Basic PC requirements for Premiere Pro, After Effects editing DSLR video?

I shoot primarily stills with Canon DSLR but have a number of (short) video projects... my current computer is not up to speed to handle much video editing etc. I'm in the market for a desktop and wonder what would be a good "basic" build or confirguation I could start with and grow into if I continue with more videos. I'm not by any means a Tech kinda guy... so any and all input appreciated.
Also... I'm om a tight budget... are there machines out there good to go out of the box... or is a build the way to go? Thanks

  • Integration of other Adobe products..Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Encore DVD

Prior to obtaining CS2 I have been working with the other video/audio Adobe tools; Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Encore DVD.
I fully expected to see integration of these products into the Bridge application after CS2 installation. I was disappointed, there does not appear to be any such integration. I do hope that this is in plan, and that I don't have to spend an "upgrade" fee to use integration that should have been there to begin with.
Even if there is no further integration, it would be nice to be able to continue using the Bridge as my "file manager" in the event I have to transfer my CS2 activation to another computer; after all I still have 4 licensed Adobe products installed on the machine, even if there not, quote, CS2 applications.

I can't use Bridge with my video products anymore. I have 3 systems in my personal development environment. I am now past the 30 day period before activation of CS2 is required on my video editing machine. Now I am no longer able to use Adobe Bridge with my other Adobe (video) products.
Also, now I've noticed that the next level of video products is available, they now have Bridge integrated. As I anticipated in my first append, I cannot continue using Bridge with my Adobe video products unless I spend more money for an upgrade. If the intention is to have Bridge become an integral tool in the creative process, this policy is short sighted. It can't be that difficult to bring out an update for the CS2 level of bridge that would enable it to work with users that have AE 6.5 or PPro 1.5 installed.

  • Premiere Pro/After Effects -learning proper workflow?

I'm just beginning with video editing in Premiere Pro/After effects. I have used more basic apps such as iMovie and GoPro Studio. I understand the principles of post production for still images as I am a veteran photo retoucher. But as I want to produce videos with more professional productions values, my plan is to learn these Adobe apps from the ground up -and properly.
    2 questions:
1 - Is it correct to assume that most video/audio editing will be performed in Premiere Pro with After Effects used primarily for special affects & enhancements beyond the scope of Premiere Pro? It seems that many features are "Shared", so I want to direct my training efforts in the most appropriate directions.
2 - Would Lynda.com be the best resource for training? I see that some of their offerings are not always for the most current versions of some apps.
There seems to be a jumbled assortment of basic training videos from Adobe. Some are intros from Lynda.com while others are from Adobe and go back to CS6.
Note to Adobe: I would like to see more complete & integrated ADOBE training materials offered for the various CC apps, which would be updated in reasonable relation to newer versions of the various CC apps. I would be willing to pay for quality training materials created by working industry pros.

premiere pro to edit. they have added some audio features to premiere, but if you do need more advanced audio editing, you can use adobe audition.  the same can be said of premiere and after effects. they seem to keep slowly adding AE features into premiere pro, but when you need to take it beyond the basics, you then need AE.  i would say AE is for visual effects, composting, advanced motion graphics & titling, and fixing video problems with a clip when you cannot in premiere. AE has some tools like the clone tool (photoshop) and rotoscope that premiere doesn't. while you can do some of the same thru different methods in premiere, its just more advanced in AE.
2 - Would Lynda.com be the best resource for training?
most of the information on lynda can be found thru others tutorials on youtube and adobe, and blog type websites etc.  however, you could spend a month digging thru the random and unorganized, repetitive information on the web, or just watch a series geared specifically towards the subject you want to learn.  time vs money. i have watched some lynda videos and the essentials courses for adobe products are very well done imo.

  • New Machine purchase advice to run Premiere Pro & After Effect 5.5

I am about to purchase a new pc with the following specs: Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), Intel® Core™i7-930 processor(8MB L2 Cache, 2.80GHz), 12GB Tri Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 6 DIMMs, ATI Radeon HD5970 2GB GDDR5 video card. Are these good features? I cannot find any compatability or certification for any ATI video cards on the Adobe site. Is the video card, ram and cpu good to get the acceleration featured of CS5.5 (specifically Premiere Pro & After Effect)?

