Basic PC Spec for premiere

Hello all,
I am looking to view and edit some RED camera footage in CS5 and was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent PC spec that will be able to handle the footage ok?  I don't want to do it raw, just transcode the files and work that way.
Budget is a major issue, but have spotted this and thought it might do the trick for a basic edit:
Processor (CPU):
INTEL SANDYBRIDGE Core I5 2500K SKT1155
Motherboard:
ASUS P8Z68-V LX With Z68 Chipset (NEW B3 VERSION)
2xPCI-E (16x), 2xPCI(1x) & 3xPCI & 32GB RAM Support
Memory:
CORSAIR 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz i5 Memory Kit
Hard Drive:
1TB SATA2 - 3Gbp/s, 7200 RPM
Optical Drive:
SAMSUNG BLU-RAY COMBO Drive, Blu-Ray Reader & DVDRW In One
Graphics Card:
Integrated HD 3000 Graphics @ 850mhz (1100MHz Turbo)
Comes With VGA, DVI & HDMI Outputs As Standard
Any thoughts or advice would be most appreciated.
thanks
pete

That PC is way underspecced for RED. For that resolution, plus the fact that such footage is extremely highly compressed and extremely high resolution to begin with, you really need a dual-Xeon 12-core/24-thread workstation with 24GB or more RAM, a discrete Quadro or a very high end GeForce GPU discrete hardware RAID controller and a four-drive or larger RAID 5. The above configuration listed in your original post is woefully inadequate even for standard-definition MPEG-2 DVD because it has only one hard drive total (editing requires three or more hard drives to function properly) and because that build lacks a discrete GPU (it has only integrated graphics).
One more thing about that proposed build: It isn't the CPU that's entirely to blame; it's the poorly balanced configuration that is to put most of the blame on. That system needs a minimum of three hard drives, a GeForce GTX 560 GPU and (if working with simple AVCHD) 16GB of RAM.
So in other words, for RED you have no choice but to spend a minimum of $6,000 USD on a PC for you to even work with such hi-rez, highly compressed media at all.
By the way, why did you buy a RED camera if you're going to be left with less than $1,000 to buy or build a PC to edit with?

    Hi Guys,
New to the forum. I'll be using Premiere to edit short films and sketches. I'll be using After Effects too. I'm buying a new laptop - a 17.3" Optimus V. Do you think it will run Premiere and the video files fine?
    Processor:
    Intel Core i7 Quad Mobile Processor i7-4900MQ (2.8GHZ) 8MB
    RAM:
    24GB Samsung 1600MHZ SODIMM DDR3 Memory (3X8GB)
    Graphics:
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M - 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX11
    1st Hard-drive:
    240GB Kingston V300 SSD, SATA 6GB (450MB/R, 450 MB/W)
    2nd Hard-drive:
    750GB WD SCORPIO WD7500BPKX, SATA 6GB/S, 16MB CACHE (7200RPM)
No Raid and no mSATA SSD DRIVE.
Does that all sound good? Could I get away with getting a lower spec processor (2.7GHz) to save some cash?
    Thanks very much guys.

Sorry but the advice you have been given is very, well, limited
I have had a bog standard ASUS N56, with i7 cpu, 8Gb RAM and an nVidia 650 GPU, it also has a 1Tb 5400rpm HD
I use CS 5.5 Production Premium and edit native (untranscoded) AVCHD video files.
Premiere works fine, no rendering, no stutter, even with effects applied.
    AE works a treat
    Photoshop is fine
Exporting from Premiere into HD MPG2 or MP4 files is fairly fast.
Its not a substitute for a desktop but for on the move editing, previewing/reviewing it works well

Take an SD card with HD video files on it to your local PC shop and see how the files are played back on various laptops

  • Basic PC requirements for Premiere Pro, After Effects editing DSLR video?

I shoot primarily stills with Canon DSLR but have a number of (short) video projects... my current computer is not up to speed to handle much video editing etc. I'm in the market for a desktop and wonder what would be a good "basic" build or confirguation I could start with and grow into if I continue with more videos. I'm not by any means a Tech kinda guy... so any and all input appreciated.
Also... I'm om a tight budget... are there machines out there good to go out of the box... or is a build the way to go? Thanks

  • Specs for Running Premiere Elements 11

I'm looking at purchasing a computer for running Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on 64-bit, but don't want to spend too much (nothing over $1,000). I wanted to know what specs for a computer I would need to look for (processor, clock speed, dual v. quad core, ram, etc.) in order to run the program fairly smoothly. I don't need professional-grade hardware (such as 16GB of RAM) but I do need something that will be able to handle some laid-back HD editing, keying, rendering, etc. without crashing (or taking a lifetime).
    Thanks.

