Basic functions and functionality missing from Safari 4.0

Just trying to move to Safari from Firefox. The Develop tools cinched the move (hidden by default! Huh?).
After all the years, I cannot believe Apple still haven't fixed some basic requirements of a web browser.
1. Cannot find anything similar to Live Bookmarks (for viewing RSS feed headings). This makes RSS bookmarks far less useful (more or less useless, in fact, as you may as well have an ordinary bookmark and visit the site).
2. All new links "seem" to open in current tab. Making tabs more or less useless. What's the point of having them if all new links open in current tab by default? Only way I can open in new tab is by holding down Command EACH time I click a link. Doh! Who thought of that default? A simple option that asks you if you want to open ALL new links in a new tab OR window is the expected behaviour -- to override, hold down a key.
3. Cannot reorder bookmarks alphabetically (unless I have overlooked option). Couldn't do that waaaay back when Safari came out and still cannot years later.
4. Adding bookmark opens bookmarks bar. Have you seen my bookmarks bar? Anything above 10-20 and the list takes years to find a target folder. While I can drag URL into a top level folder on the bookmarks bar, what if I want to add it a subfolder? Add 500 bookmarks and then try scrolling the list.
5. Cannot open bookmarks and view a page at the same time! At times you just need something simple. While cover flow may be useful "sometimes," here it just gets in the way. Why not have two versions? Simple (view bookmarks and page at same time); Complex (a link that navigates away from current page and shows bookmarks with cover flow)?
Apple, please fix ASAP. What's the point of having fastest browser if basic functions are overlooked (some overlooked since Safari first came out)?

Post you report in Apple Bug Report. This is only a user to user forum. But at the same time I think some of your issues are easily addressed and will be shortly by other users.
Cheers

    Safari is giving me a missing plug in message when I try to view things like movie trailers. The trailers play on Firefox, so I'm not sure what's missing from Safari.  I have Safari 5.0.6 and Mac OS X 10.5.8.

    I just noticed that it won't play some newsite videos anymore either. What plug in do I need to update (if that's the problem)?

  • WHAT IS MISSING FROM SAFARI !

    I just installed Safari. While I like its interface, I see there are some important, I mean absolutely necessary features missing from Safari. Without them, it won't ever compete with established browsers like Opera.
    1. When exiting, Safari should give the option to remember current tabs (websites). I can't stretch enough how important is this. Opera was the pioneer of this feature, it took many years to Firefox developers to decide that was necessary to add it and they finally did. What about Safari?
    2. Give people the **** "new tab" button as default!!! Is this so hard for safari developers to think that a new tab button is absolutely necessary??? This is not optional! A new user has to spend time to figure out that he should dig deep into settings just to add that absolutely necessary button!!!
    I don't like hitting combinations of keys just to open a new tab. That's not a complicated interface like a 3D graphic environment where your right hand is always busy -it's just a browser!
    And the icon is poorly designed -it should be replaced with a better one.
    BTW, what's that "Display a menu for the current page" title??? Couldn't they think of a proper one?
    I'll post more as I'll be using Safari more.

    Although it doesn't look like it is set up for the purpose, you can make feature enhancement requests directly to Apple via the "Help > Report Bugs to Apple":
    +*Report issues and send feedback to Apple*+
    +If you have an issue with a website or there is a feature you would like to see in Safari 4, you can choose Safari Settings Menu >Report Bugs to Apple... to send your data directly to the Safari team at Apple.+

  • New document about sequence presets and codecs missing from Premiere Pro

    If you're having problems with sequence presets and codecs missing from Premiere Pro, see this document for solutions for this activation issue.
    This document relates to the following problems:
    - missing sequence presets when creating a new sequence
    - Encore error: "Encore will not launch in non-royalty bearing mode. The application needs to be serialized with a royalty bearing serial number."
    - When opening a project in Premiere Pro: "Error Adobe Premiere Pro: This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
    - When importing footage, the footage is missing audio or video.
    These failures are all because Premiere Pro and Encore use some codecs that require activation before they can be used. If activation of these codecs has failed, these codecs will not be available to use.

    Well done.

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

    My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
    So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
    I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
    I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
    Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

    I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
    Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
    Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
    Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
    DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!