    To answer your question:
That build could be better equipped.
First off, Windows 7 Home Premium maxes out at 16GB of RAM. This means that if you want to put in 24GB total anytime in the near future, Windows 7 Home Premium will make only the first 16GB available for programs. You will need Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate in order to use more than 16GB of RAM.
Second, Premiere Pro CS5.5 needs more than 12GB to run at its best. However, since that build fills up all six DIMM slots to attain 12GB, you would have to discard some of the DIMMs in order to add more RAM at all. As a result, if you must have only 12GB, I'd recommend three 4GB DIMMs instead of six 2GB DIMMs. These days, 4GB DIMMs sell for about $40 to $50 USD each ($120 to $150 for 12GB, or $240 to $300 for 24GB) whereas a year ago they sold for $200 to $300 USD apiece ($600 to $900 for 12GB; or well over $1,000 for 24GB).
Third, Adobe does not currently support the use of any ATi or AMD GPU in its MPE GPU acceleration feature. This means that any ATi or AMD GPU, including the top-of-the-line models, will force MPE to run in software-only mode. And software-only mode is often 10 times or more slower than MPE GPU mode. At present the MPE GPU mode supports only Nvidia GPU-equipped cards with 896MB or more RAM and CUDA support.
Fourth, that HD 5970 is a dual-GPU card. Unfortunately, Adobe does not support the use of more than one GPU at all, which means that the HD 5970 goes half-unused in any flavor of CS5.x - and then, it goes to software-only mode, to boot since it's not an Nvidia GPU. As a result, the HD 5970 performs no better than an HD 5850 in CS5.x, especially since the HD 5970 actually consists of two HD 5850's on a single card. In other words, dual-GPU cards are a total waste of money, as far as Premiere Pro and After Effects are concerned.
Finally, if that system has only one hard drive, I'd strongly recommend adding two or more additional hard drives. This is because Adobe requires a minimum of two hard drives (one for the OS and programs, the second for everything else) just to run without severe slowdowns in performance. The more (hard drives), the better.

1)Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and look for file named hosts inside etc folder.
2)Copy the hosts file to Desktop and open the same with notepad.
Check with the hosts file entries , let me know if there are any Adobe entries like 127.0.01 xxx.,adobe.com .activate.adobe.com....etc?
If there are no Adobe entries in Hosts file .
If you wish , you may uinstall and reinstall the app .
You may try below steps :

  • Premiere Pro & After Effects close after a few seconds after the startup?

    Hi,
I bought Creative Cloud yesterday and everything installed just fine. I haven't tried all Apps yet, but so far Premiere Pro and After Effects close after a few seconds after the startup. There is no dialogue or error window of any kind, the programs just shut down automatically.
The weird thing is that I had the trial before, but also uninstalled it, but then the apps worked just fine.
I searched the forum but couldn't find anyone with the exact same issue. I hope someone can help me out.

  • Premiere Pro/After Effects CC on Mac OSX crashes when moving media

I have Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, in both programs whenever I attempt to move any media (any format) to the timeline from the media browser window Premiere (and After Effects) crashes immediately.
I'm using a MacBook Pro w/ retina, running latest OS, and I have the Microsoft Office suite of apps installed.
Customer service had a go fixing it but to no avail, apparently it has something to do with fonts if that helps anyone, i've reverted all the fonts on my Mac back to the default but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Matt,
    Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Dynamic Link for Premiere and After Effects CS4 with Titles

I've created a Rolling Title in Premiere Pro CS4.  I'd like to create a Dynamic Link to bring the title into After Effects CS4 to add effects that will show up in Premiere.  I've watched a few video tutorials on Dynamic Link and read the documentation and tried a variety of permutations but can't seem to get this done.
Also saw something in these forums about problems using Dynamic Link with Titles (as opposed to regular clip??)
And something about Premiere and After Effects projects being saved together ??in same folder - is that correct?
So, could someone explain if this can be done and the right way to do it?
    Thanks

Thanks Mylenium - appreciate the quick and focused reply.
I would like to keep the benefits of the Premiere Pro Titler (to play with the length of time by stretching or squashing the Title block on the timeline; to type in time to stay on screen at end; ease in and out etc . . .).  If I do render out a png / tiff / or psd sequence with alpha, and bring that into AFX to play with.  Will I still retain the ability to use the Titler features in Premire Pro, or do I essentially have to convert it to 'regular footage' on reimport as opposed to a 'Title?"
    Thanks