Well, a lot depends on what type of video you're going to be editing.
But, assuming you're editing AVCHD, Flip, HDV or DV video, you'll be fine with at least a quad core i5 running at 2.8 ghz, 4-8 gig of RAM, a a basic ATI or nVidia graphics card and a 500 gig hard drive. Even better if you have two hard drives: One for your programs and the other for your video storage.
I picked up a computer with these specs for about $650 -- plus the cost of two monitors.

  • Premiere Elements 7 Basic Editing Question for DV

    Hello all,
    I have PE7, a Q6600 quad-core, and Windows 7 64bit.
I have captured about 6 hours of Standard Definition 16:9 DV footage from my church's grand opening ceremony.  Video was captured from an old Pana PV-GS320.
The church wants a dynamic video to be produced from the captured footage (60 minutes at the most in length).  I plan on doing many different effects including semi-transparent video layering, picture in picture, inserting photographs, and inputing audio clips from the ceremony.  The final product will be a standard definition DVD disc.
I've done some research regarding how DV is interlaced and output for  DVD should be interlaced (unless I'm wrong in that conclusion, let me  know).  I also know that doing heavy editing with interlaced footage  (slowing/speeding footage, zooming in and out, rotating, multiple  layering, etc) may create flickering and "mice teeth" in the video.  I've also searched through these forums and keep on running into HD  questions/solutions...  I guess I'm asking an old question that was probably  answered long ago when DV tape ruled the world.
    QUESTION 1:
So, if I may ask, in order to get the best results, should I prepare my raw footage in PE7 before editing it by (1) by deinterlacing it? (2) exporting it as progressive? (3) both? (4) leave it alone and begin editing away? or (5) am I missing another option?
    QUESTION 2:
Also, what resolution would be best to import the photos into the project?
I know the best way to work with any video is to make as little changes as possible to it, but this is unavoidable in my case.  No one wants to sit through 6 hours of video...
Thankyou very much for reading my questions and I really hope you have some time to answer it!  Thanks for any information!  I really appreciate it!
    -141rockwell

Relax, rockwell. You're making it all unnecessarily complicated.
If you've captured your video as DV-AVIs over a FireWire connection, you won't get "mice teeth" in your final product. The program is designed to work with interlaced video and create interlaced DVDs. The results should look virtually as good as the original footage! You can't damage video with "excess editing."
Just trust the program to take care of the technical issues. You can concentrate on the editing.
As for any photos you want to add, you'll get the best results if they're no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size, per the FAQs to the right of the forum.

  • Spec for Adobe Premiere C5.5

    Hi There,
I am trying to put a PC together to run with Windows 7 and with Adobe Creative Suite 5.5.
Would the following spec be suitable to run with Adobe and the Matrox MX02?
    I would appreciate your feedback.
    Regards
    Wayne

    Wayne,
Your previous system spec. that you requested feedback on was quite good:
    Pc spec for video editing
Now you are talking about a slow clock speed dual Xeon, with only 12GB of RAM, Xonar sound and a Matrox MX02 - a system that has a lot of issues:
    - Dual Xeon's, unless you want to buck up to the $1700/each level of processors, cost lots and are not as good for CS5.5 as either a X58 6-core (i7-970, i7-980, i7-980x, i7-990x) or i7-2600k Sandy bridge CPU.
    - Matrox MX02 - I don't have any personal experience, but loads of users are complaining on this forum regarding issues with this card and CS5/CS5.5
    - Quadro 4000 - another expensive card that costs more and does not perform as well as GTX 500 series cards (i.e. GTX 560).
    - WD 1TB Enterprise drives in RAID 1 - again more $$$, and the wrong choice for RAID 1
Bottom line, if your are building this yourself, go back to your last system design and more it forwards. Or, if you are hooking up with a local integrator and this is what they are telling you, call up ADK on Monday and get their thoughts of how to configure a system that best meets your needs; they may be mail order from where you live, but your life will be much better with their "remote" support!

  • Mac vs. PC for Premiere Pro CC with a budget of...