  • ThinkPad W520: Parts Wrongly Listed in and/or Missing from Lenovo Order Status Page

    I ordered a configured ThinkPad W520 off Lenovo.com for USD1500 yesterday.  Later when I went back to check my order status, to my surprise some parts were either shown up incorrectly or simply missing.
    For example my ThinkPad W520 includes (but not limited to) these parts:
    Parts missing from Lenovo Order Status page:
    UltraNav with TrackPoint & touchpad
    Express Card Slot & 4 in 1 Card Reader
    Question: Where are they? Why missing?
    Parts shown incorrectly on Lenovo Order Status page:
    I've ordered: 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
    Lenovo Order Status page shows: SBB 15.6FHD (1900 X 1080) LED
    Question: Why 1900 instead of 1920? What gives?
    To be on the safe, I tried hard to match each of the parts consisting my ThinkPad W520. So far the above are my concerns. I know many of you are long-time Lenovo patrons. I'd appreciate your patience look through the below complete lists and advise if Lenovo indeed have received my order correctly.

  • Cannot drag and drop image from Safari to Desktop - drop location is unavai

    Drag and drop an image from Safari 2.0.4 to the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Desktop does not save it. Console says:
    "drop location is unavailable"
    Control click over the image and "Save Linked File to the Desktop" works as expected.
    Any hint most welcome. Thanks.

    Why not simply adjust the link for the image in the Links palette? Certainly could be contained in an action, if need be for duplicating and exporting multiple images...

  • File dates and names missing from library

    I have recently had my hard drive replaced and started afresh. My old copy of iPhoto library downloaded photos into separate files by date order and showed the roll name I assigned. I could click on a little arrow on the left to show or hide the photos.
    In case this is relevant - when I got my computer back it didn't have iPhoto on it (just about everything else was there, such as iTunes, etc) so I put my disc in again and downloaded iPhoto from the disc. Now all photos go into the library and automatically sort into year files, but they are not organised into separate roll dates and I cannot hide the photos any more and just show a list of roll names.
    I tried downloading iPhoto_715.dmg, but this message appears "An eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location /Applications."
    Sorry I am not really very computer literate and just don't understand what is going on.... any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Linda.

    Have you explored the options under the View menu?
    I tried downloading iPhoto_715.dmg, but this message appears "An eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location /Applications."
    To upgrade to a later version of iPhoto requires that you purchase the relevant iLife package.

  • Visual Basic UFLs pick is missing from the Additional Functions Tree

    I am trying to add a custom function written in VB to a Crystal report.  I have stepped through the entire process and have a dll ready to go.  I cannot see the Visual Basic UFLs pick under Additional Functions in the Formula editor tree.
    Details on Environment:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Visual Studio Professional 2008
    Crystal Reports 10
    .NET 3.5 SP1
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jemal

    Hi Jemal,
    It could be a bug. U2lcom is a legacy UFL bridge between COM and CR. Newer versions of CR has a new u212manager to manage UFL's in .NET and it' snot in CR Basic and version 10.5 runtime. It may be placed in the x64 folder but it may not work.
    There was one [CR for .NET|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009351512008E/crbasic2008sp1.exe] patch that may have fixed the issue but if it doesn't your only option may be to upgrade to VS 2010 and CR for VS 2010 and then use this [UFL sample|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333633303333333333383331%7D.do] and update your Project and UFL.
    CR for VS 2010 is a full feature version and includes RAS which gives you much more functionality.
    See this page for more info: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/crystalreports-dotnet
    It may be due to the 64 bit GAC is having problems find your dll. Try renaming the one in the x86 folder:
    C:Program Files (x86)Business ObjectsCommon2.8 in
    And see if it throws a new error, if it does then verify it is loading the dll from the x64 folder.