  • Can I not buy one plan for Photo AND Video editing? (i.e. Photosop/Lightroom and Premiere Pro/After Effects)

I need photo and video editing...but obviously don't want to pay for 2 separate plans. Also, it looks like with the single app plan you couldn't even get Premiere/After Effects (for instance) together for $20 a month, just one or the other? I've searched around the website but could use some additional clarification please. Thanks,

  • How do I fix yellow spots on face and background with Premiere Pro/After Effects CS4?

    Hi,
I have the CS4 version of pretty much all Adobe products.  I have to color correct and edit a video that was shot during a seminar inside a conference room with an average digital camera.  The camera zoomed in a lot on the subject when he was talking.  So, it's not the best quality video and I'm trying to make it look as nice as possible.  I've done some general color correcting and it looks okay, but there are a number of yellow spots on the subject and in the background, mainly on brownish surfaces (the speaker is African American).  This probably appeared because of the low picture quality and zoom, but how can I fix it?  When I do the general color correction, the spots just change color, but don't disappear.  I played around with different things, but couldn't fix it. Is there a way to do this with Premiere Pro or After Effects?  Or would it be very complicated?  Or not possible at all?  The camera zooms in and out a few times, too, so would that pose a problem for correcting this?
    Thanks for any info!

It can be done in After Effects.

  • Sony NEX-5N AVCHD 2.0 1080p50 and Premiere Pro/After Effects CS5.5

    Hi all,
I have a new Sony NEX-5N and have shot some test 1080p50 video using it.
On my quest for some new editing/production software to close the loop I have just downloaded and installed a Trial Version of CS5.5 Production Premium.
I am able to load my video files into Premiere Pro.
However, when I attempt to open the Video File in After Effects, I recieve the following Error message:
After Effects error: '00023.MTS' cannot be imported - this '.mts' file is damaged or unsupported.
I have tried renaming the extension to .MPG, .M4V, .M2TS all with exactly the same result.
Perhaps this is a limitation of the Trial Version or perhaps a limitation of After Effects CS5.5.  Is anyone able to advise?
As extra information I include below the TEXT output from MediaInfo for the file I am able to load into Premiere Pro CS5.5 but not After Effects.
    Thanks.

I just recorded 4 seconds of a clock pendulum swinging, surprisingly the file was 20Mb!?!?  Anyway, I have made the file available for download at the following location:
    http://andrew.net.au/~rowan/avchd/00032.MTS
You can browse the directory at http://andrew.net.au/~rowan/avchd/ if you need to "right-click" and save as.
I am hoping it is a limitation of the trial as I have noticed a few other "gotchas" with the trial version.
Thanks for the advice about video format, I have noticed that my computer (Core 2 Duo) is very slow to process the H.264 stream, PremierePro cannot play the 30sec stream in realtime (starts to stutter around 23sec) and After Effects starts its stutter almost immediately (both just playing the stream with no effects) - that said WindowsMediaPlayer has no problem playing the same stream at full speed.  I am however reluctant to do any transcoding except to a lossless format as it seems counter intuitive - but this will be the subject of another post, as I don't want to clutter this one.
    Thanks again.

  • Premiere pro / After Effects CS6 upgrade , render doesn't save ?

Hi, I have just upgraded CS5.5 to CS6.
I have opened and converted a previous project in CS6 which is linked to After Effects via the dynamic link. The media opened ok but even though it was fully rendered and saved from the previous version I had to re- render the entire sequence ..l. It's a 4 minute timeline and took over an hour to render in premiere CS6 .
Now I have come back to the project today , I have opened After Effects and then opened the project in premiere pro, all the media is connected but I have a red render line again and another hour to wait for rendering until I can start working.
Any tips on getting the render to save so I don't have to re- render each time I open the project.
Is this a problem with converting older CS5.5 projects in CS6 ?

