Basic glitch in new event creation?

To create an event, I double click on the day (in month view) and I can input an event title. In previous versions of iCal I could tab to the next field (location). In Leopard, this doesn't appear to work. Tabbing just creates an event at a random time. I then have to double click the event to add details.

jamiboy,
I too have noticed that "glitch." Tab only works for moving from the Name field to the Location, All Day, and the From fields, but will not go beyond the From field.
I recommend that you provide iCal Feedback.

  • Way to Stop Errant New Event Creation on Click in Month View?

    When in Month view in Calendar (Mac, 10.9.2), double clicking on a day creates a new event. Is there a way to change the settings so double-clicking on a day opens Day view instead of creating a new event?
    Based on how frequently I have this problem now, and the fact that I can't remember it occurring before, I surmise that this "feature" is a new addition in Mavericks? I don't like it--is there a way to change?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You can do it with keyboard shortcuts.
    Select the event. Press Cmd+X. Press Cmd and right or left arrow (depending if it is forward or back in months) until you are in the correct month. Press Cmd+V to pase on the same day in the new month.
    Best wishes

  • The tab order on new event creation needs changed.  Can I get some +1's?

    Can I get some +1's here that the Apple iCal Product Manager can use as Customer Feedback?
    The Tab Order on creating new event pretty much doesn't reflect reality in creating events, and it would be better if it were changed ASAP. If it's not already in Snow Leopard, it should be in the _soonest point release after_ Snow Leopard release.
    Right? +1 if you agree.
    ------- Background --------
    When creating a new event, the tab order between fields is:
    . Event name
    . Location
    . AM/PM of Start time
    . Minute of End time
    . AM/PM of End time
    . Note
    In many (most) cases, the start hour is wrong:
    . If the event is being created from the Month view, the default Start hour is the top of the current hour. This has a low probability of being correct (1:24 worst case, 1:12 best case).
    . If the event is being created from either the week or day, but is being started within the start/end time of an already-existing event, the user must click outside an existing event to create the new one - e.g. at a "wrong" start time - then correct the start time. (Attempting to click within an event and drag start-to-finish time simply causes the existing event to move, or an error dialog to be raised if you aren't the event owner.) (This need arises when you have multiple calendars, some of which containing "events" which are placeholders, or notices, vs. real events.)
    Most commonly, I find myself needing the following Tab order:
    . Event name
    . Location
    . Start hour
    . Start AM/PM
    . End hour
    . End minute (to allow for changing the 1-hour meeting default)
    . Note
    iCal can use its current logic to deduce end AM/PM: It currently defaults to a 1-hour meeting, so when Start AM/PM is set, it can simply set Ending hour/minute/AM-PM to 1 hour later, then leave End AM/PM alone as the user sets Ending hour/minute.
    Can I get a witness?
    (Note that the system preference for permitting "Full Keyboard Access" does not resolve this issue. It simply adds all fields to the tab order, which is just as aggravating.)

    I still hate the tab order.

  • Why is ical automatically setting new events as "all day" events in Lion

    After upgrading to Lion, everytime I add a new event in the Month panel it automatically selects the "all day" checkbox.  It didn't used to do this and it's kind of annoying....anybody else?

    Gustlock,
    Default event creation in Month view results in an all day event.
    Lion iCal Help (Add events to a calendar) says: "Add a new event in Month view by double-clicking within the day you want the event to appear. Enter a name and time duration for the event in the event’s title field, and then press Return."
    So, in your case try entering "Meeting at 9am"...that will create a one hour event named Meeting.
    Lion iCal data detectors are supposed to make entry easier??

    monkeyde,
    You are getting entagled in the two confusing meanings of the term pixels, namely as a unit identical to points and equalling 1/72 inch, and the basic component of raster images (and effects).
    You can read on in this very recent thread:
    Is there a way to get Illustrator to know how many pixels are in an inch?

