Basic Drawing/Painting tool failure

The following tools are refusing to work correctly. Yes, I am resting my tools at the tools Option bar. Resetting the tools is now SO common I'm think of adding a hotkey.
Brush: refuses to work unless I reset it nearly every time I come back to it,
Erase: Doesn't work even after I reset it.
Curve [cmd+M]: Doesn't work on pixels if my selection is partially an alpha.
These are basic building blocks of my workflow, in digital painting, sketching and creating masks. I understand when advanced features need retooling and updating, but these tools NEED to work. Please test these more thoroughly, next time. While I appreciate a lot of the features of the Creative Cloud, 50$ to 70$ a month is a lot to ask when your core products are working less well than their open source alternatives. You are really making a case for GIMP or Affinity.
Does that sound ludicris? It does. I can't imagine trying to do any production retouching in any of those applications, but currently, the suite I rent for over 600$ a year, doesn't work consistently when I need it to work.
Creative Cloud is only a deal when it functions. If I cobbled together a bought and paid for or open source alternative it might look like this: Inkscape, GIMP (or Affinity), Motion (which sucks... but Blender could make it better), Final Cut Pro, Logic... I'd be screwed without InDesign, but I could make it work. This all sounds like a huge headache, but it's currently a BETTER deal when you break core, basic features in flagship applications.
If you are rebuilding the thing from scratch, fine, but TEST it. I know you guys don't like Macs, but A LOT of you customers use them. Either support the hardware or DON'T.

My previous computer came with a program called OmniGraffle, and I have found it to be great. If was not pre-instaled on my new MacBook Pro, though. It's not free, unless it happens to be sitting on your computer already and you're not aware of it.
There's a quite good, but complex, vector drawing program like Adobe Illustrator called Inkscape... the downside is that it isn't a native Mac app. It's a Unix app and requires X11 (available on your Mac OS X install disk as an optional install). There's also a similar program (also requiring X11) that is more like Adobe Photoshop called Gimp.

Please help me with the paint tool!

Sorry for all the simple questions, but I'm having so many problems with Flash's drawing tools it isn't funny.
What I want to do is draw a series of slightly diagonal stripes. In any other program, I'd use the line tool to draw the partitions and then use the fill tool to fill in the gaps. But in Flash, the paint tool won't do anything. It doesn't matter where I click - it won't work, and a little 'lock' symbol appears on my cursor.
I know that an alternative way of drawing the stripes is to make a square, resize it and tilt it to exactly the right angle, but this is a slow and painstaking method, and I have to do a lot of them. Also, not all the stripes are perfectly straight.
It's so frustrating, because I could do this in ten seconds with normal drawing tools, and I've spent about four hours already just trying to figure out this stupid little thing (because this stupid little thing is crucial to my project!). I'd be immensely grateful for any help. Likewise, I'd be very grateful for any help figuring out the brush tool problem on my other post. No matter how much I try and practice, I just can't figure out these drawing tools.

I am having sort of the same problem but yours I think I can solve... is the layer locked at all?
I can't fill in any drawing or shape that I draw out and it's a pain... Was wondering if this was similar to yours??

Delayed live screen drawing with tools in Photoshop CS5 on my iMac running system 10.6.7.
Hi there. Recently, I've been having issues with the tools. There's a distinct DELAY in the live drawing. For example, if I open a random image, take the pencil, paintbrush, or even eraser tool, and I draw a large line across the image, I don't see anything. If I zoom in or out 1 click, I see the line. If I draw ANOTHER line, same thing - I need to zoom in or out to see it. With all of the tools. I've never had this issue before and it's incredibly frustrating (that might be an understatement as you can imagine - I use PS daily as I am a full-time designer.) Any ideas or solutions? I've already TRASHED my preferences and reset the tool. If it IS a driver issue (which is weird, because this issue just recently started happening) I contacted the driver manufacturer (AMD) and was told:
"Unfortunately, Apple does not authorize us to release drivers for their products.
All drivers are provided to Apple who then customize and release them to their customers.
You will need to contact Apple to obtain the most current drivers for your product."

You are correct - only Apple can deliver display drivers to you. That's what you get with a Mac as Apple wants to be your "one stop shop" for support..
Just curious: Are you painting with large brushes and very small Spacing values? That can cause some delay, though it normally catches up on its own - you don't have to do anything to make it happen.
Have you tried disabling OpenGL Drawing in your Photoshop Edit - Preferences - Performance menu. Restart Photoshop after making that change and before testing.

Recommend a basic drawing program?

I need to make some figures for a math project, and I realized I don't have a basic drawing application. I just need to be able to draw circles, shade regions, arrows, that kind of thing. I also need to be able to label things, so I need text (including greek letters, or even better, I would just insert the text as images from latexit).
I have Seashore but it doesn't seem to have a circle tool. What's a good program to use for this kind of drawing? Preferably a free one.

It sounds like you are talking about the cloning tool?
Tool looks like this:
Then when selected you can change the size of the brush and using Alt (windows) and Command (Mac) to select your region you want to copy then start to create you cloned image.

Drawing/painting in exactly coordinates

Hello , I have got a litle questions.
Can I draw/paint(pictures , or add regular components) on exactly coordinates on the frame?
I mean something like
frame.add(myButton , 500 , 300); (Height and width in the frame)
or something like that....

I really don't recommend using the absolute placement technique.
What if you resize your window? Your components will not adjust, as they would with a LayoutManager. You can accomplish pretty much everything you'd need to do with absolute placement with the appropriate LayoutManagers.

u need to setup the link between the 2 systems....Try using FTP commands which are available in SAP to connect between 2 systems & then u can transfer the data either way.

I'm new to Illustrator and I am trying to use the live paint tool.

I have an image that I have outlined into different sections with the pen tool and now when I try to select the outlines and go into live paint> make, it prompts me with an error message saying "Selection contains objects that cannot be converted. Live paint groups can only contain paths and compounds paths. Clipping paths are not allowed." Is there a way to convert this so that I can fill in the selected areas with the live paint tool, or am I totally out of luck? -Not sure if this matters but I have a photo underneath the pen tool's outlines because I'm trying to edit it into more of a 2D geometric print which is why I need to live paint tool to help me fill in the shapes.

Put the image on a new layer below the artwork and lock the layer so the image cannot be selected. Did you use a mask of some sort? put that on the lower layer as well.

Painter tool goes all over in Lightroom 2.5

Haven't seen this issue posted, but my Painter tool is behaving more badly than usual.
I am trying to reject scattered photos while in Library grid mode, using the Painter. Each time I click on an image with the painter, rejects the image ok, then bounces to another part of the screen and I have to scroll back to where I was. In fact, the screen continues to shift around so much that the Painter tool is stupidly dangerous. I have never found it to work as it should, but this is the worst!
I have already downloaded LR2.5 approximately 8 times so far to fix issues - is that my only choice now?
I'm on a Mac OS 10.4.11.

Really? I had been told differently earlier and it seemed to help with the bugs during the first week of LR 2.5. Seems silly now however.
I will try your suggest to delete the preferences since I have found that very helpful when Photoshop goes wacky. Does it work a similar way that you hold down cmd+opt+shift (?) when re-starting the app?
