Basic iphone

Is it possible to permanently block a particular incoming phone number ? How? How to unblock?

It's not exactly blocking, but what some of us have done is to create or download a "silent" ringtone and assign it to the troublesome number. Your phone will still vibrate if you have that turned on, and the caller will still go to voicemail, but it won't ring.

  • Basic iPhone to iPhone sync?

    This feels like such a basic thing, but I do it so infrequently that I don't remember how it works nor can I figure out where to get help.
    I accidentally shattered the screen on my iPhone 3G. I'm trying to copy everything from that phone onto my first generation iPhone until I can replace the broken one.
    How do I copy everything from my 3G phone to my first generation phone?

    iTunes creates and maintains a backup for each iPhone synced with iTunes on the same computer, which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process for each iPhone.
    You need to restore your original iPhone with iTunes from the backup for your 3G. You will be able to select this after the firmware is re-installed on your original iPhone.

  • Is there a note app that syncs with the native iphone notes app

    Looking for a feature rich app to pull notes from the native iPhone app.   I Like holding down the home button to tell Siri to take a note but want to do more with the note after she has taken it.  Is there a note app that pulls from the basic iPhone notes app?

    You Both can Add one email Account on Both Phones and then sync the Calender With Email - This way when one will add a reminder or event it will automatically synced to the other

  • Itunes 10 won't recognize my iphone 3G

    i just have a basic iphone 3g and until recently itunes recognized it. i tried uninstalling itunes and re-installing with the recent itunes 10 version. when i plug my iphone into any usb port on my computer windows will recognize it and charge my phone, but it doesn't show up in my itunes. it also allows me to take my pictures off when autoplay pops up, but that's it. when i plugged in my iphone and opened itunes nothing shows up on the left side bar. only an alert window pops up saying itunes isn't the default player and would i like to change that . i have another media player that i normally use to play/organize my music, but i thought maybe if i made itunes the default player instead it would help. it didn't change anything. now every so often when i plug my iphone in and open itunes a window pops up saying "itunes was unable to load provider data from sync services. reconnect or try again later." i've gone through all the troubleshooting suggestions on the apple site and nothing seems to work. i'm hoping someone on here can help.

  • Sharing the calendar of iPhone

    how can i share my iphone calender with my friends? can  i do that or i cant?

    The basic iPhone calendar function is designed to sync with a desktop computer when you sync your phone through iTunes. It's fairly basic. However, the iPhone supports a variety of wireless calendar and clould-based calendaring solutions.
    By far the easiest is to use Google Calendar, though Apple's own MobileMe (soon iCloud) can perform a similar function. You can create one or more calendars in Google calendar and have them appear on your phone. Entering an event on your phone will automatically update the Google calendar, and you can access the calendar through web browsers and calendaring apps (like Outlook and iCal). You can choose to share any of your calendars with your friends or make them public, and you can control on an individual basis whether they can see only free-busy time, see the details of items on your calendar, or if they have permission to modify the items on your calendar.
    Google provides two mechanisms for using Google Calendar:
    Using Google as an Exchange server
    Using Google as a CalDAV service

  • Can anyone assist with getting iPhone 3G to work that friend just gave me?

