Basic Portal Server 6.0 install questions

Background:
I am currently running iPlanet Portal Server 3.0 SP4. The gateway and portal server are running on the same host. I am also using a seperate Sun One Directory Server 5.1 for portal authentication.
I am going to wipe out the current portal server and install the Sun One Portal Server 6.0. The new gateway will be installed on a seperate host. We are going to keep our existing Directory Server 5.1.
Here are my questions:
1) I don't know where to put the Netlet Proxy and Rewriter Proxy. I can put it on the gateway host or the portal host. Both boxes are comparable in horsepower but the portal host has four times the disk space. Don't know which config is more efficient.
2) I don't understand what the iDS/AME piece is or where it goes. Is this something that gets installed on the existing Directory Server host? Or does it get installed on the Portal host?
3) The install docs say that you need to install patch 113177-01 on your directory server if the install was not done using the Portal Server install procedure. We are using an existing Sun One Dir Server 5.1 so I tried to install the patch and it says I don't have the required packages installed. It looks like it's missing SUNWamds. What is this package?

if you store all parts in the same directory and do not rename them then the .exe with extract the files from all 3 packages at the beginning automatically and then start the installation.

Portal server question, pls help!

Hello,
I have Portal server 5.04 installed in my local PC. It works well until I modified LoginActions.xml file. After I changed LoginActions.xml, I could not login to portal any more and got "The server has experienced an error. Try again, or contact your portal administrator if you continue experiencing problems" error. Then I changed LoginActions.xml file back to original one. However, I still could not login and got the same error.
I am wondering if there is cache in the server and how can I restart Portal server and kill the cache? I rebooted IIS server, but it didn't help.

Can't access Portal Server

Hi,
After installation of JSE(Windows Version),
I can access the identity admin console with url
http://host:port/amconsole
But I can't use the url
http://host:port/portal or
http://host:port/portal/dt
to access Portal Server Desktop, the browser
receive an 500 Internal Error Message.

So, you got Java SE installed. Great. (I've been following your other thread re: installing IS and PS properly).It's not exactly right. I try to use Windows 2000 to install JES and with the same DNS configuration.
It works. But I still can't install IS/PS correctly in the original machine(Win XP).
Check the troubleshooting info in the Java SE Install Guide, I believethis error is covered in there. Be sure you use a new instance of your browser to access the PS desktop. And, be sure to check the supported browser list in the Release Notes.
I go through the overall Install Guide, it's really that I can't find and answer to solve my problem :'(

Basic install question for Flex on CF 7.02

I've been trying to get Flex working on CF 7.02 and I'm
reading very different and conflicting stories.
Firstly I have CF 7 running on 2003, and then installed the
updates for7.01 and then 7.02 .
I installed as a single server instance.

What is most annoying is that I had it working on a local
server and it was fine. But this was installed over a year ago, and

I have also read that FDS express can be downloaded and run
on a Java server, and that it doesn't need cF, but this in not the
solution to my problem..
To summerize:-
I need to get Flex apps running on CF 7.02 in a production
environment.
Do i need do install anymore than CF, if so how much does it
cost?
I'm not a CF programmer, and don't know much about it, I
usually deal with MS stuff

I just want to verify this new community is set-up correctly; I have two accounts for the Oracle site, this one (linked to my gmail email) and another linked to my work email (I can log support cases with the latter).
I'm not able to hit that community from this account (linked to my gmail email), the error I get is;

Your privileges are not up to date. This should be resolved by logging in into My Oracle Support. Internal error in the login process.
The bit about the support identifier in the error message led me to try my work account - with some trouble I was able to get in and post the question above.
Is this new community only open to people with a support identifier?

MFA Server - User portal and mobile app web server should be installed where?

Hi. We are in the process of testing the Multi-Factor Auth server and are currently using it for two-factor authentication to RDS for a couple of users. At the moment we are only using the phone call/text options but I'd like to get the mobile app portion
working to test. Also still need to implement the user self-service portal for testing.
Currently I have a vm that was dedicated to MFA where the Multi-Factor Authentication Server software was installed. Now though I'm a bit confused as to if its safe to install the user portal and mobile app web service portion on this same machine
or if they should go on a different server(s)? Currently the box is internal but I'm guessing if it has also act as the web server we would stick it behind the TMG for external inbound access. Is external access to the primary MFA server ok?
What's the best practice for separation of the MFA roles; or is there none and its fine to just put it altogether?

You have a dedicated MFA server and if you install User Portal on the same server as the MFA Server, it uses RPC to communicate with the MultiFactorAuth service locally.
If the User Portal is installed on a different server, it must connect via the Web Service SDK. You can use either a username/password of a service account that is a member of the PhoneFactor
Admins security group, or you can configure client certificates. If using the username/password, you can encrypt the appSettings section of the web.config file if desired.
Under Inetpub\wwwroot\MultiFactorAuth when you edit the web.config file you need to make sure these values are set.