    $3300.00  ... That's what I'm budgeting.
    Warning:
I know any post of Mac vs. PC can spark a lively debate and I sense much of this forum's base are PC users but hopefully I'll get some honest and sound advice/purchase options.
    Purpose:
I'm a current Mac user not wanting really to go back to PC but I'm about to make a purchase so I wanna be open to the idea if it's gonna make life better for me while editing. As crazy/stupid as it sounds...my fear of returning to the PC world is mostly because of my memory of the years of having to deal with the need for Virus Protection on a PC. I have bad memories from having to renew/pay for that every year and it slowing things down and ultimately my last PC was infected and crashed. But my editing is what I do 6 days a week on this computer for work. I used to be a FCP user so Macs made sense but now I'm all in on Premiere Pro CC so maybe a PC would be best...or maybe I should just stay with Mac. Who knows?! Bottom line: I use Premiere, Audition, Encore and Photoshop with 90% of it on Premiere (using basic cuts, cross dissolves, extensive use of Warp Stabilizer, and the occasional gaussian blur). I also use this computer to go online. That's about it. Mostly.
    Current State:
I have a 2011 iMac with a 27" screen. Love that size. It has 3.4 GHz i7, 16GB 1333 RAM, AMD 6970M 1GB VRAM GPU, 120GB SSD (OWC 6G) running the OS and apps, and I also have a Elite Pro Dual eSata HDD + Thunderbolt adapter (RAID 0) from MacSales.com that I currently use as my scratch drive.
    Option #1:
I was just about to purchase the newest iMac with most of the upgrades for what would be $3300. The upcoming 2013 Mac Pro looks nice and I love the idea of being able to upgrade as I go, but it doesn't come with a screen and I can't necessarily afford it when you add that in. Plus it doesn't come out for a couple months and honestly I have a great offer in right now on my iMac that I'm about to sell.
The iMac I was intending to get as soon as next week was:
2013 iMac with the 27" Screen
3.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel i7 ("Turboboost" up to 3.9 GHz)
    1TB "Fusion" Drive (Apple's 120 SSD + 1TB HDD mix)
32 GB of 1600 MHz RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M (4GB VRAM)
    4 USB 3.0 Ports
    2 Thunderbolt Ports
    PRICE: $3300 (about)
    Option #2:
A PC of some sort that's upgradable going forward and optimized for what I use it for primarily (see underlined and bold above). I truly have been out of the PC world sooo long and I know that each "side" has their advantages. I love Mac but I'm just wanting to get the best machine for Premiere for my budget. I've been a loyal mac user for years but I'm no fan boy (eg. I happily own a Galaxy S3 by choice)  I was excited to get the newest iMac released just a couple weeks ago but then tonight I saw this site (http://pcpartpicker.com/) and started thinking about my options.
I will be selling my 2011 iMac to help pay for the new one so I can't keep this one. That money has factored into my budget. It's been great but I feel like it drags and hangs with MPE enabled sometimes so I figured a newer computer would help.
Also...SSD. I have read great things from various posts about the Samsung 840 Pro SSD's so I may pick one or two up eventually to supplement or replace my current scratch drive.
I'd love someone to toss out if I should go option #1 or if there's a better Option #2 out there.
    Thanks!

    1. You don't need a separate audio card, audio is included on the motherboard.
    2. Do you need wifi on the motherboard? Then look at the P9X79 DeLuxe.
Re: #1) Done! No idea about that.
Re: #2) Again, no idea. You tell me, do I need wifi on the motherboard or not? And I don't see that DeLuxe option. I'm just picking things that sound nice outside of what you had for your "Low-End Warrior Setup". I'd honestly rather you tell me what works and what doesn't because again, I have almost no idea here.
Like I said before, I totally guessed on the type of RAM (brand? 1600 vs 1866? etc), the Case (all I knew was to get a Full Tower), the OS (8 vs 8.1 vs. 32bit vs 64bit), and the monitor (comparible to iMac's 27" monitor?) and other things like sound cards and wireless network adapters (of which I may not need apparently). Also, I switched the GPU to the GTX 770 because it's listed on Adobe's supported cards list. Not that the 760 wouldn't work but maybe this one "future proofs" it a bit more and plus most of the footage we handle is 60fps edited and exported at 24fps so according to that Tweaker's link above, a great GPU help. It does have 4GB VRAM instead of 2gb so I don't know what difference that makes but I figure its better. As for "brand" I took a wild guess and went with Gigabyte, not sure if that's good or not.  FYI: By comparison the iMac I'm debating has a GTX 780M GPU with 4GB VRAM. You tell me if this was smart. Still under budget.
So many questions remain. cc_merchant, feel free to lay out your wisdom and help me shape my purchase based on what you know. I like hearing things like "don't need that" or switch it out for "this one" instead. If it goes over $3300 by a touch (not too much), that's okay as long as it's gonna be THAT much better than the spec'd out 2013 iMac listed above.