  • Ical not showing new events and older events as well

    Hi There,
    Since (as I recall) last monday, iCal started to work strange. Or, better put in other way: stopped working.
    I have three calendars only (personal, work and "no category), all of them syncing with iCloud. There are two other local calendars too (in "my mac"), but I don't use them and they are unchecked.
    I only use my macbook white and an iphone 3GS, also syncing with iCloud.
    I don't subscribe any external calendar and don't accept any kind of invitation. It is a basic-simple use: I set my appointments (throw the whole year) and want to see / edit them on iphone.
    Finally, I use reminders (on iphone) a lot and share the "personal" calendar with my with (she uses iCloud on her iphone and ipad).
    The problems are basic two (as I could indentify so far):
    1) I can't set new appointments on iCal. Or better: I may set, but cannot see it. For instance, when a double click the Feb 24th to set a appointment, nothing happens, but a "New event" apperars on iCloud, right way. Looks like that iCal is setting the event up, but it just does not show it. Lately, I've discovered that when I go to the week view in iCal, it shows the event, but it just don't appear on month or year views;
    2) There are a bunch of events that appear correctly on iCloud (and iphone) but just don't show up in my iCal.
    I've been trying to find a solution, already followed a couple of step-by-step possible solution (deleted local calendars, took off iClound accoun from iCal, deleted all files on specific folders in my library), but anything work out. It just don't work anymore.
    Scary...
    I have just quit iCal and started using iCloud as my main input way for may events.... Wonder if anyone else is facing something like this and if is there any sollution out there.
    Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for my bad English.

    i have a similar problem. i can't add any new events to my ical. i can do it on ical on icloud but not on the ical on my itouch. i can't edit them either. it tells me the event can not be saved because a calendar has not been chosen. it was working just fine yesterday and now it won't work.
    i'm new to this on line community stuff. i posted my questions but i don't know how i'm supposed to see any answers. i guess it doesn't matter that i even ask you this or reply to you because i don't plan to be able to see any comments to this. oh well. computer stuff is just crap  sometimes. i guess we have to learn to deal with it.
    my paper calendar NEVER gave me any problems. i would just pull out my trusty pen and write down my appointment and wallah! it was done. it wouldn't get erased or deleted or stop working.

  • Automatic event creation in iCal

    I'd like to be able to create a standard set of events in iCal whose dates are based on another event.
    For a simplified example, if I have a meeting on Wednesday, I'd like to be able to run a script of some sort to add: "Confirm Appt" 2 days before, "Collect Papers" 1 day before, and "Followup" 1 week after.
    I've tried putting something together in Automator, but the existing actions don't allow for this kind of event creation. The closest I came up with was series of prompts with the correct event titles, but with predetermined rather than relative dates.
    Anyone know of a utility or script, or Automator add-on that could do this? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Hope you haven't done this manually yet!
    Try:
    1) Find Events in iCal
    - Find "Events"
    - Whose "Calendar" is "School Days" and whose "Summary" is equal to "A Day"
    2) Run AppleScript
    on run {input, parameters}
    set letterday_startdates to {}
    repeat with i from 1 to count of the input
    set letter_day to item i of the input
    tell application "iCal"
    set letterday_startdates to (letterday_startdates & (start date of the letter_day))
    end tell
    end repeat
    repeat with i from 1 to count of letterday_startdates
    set letterday_startdate to item i of letterday_startdates
    -- Class 1
    set Class1_Start to (date "9:25 am" in letterday_startdate)
    set Class1_End to (date "10:15 am" in letterday_startdate)
    -- Class 2
    set Class2_Start to (date "2:00 pm" in letterday_startdate)
    set Class2_End to (date "2:45 pm" in letterday_startdate)
    tell application "iCal"
    tell calendar "School Days"
    make new event at the end of events with properties {summary:"Class 1", start date:Class1_Start, end date:Class1_End}
    make new event at the end of events with properties {summary:"Class 2", start date:Class2_Start, end date:Class2_End}
    end tell
    end tell
    end repeat
    return input
    end run
    You would then either have to change the class times in the AppleScript for each A-G day, or make 7 different workflows with the same actions, just configured for each school day. For example, workflow A has "A Day" in the first action and the times for A Day classes in the run applescript. Workflow B has "B Day" in the first action and the times for B Day classes in the run applescript, etc.
    Hope it helps!

