Basic question on Master data reporting on ODS

Hello All,
Recently I had a requirement, where they need to see the master data report ( with its attributes and attributes of attributes (transitive attribute)). Hence I loaded the master data on a ODS, to turn on the Navigational attributes.........
For e.g.: Requirement:
Master data : 0EQUIPMENT
ATTRIBUTE: 0SHIP_TO
ATTRIBUTE of ATTRIBUTE: 0SHIP_TO_REGION
Question: The report is working fine...... but I have a doubt whether the report (built on the ODS with no Key figures) will populate the master data for which there is no Key figures are maintained in ECC???
Please let me know your ideas and views.......

I think it will be better if u use Infoobject to store master data......here also u can turn attributes to Navigational attribute....u can activate that infoobject as dataprovider and do the Reporting as you do it now for the ods object. .........The master data approach will additionally give you the possibility to add navigational attributes to fulfil more reporting requirements..........In RSA1.............Infoprovider >> Right click >> Insert that Infoobject as Infoprovider............

Best Practice for Master Data Reporting

Dear SAP-Experts,
We face a challenge at the moment and we are still trying to find the right approach to it:
Business requirement is to analyze SAP Material-related Master Data with the BEx Analyzer (Master Data Reporting)
Questions they want to answer here are for example:
- How many active Materials/SKUs do we have?
- Which country/Sales Org has adopted certain Materials?
- How many Series do we have?
- How many SKUs below to a specific season
- How many SKUs are in a certain product lifecycle
- etc.
The challenge is, that the Master Data is stored in tables with different keys in the R/3.
The keys in these tables are on various levels (a selection below):
- Material
- Material / Sales Org / Distribution Channel
- Material / Grid Value
- Material / Grid Value / Sales Org / Distribution Channel
- Material / Grid Value / Sales Org / Distribution Channel / Season
- Material / Plant
- Material / Plant / Category
- Material / Sales Org / Category
etc.
So even though the information is available on different detail levels, the business requirement is to have one query/report that combines all the information. We are currently struggeling a bit on deciding, what would be the best approach for this requirement. Did anyone face such a requirement before - and what would be the best practice. We already tried to find any information online, but it seems Master data reporting is not very well documented. Thanks a lot for your valuable contribution to this discussion.

Pass a reference to the parent into the modal popup. Then you
can reference anything in the parent scope.
I haven't done this i 2.0 yet so I can't give you code. I'll
post if I do.
Oh, also, you can reference the parent using parentDocument.
So in the popup you could do:
parentDocument.myPublicVariable = "whatever";

Master Data Report

Hi,
I want to create a master data report which contains just charactristics no key figures.
For excample I want to show which client has which type of rate.
How can I do this?
Everytime I get an error message that I have to determine a key figure in the report.

But can I display characterisitc values in the query like a key figure value?

Withholding tax master data report changes in SAP FI

Hi All,
In our client according to new audit requirements improvements have to be done for the withholding tax report. According to the the requirements changes only functionality has to be added to the main selection screen of the withholding tax master data report.
Changes only functionality has to be added to the selection screen of the report, the report has to display changes made to the tax master data with in a range of period, this was achieved easily by making program changes. Only issue now is when we do it in development client its showing us properly but when we do it in production it is not working because when ever we do any configuration changes we do it in the development client and transport it to production client so the changes done to any configuration with respect to WHT are not recorded in the production environment as they are transported from development client.
So, we are unable to achieve this in production client, please help me out with this issue.

Master Data Reporting........data flow model

I will be working on Master Data reporting. I heard that this can be done by loading data from a Datasource into an InfoObject. I would like to see a data model for this scenario. Can anyone help me on this?

If you want to be more specific.
Open the InfoObject in change mode.
Go to Tab - Master Data/Texts
Here, if you go down, you will see a box for "InfoArea". Open this box and pick an InfoArea.
THis will do2 things.
1) It will allow you to create reports in the InfoObject.
2) It will allow you to Update the Master Data using any InfoSOurce.

Master data is backbone of any business software.It helps us to do transaction.
If you go to any ATM and do some transaction,you get a monthly statement.This monthly statement contains your address details and your transaction details.
So your address details and your account is like master data which is not changed so frequently but your transactions keep on happening on regular basis on your account and name.So your name and account are your master data which is set up once and donot change so frequently.
Similary if you create a Purchase order in SAP system.You need Material master and vendor master.The material master contains material details and vendor master contains vendor details and using that you create PO which is a transactional data which keep on happening for a particular vendor & material combination on regular basis.
So we set up master data once and make changes to these only when needed and record transaction against that.
So in first case your banking details which you enter while opening account is your master data and in next case Material Master and vendor master is master data which set up mostly once.
There are three types of data in SAP system
1. Organizational level data (ICICI Bank and Branch)
2. Master data (Your User data while opening account)
3. Transactional data (Your Regular transaction).
I hope ,you are clear on this by now.
There is a SAP software in Netweaver Stack now called MDM (Master data management) which will help to manage master data.