  • New System Build For Premiere 5.5 Looking For Advice

Hi there, this is my first time on here and it looks like this is the best place for advice.
So I've been tasked to build a new computer for a client for Premiere 5.5. He's running a very basic studio setup and his main complaint is how it takes
such a long time to render video. He told me it takes him about 6 hours to render a 40 minute sequence to MPEG2 standard(this is what he mostly renders as). I did some playing around and it turns out that his current system is relatively good but it uses a HD 6990 as its GPU(which can't even take advantage of Premier's hardware rendering capability!)
Now initially I was going to go the all SSD route with a a budget of about $2500 or so. However, after doing some reading on here, I've decided that this
isn't necessarily the best way. So I will only run the OS of an SSD. Here is what I have so far:
    PROCESSOR:
    Intel Core i7-2600K Quad-Core Socket LGA1155, 3.40Ghz, 8MB L3 Cache
(I will overclock this as much as possilbe with the Noctua cooler)
    MOTHERBOARD:
Asus P8Z68-V Pro Socket 1155 Intel Z68 Chipset
    RAM:
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600MHz (PC3-12800) 16GB (4x4GB) Dual Channel Kit
    VIDEO CARD:
    EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD Superclocked 1280MB GDDR5 (012-P3-1573-AR) nVidia GeForce GTX 570Chipset(797MHz) 1280MB GDDR5 Memory(3900MHz)
    POWER SUPPLY:
OCZ ZX Series 1000W Fully Modular 80 Plus Gold Certified Power Supply (OCZ-ZX1000W)
    HARD DRIVES:
OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II 2.5" 120GB Solid State Drive (OPERATING SYSTEM DISK)
Western Digital VelociRaptor (WD3000HLFS) 300GB SATA II 10000RPM 16MB x2 (Project Disk Run in RAID 0)
Western Digital VelociRaptor (WD3000HLFS) 300GB SATA II 10000RPM 16MB x2 (Output Disk Run in RAID 0)
    CPU COOLER:
Noctua NH-D14 Six Heatpipe Dual Radiator CPU Cooler
    OPTICAL DRIVE:
    ASUS DRW-24B1ST Black SATA
Now if there are any suggestions, PLEASE let me know how I can improve this build. I really don't want to disappoint the guy, especially if he isn't going to get a great performance boost in terms of rendering time. Considering he can't use GPU acceleartion right now on his $600+ card, I would imagine this should be a better build.
Also, will there be a problem if I run four hard drives in RAID 0 mode using the motherboards onboard RAID capability?

    Photomaster,
I think you are on the right track to speed up this guys system (2600k w/ OC, dual RAID 0) and I second Harm's comment about large 7200 drives being better than the prev. generation VR 300GB drives (HLFS series).
Be aware however that "rendering" does mean different things, and if you are thinking that MPE will increase AME rendering to MPEG2-DVD by 10x you will be very disappointed! Here is the rest of the story...
Timeline rendering, as benchmarked in PPBM5, will indeed speed up on the order of 10x with the addition of MPE using the appropriate nVidia hardware. PPBM5 is a test carefully constructed test that represents how long it takes for Adobe Premiere Pro to prepare (render) a timeline for playback. In actual use, your results will vary. Some timelines may only be sped up by 2x (i.e. very complex and/or using non-MPE effects, filters, etc.) to more than 1,000,000x faster for the case where a non-MPE system requires rendering, whereas the MPE system can play back the timeline without ANY rendering (i.e. simple SD timelines with MPE compliant effects).
Next, full timeline rendering and "exporting" from a Premiere Pro timeline to MPEG2-DVD format are both sped up, but more on the order of 2x. On my fast quad-core system, I'm getting about a 1.8x improvement from MPE assistance using the PPBM5 project for testing.
Finally, using Adobe Media Encoder (AME), and I can only speak for CS5, the MPE hardware does not even come into play and does not speed things up at all. On a positive note, Harm has reported that AME ver. 5.5 ran just over 2x as fast as ver 5.0.3; possibly the newer version is in fact tapping the MPE hardware for this gain?