    A friend just bought a new iPhone 4 and he gave me his 3G iPhone. It is in excellent shape and I was hoping to get it to operate, initially as an Ipod/Itouch (without phone/internet service) and then possibly with phone/internet service) if it is possible to do it using my T-Mobile sim card and service plan. The 3G phone is a 16GB Model A1241. My friend wiped off all apps and information so the only thing that comes up when I turn it on is the diagram indicating to connect to iTunes and the emergency call function screen. I don't know which version of operating system is on it. It has a sim card in it which is for AT&T. Can someone please give me the steps (and the order in which to do each) necessary to 1. Upgrade the OS 2. Unlock the phone 3. Download the basic iphone apps 4. Use Wi-Fi (I have wireless in my house) 5. Download my music and sync such things as "notes and calendar", 6. Get the phone to operate using my T-Mobile service (I can upgrade my plan to include the internet if the phone will accommodate that function). I know this is a lot to ask but I'm really clueless when it comes to this. If there is software (free or for fee) that you would recommend to accomplish these task, please feel free to list them. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    A no longer activated iPhone can be used as an iPod Touch.
    To install a firmware update on a no longer activated iPhone or to restore a no longer activated iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed, the no longer activated SIM card must be inserted in the iPhone - the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated, which you have.
    The iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T only. AT&T does not unlock the iPhone for any reason or under any circumstances.
    1. Upgrade the OS
    If the current firmware version hasn't been installed, you should be prompted to do this the first time you connect the iPhone to iTunes on your computer. Just follow the prompts.
    2. Unlock the phone
    Already answered.
    3. Download the basic iphone apps
    The iPhone includes basic apps - the basic apps are included with the iPhone's firmware/OS. If you want to download and install any 3rd party apps from the iTunes app store, you need an iTunes account.
    4. Use Wi-Fi (I have wireless in my house)
    The iPhone includes wi-fi access and a no longer activated iPhone can be used as an iPod Touch with wi-fi access for internet access.
    5. Download my music and sync such things as "notes and calendar"
    To transfer music from your iTunes library, this is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. When your iPhone is connected to iTunes, it will be available under Devices in the iTunes source list. Select the iPhone under Devices to make the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes available.
    The iPhone supports syncing notes with the Mail.app notes feature on your Mac. You can sync calendars/calendar events with iCal and contacts with the Address Book on your Mac.
    6. Get the phone to operate using my T-Mobile service (I can upgrade my plan to include the internet if the phone will accommodate that function).
    Already answered. The iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T only.

  • Contacts shown on ipad facetime won't transfer to my recently restored iphone

    My iphone had been playing up of late, and resulted in me having to restore the factory settings, before I could back everything up properly. I'm now left with a basic iphone, and all my contacts etc backed up on my ipad. For some reason these won't transfer via icloud and won't merge. They also dont show up on my icloud control panel.
    Any suggestions to avoid me the arduous task of tansferring them one by one?!

    You could use an app like Download the app My Contacts Backup. to back up the contacts on your iPad as a vCard attachment to an email.  Send the email to yourself, then open it on your computer and add the contacts to iCloud as explained here: iCloud: Import a vCard.  If you see duplicate contacts on your iPad after doing this it means that you may be syncing them from an external service such as Gmail, Yahoo or an exchange account.  If that's the case you will need to disable contacts syncing with the account in order to remove the duplicates.

  • IPhone has stopped playing certain songs, crashes when apps are opened

    Over the past few days, I've started experiencing some odd problems with my first-gen iPhone. The first problem I experienced was that third party apps purchased from the iTunes store wouldn't open. When I selected them, they would launch and then close right away. This happened with most - but not all 3rd party apps. All of the basic iPhone processes, like YouTube, stocks, email, etc. all worked fine. I've tried resetting or recharging the phone - sometimes it works and I can then open the apps and other times, it doesn't and the problem continues.
    The other issue is that some songs won't play on my iPhone. The song comes up in the player but there's no sound. I did a little bit of investigating and it appears that the songs that won't play were purchased through iTunes and not loaded from a CD. I'm not experiencing this issue with every purchased song, though. Some of them play, others will not. From what I can tell, there's no discernible pattern for which songs play and which don't. I thought perhaps it was an issue with the amount of time since I had purchased the song but that doesn't appear to be the cause. I have some songs I downloaded a year ago that will play, where other year-old songs will not. Similarly, a few songs I purchased just last week won't play, where others purchased last week will. I can play these songs on other hardware - my iMac, streaming through AppleTV.
    I've tried everything - resetting the phone, removing the content and reloading it, and finally doing a factory reset on the phone but nothing has worked. This phone is close to 2 years old. Is it on its last legs? I'm waiting on the iPhone 3.0 and will most certainly upgrade so I'm not overly concerned about the long term effects of these issues. However, since I'm anticipating that the new iPhone won't be released immediately, I'd like to have a working iPhone for at least a few more weeks. Any ideas what might be happening?