Tiger and a Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server MySite Question

Hello all-
We're running Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server 2003, and we just got an iMac running OS X Tiger (10.4.6) for our graphic artist.
Using Firefox, I can get to our intranet (intranet.comapny.com) just
fine, and the user can get to her My Site and open docs, upload files, etc.
What I need to do is set up an alias to her Private Documents folder
and her Team Site's document folders.
If I go to Go> Connect to server and type in
http://intranet.company.com/mysite I can see the following folders:
_catalogs
_private
_themes
images
Lists
and the Default.aspx file.
There's no Private Documents folder visible like there is on all my
Windows boxes for the same shortcut.
The list of folders should look like this (items in bold are missing):
_private
images
Lists
My Pages
My Pictures
Private Documents
Shared Documents
default.aspx
Basic authentication is turned on for the intranet portal, and I'm able
to authenticate to AD from the iMac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Installing Portal server on Solaris 10

hi,
I am installing portal server on a zone in Solaris 10 machine.Access Manager could be installed success fully . But now I am trying to install portal server. but it is showing installtion failed and configuratioin failed.
Are there any special steps to be followed fro installation of Portal server on a different zone.
The only product I have installed is the AM.

Hi,
I ran into trouble because the installer "forgot" to install SUNWldapcsdk-tools, but later tried to use /opt/SUNWdsee/dsee6/bin/ldapsearch, which wasn't installed (and the error I got was just that installation and configuration failed).
You could either run the installer twice, first time just install the Directory Server, then manually install SUNWldapcsdk-tools (it is in Product/shared_components/Solaris_10/Packages directory), then run the installer again and install the other modules. Or you could get the Directory Server as a separate download, install that first (it is supposed to install everything you need, but I haven't tried it) and then run the installer for AM and the portal.

Process.conf file not found after installing Sun One Portal Server 6.0

This extract is from the Sun One Portal Server development guide for logging error or logs in log file. This says that to generate the log, entry should be done to enable logging in process.conf file. I could not find any such file after installing Sun One Portal Server 6.0.
Any help will be appreciated...
Reporting Errors to the Robot Log File
When problems occur, robot application functions should return an appropriate response status code (such as REQ_ABORTED), and they should also log an error inthe error log file.
To use the error-logging functionality, you must include the file log.h in thesdk/robot/include/libcs directory. After you have ensured that log.h exists in the correct place, you can use the cslog_error macro to report errors. The prototype is in the following format:
cslog_error(int n, int loglevel, char* errorMessage)
The first parameter is not currently used (may be used in the future) You can pass
this as any integer.
The second parameter is the log level. When the log level is less than or equal to the log level setting in the file process.conf, the error message is written in the robot.log.

Since removing the log settings from magnus.conf failed to fix the problem, the log settings are probably not the source of the problem.
Did anything else - e.g. ColdFusion configuration changes - occur at about the same time you changed the log settings?

Could not start the portal server after installing Portal Source Code

Hi all, I try to install the portal source code and compile portal source code on the development computer. It does not work. I use Visual Studio 2002. Now I can not start the portal server. I got the error. I delete source code from webapp\portal folder. I still get the following error.

Installing Portal Server 7.1 on Windows XP

I installed Portal Server 7.1 for Windows, via the Sun Java Application Platform Suite Installer. The installer was super clean and very easy--practically idiot-proof. It is substantially easier to install than the SPARC version.
However, during installation and configuration--done via the GUI--the Portal Server configuration failed. After performing all the necessary post-intallation tasks, I discovered that CACAO will not start. When I attempt to start CACAO, I get the following:
"Cannot start an unconfigured instance. "
--(This is a doc defect. The doc should tell me to configure before starting)
After attempting to configure, by following the instructions, I get the following error:
"Error handling error: 1722, LookupAccountName at <cacao-base>\cacao_2\\configure.pl line 120."
Is this a bug or is this yet another documentation defect? Anyone experience this during a Windows installation?

I'm also trying to install Portal Server 7.1 and configure the same , getting the same error
---------------- "Cannot start an unconfigured instance."
I went to the cacao log location "C:\Program Files\Sun\JavaES5\share\cacao_2\var\cacao\instances\default\logs" to find out the errors but could not find any log files there.
But when i went to the AM log location "C:\Program Files\Sun\JavaES5\identity\debug" . I found three files namely,

Light weight custom portal server install to run webcenter blogs

Hi,
We are running PS6 UCM, we just leverage blog service provided by webcenter for blog functionality to be implemented.
Is there lighter version of webcenter custom portal server, that we could you just to run blog service and associated (document service) components.
Any pointers in this direction would be helpful.

I don't know which license do you have for WebCenter (Portal, Content etc...).
In case of having a WebCenter Portal license (for document services components) Install WebCenter (extended for WCPortal Framework Applications) and just enable the Services or components that you are going to use (like CustomPortal and UCM servers only).

Installing Portal server, does it include App server?

I hope that you can give me a pointer on this one.
I want to use Portal server to develop portlets for .
when i will install it, would it automatically install Sun Application server with it or do i have to do it seperately.
I understand there is a Identity Server that must exist.
Will it be installed too or should i do it manually and then somehow show where app server/identity servers are?
If so , how can i show portal server where App Server is.

Hi Serge,
Just run the JES installer and select to install the portal server, the installer will automatically select the pre-requisites. When doing a sandbox installation, just install all components on one server:
- application server
- portal server
- access manager
- directory server
Be sure to read the release notes and the JES installation guide.