    Jim

  • What are the specs for iPod video

i wish to manually convert .mov (video with audio) to vPod format.
anyone know where there is a list of the specs required, movie size, format, audio format?
i'm trying to figure out the following:
i have two movies of like nature. i drop ,them both in iTunes. i tell iTunes to convert for iPod and it says one does not need conversion. i am trying to figure out why the other does. they are both 44.1/h.264.
what is the movie size spec and all the specs for QT to vPod conversion? (i want do to it manually.)
i think i have it, is this correct: 320x180 (16:9). i assume vPod can play both 48.hz audio and that that does not have to be converted to 44.1 (both aac)?

    QT Kirk is simply saying
you can make the file you dropped on the script in
order to make it uneditable editable once again by
loading the file in a hexidecimal editor utility and
"zeroing out" the code that makes it uneditable.
yes, i wanted to know which file to edit the script or the 'locked' movie --the .mov, thanks.
    .mov
    Format: AAC,Stereo (L R), 44.100kHz, H.264 Decoder,
    391 x 216, Millions
    FPS: 29.97
    Data Size: 58.25
    Data Rate: 536.90 kbits/sec
    Normal Size: 391 x 216 pixels
    Current Size: 391 x 216 pixels
    (Actual)
The information cited does not include information regarding
the H.264 profile used to create it. If created using the QT
"Movie to QuickTime Movie > H.264" export option,
then the file would not be iPod compatible since this
workflow employs the "Main" profile. In a similar
manner, if the file was created using the QT "Movie
to MPEG-4" Export option, it would have been created
using either the "Main" or "Baseline" profile.
However, based on your dimensions, iTunes expects the
file to be created using the "Baseline Low Compexity"
profile and proceeds to correct the situation.
how can you do that via QTP expert options? if you can. i create a lot of web movies and wish to 'feed 2 birds with one piece of bread'. (i like birds.
    if these are the only
conversion for iPod tools apple offers...
    why?
    QT Pro/iTunes currently
offers the use of two H.264 iPod compatible,
automatically adaptive workflows (Baseline LC and
Baseline) and QT Pro additionally offers one full
manual iPod compatible H.264 workflow (Baseline
profile) and one full manual MPEG-4 workflow. As to
why the QT "Movie to iPod" and iTunes workflows are
auto-adaptive, most users simply want to have iPod
compatible files when they want them and don't want
to learn how to make them properly with respect to
each compression format and/or profile requirement
and/or special case considerations (dimensions, data
rates, frame rates, key frame frequency, aspect
    ratio, macroblock efficiency considerations, etc).
yes, i wish to... well, i said that above, create web and ipod in 'one fell swoop'. i suppose these ipod auto-adaptive modes will work for web, but i'd rather use the expert options. i would like to "learn how to make them properly".
    > ok .m4v is h.264.
    Rather loosely stated. The
".m4v" extension refers to the file container while
H.264 refers to the actual video compression
algorithm. In this case the H.264 video format is
specifically stored in this file container. One the
other hand, the ".mp4" file container is a more
generic MPEG-4 file container commonly used for
either MPEG-4 or H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) video compressed
files. And, at the other end of the scale, the ".mov"
file container is the most generic since it can
basically contain any "supported" compression format
to include either MPEG-4/AAC or H.264/AAC iPod
compatible files. One key to remember here is that
file containers, like the compression formats that
they can contain, have specific "characteristics."
For instance, ".m4v" and ".mp4" file containers can
have one external piece of graphic "artwork"
associated with it (as seen in iTunes), but the
    ".mov" container cannot.
i did not know that .mp4 also served for h.264. the graphic container of .m4v i had sort of noticed, however i did not or had not for .mov, thanks.
Your file did not conform to
the required "Baseline LC" profile and so iTunes
converted it. Since the "LC" profile defaults to a
video data rate on the order of 1500 Kbps, your file
size was nearly doubled for the specific duration of
    your clip.
i'm not sure i understand why my data rate was converted where a lesser data rate was not. (536 vs. 262)
thanks very much for this 'training'.

  • Intel Quad Core for Premiere - is this a smart choice ?

    Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if Intel's new Quad Core processor ( 2.4 Ghz ) will give a good boost to system performance over an older Intel 3.2 Ghz Ht chip.
I have seen test results where a 1.6 ghz dual core Intel processor has lost in speed tests vs regular 3.2 ghz chips ( not dual core )
So I'm puzzled,, will a Quad Core chip have any advantage when running Premiere ?
I'm hoping there is a clear cut answer here, and I look forward to any responses.
    Thank you,
    Dave.

