Basic: Does or can Lightroom replace Bridge

I have been using Lightroom and am switching from Elements 5 to CS2. Can Lightroom replace Bridge?
Thanks in advance

if you're a photographer, LR basically is the new Bridge. Bridge and the associated work flow sucked, so they gave us a new application that just cuts out one of the steps. That's about it...

  • Basic: Does Lightroom replace Bridge?

I am giving up my training wheels and moving from Elements to CS2. I have tried Lightroom and find it impressive. Does or can Lightroom replace Bridge, or do I have to learn Bridge also when learning CS2? Thanks,

Bridge is really designed for people who use much more of the Creative Suite than just PhotoShop. And CS is designed (IMHO) for graphics designers and such, not for photographers.
LR is designed for photographers. Adobe doesn't make a pixel-editor that's designed for photographers. Elements 3 is what I use because it's the closest. But I'd love to eventually see a dedicated pixel editor, with all non-destructive commands, eventually integrated into LR as a module. This would include the fundamentals of image editing post RAW conversion (layers, masks, selection tools, brushes, etc.).
No I don't expect this to be in version 1.x of LR. ;-)

  • Lightroom and Bridge

Ok, we all know there is great integration between Lightroom and Photoshop, as there should be. What about Bridge?
Or is Bridge being phased out even though it of course is integrated with almost all Adobe products?

Remember that Bridge is for folder browsing, like a glorified Finder or Explorer, and not for cataloguing. Lightroom is a catalogue and can record the location of pictures whether or not they are on drives connected to the computer. Bridge searches go through the file system, so chugging through all attached drives to find pictures, while LR searches its database. Those are big differences.
"Lightroom is better for images without a doubt. So in the eyes of someone who does graphic work, will Lightroom replace Bridge?"
No for graphic work, and that's Ian's point about the limited range of file types that LR handles. But in the eyes of someone who only does photographic work, Lightroom is likely to substantially replace Bridge, and in many cases totally. Quite often, continuing to use Bridge is because some people don't/can't get their head around working with a catalogue-based workflow, and/or they have a preference for working with folders. I might use Bridge to dig into metadata, but not for much else (I use iView/ExMedia catalogues for managing other file types).

  • Can't open bridge cs4 after installing Mac OS Yosemite

Installed Yosemite on iMac a few days ago. Now, when I try to launch Bridge CS4, the screen goes black momentarily and Bridge doesn't open. I tried downloading PSE 9 and Organizer, but I don't like them. Can I replace Bridge CS4 with a later version?Bridge General Discussion

Are these Apps installed on the external, or are you trying to run them from the internal while booted from the external?

  • Can Lightroom 3 replace Adobe Bridge?

I just picked up a copy of Lightroom 3 and I'm slowly learning the application.
I know Lightroom offers a tremendous amount of non-destructive image editing, which is my primary reason for purchasing it, however I'm wondering if it can replace Adobe Bridge. Quite frankly, I'm just trying to streamline my workflow and while I love using Adobe Bridge, I'd prefer to invest my time in learning just one application.

The functions in Bridge are largely present in Lightroom, although implemented in a somewhat different fashion -- Lightroom is a database, while Bridge is a file-browser. So, yes, Lightroom can replace Bridge for many people. Lightroom offers the possibility of dramatically streamlining your workflow (depending on what you do with your photos, of course)

  • Can Lightroom invoke the same Photoshop functions as Bridge can?

Bridge has a tools menu with a Photoshop item sub-menu. It can invoke a number of Photoshop functions such as "Image Processor" and Auto "batch" functions on a selection of images from within Bridge. Does Lightroom also have this capability?

Lightroom replaces the functions of many Photoshop batch capabilities, with its own Export and Publish and Print to JPG features. The usual expectation for a LR user, would be, that Lightroom carries out the creation of different sized JPG versions etc. It is in some ways more efficient and economical at this than Photioshop is.
The specific batch tools you mention, are in effect scripted extensions of PS which I don't believe LR can access. In any case, the images that LR itself manipulates may include entities that Photoshop tools could never access, for example Virtual Copies.
That said, it is possible to reference a Photoshop Action in a "droplet" file, add this droplet to a list where Lightroom can see it, and then invoke this as a postprocessing step as part of a batch Export initiated by Lightroom. So, if you are creating a set of JPG (TIFF, whatever) images which need standard treatment as far as resizing, colourspace etc but also that need some kind of a standardised Photoshop operation to happen, this is a way to do it.
The PS postprocessing in this scheme, happens only to a brand-new, separate,  exported file. If you want PS to modify the master image as viewed in LR, then you are getting more into LR's standard external editing function instead - which is done image by image (and which similarly spins off a new image version and new file saved on disk). Any file-changing editing of the type that Photoshop does, it completely at odds with the nondestructive approach of Lightroom - like chalk and cheese, and this is reflected in the quite compartmented workflow under which these happen.

