Basic phone with sliding QWERTY keyboard

I am looking for Basic phone with sliding QWERTY keyboard, that will text and send pictures without a data plan.
I am now on disability and can't continue with the high cost of data plans.
I was using my Droid 4 but without Data turned on it will text but will not send pictures.
My daughter is sending me an LG-505c so I am hoping that will work but I would still like to get my calender on the phone also.
anyway I need ideas on what phones will work.

The LG ENV3 will work without a data plan, as will several of the older "multimedia" phones and basic phones.  My husband is still using an LG VX 5400; my mom uses an LG VX 5200 and both send and receive picture messages (though they are small).  Samsung Sway, Alias, LG Voyager, EnvTouch - all of these work without a data plan, and will send and receive texts.

  • I cannot change language with my qwerty keyboard

    I'm using firefox for mobile 5 on LG LU2300(optimus Q) which has physical qwerty keyboard.
    When I try to change language to Korean with the qwerty keyboard, I failed. The language is stick to ENGLISH.
    When I use on screen touch keyboard, it's O.K.
    please help me to use firefox.

    Hi freetbet,
    This is currently a known problem and we have an open bug report tracking this issue, [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=669361 bug 669361]. At this time I am not aware of any workaround besides continuing to use the virtual keyboard as you mentioned.

  • Is there a basic phone with wifi?

    Is there a basic phone with wifi capability? Looking for a phone for my 12 year old, he doesn't need a $30 or $40 month data plan.

    My yes.  Many young ones have them because their parents won't get them smart phones and a lot of my older friends have them.  Much smaller than carrying a tablet around.  Only other option is there is a carrier that does not require data on their smart phones so you can have talk and text for $35 a month and just use the wifi but you have to pay the retail for the phone is the bad part.  Mary

  • Replace basic phone with No-Contract $399 Moto X, and have only WiFi data?

    The family is on a Shared Talk and Text, 700 minutes, four basic phones and I have a Droid Razr + 30/month data plan, could I replace one or more of the basic phones with a no-contract Moto X and keep the plan? And let the kids hit the WiFi, but not have to pay for when they away from the house? Seems too good to be true.
    Sorry for this being my first post, I sure hope I can book mark this so I can come back to it. Maybe the word zygote might help me find it later

    It would be a replacement, not a new telephone number, if that makes things clearer. All the same, you are saying Verizon will insist on data, even though no-contract?

  • Key mapping question. (for mobile phones with PC-like keyboard)

    For phones with mini keyboard (one button per one character, like a PC keyboard).
    I'm trying to implement a form with few text boxes. The goal is to let user type the message like they're using a PC keyboard (unlike in traditional phones, where you need to press the 'numpad two' button three times in order to type the character 'C')
    I've successfully implemented this functionality. But it's an ugly implementation because I use a switch-cases for each and EVERY keycodes.
    Forexample:
    char inputChar;
    switch(keyCode)
    case 97: input = 'A' break;
    case 98: input = 'B' break;
    // go on until every keys are covered, including the lower case letters. T_T
    buffer.append(inputChar);
    Yes I know that my programming skill is real crap >_<, so I try google for some good implementation method. But I always found only the detail about the traditional numpad implementations.
    Ok, my real question is, can this keyboard implementation be done in a better way? The code should be able to look more beautiful than this, right?
    Thank you. =)

    I still don't get the problem here?
    A textbox in a form will work just fine with those mini keyboards. You don't need to do anything for it..
    Otherwise, this code can obviously be done better, a simple array where you just lookup your keycode will be much simpler and faster for instance.

  • Can I sync a basic phone with my MacBook?

    I have a basic phone I would like to sync with my MacBook Pro address book. Is this possible?

    Ok, thanks for that.  Looking to sync a Verizon prepaid phone or a GoPhone. Just need contacts off it.
    Wondering, then, could I just sync from Mac Address book to MobileMe easily? When I've done it before with my iPhone, it got screwy, duplicating contacts in the phone.
    (this is for my ex, who dropped her iPhone in the water, it was fried, and I don't want to get her a new iPhone until the 5 comes out and other models drop in price).