    Guys...
Before you all go out and throw a party...
My understanding is that with regards to CS3:
    1. 32bit XP normally supports up to 2gigs of ram. 4gigs if you modify a line in the bootstrap file. But 4gigs is divided into 3gigs for apps and 1gig for system stuff.
    2. 64bit XP is not supported.
    3. 64bit Vista is not supported yet.
    Here's the specs from Adobe:
    - Intel® Pentium® 4 (1.4GHz processor for DV; 3.4GHz processor for HDV), Intel Centrino®, Intel Xeon® (dual 2.8GHz processors for HD), or Intel Core Duo (or compatible) processor; SSE2-enabled processor required for AMD systems
    - Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional or Home Edition with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise (certified for 32-bit editions)
    - 1GB of RAM for DV; 2GB of RAM for HDV and HD; more RAM recommended when running multiple components
Here's the memory specs for xp from Microsoft:
Operating systems based on Microsoft Windows NT technologies have always provided applications with a flat 32-bit virtual address space that describes 4 gigabytes (GB) of virtual memory. The address space is usually split so that 2 GB of address space is directly accessible to the application and the other 2 GB is only accessible to the Windows executive software.
The 32-bit versions of the Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition, operating systems were the first versions of Windows to provide applications with a 3-GB flat virtual address space, with the kernel and executive components using only 1 GB. In response to customer requests, Microsoft has expanded the availability of this support to the 32-bit version of Windows XP Professional and all 32-bit versions of Windows Server 2003.
Windows 2000 Memory Support. With Windows 2000 Professional and Server, the maximum amount of memory that can be supported is 4 GB (identical to Windows NT 4.0, as described later in this section). However, Windows 2000 Advanced Server supports 8 GB of physical RAM and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server supports 32 GB of physical RAM using the PAE feature of the IA-32 processor family, beginning with Intel Pentium Pro and later.
Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 Memory Support. The maximum amount of memory that can be supported on Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 is also 4 GB. However, Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition supports 32 GB of physical RAM and Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition supports 64 GB of physical RAM using the PAE feature.
The virtual address space of processes and applications is still limited to 2 GB unless the /3GB switch is used in the Boot.ini file. When the physical RAM in the system exceeds 16 GB and the /3GB switch is used, the operating system will ignore the additional RAM until the /3GB switch is removed. This is because of the increased size of the kernel required to support more Page Table Entries. The assumption is made that the administrator would rather not lose the /3GB functionality silently and automatically; therefore, this requires the administrator to explicitly change this setting.
The /3GB switch allocates 3 GB of virtual address space to an application that uses IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE in the process header. This switch allows applications to address 1 GB of additional virtual address space above 2 GB.
The virtual address space of processes and applications is still limited to 2 GB, unless the /3GB switch is used in the Boot.ini file. The following example shows how to add the /3GB parameter in the Boot.ini file to enable application memory tuning:
However, knock yourselves out on getting the biggest baddest processors out there.

  • Computer specs for nice 3D rendering/ after effects rendering and video rendering in general ?

Hi there! I would like to know what the perfect specs for a laptop/workstation/computer are, so that I could do my creative work from home..my old laptop (Macbook Pro, 8Gb Ram, V 2010) is not good enough for 3D rendering, not even Video rendering or After Effects... I need to know what graphics card for eg or how much Ram or what I need to look for in a computer so that I won't get any error messages after rendering for half a day anymore...;) (--> very annoying) Money is not a first priority...i would first like to know, what the best option would be that one could have and then down size from there;)
I would appreciate every help:) my laptop is dying...i need something new and better;)
    cheers stephs

Regardless of workflow, you want a workstation, not a laptop. You will get much more bang for your buck.
Also, as others have said, Windows machines tend to be better choices than Macs right now. And that's coming from two people who used to use/love Macs...
In general, you want the fastest clock speed on your processor that you can afford. You want as many cores as you can get with that nice, high clock speed.
Ideally, you want 4GB of RAM per core of your processor - MINIMUM 16 GB of RAM, (but get as much as you can afford).
You want an SSD for your cache and a good-sized regular hard drive to hold footage, renders, etc.
GPU matters for Premiere and any third-party plugins that use it (like Red Giant Universe, Element 3d, Mettle's ShapeShifter, etc.), but not for AE and not for Cinema 4D (which comes free with AE these days).
Again, this is just some generalization. For more specific info, we'll need to know more about what you're doing.
Also, you don't need to take our word for any of this; read what Adobe has to say on the matter: FAQ: What computer and components should I buy?