  • System requirements for Premiere Pro CS5

Adobe has on its website the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5: System Requirements
Unfortunately, this overview is severely lacking in realism and a lot of people were disappointed when their system met these minimum requirements, but still would not do what they expected, or at least not without jerkiness, hiccups and similar issues.
The problem with these requirements as stated is that they are really bare minimum requirements to install the software, but unfortunately it does not tell how well a certain system will perform with the myriad of codecs used and the different needs and expectations people may have about their editing rig. Since this issue is nearly a year old now and nothing tangible has changed, I decided to write this article to help people understand what is realistic to expect, what influences the hardware choices in order to use CS5 to full satisfaction.
CAVEAT: This is my personal opinion, in no way authorized or endorsed by Adobe, who have not seen anything I write here till the moment it has been published here.
    Context:
The nature of one's editing projects can have a major impact on the hardware required to run projects effectively. Long form documentaries, delivered on BRD demand different hardware and priorities in hardware setup then music clips with lots of multicam work and color effects delivered to the web, or wedding video's delivered on DVD. And unfortunately, there is no simple rule saying that if you edit X, you need Y hardware.
The second thing that has a major impact is the source material, the codec used. Back in the old days things were very simple, you had DV material from a tape based camera and that was it. Nowadays, things have grown much more complex. The number of codecs used in source material has grown enormously, the number of formats and frame rates has grown in a similar fashion. We used to have 480, now we have added 720, 1080, 2K, 3K, 4K plus various DSLR and other formats, we had interlaced, now we have progressive as well, we used to have 25 or 29.97 FPS, now we have 24, 25, 29.97, 60 and even more frame rates. We had DV, now we have MPEG2, HDV, XDCAM, P2, AVCHD, RED, Cineform, Matrox, and numerous other codecs.
This makes it all the more confusing for people to know what they need when they start out with video editing to run CS5 successfully.
    The codec issue:
Some codecs are easy to handle for a computer, others are difficult to handle. It is generally known that DV material is very easy to handle and AVCHD is pretty tough to handle. The general rule is that the more compressed the material is, the harder it is for the computer to edit this. GOP (Group of Pictures) structure is an extra burden. The higher the resolution, the harder it is on the computer.
To simplify matters one could differentiate codecs and source material in three categories, based on their properties:
Of course boundaries when using three categories are not always very clear, but the tendency is rather clear. Easy codecs are in the upper left corner, difficult codecs are in the lower right corner. For that reason we have identified three categories, Easy, Intermediate and Difficult.
This is somewhat similar to the color coding PR uses with none, yellow and red in the time line. It is not complete in the overview of common codecs, but is intended to show what the impact can be of different codecs and the hardware requirements.
I realize this is a limited overview and generic in nature. It will not answer all questions, but may be helpful to avoid disappointments. It also has a number of limitations. For instance, uncompressed MS AVI SD material. No GOP structure, no compression, low resolution, that should be at the top left corner, right? Wrong. Uncompressed does not burden the CPU, but is a definite burden on the memory and disk I/O system.
What does that mean in terms of requirements?
    System requirements:
If the codecs you generally use are slightly more than just plain "easy", look at the improvemnts in the next column and repeat for the next column if applicable.
I hope this can benefit people to understand there is more to choosing a system than just following the Adobe site.
Additions or suggestions for improvements are welcome.

    Harm,
A while back you gave me some advice re a kit build for Production Premium, which I submitted for consideration, and for your thoughts I thank youl. Several months on, the powers that be (UK Civil Service) have decided to go a different purchase route. The request has ended up in the hands of a well known computer supplier 'chain' (a prefered supplier) and because they can't supply the Sabertooth board you recommended they have come back to my bosses with a their recommendation based on what they will supply. My question is, would you accept it, will it take advantage of CUDA and do you foresee any problems:
    I am shooting with a Panasonic AG-HMC151E AVCHD. H.264 MPEG-4 compression.
    The chain are quoting:
    Windows 7 64 Ultimate
    CS5.5 PP
    on:
    Intel DX58sO2 Extreme
    i7-970
    Trudata 12GB DDR3 PC3-8500 1066MHz Unbuffered 204-pin
    HP NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2.0GB
    1 x WD 450 velociraptor 10k
    3 x WD 1TB AV-GP Greenpower 64MB SATA-II (NO RAID)
    800W PSU
The problem with preferred suppliers is you get what you are given. Do you think there any 'conflicts' in the above spec?
    Appreciate your opinion
    Regards
    Peter