  • Pathetic lack of 4G phones with no physical keyboard

    I've been a Verizon customer since my first mobile phone and I was one of the first people to buy the original Droid when it launched, but the leaked news about the upcoming Droid 3 has me strongly leaning towards going with another carrier.  I find it baffling that the Droid 3 would come out right now and not be 4G enabled.  It hasn't even been released and it's already outdated, and yet Verizon will insist on sticking people with 2 year contracts for a phone that will never be able to connect to its fastest networks.  I've yet to hear of any other 4G phone that even MIGHT come to Verizon with a physical keyboard, an absolute 100% dealbreaker for me.  The loyal early adopters who jumped on the Android bandwagon and made it the juggernaut it is today come out of contract in July.  We want physical keyboards and we want cutting edge phones.  Where is the phone you think we're going to buy, Verizon?  Because everything else I've seen is a joke.

    This has been a significant frustration for me as well.  I follow phones pretty closely and have kept up on all the rumors, leaks, and announcements on the various forums from BGR to droidforums and howardforums.  What is killing me is that there is not so much as an obfuscated indication that Verizon will have a 4g with a physical keyboard any time in the future.
    They are rolling out more and more candybar phones and there are, essentially, zero options for anyone who does not like the candybar models with only virtual keyboards.  Meanwhile, the other 4g carriers all have phones out with physical keyboards.  Sprint actually has at least 2 of their 4g phones with physical keyboards and have had them out for months now.  Seriously, how hard is it for Verizon to get it together and diversify their offerings with something other than yet another candybar 4g phone?
    The real kicker is Verizon put out the Droid 3 without 4g.  Seriously.  What are you guys thinking?  4g covers a huge part of the market and your only new Android phone with physical keyboard is only 3g?  Was this an attempt at marketing suicide?
    Those who say you don't really need a physical keyboard must not use the phone the same way many of us in professional environments with detailed and quick response demands migth use them.  I have tried numerous virtual keyboards and none of them are responsive and fast enough to keep up with me.  One my Droid 1, I can hammer out significantly detailed and thorough responses very quickly with little to no error.  This is why so many BB users demand the physical keyboard of the BB.  If the virtual keyboards were good enough, trust me, we would have switched long ago for the weight and size differences.  The simple fact is no virtual keyboard is on par with a decent physical keyboard.
    My contract is up in a few months, I am well into my upgrade period, and I am seriously considering switching to another carrier for 4g with a physical keyboard.  I am not blowing my upgrade on a phone that will irritate the hell out of me, especially when it would mean locking into another 2-year contract with a carrier who clearly is not developing devices for professional users who prefer Android.

  • We have basic phone with Prepaid Core and over $200 balance.  If we upgrade to a smartphone with monthly bill, will the balance be transferred and applied?

    We have a basic Verizon cell phone with a Prepaid Core Plan which has over $200 balance in account.  We usually purchase $100 for minutes once a year for our phone (on limited income).  If we upgrade to a Smart Phone, it looks like we will have to pay $45 a month.  Will the balance in our prepaid account be applied to the new Smart Phone and pay the monthly charge for as long as there is a balance in the account?  Thanks.

        Paul_Diane,
    We're excitd that you're considering a post paid account. I'll be happy to provide more information about the credit balance that you have. Once you move the account from prepaid to post paid the balance can't be moved to the post paid account. It will be refunded back to you.

  • Re-boot Blackberry Phone With No Physical Keyboard

    With the standard keyboard version of BB phone simply pressing Alt+RightShift+Del all at the same time will force the phone to do a re-boot.  Back in the days of PC-DOS pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del accomplished the re-boot.
    With the new BB10 touch screen phone, I would be curious to know how the re-boot can be manually done...???

  • A basic phone with no internet access.

    I need a phone for my son with no internet access whatsoever.  I have him set up on a plan that allows me to block data but if he has access to wifi he can still access the internet.  I am talking about non smartphones.  I am frustrated and disappointed that AT&T (or anyone else) does not offer a phone that is not wifi enabled.  Even a $9.99 tracfone gives web access!

    Thanks to both of you for your replies.  My son only needs a phone when he travels which is about 10 days out of the year so gophone is definitely the way to go.  I just found that you have to be very careful with the phone that you use.  Most phones today - even the $10-$15 flip phones - allow WiFi access.  You can block paid data use on the phone but if a phone allows for WiFi connectivity there is no way to block that access in public places where WiFi is free (i.e. airports).  I had to go with an older (used) phone to find one that did not have WiFi connectivity.  We had an old Pantech Laser laying around that worked. Then I had to have AT&T block the data to the phone.  FYI for gophones they cannot block this in the store you have to call in and do it over the phone.  This was not explained to me and so the first trip with the phone my son was accessing data.  I gave AT&T an earful as I had carefully explained I needed data blocked and was told it was done.  They credited me the data charges. I am not sure if the AT&T Z222 has WiFi capability or not.  In the specs it says it does but the salespeople at the AT&T store says it does not.  I had originally tried a $9.99 Tracfone from Walmart and was told that it did not have data access.  That information was incorrect.

