every time someone messed up their system using the "Apply to enclosed items" option when changing permissions, I'd be a rich man!

  • One user account very slow?

    I've had my iMac G4 for years now. In the last few months one of three user accounts (my wife's) has slowed right down. I use disc utility etc, and on hers. I'm wondering what the best way to sort this out is. I'm considering backing up her entire account to hard disc, deleting the 'slow' account and opening a new one. Anyone think this is a good way forward? Any guidance gratefully accepted!

    Since it's only her account, I suspect corruption or conflicting preference files. See the steps I posted for resolving conflicts/corrupt plists within an account at:

  • Migrate time machine backup to specific user account

    Hi:
    I want to move my spouse from her own iMac to a user account on my current MBPro.  I have plenty of disk space on the MBPro.  Can I do a Time Machine backup and then migrate her entire iMac to one user account of my MBPro, leaving my current user account on the MBPro unchanged?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Use Migration assistant and import her user account from TM backup.
    Don't create her user account first. Migrating her account will take care of that.
    Shouldn't matter if her previous backup was SL.