  • Which method is used for event creation

    Dear All,
    My client has more then one Purchase Organization. Workflow for Purchase order release very from pur org to pur org. For example - workflow WS92000030 is trigger when PO is created for India pur org where as workflow WS92000021 is trigger when PO is created for US pur org.
    I checked and found that same Object Type - BUS2012 & event - RELEASESTEPCREATED is used in all Pur. Org PO release workflow. Also I found in Transaction code - SWETYP that Type linkage activate for  BUS2012, RELEASESTEPCREATED in all the PO workflow - WS92000030 & WS92000021.
    As per my knowledge, event can be created in various way such as Function module, Change document, General status management, Business Transaction Events etc.
    Can some one guide me, how can I found that which method is used for event creation in different pur org?
    How can I fould what is the fuctional module used for event creation if Fuctional module used for event creation.
    For your information, I can see in T. Code - SWUO that 'Result dependent on a check function module'  for all the workflow - WS92000030, WS92000021 etc.
    Thanks in

    Hi Sahu,
    I dont think they have used the Function module or change document or any other kind of methods to trigger the workflow. This is because RELEASESTEPCREATED method is a standard method and it will be triggered by standard SAP. They can not make changes in standard sap saying RELEASESTEPCREATED should be triggered for this Purchase Org .
    Istead what i think is, they might have given the Event Condition for each workflow.
    In SWDD>> basic settings>> Start Events, we can give condition on triggering the workflow.
    Please check this.

  • How to set a default start and/or end date for New Events based on trigger date.

    I'm using the CalendarActivityListener to get current row when clicking on an existing event. As per previous posts this listener gives you access to event detail including Start Date, End Date, etc.
    However, what I want to do is to default the start (and end) dates for New Events based on the trigger date.
    I've tried the CalendarListener and can grab the Trigger Date from it - however, I can't see a way to pass this directly to the popup/dialog I'm using to create the new event.
    At present I'm putting the TriggerDate into the ADFContext session scope e.g. ADFContext.getCurrent().getSessionScope().put("TriggerDate",calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());
    Then, I've tried multiple approaches to try and "get" the TriggerDate from session scope to drop it into my new Calendar Event basically, I'm trying to default the InputField(s) associated with the Start Date using the value from the session - I've tried
    1. setting the default value for the InputField in the jspx using a binding expression i.e. value="#{sessionScope.TriggerDate}" - this actually sets the value appropriately when the jspx is rendered but, when I go to create I get a NPE and I can't debug. I assumed that it might be a Date type issue - it would appear that CalendarListener provides a date of type java.util.Date and that the StartDate attribute of my VO/EO/table is a DATE and therefore requires oracle.jbo.domain.Date so I tried casting it - to no effect
    2. Using a Groovy expression *(StartDate==null?adf.context.sessionScope.TriggerDate:StartDate)* in my calendar's EventVO to default the Start Date to the same result
    Any thoughts or ideas?

    John,
    Thanks for that suggestion - could not get it to work. However, I did manage a different approach. I finally determined the sequence of events in terms of how the various events and listeners fire (I think).
    Basically, the CalendarActivityListener fires, followed by the listener associated with the Calendar object's Create facet, followed finally by the CalendarEventListener - the final is where the TriggerEvent is available and then finally, control is passed to the popup/dialog in the Create facet. So, my approach of trying to set/get the TriggerDate in the user's HTTP session was doomed to failure because it was being get before it had been set :(
    Anyway, I ended up adding a bit of code to the CalendarEvent listener - it grabs the current BindingContext, navigates through the DCBindingContainer to derive an Iterator for the ViewObject which drives the calendar and then grabs the currently active row. I then do a few tests to make sure we're working with a "new" row because I don't want to alter start & end dates associated with an existing calendar entry and then I define the Start and End dates to be the Trigger Date.
    Works just fine. Snippet from the listener follows
    BindingContext bindingContext = BindingContext.getCurrent();+
    *if ( bindingContext != null )    {*+
    DCBindingContainer dcBindings = (DCBindingContainer) bindingContext.getCurrentBindingsEntry();+
    DCIteratorBinding iterator = dcBindings.findIteratorBinding("EventsView1Iterator");+
    Row currentRow = iterator.getCurrentRow();+
    if ( currentRow.getAttribute("StartDate") == null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("StartDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+
    if (currentRow.getAttribute("EndDate")==null)+
    currentRow.setAttribute("EndDate", calendarEvent.getTriggerDate());+

  • New event with no sound from iPhone

    When I set a new event with an alert from iPhone, on iCal of my iMac (synched via Mobile Me) I always got as alert a "message with no sound". How can I get an alert with sound (on my iMac) when I set a new event from the iPhone?