Master data text and ods

can i load the master data text and ods parallely?

Hi Abby,
If your ODS contains a characteristic value of an infoobject and you want to load master data (texts and attributes) of this IO, you'd better load master data first (not in parallel), then transaction data.
You can do it in a process chain.
Such a sequence will prevent the possible ODS activation failure.

Simple basic question on attribute data load for Master Data InfoObject....

I am a bit confused & wanted to have some clarification on the following:
1) For loading Attributes data to Master Data InfoObject, we load it through Data Source of Type Master Data Attribute.
But what i did, i created Data Source of type Transaction data and using the same Excel file, i was able to create transformation with Matser data Attribute and was able to load the data.
This shows i can use Data source of type either master data attribute OR Transaction Data doen't matter while loading into master data attribute. IS THIS TRUE?
2) I have 2 master data infoobjects (Test1 & Test2). I made Test2 as an attribute in Test1.
My question is while loading Master data for Test1, will it also load the data into Test2 if it doen't find respective data in Test2?
(i did all the transformation as per need.)

1. Did you make a transformation between attribute data source from source system other than flat file and DSO?...
I think PC File is flexible in this aspect..
2.While loading Test1 the infoobject Test2 will get loaded only if it is a navigational ttribute..(You can see this by refering the SID Table)
Please also note that it does not load Test2 attributes.

Master data reporting in SAP BW

Hi everybody,
we are using BW for reporting on master data. The concerned objects are all customer developments. We are experiencing problems concerning design questions and the print layout of the queries:
Our consultant advised us to use info objects for the implementation of master data in BW and to build the info objects just as the datasources in the source system, meaning: 1 table in the source system = 1 info object in BW. What are your experiences on that?
Second issue is, we have several long text informations. With the limitation of infoobjects to max. 60 digits, we are forced to split the contents into several infoobjects.
How do you handle long text informations in BW? (We need a printable report.)

Hi Kathrin,
It's OK to build one datasource on one table in the source system and load it into one infoobject. The main thing here that if you need to link these IOs that you load appropriate attributes into IOs to be linked.
Not knowing details it's hard to tell if this approach is the best.

Taking all those fields from HRP1000,HRP1001.......etc these are all the tables of Organizational master data which is one of the HR structures where HR people will design the organizational structure of the define and in that organizational structure they define org unit (org id which is represented by object type O),
Position id (position which is represented by object type S,
staffing is when they do the reporting then who is subordinate of whom
if you see tcode ppome (r/3) you can see all these fields this belongs organizational master data. i hope i cleared your doubt
So my question is if i extract this data by developing a custom defined data source based on view to which object (Org,Position,Staff) i need to lood this data

Material Master Data Reporting with SAP BW?

Hello,
I have a question regarding the use of a SAP BW System. Do you guys think SAP BW is a appropriate System for modelling and analysing Queries for the Material master data of the R/3 System.
Focus:
Material master data
Bill of Material
Material Classification System
Iu2019m not sure if Infocubes are the right way to report such kind of requirement. I mean Infocubes always requires key figures and dates but the material master data are mainly characteristics. Can someone give me some advice?

Hi,
I'd say yes. You can aalo use InfoObejct and DSO (like Tables) as well as InfoSets (Join ability).
Masteer Data and BoM shouldn't be a problem.
Material Classification System is always a bit tricky. Standard Class extractors are not able to extract multiple classifcations. There will be need of some Programming due to the poor standard solution.
I suppose some 10 - 15 days till it's finished an productive.

Master Data Reporting (DATA MODEL)

Hi,
I need to bring 15 to 20 more attributes of 0material/0matplant infoobject from R/3 to BW through 0matplant_attr/0material_attr extractors. Right now this extractors is brings 20 feilds and i dont know still how many i have to bring. So i need to take a decision wheather to enhance those feilds to the master data extractor or create a view on those tables and then generic data source out of it and load it to the infoobject.
Now the issue comes here, i need to do a reporting of those newly added attributes. What should be the best design, wheather to do a reporting on the infoobject or create a ODS on top of infoobject to do report. Daily we are loading these inforobjects as a full load and its around 2 million records.
Please help me out, Your input will be highly appriciated.

1. creating a view and use it for creating the generic datasource and do the loads. y cant you go for delta instead of loading full loads daily?
2. make the material and matplant as infoproviders(insert char as data target) and report on them. this is because ods will have to do activation and reporting on ods is not advisable.

having the objects as attributes vs having them in the ods. which is faster in terms of reporting. ?
-- how do we decide if certain objects needs to be part of master data vs certain infobjects needs to be part of ODS itself.

If from our logical model that we have derived as Infoobject is a Business Object that is required to many Infoproviders then the are defined as Master data and if they are required for the ODS on business reporting needs then they are placed in ODS.
But when it comes to reporting i think it is ODS it makes faster than reporting for an IO.