  • SPECS for z-reports

    hi
can anyone provide me with realtime specs for z reports.
like the requirement of the client related to SD module.
I possible giv me the code also.
and one more thing. where do we run the report after created.
    kindly help
    regs
    sridhar

    Dear Sridhar,
<b>and one more thing. where do we run the report after created.</b>
You would assign a TCode for the report and possibly add it in the user menu. Hence, you can run the report either with transction code or from user menu.
<b>can anyone provide me with realtime specs for z reports.</b>
Functional specification: The Functional Specification is a comprehensive document created after the Software Requirements Document. It provides more details on selected items originally described in the Software Requirements Template. Elsewhre organizations combine these two documents into a single document.
Functional specs is like a templeate document, hence it will be same whether it is AR or AP or CCA. Basically functional specs is a document which explains the requirements with technical details, so that technical consultant or any other person can read and understand what is the background of the report or an extension done in SAP.
The Functional Specification describes the features of the desired functinality. It describes the product's features as seen by the stake holders, and contains the technical information and the data needed for the design and developement.
The functional specs should have the following details:
Background: Information why this report is required and Business process involved in that.
Selection Parameters: This should what fields should be selection fields, which are optional and which are mandatory etc.
Layout of the report: What information is required in the output of the report. This should also indicate the technical names - Table and field names from where the data needs to be fetched.
Detailed Description: This should explain the logic of the report - what calculations needs to be done etc.
The Functional Specification defines what the functionality will be of a particulat area that is to be precise a transaction in SAP terminology.
It also contains the data regarding change history, if any.
Functional Spec is mainly prepared for the purpose of developing the new reports (this happens only when SAP standard report not achieve the client purpose) using the ABAP Program. for ABAPers you need to give the details of the Tables , Fields and the logic how to pick the value and get the report.

  • Anyone written functional specs for reports?

Please explain how to write functional specs for reports in sales? How is it done? I need to be able to speak clearly in the interview so help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi Haken,
Basically functional spec contains the functionality to be implemented.
    http://www.saptechies.com/what-are-functional-specifications/
Suppose you need to write a spec for Treausry report.
Then you will write the following things( this is only for your understanding)
Treasury Report u2013 Receipts & Payments.
    1.Business Requirement Study:
The Treasury Department of the Corporate Finance Division needs various information for reporting and planning. The proposed requirement would provide information in the form of movements in a number of selected GL Codes involving Customer and Vendor Reconciliation Accounts and Inter-Bank transactions.
    1.1
    Enhancement Title:Treasury Report u2013 Receipts & Payments
    Enhancement Type: Report
    Enhancement Number: 1245m
    SAP Application Module:FI
    Priority (H, M, L):     M     Related Documents:
    1.2
    End User Name(s): XYZ
    Business Process Advisor:     YZX
    Functional Designer: Vivek Baddula
    1.3 Risk Assessment
This section will address the risk of pursuing the system development. Any unknowns such as new technology and critical dependencies should be discussed in this section.
    1.4  Alternatives
If there are more than one alternative to handle the business requirement, this section should list such alternatives and the issues that may arise from implementing them. Nevertheless, the optimum alternative discussed in the design overview will be used
    1.5Estimated Budget in Man-Hours
    STAGE     MAN-HOURS
    Design     0.00
    Build     0.00
    Test/Release     0.00
    TOTAL     0.00
    2.Selection screen fields.
    BUKRS           Company Code       parameter         Mandatory
GJAHR            Fiscal Year            select options   Mandatory
    BELNR            Document Number select options
    SHKZG            Debit/Credit ind       parameter
    DMBTR            Amt.in loc.cur.        parameter
    3.Retrieval Logic:
Put the selection parameters in table u2018BSEGu2019 and retrieve the following details.
    BUKRS                             Company Code
    GJAHR                             Fiscal Year
    BELNR                             Document Number
    SHKZG                             Debit/Credit ind
    DMBTR                             Amt.in loc.cur.
    WRBTR                            Amount
    PSWSL                             General ledger currency
    HKONT                             G/L Account
3.1.     Total DMBTR of all BELNR by group and by SHKZG as H and show under the Debit Column of respective groups (Customer/Vendor/Inter-Bank).
3.2.     Total DMBTR of all BELNR by group and by SHKZG as S and show under the Credit Column of respective groups (Customer/Vendor/Inter-Bank).
3.4.     Similarly consider only those documents which have a PSWSL ne INR and show them under different group and SHKZG.
    4..     Output Display::
Here we mention the format of the output and the fields need to be displayed.
This is just a sample prototype ...
    Hope this will help you...
    Regards,