    First of all check the volume buttons....if they are fine
    Try and do the basic operations...
    - reboot - reset
    - if it is still not working then once try restoring it through itunes....it should solve most of the problems...
    - if it still exists then it must be a hardware issue...if u r under the warranty period then apple will replace it for sure....
    hope this helps you...

  • Event creation with status management

    Hello esteemed gurus ... it's your friendly workflow noob again
    It seems once people get a sniff that there is a someone who knows a bit about workflow in the company, everyone wants a piece of you!
    So... I have been asked to setup a workflow that will trigger when a user changes a user status on an SD contract. I've done some reading and I believe I'm nearly there but need a little help ...
    I have setup event creation with transaction BSVZ for object category VBK, specified my status profile, and business object BUS2034 and I'm using the event "CHANGED", within this I have set a status restriction to particular status of my user status profile.
    In my workflow definition I have specified the start event "CHANGED" for my business object BUS2034.
    The thing is, the workflow starts for every change to the contract, whereas I was expecting it to only start when the particular status I defined in my status management was set in the contract header.
    Are there any additional settings I need to make in order to restrict the starting conditions of the this workflow?
    Many thanks once again.
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
    There is two options to restrict the workflow.
    First one is start condition. You can check the workflow log. If your required field is populated in the Workflow container you can use start condition to restrict the workflow. In the Basic data of workflow template, Start condition is there. You can use the condition editor to set the condition.
    If your field is not populated by default, then you can use check function module for this. You need to create one FM, and in transaction swe2, the FM needs to be Configured. The concept is, based on the Sales document number you can get the required field and check the condition inside the FM. If the condition satisfied just leave it. The workflow will be triggered. If the condition is not satisfied raise a Exception. So that the Workflow will not be triggered.
    Thanks,
    Viji.

  • Handling new Events.

    I am curious as to how to go about creating new events. For instance: say I want to create a program that will be used with seismometors (earthquake detection). Each time the little needle starts twitchin' an event is triggered. Obviously there isn't an "EarthquakeEvent" in java. How do I go about creating a new event, assigning such an event, and using it to trigger a new listener? Any suggestions?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Eric

    I guess my question was really this, how do you link the signal from the seismometor to the event? Creating the EarthquakeEvent class is a matter of extending and coding.. but how do you assign the signalled event as an EarthquakeEvent? IE: How does the computer know that the MouseEvent is triggered by the mouse and not the keyboard? More importantly, how does the programmer tell the computer to distinguish between the two? (The computer obviously must know that the MouseEvent is triggered by IO device in the "mouse-port", and a KeyEvent is triggered from the IO device in the "keyboard-port") So how is it that the programmers of the MouseEvent, and KeyEvent classes (basically) connect the hardware to the software?

  • In new event window how do I change the auto settings?

    As an example of this question, each new event window always has "all day event" checked, how do I change this to be automatically unchecked?

    catknox,
    Are you using Lion iCal? If so, iCal now uses data detectors for event creation. The "Month" view automatically creates an all day event unless you enter a specific time.
    Here are some event creation rules from the iCal Help Center:
    Click Add at the top of the iCal window or press Command (⌘)-N.Events are added automatically to your default calendar.
    If you want to choose a different calendar for the event, hold down the Add button (+), and then choose a calendar.
    To change your default calendar, choose iCal > Preferences, click General, and then select a calendar from the Default Calendar pop-up menu.
    Enter a name, date, and time duration for the event, and then press Return.For example, you can enter “Super Bowl Party Feb 6,” “Movie with Rebecca on Friday at 7pm,” “Soccer Game on Saturday from 11am-1pm,” or “Breakfast with Jon,” and then press Return.
    If you don’t enter a time duration for the event, iCal sets the event’s duration to 1 hour.
    If you don’t enter any time information for the event, iCal makes the event an all-day event.
    If you enter “breakfast” or “morning,” iCal sets the event to start at 9 a.m.
    If you enter “lunch “ or “noon,” iCal sets the event to start at 12 p.m.
    If you enter “dinner” or “night,” iCal sets the event to start at 8 p.m.
    To set any other event options (for example, to set your event to repeat, add an alert, or invite others to the event), make your changes in the event’s editor, and then click Done.