  • Does Lightroom make Bridge obsolete?

I'm new to Lightroom, and really like the simplicity of Bridge.  I find Lightroom very confusing and with duplicate features of Photoshop.  I particularly find the "catalog" feature very confusing.  Bridge is very intuitive and the Explorer metaphor works like one would expect.  I can manage my images perfectly, with no confusion.  I like the combination of Bridge, ACR, and Photoshop CS5.  Why would I need Lightroom?  PS: I don't need "tethering" feature of LR.  One more question:  I wonder if in the future Adobe will get rid of Bridge (because it's free) and make people buy LR.  ???

I like the simplicity of Bridge, and how everything I do with files (managing folders, deleting/moving files, etc) works exactly like in Windows Explorer.  However, once I understand LR, and the way I can catalog images and search images, I may find that I use both--Bridge for truly managing the images and folders, and LR for cataloging images for rapid search.  I plan on giving LR the benefit of the doubt and working with it before categorically rejecting it.

LR might be confusing at first, particularly if one doesn't that LR is not a browser-type program but a data base program. It's data base being the catalog.LR is far superior than Bridge for image management. You willbe able to apreciate this only after you have dived deep into LR. But, Bridge still remains useful just because it's a browser based program. It will display everything that is on the hard drive - as far as image files are concerned, whereas LR displays only what has been imported. Also, Bridge displays image files that are not supported in LR. But after 5 years of working with LR I have to say, it's a fantastic program (despite some flaws) and I could not do the work I'm doing without LR. WW

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen, 5 years old, has short battery life. Can the battery be replaced? If not, does apple have a replacement program? how much?

    Details:
5 year old 2nd Gen Ipod nano only works for an hour the most. Battery may be approaching end of life.
Can this still be replaced? if not, what are my options? Does apple have a replacement program?

Just would like to share with you, my experience with a friend's Nano with a smiliar problem
The battery level could be too low to boot up the OS of the iPod, which even may corrupted (if you see a folder icon).
The best way to fix it, is to connect it with different device other than your PC as it is likely not get charge at all, e.g.
    1. car charger
    2. ac charger
    3. ipod speaker dock system
    4. using firewire cable
    5. with a Mac computer
The key is to charge the battery level up to the minimum for you to put your Nano into disk mode

once you see the "tick" mark, connect it with a computer, and try to do a Restore for your iPod. In case you still do not manage to get your iPod to be recognized by a PC, I am afraid you have to connect it with a Mac, very likely it will allow you to do a Restore as I did last night

I've just installed creative cloud 64 bit windows.  How can I make bridge the default program to upload pictures rather than lightroom?

Usually the default program associated with an image file extension is an image developing Program like Lightroom or an image editing program like Photoshop. If you want to change the default associated program to Adobe Bridge you would use Window's Controls Panel file association applet.

  • Why Does the Photograph's Preview Change in Lightroom and Bridge? | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this video tutorial Julieanne explains one of the great mysteries of Lightroom and Bridge – why Lightroom (or Bridge) displays a photograph one way and then changes the way it looks a moment later. It will all become clear with just a little information about how digital camera files are captured and displayed by different applications.

This tutorial was outstanding in explaining why Bridge and LR may have different renditions of the same photograph as well as why it changes after a few seconds.  This camera calibration video is one of the best that I have seen.

  • Can lightroom do what iview mediapro does?

    hi:
    1. i've been using iview mediapro for a... long time, but d/t various reasons, i'm thinking about utilizing lightroom for the DAM functions.
    2. with iview, i can burn a DVD with many photos--> place the contents of that DVD into iview and then iview will know where each foto is located (ie by the name of what i called my DVD or external drive etc...). can lightroom do this?
    3. any users experience with importing iview media catalogs to lightroom?
thanks for the info. harry shin

LR will tell you the folder name of offline images. This means that you need to create a folder with a unique name on your DVD or external drive and to put the images there.
I remember a LR user complaining who put all images in the root folder of the DVD. LR is not (yet) smart enough to use the CD Label if there are no folders on the external media but it works very well if you consider this information