  • [BB Q10] We missed the shortcut key on BBOS with physical qwerty keyboard!

    Dear Development Team,
    On behalf of a lot of BBer in Vietnam and all over the world, I'd like to ask you to bring the home screen shortcuts features from BBOS to BB10.
    Especially for Blackberry Q10, the more using Q10, the more we miss the shortcuts on BBOS, should we come back to BB which loaded by BBOS???
    I missed the key A,K: to lock the keyboard, screen.
    I missed the key P, C: to enter to phone or contact.
    I missed the key U: to start calculator.
    I missed the key L: to go to calendar.
    I missed the key D, T: to make a memo and task.
    I missed the key N: go to BBM
    And I missed more and more them all while using Q10. Why don't you just bring it back on BB10?
    Once again, We strongly, absolutely, definitely suggest you to bring it back on BB10 before we change our mind.
    Thank for listening.
    Love you.

    yes. I really miss homescreen shorcuts. It's the most reason why i chose blackberry for myself. Please bring it come to us.. thank you

  • I recommend that Apple develop an iPhone with a qwerty keyboard .They would gain a major market share.

    A physical keyboard on an iPhone would overtake a huge marketshare.

    I recommend you read the Terms of Use: https://discussions.apple.com/___sbsstatic___/apple/tutorial/tou.html

  • Clamshell style phone with QWERTY keyboard?

    Does Verizon Wireless have any plans to once again sell a basic clamshell-style phone with a QWERTY keyboard?  My aging Samsung Alias 2 fits this description, but it is getting old.  I can find phones with QWERTY keyboards but they are "candybar" style, which I do not like.

        Steve_in_Maryland, thanks for posting. I can understand you anticipation for a new clamshell device. For the latest releases stay up to date right here: http://bit.ly/n5snpq .

  • Verizon won't let us activate a new basic phone. Just filed FCC complaint

    My mom has had this Verizon plan for nearly 10 years. It's not a bargain by any means. It's $12 a month plus $0.25 a minute. Kind of a rip-off. But she likes the plan. Anyway, she recently added a $10 texting plan and talked to one of the sales managers at the store about getting a new phone (texting with a flip phone isn't practical.) He said she couldn't get a new phone with a QWERTY keyboard because she still has a year left on her contract, but recommended she get a phone elswhere, or buy one. She asked multiple times if Verizon would be able to activate the phone, and the salesman said yes multiple times. So she bought a new texting phone, an EnV3.
    She called up Verizon to activate it, and they told her that the plan is no longer valid and any device switch would involve changing plans to a more expensive version. Keep in mind she's under contract after she got a new flip phone last year. What should I do? The store couldn't activate the phone either. I'll try online but not sure if it will work. I filed an FCC complaint though so maybe that will help. Otherwise, I'm getting my mom off Verizon once the contract is up. AT&T is good in our area, and even T-Mobile is. At least you get what you pay for with them.

        kgor93,
    After ten years of loyalty, we want to see your mom here for another ten strong. Pending which plan she is on, a Verizon Wireless device like an EnV3 may require current pricing plans in order to make the switch. Do you happen to know the exact name of the plan she's currently on as well as the offerings? Also, which device does she currently use? We're going to do everything we can to express options to make sure she gets some proper help so she can stay on board.

  • Want to change my phone with another one

    I have an LG basic phone with slide out keyboard for texting (no data/web).  It powers off and is getting annoying. my son has several old smart phones that work fine (just keeps upgrading).
    Can I simply pull the chip/card from mine and put into one of his smart phones and use it?  Will that work? I don't want data/web.
    Thanks,
    Regis

    Verizon basic phones don't have SIM cards, just 4G LTE smartphones.  If you were to activate one of your son's old smartphones, you'll have to also pay for a data plan since they are required to activate a smartphone.  If you aren't eligible for an upgrade or don't see a basic phone you like on Verizon's web site, you could buy one from ebay or somewhere else.  Just ensure that it's Verizon branded and has a clean ESN.