OK - we've decided to get the new PC now, focused around decent performance for video editing at home when we do it.   Any feedback on the below would be greatly appreciated.  I've tried to put in my "principles", but as you note I've highlighted some questions around these.
    Principles
    * Decent computer for Home Video Editing - so when we do it want it to be reasonable from a performance point of view (not annoying).  Also want assurance for the video data that a single HDD crash won't mean lost data.
    * Hard Drive Configuration - Assume RAID 1 for data
    C: 500GB - Operating System (1 x 500GB)
    D: 500GB - Swap Area for O/S (1 x 500GB)
    E: RAID 1 Redundancy for Data ( 2 x 1TB )
    * 64 bit Windows 7 Pro
    * Questions re Principles
Is it really worth having a separate drive (D: drive) for Swap?
Is there any real need to have a drive F: (another one) for exports?  This is non-real time so it shouldn't be an issue should it?
Any major improvement re moving say the C: drive to SSD? (or not worth the $$)
SATA II versus SATA III drives? (I've assumed both are ok when picking)
    The Spec
    CPU - Intel Core i7 960 Processor LGA1366 3.2GHz 8MB Cache CPU
    Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R X58+ICH10R QPI 6.4GT/s DDR3 2000 PCI-Ex16 SATAII SATA3 USB3.0 RAID GLAN ATX
    RAM - Kingston 12GB(3X4G) KIT 1333MHz(PC3-10600)
    Video Card - NVIDIA GTX560 - Gigabyte GTX560 OC 1G GDDR5 PCIE DualLink DVI  [?? matches motherboard / is this overkill ??]
    RAID Card - Adaptec AAR1220SA-SGL SATAII RAID0 1 JBOD/2 PORT/Low Profile/PCIEx1/OEM/No Cables [?? is this ok - seems cheap ??]
    HDD (non-RAID) - 2 x Western Digital 500G RE4 SATAII 7200rpm HDD 64MB Enterprise [?? only SATAII this is ok no??]
Case - CoolerMaster RC-942-KKN1 HAF X 942 Black No PSU [?? is this overkill - just took someone recommendation here ??]
Power Supply - Corsair HX-850 ATX Power Supply w 140mm Modular Cables [?? power ok?  again just took a recommendation ??]
    O/S - 64bit - Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit OEM(Microsoft OEM Terms&condition apply)

Greg (correct me if that's not correct!),
You're spec. looks like a great start for what you are trying to do. I have a few comments, and also two questions!
    Comments:
    - Spec. generally looks fine
    - I particularly like your case and p/s choices!
    - For a home PC, you may consider bumping up your OS choice to Ultimate, which adds some nice multimedia capabilities
    - Regarding the D drive for swap (and I assume you mean Premiere Pro media cache and media cache database too) will definitely speed up aspects of Premiere Pro, but likely be unnoticeable for other home PC day to day use. Why not build out the system and decide then if you need the extra speed for Premiere Pro - it is so easy to add something like that later.
    - I'd vote no regarding a need for a F output drive for this system
    - Regarding your OS drive... Speed and responsiveness versus cost - what do you choose? This really is a personal choice. I will say that a 2x1TB RAID 0 OS boot array would probably be a bigger step up in performance than a similar priced SSD option and a 2xSSD (60 to 80GB) array will perform better than a single larger SSD.
    - Sata II vs Sata III - I have some of each now, and I would agree with other posters and articles on the Internet that say the often larger cache size on the Sata III models is more important than the Sata III interface. Keep going like you are going, with the assumption that both are OK.
    - finally, your CPU; personnaly, with the new lower cost pricing on the i7-970, I'd suggest you downgrade to a i7-950 and same some money or upgrade to the 32nm 6-core i7-970 CPU and jump to a significantly new level of performance and power per watt
    Questions:
    - what version of Premier Pro will you be running?
    - what will be your workflow (i.e. DV, Sony consumer AVCHD, Canon DSLR, etc.)?
    Cheers,
    Jim