  • Creating a function and return something from an XML file

    Hi!
    I'm working with timeline actionscript. I want to create a function that loads my xmlfile and returns an xmlobject with the file's content.
    This is what I got so far:
    my_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, getXML("myxml.xml")); //1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type void to an unrelated type Function.
    function getXML(fn:String):void{
         var infoLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
         infoLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, xmlLoaded);
         infoLoader.load(new URLRequest(fn));
         var myXML:XML = xmlLoaded(); //1136: Incorrect number of arguments.  Expected 1.
         trace(myXML);
    function xmlLoaded(e:Event):XML{
         return e.target.data;
         //trace(e.target.data);
    Can anyone take a look and perhaps point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

    I have never used a listcomponent, so I can only help with the steps before filling it with data.
    I think you should at start of your application load the XML with filenames and just after it's completed, e.g. in Event.COMPLETE handler, load all other XMLs looping through filenamesXML, like this
    var filenamesXML:XML;
    var XMLsToLoad:uint = 0;
    function filenamesXMLLoaded(e:Event):void
         filenamesXML = XML(e.target.data);
         XMLsToLoad =  filenamesXML.filenames.children().length();
         for (var i:uint =1; i < filenamesXML.filenames.children().length(); i++)
                  getXML( filenamesXML.filenames.children()[i] ); // the function from my previous post, don't forget to implement it
    //modify the minor xml load handler from the previous post
    function xmlLoaded(e:Event):void
         var loadedXML:XML = XML(e.target.data);
         xmlArray.push(loadedXML);
         XMLsToLoad--;
    //assign the one click handler to all buttons, a loop here would be quite handy
    function clickHandler(e:MouseEvent):void
         if (XMLsToLoad == 0) //check if all xmls have been completely loaded
              switch (e.target.name) // swith by clicked button's instance name
                   case "button_1":
                        // here you have to implement supplying listcomponent with data, I think a loop again will be a good idea
                        break;
                   case "button_2":
                        // ibid.
                        break;

  • Serial PDA function sub palette missing from Functions Palette in PDA Module 8.0

    Hi:
    I have a problem that I would like to solve without having to reinstall PDA module.  Under the functions palette, Instrument I/O ... I have the Serial Compatability sub palette there but the VISA and the Serial ones are now questions marks instead of a sub palette.  Has anyone had this problem and if so how is it fixed.   If I copy and paste the VI's from Labview 8.0 (for PC) to the PDA vi I'm writing, they seem to work fine but what a pain that is ... anyone have an suggestions?  Thanks
    Greycat

    Hello Greycat,
    The subpalettes for the VISA and Serial subVIs are suppose to be
    unavailable if your target is a PDA device.  LabVIEW loads a
    seperate palette set for each target.  Since VISA is currently not
    supported on the PDA, you cannot directly open the the VISA functions
    or the Serial functions when you are targeting a PDA device.
    Instead, you can use the Serial Compatibility VIs, which then call the
    appropriate VISA calls.
    Hope

  • IDoc : Linking Basic type and function module

    Hi,
    I am in the process of customizing for inbound processing.
    I have one doubt reqarding below customizing :
    t-code WE57:
    FM                               Message type          Basic type
    ZBAPI_IDOC                ACC_DOCUMENT   ACC_DOCUMENT01
    ZBAPI_IDOC                ACC_DOCUMENT   ACC_DOCUMENT02
    t-code WE42:
    Process code     FM                                   Message type
    ZBAPI                ZBAPI_IDOC                    ACC_DOCUMENT
    So in this scenario, which Basic type would be considered? or if I want the Idoc with basic type ACC_DOCUMENT02, then how should be the customizing?
    Thanks ,
    Yogita

    Hi Yogita,
    The basic type depends on the version of system in consideration.
    lets say for eg. HRMD_ABA has basic type from HRMD_ABA01 to 05 and they are depend on the version of the system as which to use.

  • How do I clear all personal data bookmarks history etc and import data from safari

    I have a MacBookpro 10.6.8 and I am trying to clear ALL personal data on my new Firefox 12 (Bookmarks History etc) and then import all settings from my Safari. I've deleted the Firefox application as well as Library/application support/mozilla and Firefox still retains all of the old settings (Bookmarks History etc) from the old version 3
    How do I do this.
    Thanks

    You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    Make sure that Firefox is closed (Firefox > Quit Firefox) when you remove files in the profile folder.
    You can also create a new profile.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    You can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile if you want to keep some data.

  • Places and Faces missing from iPhone

    I use Aperture and tag all my Faces from there. I also use several cameras which geotag my photos, so Places is working in Aperture, too. However, on my Phone (iOS 7), neither Places nor Faces are appearing. I understand they are supposed to be displayed in the Albums view, but they're not there. Thoughts?

    Turns out that somehow, at some point, my iPhone stopped synchronizing with Aperture. Once I restarted synchronization through iTunes, normal functionality returned.