    Try restoring your phone as new, not from a backup. This is different from a rest. See p. 141 of the manual... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

  • HT4623 first of all, I dont understand this stuff....but on my Iphone 3 I use to have skpye on it now it will not load since the IOS.4.2.1   now what do I do

    Well first of all, you must speak in basic english...I have a  basic Iphone 3....which I use to have Skpye on it..after restoreing it, it will not allow me to add Skype to it now......any ideas?  the Software is always updated but not to the IOS.4.4  only IOS.4.2.1

    The latest version of Skype will not work on such an old version of iOS. I believe it needs 4.3, which you cannot get on your iPhone 3G. Restore to a backup that was done while you still had Skype on the iPhone.

  • Apple iPhone Wipe Policy

    Didn't see an exact category for this question, but felt it best fit in Basic iPhone questions. Thanks.
    One of my employees recently brought their iPod to a Retail Store to have the battery replaced. They gave her a brand new phone since she had Apple car, but I had a question regarding the wipe policy of Apple Stores and iPhones.
    Since she was hooked up to our Exchange server she had all of the contacts and emails in her phone. Will the Apple Store immediately wipe the device when they bring the new one? Should I have anything to worry about regarding our company's information?
    Thank you in advance.
    Message was edited by: Donders

    They will likely not immediately wipe the device. It will be sent back for a factory refurb, and should be wiped at that point.
    For future reference, I initiate a wipe before handing a phone over for replacement (Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, which is a secure wipe).
    Note that with an Exchange account on the device, a remote wipe can be issued from the Exchange server (which will take effect the next time the iPhone has an active network connection).

  • [iPhone SDK] WebService Options

    So anyone reading this, probably has seen the numerous other topics about how the iPhone and SOAP simply is on the complexity level that makes it almost not worth the effort.
    Multiple places have recommended: RESTful Web Services
    As an alternative method for doing it.
    Given I have spent the last multiple years using SOAP driven webservices... going a new path is well.. "interesting"
    Does anyone out there have a very basic iPhone code segment, that will show the usage of a RESTful Web Service.
    Our long term needs, we have multiple web-service all of which are parameter driven.. With the combination of limited XML functions on the iPhone, we need to do some heavy lifting on the server end... basically putting RESTFul services around our existing SOAP ones.
    So any basic examples on using parameter based calls, via RESTful web-service method... would be very much appreciated.
    Also... anyone that any other alternatives to this issue... it would also be appreciated as at this point, we are identifying what needs to be done... in order to get all our pieces working, without starting over from scratch.

    The appended code adds a record to a Ruby on Rails-based website by treating it as a RESTful web service. (Recent versions of Rails include this capability natively; in this case, I'm exploiting the fact that if you POST an XML data structure corresponding to the structure of a model to a Rails resource, it will create a new resource of the appropriate type.) I've lightly edited it to obscure a few details, but not in any way that will affect you.
    The code registers the user's locale with my site so I have some idea of my user base's demographics. I don't check for success or save the result body (which is the return value of sendSynchronousRequest:returningResponse:error:), since my users don't actually care if this process was successful. If you need to include such checks in your app, or want to use the result body, read the URL Loading System article in your documentation.
    Keep in mind, though, that there are several approaches to REST. You could send XML back and forth, or you could use the application/x-www-form-urlencoded or multipart/form-data formats used by HTML forms. If the other end of the connection is Mac OS X Server, you could even send NSCoder-serialized objects or XML property lists back and forth! Just use whatever you find easiest with the tools you have available and the requirements you need to meet.
    What makes it REST is:
    1. I'm specifying what I want to operate on (the set of all registrations) with a URL.
    2. I'm specifying the operation I want to perform (adding a record) with the HTTP method. (If I wanted to delete the registration later, I could do it by using the HTTP DELETE method on /registrations/434.xml, or whatever its URL ended up being. Actually, I've forbidden that action except by administrators, but that's beside the point.)
    - (NSString*)locale { (code omitted due to irrelevance) }
    - (NSString*)xml {
    return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><registration><locale>%@</locale></registration>",
    [self locale]];
    - (void)sendRegistration {
    // This method is invoked as a background thread, so it doesn't
    NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init];
    NSURL * url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://mycompany.com/registrations.xml"];
    NSMutableURLRequest * request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
    [request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"];
    [request setValue:@"application/xml" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"];
    [request setHTTPBody:[[self xml] dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
    NSURLResponse * response;
    NSError * error;
    [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
    // We're ignoring all the outputs because we don't really care.
    [pool release];
